Mja downgrade mf9 odin fail bicked - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

TRIED TO ODIN BACK TO MF9 FROM MJA. ODIN FAILED AND BRICKED MY PHONE. THE PHONE NOW SAYS, "FIMWARE UPGRADE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE. PLEASE SELECT RECOVERY MODE IN KIES & TRY AGAIN.
IF ODIN FAILS THEN WHAT OTHER OPTIONS DO I HAVE?
I WAS ON A PURE STOCK MJA. WHEN I TRY TO DOWNGRADE SAYS I HAVE A BINARY OF 1 EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING SAYS OFFICIAL.

Why, just why?
Have you not read that at this time you cannot go back to MF9 once you accept the MJA update ?

SOLVED...I USED ODIN 3.07 "NEWEST" AND DID THE CF_AUTO ROOT THROUGH ODIN...HERE... AFTER THE DOWNLOAD HAD TO DELETE THE .MD5 EXTENTION FOR ODIN TO WORK...BACK ON 4.3...SCAREY WHEN ODIN FAILS.
THERE IS A UPSIDE TO THIS FAIL...IM ROOTED NOW

Glad you got it back up. I knew there was a way to bring it back. Just couldn't remember off the top of my head.

Thanks man
I had the same issue. I looked for talk about upgrading to mja and back to mf9, but I couldnt find anything useful. I didnt want to root from the new update mja, so I tried going back to mf9 and had the same issue you had.
I was worried.
I tried to use odin 3.07 to go back to mf9, but it wouldnt work. I instead used odin to root the f#cker and to my amazement it worked!
Now I am rooted and on 4.3!
I though I had to choose between the two.
Thanks again.

Unroot S4? Sorry if repost but please help!

Hey guys new to these forums. So I've been looking around and I feel like no matter what I try nothings helping. I rooted my phone when it was 4.2 and when it went to 4.3 I updated without even thinking about it... screwed up everything! I tried to re-root and now my wireless doesn't work and everythings buggy. I tried to download stock 4.2 firmware and run with ODIN and it keeps saying FAIL every time. Is there a "set in stone" way to do this for the samsung galaxy S4 by sprint?
How did you update to 4.3? If you took the ota or Odined the full tar file, you cannot downgrade to 4.2.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
It fails because you are using the wrong download. Download either the MJA or the MK2 full tar file and install with odin. Once you upgraded to 4.3 you lost the ability to use older 4.2 tar files. You must continue with the 4.3 software tar files which are MJA or MK2. Good luck.

Mobile Odin wouldn't boot into Recovery

My phone S4 sprint
newest cyanogenmod 11 nightlies
So heres the problem
phone started off not making or receiving calls which was weird because i still go data 4g LTE... so i read somewhere that i have to go back to stock and update my PRL or something...im not sure whats its called but i would know what to do once I'm on the stock rom... but anyway thats not the main problem anymore. my main problem is when i tried to go back to stock with mobile odin my device did go to the last step that odin need to do it , which was to boot back up in stock recovery... so now my phone doesn't not boot at all.. I'm only able to get in in download mode i really need phone i tried taking it to to the sprint they are trying to say its water damaged which i know its not
Maybe its because i was on android 4.4. and i was try to go down to stock 4.2 or what it is
If you can get into download mode, go to a PC download the tar file and Odin it through your computer.

I have no clue, all i know is that i was running cyanogenmod 11
Boot your phone into download mode, look at the lines of text in the top left corner. If you see anything that mentions knox warranty then you were on MJA or MK2 and need to download either of those tar files, If you don't see anything that mentions knox warranty then you were on MF9 or older and you can download the MF9 tar to avoid the knox bootloader. If you do need the MK2 tar, here is the best download of the tar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601443

[Q] Trying to go from Sacs custom rom to Stock 4.4.2

I am currently on Sacs custom rom 4.3_v5.6 (latest build) trying to get back to stock 4.4.2 NAE. I have been flashing roms on a pretty consistent basis for about 2 years not but I am stumped this time. I open ODIN and run as an administrator as always, load my stock .tar file into the PDA slot and let it go through the checking process and then I hit start. It starts going for 2 seconds and then fails. I then have to do a battery pull to restart the phone and then my phone hangs up on the "Firmware update was interrupted, please connect to kies screen and that's as far as I can get. I have factory reset phone at least 10 times today. Like I said, I am stumped...any advice would be appreciated.

