There are several roms for kitkat on the nexus all promising everything works and good speed...some are based on the nexus 5 factory images...others are based on the aosp sources....my question is which is going to give the "most bang for the buck"?
Does using "ART" actually provide verifiable app speed increases?

Yes for the second question.
Dont know if you know that KITKAT is not out official for N4. So now we all running the hybrid version of KITKAT.
The binaries used are from 4.3. So just wait for the official N4 KITKAT ROM or else till then try the N5 KITKAT PORT v3 OR AOSPA KITKAT. Both are good, but PORT is better.
Go with the Port
Though the ASOP build make it out first, the N5 Port is super stable and just about everything is working. It's now my daily driver.

+ one on the Nexus 5 port, the only thing that doesn't work for me is compass although navigation works.
there are some complaints in the thread that some things don't work, but those are from people who cant follow instructions.
One question on the Nexus 5 port, do you know which browser can watch Flash video/content?
I have installed the latest flash player 11.1 apk. Suppose the Firefox can show the flash, but it fail. Have a search on web, there is no much information about it...
Also the new business search in dialer and new caller id feature only works in port. For now...

I got my Nexus 4 yesterday and I've been using an S3 for a month or so running CM 10.1
Should I flash CM 10.1 on my Nexus 4, or will there be a new version that will soon be released pertaining to 4.2.2?
How stable is CM on the Nexus 4? I had a few issues with it on the S3. Will it be as reliable as stock?

The CM ROM for the N4 is stable, I've been using it for a while and haven't had any problems.
I think the latest nightly has the 4.2.2 updates in it already.
Which ROM to use is kind of personal though and depends on what you want, take a look at the ROMs in the threads and you will see quite a few choices, and then there are even a lot of different kernels too so there are plenty of choices.
Rasbean Jelly or Xenon HD. Both are stable as can be.

I personally love SlimBean. Right now I'm using my Slim-Star ROM (PM me for details and download link) which is based off of SlimBean.

In these kind of threads a lot of ROMs always are mentioned. I think you can better take a look around the forum and decide for yourself.

I found the best ROM for me by installing the popular ones for a few days each then picking the one I liked the most.
I'm using PA 3+ (ParanoidAndroid), It's CM 10 based, this rom has Hybrid UI (Table UI, Stock UI, etc) and have a lot of colors improvements and the best feature is the PIE control that is really awesome.
You can check PA 3+ here and you can check the development forum for all the other roms available.
Good Luck! =)
I'll probably just go with CM since its what I'm used to. Don't have time right now to try a bunch of different things.
My phone currently isn't rooted. Can someone link a good guide on how to root and install CM?

I don't like CM10. I find stock smooth, and I think when RasbeanJelly is updated to 4.2.2 base, you should use that.

Please let start good. That is not even Kitkat. Is SlimBean 4.3.1 with some 4.4 apps that works on 4.3. As you can see there it is Android 4.3.1 . Second part that thread even if it get's ROM must be on Android Developement. I will report to it moved to correct place Btw if you wanna have a real 4.4 uses the OMNI 4.4 posted by XploDwilD , we did a hard work for it and is running really so good, THANKS!

:crying: I install the omni room yesterday...
kitkat seems to have much more improvement and a new vision of google...
but the room is have many bugs (the worst think is the nonworking speaker sound "persistent silence".
hope that they can solve this ASAP.
ok I must update my last replay...
Now there is Omni 4.4 nightlight releases as in below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516933
and also CM11 beta release :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526090
both are suitable for use and many bugs has been solved...
you can try them ... "in your own risk"
or you can wait for official stable cm11, PA, OMNI... and flash them "on your own risk also:laugh:"
or if your are not interesting-in launching KITKAT asap ... wait for Samsung update... in which there is no dedicated near update day if there will be update..
with best
Roflol Samsung update on note 1? Ahahahah not before next life.
I tried the omni ROM on n7000 and OMG awesome. I love it. My phone used to be laggy but now I can open several applications without problem. The battery life is very much acceptable. Am still to nail any bug. Am still wondering whether I should update to the latest version.
Cannot find root though but won't bother as I already like it as is.
I do recommend it strongly.

I tried all CM 10.* than again stock 4.1.2 and now I use OmniROM 4.4
In CM 10.* and Omni I found one annoying bug with Video registrator programs. All ones that I tried don't record video. At start recording programs crashed. Often video camera don't work at all until reboot system.
For example DailyRoads Voyager...
Omni ROM
Many thanks to the team developing Omni ROM. For a nightly release, they seem to get better and better. Having tried most AOSP ROM's, my impressions are that it's really well sorted and though there are a few minor issues I'm comfortably using it as a daily driver. I don't mind that I have to reboot sometimes. It's far more stable and usable than most TW ROM's that have had 97 lock screens added and every button or theme known to man. These guys are real developers and are actually cutting code and really know what they are doing. Give it a try if you would like to see 4.4 on a Note.
One real caution though. Please, please, please read the instructions in the opening post. If you follow them, it will work. Please don't think you know more and try to do it yourself or your special way using whatever kernel you think best, as it won't end well.
thanks:laugh:

Have any one seen/heard that there is a pa build for hlte? I really miss the tablet ui would be perfect for this device.
if any one have seen the pa build please share a link in the comments below or tell me how to find it. with love from a huge pa fan.

