[Q] how to update to mj6 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i'm on branded orange mi7 french and would like to unbranded and install last mj6 from england.
So is it possible to unbranded and update without knox 01?
To after root with vroot.
Thanks

Nope sorry. Mj6 will trip the counter. You can still try installing from sammobile and dont root it.

That's right, but try to root it.... You now have the new bootloaders that trip when you root, and if something goes wrong forget using Kies 3 to fix as the newest firmware Malaysia has to date is MJ1, the old bootloader.... Welcome to bootloopssville, population - You....

I don't know about the branded version, but I succeeded in flashing MJ6-BTU on my french XEF phone. Root is working - Knox is 0x0.
Universal RDLV is able to create the system.img.ext4 and cache.img.ext4 files, but you have to include some other files from the Samsung tar.md5 file or camera and WLAN will be broken. DO NOT include the *.mbn files - DO NOT include the unmodified system.img.ext4 - this would result in Knox 0x1.

Hello do you flash a rdlv version or a non modified one?

The safest way to go up (providing you currently have nothing higher than MJ1), is to create a URDLV Firmware, to keep the old boot loader.
Then flash the modem and NON-HLOS file from the original Samsung tar file.

You flash a RDLV version, but you have to add some additional files from the Samsung firmware. At least you have to add NON-HLOS and modem, but in my case this wasn't enough, so I built a new .tar.md5 file with almost everything. The only files I didn't include were the *.mbn files. System+Cache from the RDLV tar.md5, the rest from the Samsung tar.md5 file.

Can i flash mj1 With odin without knox01 and after flash rdlv mj6 or mj7
Thanks

You will understand how to create your UK MJ7 firmware unbranded and rooted. Don't flash a newer firmware than MJ1 to keep the old bootloader and don't use kingoapp or vroot .... They use an exploit which won't exist anymore when samsung will decide it ! You will be happy to have the old bootloader at this moment ...

Thank you, i understand that it's important tout keep the old bootloader. So my iinterrogation is about i update my mi7 directly to rdlv mj7 or i update first to mj1 and after to mj7.
Bootloader on mi7 and mj1 is the same?

I bought what I thought was a UK Note 3 (via Amazon UK) but it turns out to be a Malaysian XME one. I've therefore been looking at moving over to the BTU firmware. Was it simply a case of downloading (I've done this from Sammobile) and installing via Odin? Any issues encountered?

Hello,
i'm not sure what you want exactly. If i understand your phone is XME and you want BTU ? So if you flash a rom from sammobile with multi-csc your phone rest on XME. You need to flash BTU exclusive one ( i think, ask for confirmation ).
But before flash you need to know if you want root after or customise, because of knox warrantly and new bootloader you can't do this is you don't do the right thing.
You can read this also :

I think it can be done using this method

(Q) Return to full stock

Hi guys,
I was initially on URDLV MI7 & I updated to MJ7 via Mobile odin pro v3.85.
Currently, I am on MJ7 with MI7 bootloader. Knox still 0x0-Good.
So my Q's now is how do I unroot and return fully to stock without triggering Knox.
Thx.
There are some conflicting posts regarding this around the forum, me personally I would just unroot via the SU app, or you could just reflash stock firmware via ODIN - ( flashing stock back apparently does NOT trigger KNOX) - However I have tried neither of these as I am already 0x1, so not sure which actually works.
Yep, I'd flash Terlstra rom using PC ODIN. Should unroot and you should be able too as you are still on MI7 bootloaders...

OK so you have MI7 bootloader and running MJ7 build?
IN order to keep MI7 you can't flash the Stock ROM MJ7 fw, as it will upgrade the bootloader. (unless you use ODIN Mobile)
If you want to flash back totally stock, unroot via SuperSU /Flash the stock MJ7 fw via ODIN (which will also upgrade the bootloader) and it shouldn't trip KNOX. There's a few threads around with conflicting reports on which does and does not trip KNOX, so have a read then take the gamble if you choose too.
I updated via KIES to MJ7 from rooted MJ6 and it was all fine But I had tripped KNOX previously when messing around.
Let us know how you get on and which method you choose.
K. Thx.

