GPS Woes - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having issues with GPS working. IT is not even seeing any sats. I have my old GNEX and that is working great, no issues. I used GPS Status to reset/download the GPS data and no luck. I tried the latest CM build and an old CM build...no luck. I tried a different 4.3.1 ROM all together, no luck. I would try a 4.2.2 but GOO has been down all damn day
Anyway, any one else having issues with GPS? Hope GOO is back up soon because if this is a phone defect, then I need to flash back to stock. Wish I would of tested GPS out of the box, but I didnt even think to do so.
thanks

I am on the latest CM nightly build. Cannot go back to stock. All the links do DL stock roms are down because of GOO

THis is what I did to get GPS working....
1) Flashed CleanROM 4.2.2 and established a lock
2) Factory rest in recovery and applied CM 10.2 M1
GPS now works fine. Before I was restoring a CM backup but I had to flash the original CM ROM in order to get GPS working.

I am on stock rom, and have same issue. I began to think that this is a hardware problem. What type your g2? Mine is d802b.
There is another method to download stock rom, have you tried it?

Stock and 4.2.2 ROMS are fine. It is a known issue going from stock to CM. Some G2 phones do have hardware problems tho.

So... about this GPS problem...

I have been diligently searching for a thread to pop up along the lines of "GPS FIX" But I can't find any. I just wanna know if there is a definitive fix in the nightlies or not?
Not really. Some people are replacing their gps framework with one from an early nightly with generally working GPS. Other than that it seems different radios etc. Are having varying results.

Bad news here, I am on cm7 nightly 17, still without GPS( It worked only once).
The once worked method, which is replacing gps.vision.so from nightly #4 no longer works.

Yea this is how its been for several nightlies. GPS works on first reboot, but it doesn't work if you turn it off then back on again. I'm on #17 too.

This is the issue I had. I didnt mind replacing the gps.vision.so from Nightly #4 into the new Nightly's but now thats not even working on Nightly #17. It seems the GPS issue is getting progressively worse.
I'm on RC2 and was able to get my GPS working by flashing the latest AUS radio image (12.28h.60.140f_26.06.02.27). Before flashing it I was still on the old version from tmobile (12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15). After flashing the AUS radio image my GPS started working but I was having problems with the reliability and speed of my data connection, even standing less than 800' from a T-mobile tower I was getting 1.5Mb/s download at best and it would only come in bursts. At that point I flashed the T-mobile image (12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26) from the OTA update and my data problems were fixed, started getting a steady connection and 4Mb/s+ download standing in the exact same spot, AND my GPS was still working. I've rebooted my phone several times since then I used the GPS for about 2 hours strait yesterday so it seems to be persistent and stable.
I have found that if I leave my GPS ON before I flash a new nightly or ROM, that it works fine. I have only ran into the GPS issue a few times but that was because I had it off before I flashed a new build. Never messed switching RADIOs or anything.
Here is what I have done to fix issues:
-If I flashed a new CM7 Gingerbread ROM without GPS ON prior to the flash, I usually go back to CM6 and turn GPS ON and then reflash the CM7 ROM and it works.
-Yesterday had a strange issue though, I went to Flash a new CM7 nightly and sure enough I forgot to leave GPS ON. So I went back to CM6 and tried to turn GPS on and it didn't work. So I then Flashed one of the MIUI ROMs and that still didn't work. So then I tried Flashing the newest Nightly from CM again and it worked very wierd.
That has been my experience with this GPS issue. Some how I have managed to fix it myself without too much trouble. Hopefully this helps people with these issues.

This worked for me also. I backed up RC2 with gps on, flashed MIUI, and then restored and blam it worked! thanks, I needed this so badly.
I had this problem for a while as well. Flashing CM7 #3 did the trick for me. I downloaded a copy of xboarder56's stock GB test ROM today and I have to say it works flawlessly! Smooth and fast and with working GPS.

So from the input I gather that nightlies have not yet fixed the problem. Since I don't need the GPS until the summer I guess I can wait a month or two before searching again...
Gps works fine for me.
Sent from my G2 running Cyanogenmod 7.
Fixed the GPS issue on CM7 by upgrading the radio:
Vision_RADIO_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17. It works just fine in the US.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OKYRIPQW
To flash radio you must have radio s-off using gfree.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764
You need to downgrade to the stock kernel or CM 6.1.0 for gfree to work.
I'm not sure what the problem is either, but I decided to leave the GPS/Navigation running over one night. When I woke up, the GPS fixed itself. I haven't had a problem since then.
use these basic steps to try and fix the gps:

But does it work when you turn GPS on/off/on after rebooting? My GPS works fine after flashing a new radio till I turn it off and back on again.

Locks on within 5 seconds after reboot and turning gps on and off.
Edit: I got it to fail after flipping it on and off a bunch of times. Sigh.