You need to get back to compete stock to take ota. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660607
Read that thread on how to get to mja stock, then run system/fitness update on the phone: in settings. And take the ota

Were you already on NAE from the OTA before you installed Sacs rom?? If you were, then you can't go back to NAE stock until we have a full tar file for NAE. You can try to install one of the Stock NAE roms in the development section, but until we have the full tar file for NAE you can't odin back to stock, If you weren't already on the NAE OTA, and still have the MK2 bootloader, then odin the full MK2 tar and apply the NAE OTA.
Here is a good place to download MK2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601443
Remember, if you already are on NAE, you cannot odin older tar files so you have to wait until the full NAE tar is available.

I was on the stock NAE update, so I guess I am stuck until then, not a big problem.
Sacs 4.4.2
Hi all,
Noobie here,
So I couldn't wait either- a junkie per say for a half a dozen Roms but find Sacs Rom to be most impressed with. As Sacs pointed out in the step by steps instructions- when quite successful, as others have pointed out with the camera issue which is a very small and all most not relevant at this time, with wifi I had no issues at all- did run across a small blurb about android.- something was crashing---- But I'm still enjoying it- don't plan to fall back- I am noticing the battery drains a little faster on use- did fix the toggle battery size through 3mint- awesome... Now I'm just waiting on to mods/themes as previous Sacs roms- I've tried loading the pervious versions but found it crashed the Samsung keyboard- so I reflashed 4.4.2------ Thanks for being ahead on this Sacs- great work...

[Q] So many issues... (Kies, Recovery, Firmware)

Hello.First post here.
I currently have been using CM11 for a few months now but miss some features on stock. (multiwindow, air view) so I installed Sacs ROM.
Everything was working great today except a known problem is wifi will not work due to radio opbstructions (i believe). So i attempted to change the baseband to MF9.
At first, Odin started then immidately it failed. The error read 'Fused 4 Binary 1'
So i assumed it was a connection error. I loaded back into download mode and tried again. Failed.
At this point i thought screw it, and took the battery out. tried to reboot and stuck at the soft brick "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
I installed Kies. Plugged in my phone. Drivers installed but Kies will not connect. Try to do 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialization'
However Kies will NOT accpet my S/N number. i tried everything. writing it all out or with a space every 3 numbers or with 'DEC' at the front. nothing worked.
I even called sprint to double check S/N (ESN/DEC)
so basically I'm soft bricked and Kies is screwing me over. Any ideas?
Have you tried to odin back to stock?

Yes but it takes all but about 30 seconds to root again
You could go straight to sacs after rooting.

If you flash a full stock tar you won't have to flash radio.
Do a search please for the tar.

i searched around and eventually found a working .md5 file. its apparently is stock. got my phone to start booting but it got stuck at the yellow sprint screen. im going to try to boot into safe mode. any ideas how to access my recovery file? i have one form CWM and one from Ti Backup
which tar did you flash through Odin? MF9, MK2 or NAE?
IF you were on MF9 and flashed the full MF9 tar you can try and flash again. Just power off phone completely, go to download mode, attach and run Odin. (same for MK2 or NAE) BUT if you tried flashing MJA/MK2 or NAE you cannot go back to MF9. Things you should have read about already.
If it hangs on boot after flashing, power off completely, boot to stock recovery and do a factory reset and then let it restart first reboot can take 5 to 10 earth minutes.
You can then root via CF-Autoroot or Saferoot, install goomanager to grab a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) OR Odin said recoveries (Philz, TWRP etc.)

I think i fixed it.
Problems resolved.
The issue was i had Sacs v4 which didnt support wifi and i read that it needed MF9 firmware.
i had a lapse in judgement and without thinking tried to go back from MJA. didnt catch it until now.
I eventually found the correct stock file. eventually got into the phone. rerooted and in the process of install the proper sacs ROM (v5.6)
this was a simple error that i shouldve caught thanks guys!
hopefully this ROM will work with wifi...
BTW, all my backups were wiped
Your backups weren't on your external sd? Ooo, that sucks. Glad you got it.

failing odin trying to go back to stock rom.

failing odin 1.85 and 3.07, flashing the stock 4.2 rom and it's failing, I don't see a stock 4.4.2 rom for sprint online so I'm using this one. It's failing odin, what needs to be done?
You CANNOT go back to an older version on android via ODIN. This has been covered countless times. Grab NAE tar and flash it via odin. There is a thread in development section with the download link that is on the first page. Since you say you cannot find it.means that you have not searched.

try here. there is a stock version in the list. also try disconnecting the phone at the end when Odin wants says done and goes to reboot and manually rebooting. sometimes it helps

You will need to go into recovery mode and do a data wipe to resolve.
I learned this one the hard way but the jump from 4.2 to 4.4 seems too wide to do by Odin in a single flash.