Root N9005 [KNOX 0x0 Root]

Hello,
I want to root my device and I want to keep KNOX 0x0.
I know that there is Universal Root de la Vega v0.2 thread that will keep knox 0x0 , The problem is that i don't know which firmware to choose.
There is 3 diffrent country/carrier(Singapore (SingTel). Singapore (StarHub), Singapore), with the same AP/CSC/MODEM.
AP: N9005XXUDML2
CSC: N9005OLBDMK2
MODEM: N9005XXUDMJ7
How i can know which firmware to download and use it on Universal Root de la Vega v0.2?

I have MJ1 rooted with the initial Vega method.
Could I use the new URDLV version 4 to get the latest version of the phones software and keep root?
Is it easy? Do I have to download a stock rom to modify?

Yes you can. 2 ways.
1) Download the whole rom and URDLV it and flash with odin
2) Download the whole rom and flash with mobile odin pro with everroot turned on.
Either way you need to download the full rom first.

Did you try to flash the Telstra rom or the XSA rom?
I found flashing Telstra's rom doesn't seem to work...
Also, what version of firmware were you trying to flash?
You can't flash an MI7 rom on an MJ7 bootloader. Just goes into a bootloop... If by some miracle you get to android then usually wifi and phone WONT work. You need MJ7 (or higher) rom on MJ7 bootloader...
Make sure reactivation lock is OFF... You can end up with a brick otherwise..
thanks

- 1st, you cannot flash MJ7 over MJ9. Choose a higher firmware (e.g MK1, MK2, ML1, ML2...) to flash over MJ7.
- 2nd, donot flash carrier's firmware (vodafone). Choose unbrand firmware.

Not exactly PDA nor CSC nor MODEM... It is the Bootloader version, as you cannot overwrite a bootloader by the older one.
However the firmware usually comes with the "same version" for both the PDA and the bootloader. So in general you can also said it is the PDA version.
MK1. So I need to flash like MK2 and above

[Q] Rooting on Vodafone UK

Hi,
Wondered if someone could please help, as I wish to root without tripping knox, as it's important I have secured work emails.
Just upgraded from Xperia Z, and got experience of rooting that in various ways, along with rooting other Android phones. However, been a while since I had a Samsung phone, but not had one with knox before.
Phone has come with the following firmware:
PDA: N9005XXUBMI7
Phone: N9005XXUBMI6
CSC: N9005VFGBMI1
I've done loads of reading on the subject, and appears that I can use Root de la Vega universal 0.5 without tripping knox with the above firmware.
Could someone please confirm what I believe that it's possible to root the above firmware without tripping root?
Assuming that it is possible, Vodafone have also issued the following firmware update, which I've downloaded to pc from SamMobile, but not yet installed:
N9005XXUDMJ6_N9005VFGDMJ1_VOD
Is there a way I can then flash this update, say with Odin, without tripping root?
Really appreciate any assistance thanks

It sounds like you want to stay with official Vodafone rom versions.
I didn't see any need to, so I flashed MJ7 BTU (UK) using MOP as the next step, which worked perfectly.
I flashed mk2 btu wheb that came out in the same way.
Fir kitkat, like most others, i flashed the Polish XEO NA6 official rom. Like I said kitkat flash is a little more tricky due to the extra bootloader flashing step. Personally, kitkat release isn't quite ready for prime time so samsung haven't rolled it out in more regions. There a few little quirks about it, e.g. genuine s view cover not working for all. I'd suggest waiting for the official BTU release before flashing by which time they may have ironed out the little bugs.
Good luck!

Actually I was unlocked within a few mins of making the call - unlock code got texted to me. And it was free - most likely because I was within my first 7 days of a new contract.
If it's not a new contract phone, then some others have reported chainfire's region lock away to work:

Unable to flash stock BTU after XEO 4.4.2

I was one of the impatient ones and flashed the stock Polish 4.4.2 onto my N9005 and rooted with CWM. Everything has been fine but now I wish to flash my regions stock rom BTU unbranded. However every time I do so via Odin 3.09 I am presented with the Polish welcome screen and when you look in the settings it's still the XEO firmware. Even the System Status and Current Binary shows up as Custom still?