[Q] N4 on Paranoid Android : Camera not working, no signal, doesn't detect sim

So I just Installed PA 3.99.1-RC1-20130914 and PA_GApps-20131018
It's strange to see that there was no Google Chrome by default along with the following issues :
- Camera is not working - on opening the app it simply says Can't connect to camera.
- There is no signal and on searching for networks, it asks for sim.
- Also the PA_OTA app says unable to check for updates, though I'm able to download apps.
Did you come from 4.2? Did you flash the new radio?

Coming from 4.3 . I hadn't flashed it earlier, did just now, Doing factory reset and reinstalling PA and GApps. Hope it helps.
Got stock image and flashed it to make sure everything is latest, flashed PA again but same issues.
Can it be because I'm using 3.99.1 ?
Back to stock for now. Need the SIM to work atleast.

No satellite fix on any kitkat rom. Why?

I tried "every" custom kitkat rom and I never got a satellite fix. It works fine on stock and stock based jelly bean roms. I know that some others have the same issue. I'm on an 802. If you had the same issue and actually solved it please let me know. If you still have the issue, let's find out what we've got in common to find a solution.

Yes, I have. And my carrier shouldn't play a role when it comes to getting a satellite fix. Takk uansett.
First time it can take several minutes, just be patient and on an open location

I see dozens of satellites immediately but they never lock. Not after waiting for hours unfortunately.
You need to do a nandroid, wipe and install a stock based rom, get a gps lock, and then wipe and restore your backup. That's what I ended up doing (also installed the gps fix zip under stock because I still wasn't getting a lock), and it seems to still be working a few days later.

I had to do the same steps. Worked for me as well.
I waited half a year with starting this thread, hours later, @vertigo uploads a build of omni rom which has the issue fixed. Hooray!

[Q] Aut Rotate issue

Up until a couple days ago my phone hasn't had any issues with it. I noticed over the weekend that I can no longer get the phone to rotate. When I go into system settings to calibrate sensors, settings force closes. Anyone have this happen to them? Anyone have any remedies? I was on D801 stock rom, but it also seems to be the case on Paranoid. Seems like a hardware problem, but the settings force close makes me think that maybe it is software related. Thanks for your help!

You tried factory reset?
did you flash a new modem ?
I did, actually. I flashed the modem in the T-Mobile forums from the newest 4.4.2 update. Is that what's causing it? I'll try flashing the older modem and see.
Same problem here. Happens with LG's 4.4.2 and 4.2 Modem.
Also, your compass is lost.
If you go back to 4.2 it works, at least it works here.

GPS not Fixing

Hi guys! I have a SM-G900F and my GPS won't work. I was running Sixperience V7 (GPS was working) ,then wiped and installed cm12.1,but gps wouldn't work so I cleaned my phone by Reinstalling stock BOI3 ITV with Odin. I have tried all the options (GPS Only,Low Power,GPS+Network positions) But it just won't lock, doesn't even search for satellites. Is there something I can do to get it back working? Thanks!
Happened exactly the same to me.... I came back from cm12 to do the GPS fix thing in touchwiz but now it won't even search satellites or get a lock what the hell!! And I'm pretty sure it's not a GPS problem since it was working just before I had cm12.1... Any help appreciated

I tried and now it works,But only on sixperience 7.0 like you! I don't know why it does not work on other ROMS,we must wait for someone who can explain. I have tried stock by using Odin,cm12.1,xstrolite ecc. but without results. Only Six7 works
i had the same problem. try to flash sixperience again, get gps lock and don't turn it off. flash stock again..this worked for me....

Found the fix! go back to sixperience 7.0, get the lock, then download stock from Alexander or something , go to TWRP, ONLY Clean SYSTEM AND DATA, Only those two, flash stock rom and it works! Now we get gps on stock, try it mate!

I think I have had a bad day. I used Odin to flash the stock ROM, the process was successful. But after booting, I had non stop FC messages at welcome screen. Tried other firmware, the issue still persist. I dont know what went wrong then. Now I'm only able to use CM12.1 without fc but obviously GPS doesn't work.

Has anybody still got the v7 file I can't find it anymore All the links have been removed
Captainblade : you can find links to v7 on German site android-hilfe.de just google it.
I had exactly the same issue and thought I fried my GPS as no rom would work. I was researching about the CSC in my phone as restoring to stock would bring another carrier's apps. I used the Phone Info Samsung app on Touchwiz and ever since all roms have worked for GPS. I am thinking either my CSC got corrupted or even my EFS partition
Same problem here Any news on how to fix GPS after Sixexperience V7.
Thanks
@ErnestoD
Download all in one fix and flash via recovery
Do a wipe cache and dalvik cache after flashing
Cheers