Hey bro! I have the n900t but use hlte roms as well. I have not found a PA build. I think hlte was originally going to be a legacy device for pa, back in like march or April, but hlte was removed from that legacy list for an unknown reason.
You can, however, use carbon rom which is an aosp ROM with a lot of features. It has many of the pa features, like hover, peek, pie etc. I don't think I've seen a tablet ui setting for it, but I think you should be able to use xposed for that, do you know what that is?

hum, wierd that they removed hlte :s, Yes, I do know what exposed is, and I saw there was some kind of module that were supposed to force tablet ui but since google remover tablet ui from the framework I'm not able to get it, I'm only getting phablet ui which isn't even close to tablet ui hopefully some devs manage to merge the tablet part from earlier versions of android so that all users with at least larger screens could use it xD
Paranoid Android arrived!
Thanks to @encho we now can run Paranoid Android on our Note 3.
It is an alpha version, lacking most if not all PA features. But it is fast and it is Paranoid.

What is the consensus on the CM12 nightly builds?
Is anybody using them?
I just got my 9506 and all I really want out of a rom is the stock look, like Nexus or GPE, which CM provides.

If you are hard gamer, I recommend you to use official CM12. I've tested both and seems like theres serious graphical issues in arters cm12. But both are good for daily use, battery life is little bit worse in arter cm12. Theres not much differencies.
The consensus is that Temasek rom built by @arter97 is the BEST rom for our device, even better than touchwiz rom, and of course better than official cm builds.

I do not agree the official cm12 by the time will be better because of it's easier to handle, flash and has OTA update.
Can someone please explain what the main differences/goals are between the three major ROMS are? (official cm12, solk2, and arter97/temasek) Looking around the forum, I can't seem to find anything closer than "X is better than Y" and "The difference is in tuning" and other vague things like that

Yeah and they have better support to rom. I mean they update it every day etc..
Arters rom is based on temasek moded version of CM12 - it does include a bit more than the barebone CM12. It is rock solid and by far good enough to be a daily driver. I found it to be great with games (as a reply to another post here). Played Star Wars Kotor on it for hours, it ran perfectly and did not get hot.
The "official" CM12 I have not tried, but it seems to be lagging a lot behind arter. They had, or still have?, problems with wifi/mobile nettwork and other stuff. Does not seem to be a daily driver yet.
I just don't get why you guyz think that easy flashing and faster releases is a positive feature in terms of rom stability.
I'm quite happy with updates arter releases, they are stable and battery friendly, besides it have all goodies from temasek rom.
Don't wanna be a flashaholic!
I don't want to be a flashaholic either. Maybe when official gets a snapshot version, or milestone, but that may never happen looking at the history.
I was using CM11 on the previous 9505 but everything changed with Lollipop.

I was looking very skeptic when it was available, but I was amazed how stable and fast it was.
Started with v1, I`m using arters build and had ZERO accidental restart, (FC, camera can`t connect and etc... ) or any bug that affects daily usage. I came from M12 i9300 CM11.
Does casting work? Moving apps to SD?
Casting works fine with Chromecast. Accessible from quick pulldown panel.
Move 2 sd is broken, it`s CM bug.

Gotcha, the rom I was using with the 9505 did not have cast working and SD moving was also broken.
For me official cm12 is the best and always up to date. I tried mokeedev, arter, solk and back to official
I think I will try official cm12 when there is a at least a snapshot build.
What's broken in it at the moment, anything? What camera do you use?
I update daily with last nightly. For my usages nothing's broken. Very stable. I use Google camera.
Do you have a chrome cast? Can you connect to it?

Hi guys,
I'm currently torn between PureNexus and Nougat 7.1. Currently I'm stock, unrooted with bootloader locked. Basically as good as factory piece.
I had made my mind up to flash PureNexus, then I read about Google releasing DP of 7.1 to N6P.
I'm not able to decide on either of these now.
Would there be any noticeable changes from 7.0 to 7.1 or would you go on and flash PureNexus!!!???

I'll tell you the truth,, there is nothing special about PureNexus nougat rom...i Flashed PN, used it for 1 day and went back to stock nougat + franco's kernel.
I found the google apps works better on stock than the AOSP apps on PureNexus.
The "life" of one battery cycle isn't too much different between those two...
About dp 7.1 , I ain't sure that there is some one who can answer your question about it, there is no any specific info about that... all you can do is flash the DP when it'll roll out and than decide - keep it or not.

He means the Google apps run better on stock. In other words the "Gapps" and I noticed it too. Apps don't install as fast from the play store. Don't get me wrong pn is a great rom. I'll probably use it instead of stock some day. But rn. There is too many new updates coming to the Nexus device. One of the main reasons to have a nexus is to have all the latest versions and features earlier. That's wasted with pn. Maybe after 7.1 is on stable and Pn is on a stable version of 7.1 I'll switch. But right now . I'm on 7.1

The AOSP based phone app for example is old compared to google markets one, keeping both make no sense , freeze the AOSP phone app will broke the whole calling "system".
The overall experience on stock apps vs AOSP version is much better, nothing missing, fully functional, if u don't like something you can just disable it with no issues (of freeze with TB)
I never liked the AOSP based Roms, there is always something old and undone... You can bring the same results of battery life of stock , just change kernel, freeze some apps and disable some services and you're ready to go.
The best way to choose is to try them both, than decide what's better for you.
