[Q] N7 Tablet on the FRITZ!!! - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm kind of at a lose with my tablet right now. I at one point did have it rooted and running clockwork for my recovery, everything was working perfectly. But as of right now I don't believe my device is rooted anymore. I did download the root checker app and it says that I am no longer rooted, which is fine but when I boot up my device I still have the unlocked padlock logo under the Google logo so I am wondering if I just have to do the OEM Lock? Or if possible, could I just unroot and reflash stock again then do the lock just to be safe or will that mess it up? not sure need some help! I am also getting the ADB device not found error with the toolkit. IDK how to fix it ive tried everything.
My guess is that my device is unrooted but still unlocked too so to get it back to normal all I have to do is the OEM Lock but I can't seem to get the ToolKit to read my device. I keep getting ADB device not found.
What I want to do is just completely restore it to as it was out of the box running stock android and unrooted. I pretty much just want to completely start over. I do have the Nexus Toolkit so could I just do the unroot and restore feature? I just don't want to brick my device. Looking for a little help on how I can get my device back to stock and completely unrooted.
I am running android 4.3 (The stock rom)

The padlock means that the bootloader is unlocked. It has nothing to do with root. I don't think anything changes if you re-lock it either.
If you're running stock and if you're not rooted anymore (how did this happen anyway?) just use the factory reset on your tablet, it's the same thing.
Use the superuser app (unless that one is gone? in this case just reinstall it from the play store) to unroot the device, and factory reset it then.
Are you using Windows 8? There are issues with fastboot/flashmode on W8, there is no fix, you have to use W7 or something else

[CLOSED] Need to remove encryption, but factory reset borked - help!

I've got a bit of a problem with my Nexus 10, I want to do a factory reset to remove encryption, but the factory reset fails every time. I've tried the stock one via the menus, and the clockwork one via recovery, but neither works. I thought I'd have a go at re-rooting it to see if I could force the issue, but the recovery isn't able to mount the SD, so I can't get to the file to flash. The unit is spoofing a Galaxy Nexus for SkyGo purposes, which seems to be causing the adb drivers to not work on my PC, as it's obviously not seeing it as a Nexus 10 when I connect. I can't remove the spoofing, as it needs to be rooted, which brings me full circle.
It's a right pickle!
Any ideas what I might be able to do to get the unit rooted again?

Custom recoveries don't deal with encryption, if I'm remembering things correctly. If your stock recovery's not working either, then that's a serious cause for concern (and is likely why factory reset isn't working for you). To be honest, you may be kind of hosed on this install around. I'd recommend that you boot up, back up your data using Titanium Backup, offload it (connect it to a PC/cloud service while device is on), then plonk into fastboot and just reinstall (or RUU).

Therein lies the problem though, for whatever reason my PC won't recognise the nexus 10, despite the drivers being installed from the ADK etc.
Because of that, I can't use fastboot or anything PC based. I suspect it's because the device is spoofed as a Galaxy Nexus.
The device is currently unrooted too, so that also limits my options.
My data isn't really a problem, I'm happy to wipe everything, it's all backed up on my NAS anyway.
Isn't there any sort of physical reset button anywhere that will force a factory reset?
Managed to get the drivers working on my gf's laptop, not sure why my PC wasn't playing ball, but this is all fixed now.
Ta!

[Q] N7 running 4.3 keeps trying to update to 4.3

My N7 16GB WiFi, rooted but stock, updated successfully to 4.3 some time ago. Basically, I used Voodoo OTA to save the root, let the OTA do its work, then restored root using Voodoo OTA. It's worked flawlessly since then.
Suddenly, after weeks with no issue, it started insisting it had to install 4.3 from a downloaded file. It nags constantly, which makes it hard to use the tablet. I've got CWM as the recovery so whatever file it's trying to install won't work from there. The only way I can find to go back to stock recovery involves wiping the tablet. I don't want to do that, unless there's no other alternative.
I looked for the update.zip file in the location that the tablet insists its stored at (root of SD card), but there's no file there by that name that I can find. It only shows up if I allow the nag screen to try and install it. Of course, CWM says that it can't verify the file and aborts the install. Which puts me right back at the ever-present nag screen.
Just to be clear, I am already running 4.3. This whole situation came up months after I'd upgraded. Is there anything I can do to stop the upgrade notices, short of running a factory reset and having to set up the tablet again from scratch?
May have found an answer. Used Wug's toolkit to force-restore the standard recovery. Had to do some old ADB driver removal for a bunch of other Android devices first. Appears to have deleted the unnecessary update file as part of the process. Will keep an eye on it going forwards, but think it's good.
Nope -- didn't work. Had to do a full factory reset/restore to out-of-the-box condition to get it to stop constantly trying to re-upgrade to 4.3. Annoying.

Nexus says it's rooted, but it isn't

When I hold down-volume and power button it says that the phone is unlocked, but apps that require root access don't work for me, and also root detecting apps don't detect it.
The problem is that my phone finds a new update (4.4.2, I'm 4.4 now) but when I click to update - it gives me an error and doesn't work.
It started when after I did a custom installation of 4.4...
Is there any way to fix it? I'm so tired of it, as far as I'm concerned your solution can even delete everything and bring my phone back to vanilla, I don't care - I just want to be able to update it by downloading internal updates.

Just because your bootloader is unlocked doesn't mean your rooted. You would have had to flash supersu or superuser in a custom recovery. If you've changed any system files the ota will not work. Sounds like you should do some more reading before you do much else.

problems un-rooting

I rooted my nex4 so i could put some apps on but left the rom stock but now it is not updating properly. I read that my phone needs to be unrooted to update properly or to do a factory reset (I am thinking about selling it, but would like to be able to say its updated and clean).
Is there a program that I can use to *un*root my nexus 4?
Thanks in advance
Flash factory image.

Nexus Bootloop (tried flashing and wiping)

Hi,
I have a rooted nexus 6p, all was well until it decided to reboot and boot-loop when I opened my music app. I get as far as the white Google logo then the phone restarts and I'm back to the normal warning then Google logo then reboot.
I have managed to get into the recovery screen (with the android laying down) but when i choose recovery mode the phone just starts boot-looping again.
I am wondering if I have somehow managed to hard brick it?
I have tried to flash the latest OS onto my phone but it said no signature.
I did managed to wipe the device also.
Thanks for any help.
Are you on Nougat or still on MM? Since you're rooted, it means you didn't receive an OTA. Did you flash it yourself, originally?

When my phone started playing up I was still on MM 6.0.1, I tried to flash N after the boot-looping started.
Thanks
