I say this with the utmost sincerity, can you restate your issue in a clearer fashion? Are you describing a WiFi issue?

opera mobile hanging...

just installed opera mobile 8.6 expecting to get alot better performance and functionality than from PIE plus and the problem is that im not getting it
almost all the sites are hanging on looking up host... for a substantially long period of time and thats if it finds it, and when it does then sometimes it zooms thru setting up secure connection and loads the site really fast if its not to image intensive.
this delay is longer than a few seconds, im not that impatient, its more so like a minute or 2 at times, google.com shouldnt take that long to load
another issue is that after closing it, and clicking the IE softkey i have pointed to opera mobile (my newly default browser) or selecting it from my start menu, it wont load up, mainly because the opera.exe process isnt terminated correctly, so i open up my task manager and have to end task it everytime.
help please
try changing your dns servers to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 or there are many other open dns servers. I as having similar issues with cingular dns lookups taking forever. this really helped me. I think opera has it's own page to set up dns servers, but I don't use it so i'm not sure.
wes
my dns settings are as follows...
http://www.opendns.com/start/windows_mobile5.php
severly increased my dslreport.com/mspeed tests..from around 300 to 850+ kbps
need help =/
I have found that Opera mobile SUCKS compared to IE... simply sucks... and when I found out that I can do a little function to view myspace... the choose was over.. PIE rocks...
the opera.exe process not being terminated correctly issue, somewhat solved itself within a few soft resets.
the looking up host issue taking forever isnt completely gone but i have noticed that i.e. www.google.com loads alot faster than google.com (if it loads)
ill deal with it, do look the browser tho, tabs are alot nicer than in PIE plus which limits ur viewing size of the site
another dead thread i guess, less some1 has any tips =)

Data Plans, how many mb you use per day?

Hello,
I was wondering how many mb's you guys run through daily and how often do you use the internet/messenger
for example would 10mb a day suffice? how many instant messages or web pages could i view for that?
Thanks, just looking to compare to see what would be good for me, my 8525 arrives friday
could be anywhere from 21 to 51 mb in a day depending on what i find while browsing for things to install on my Vario II. if it's alot of graphics and downloads like themes and such from Wisebar's site then expect a 50mb day. if it's only browsing here and 4winmobile then closer to 20mb assuming any downloads i do aren't roms for the vaior or any of my other phones
thanks for the reply
i wont be doing much downloading from it except for the occasional mp3, other than that just browsing the net and using aim/msn
do you know how much data an aim/msn message consumes?

It depends on your needs.
I only use it for updating the weather (~ 5kb a time), some instant messaging and some tv text (app I wrote since my tv has no text :') )
I've got a 50Mb limit a month and I use SPB GPRS monitor to monitor my usage.
Last month I've been using it not a lot, because I wanted to be sure that I would not get some suprises on my monthly bill. 10 Mb a month is not that much. But consider using your WIFI too when you're close to a WIFI hotspot.
IM doesn't consume that much, it's more the MP3's. If you've 10 MB a month, than you can download maybe 2 MP3's....
Though I must say that downloading MP3's is not something you should do with your PDA. But that's just my personal opinion.
^Its 10mb a day not a month stated in my first post, although there is a 50mb a day package too i was considering
Im not contemplating downloading a lot of mp3's, but im sure there will be times on the go when i cant get to a wi-fi spot and need to download one.
50 mb a day, would that cover a fair amount of msn/aim and web browsing in one day?
i have no clue about these bandwidth monitors so im not sure how much websites take up(on average)
i can use upto 150mb a day but i also use spb GPRS monitor to make sure i don't go to mad!

WmTorrent on Diamond: Upload problem

I have installen the wmTorrent 2.1.6 on my diamond.
so far i can download torrents, but i can not limit the upload.
It does not matter, what i adjust in the settings, the upload is allways unlimited. This is a nogo for my slow internet connection.
does anybody have the same problems or does anybody know, how to limit the upload?
Does anybody have a comment?
changing speed
hey i installed winmobile yesterday
well the settings are a bit stupid if you tell me...
but it works.
i changed the speed to 384 kB/s
the you can change the download speed.
i set mine at MAX KB/s
changed the upload speed to 100 kB/s
it works.
setting the speed above 384 kB/s is a no go,
because the minimum upload settings are too high.
I think the monimum upload speed for TORRENT is 10KB/s. Above there should be no limitation for download.
Please try to set 20KB/s upload maximum and something as DL max. ant tell
me if the upload limit will be obtained.
Thanks in Advance
Yesterday i installed the 1.2.x version of WmTorrent.
Here i can adjust the upload limit correctly and this will be
followed.
Can the version 2 be incompatible with HTC Diamond?
the default upload minimum for most clients is usually 5-10 (7 on uTorrent etc) so play around and see if you can find it

That's what you get for relying on Rapidshare and friends.
Register a ppcgeek account or grab it off my site in the Web Browsers section.

