im used to having the 3 dot menu key in the action bar of all my apps. anyone know of a way. i tried the 3dot menu mod on xposed and that didn't work.
anyone?
I'm also interested in this.
Gonna get harder and harder, Google is goign away from that and doign the slide out function in alot of it's apps, and system.
right but what i'm trying to do is add the navigation bar and disable the hardware buttons. if i do that there is no way to access menu unless i add that feature. there is a way to do this being that there is a module for it. but it just doesn't work on the n3 i guess.

On my Evo LTE running CM10 the recent apps button on short press opens settings and long press opens recent apps. I like this function vs having to have a shortcut on the desktop or getting to it from notifications. On most newer phones/tablets running ICS/JB there are mods that remap this function but I've not seen this anywhere for the Nexus. I"m running stock but rooted and would prefer to stay that way if i can. Does anyone either know how to do it or if there's a mod floating around that i was unable to find using "search"?
I would also love to customize what app is opened when sliding up from the soft keys, if that's related.

No that's not exactly what i'm talking about but i would like to do that as well. If i understand correctly if you hold any of the software key/button (IE back, home, or recent apps) and slide your finger up there is a dotted circle with google search button at the top. If i could place the settings app there that would get me by. As for now when i hit the recent apps button i would prefer that to be the settings button or being able to long press the button to open settings. I think what i want is a limitation of the launcher but who knows. Anyone who does have any idea how to do this please let me know. I did attempt to edit the keys file in system/usr/keylayout by trying to add an extra key for settings but it didn't work.
Is there some way to prevent my bottom menu bar from disappearing within apps? Can I lock it? Many apps requiring using the "settings" icon (the 3 vertical bars) to modify function or to perform actions.
Is this something I've caused? Can't seem to find any obvious settings to control this. Did rooting with CWM in place affect this?
Or is this just a function of the program I'm using at the time? These programs, however, seem to expect me to have access to this button.
Thanks

i cant get what your saying :/
are you reffering to the navigation bar?
Hey, I own a nexus 4 16gb, its rooted.
Anyone knows about a good navigation bar alternative ? i can make it disappear with the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 thing but i couldn't find a way to replace it.
I tried the LMT pie, worked pretty well until i got into a game.. for some reason it doesn't work in games, so i just needed to reboot my phone to quit the game.
I remember that i saw somewhere someone with a navigation bar appearing in the menu of long pressing the power key. anyone know how to do that or have another good alternative for a navigation bar ? Thanks
Aokp rom has buttons in the power menu, or you could use gestures; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo

Thanks, are there any more alternatives ?
You can try to add a ribbon to a edge of the screen.
Generally I put pie on the right side and a empty ribbon on the bottom which activate the "application window" ribbon when swiping from the bottom to the center of screen.
This option is present in many roms, including one I'm testing right now the Axiom rom.
Also, I activate Pie only in expanded desktop. You can add this action to the power menu, but I don't know how if you're on stock.
That's all I can do since I use LMT on my tablet with Pie installed too, I've never encountered problems.
is there anyway to customize what a longpress does on each of these (capacitative) buttons?
hoping to change them to
Longpress Menu - Recent Apps Menu (cut down the wear on Home Button)
Longpress Back - Quit/Close current app entirely/go to home.
Phone is rooted and Xposed Framework is installed.
Wanam does not seem to support such customisations yet
any ideas? :X
...!!!!
no one has any ideas at all? :/
Good idea, i want that, too!
Anyone know if any apps either root or none root would allow you to customize the navigation soft keys? I would like to add a menu key option to the current 3 options we have now. Stock LG options dont allow it.
Ill second that miss the menu button

I just downloaded Swiftly from a dev here and I've never been more impressed with a substitute for soft keys. And soft keys are a huge complaint for me.

The paid version is worth it.