Go on my site, blownfuze.org, go to the web browser section, click the link to the file, type in xda and xda for the user and the pass and it's done. Also posted the non-Conflipper version floating around.

Worked like a charm, thanx a lot! I owe you bigtime
Damn opera is faster now!
a few things im missing from the built in one tho,
1 it doesnt move to landscape when i flip my hd, any easy way to get this to work?
2 it doesnt support the hd's back button
So whats so great about this? How do I make it my default browser as opposed to the Opera already on my Pro?
Gotta wait till I leave this basement to test it with a good signal

it'll overwrite ur current opera
much much faster compared to previous version, imo, atleast on my diamond
Thanks. How do I keep this thing from starting up on boot? Its really annoying and I don't see it in the Windows startup folder.
using it now and there is a number of announces going on. I don't know it's the skin but:
1) if the page (in full screen) is loading and I scroll/pan it will jump out of full screen mode. however, if the page finished loading and I scroll/pan it stays in full screen mode.
2)screen/skin response is a bit laggy at times. I really feels it is skin related because if I click a link in my RSS reader to open in opera it would show that the page is loading but doesn't show that a new tab is open until after (roughly) 10 seconds (where as in earlier builds it is shown immediately). I think this is somehow related to the jumping out of full screen problem.
EDIT
3) when double tap to zoom in, the wait it to focus is a bit longer than usual. restarted and this problem went away.
4) I really prefer the zoom slider at the bottom of the page a) because it's much smoother and responsive, b) because I'm left handed so it's better access.
good things:
1) I like that as you type the text area follows along, even though I have a good size screen I know smaller screen users would appreciate this.
2)it seems faster but some of the discrepancies I mentioned above sort of made this improvement moot.
3) it uses sip that is set at default (tested with TouchPal)
4) got a 59/100 in acid3 test (I think the test is somewhat flawed because it seems network dependent, I ran the test 3 times, I got 59, 57, 60. so I took the middle value of the 3. if I should use the average of these 3 it would be 58.6666∞, technically 59)
5) scroll velocity is back. but it doesn't "refresh" the page as you scroll/pan, so you'll be seeing a lot of gray area even if your height and width buffers are set up to 1028 (although this size helps a lot while reducing velocity to 150).
all in all, I will be using it.
** for those who can't enter text/comment on xda after hitting the "post reply" button while using opera, all you have to do is set user agent spoof to 3 in the config. for the last 5 builds I had to do this to be able to post comments here. not everyone has this problem.
** can anyone post the "image.css" file that should be found in the folder "opera9\styles\"
Guys, if anyone of you used Opera 2520, how does this compare to it? Just wanted some insights that's all!
All the best!
What does "Full Flash support" mean? Youtube (and some other sites) only like in previous versions, or is it really FULL flash support now?
I really doubt it's full flash. It won't do CNN, Yahoo, ESPN, etc. videos. It does some of them at least on my 2520 version.
Yeah the flash addon just makes it really slow. Gonna disable it.
I cannot tell if it's flash that's making it slow, i know those darn stupid scripts make it slow! disabling it is real fast but only do it to websites that don't use those stupid scripts!

disable "delay script execution" in config maybe that will help.

Slow writes during torrents

When I try to download a torrent, it barely goes up to 1MB/s and then it dies to 0 while it writes the data. Slowly. During this time, mmcqd/0 is taking up all the CPU and the tablet is basically unusable.
I have tried multiple clients with the same results. The thing is I remember downloading at 6MB/s flawlessly, they only thing that changed was a ROM update maybe, but I don't think that's the issue. Maybe a rogue app or something.
Also, my network/connection is definitely not the issue.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong?
Running PA 3.15 and franco r8.

My guess is your torrent client (which you didn't specify) is threaded, and each thread is writing to the sdcard separately.
This could be a problem with the torrent client software, the OS, or the sdcard controller, but it any case something's blocking.
My advice is to use a desktop for torrenting, as you will have none of these issues there, and not be using your battery so much.

I did specify that I tried multiple clients (uTorrent mobile, aTorrent, tTorrent).
I torrent plenty on the desktop, but sometimes I want to torrent on the tablet and I should be able to. "Just stop using your device like that" does not help me solve my problem in any way.
