What is the processor temp safe range?

(Title)
I ask because I used SetCPU to overclock in CM7 to 787 (806 locks my phone up), and I want to be sure the temp stays okay.

i'm not sure about an actual temperature range, but i would say anything that doesn't burn your hand when you hold it is acceptable. what build of cm7 are you using? i've been running set cpu set at 806 with nightly builds from a week ago up to today (13-19) with no issues.

Running build 18. 806 has always locked my phone up, even on CM6

But afaik, the temp the phone gives you is the battery temp, not the cpu temp, so it could be much higher than the reported number...
Anyway, 42° is moreless the line temp for me.

Well, if it's just charging you can create a setcpu profile that it lowers the mhz when doing so, so it doesnt heat up too much. At any rate, supposedly every good device should work fine under 50°C, if it's charging without overclock and you still get 46° then it should be safe.

If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. Try loading the "Perfect System Monitor" app from the Market. It will give you CPU temp data. I wouldn't worry about anything under ~50* C.

it's getting hot within a 10-15 min. last day i have just take 2-3 picture of my friend from N4 and it feel hot in hand and same happened at home also is it normal with N4.

You may use an app such as System Tuner to watch your CPU temperature. Mine get 50 celcius after 15minutes playing NFS MW... I dont know if it is still normal.

What version are you on? Mine used to be uncomfortably warm, but since 4.2.2, that has been fixed for me.

Hi,
It feels hot... its very subjective without a real measured CPU or battery temp. Like opticaldh said, install an app with monitoring CPU temp and see. What kernel ?
Also what is the battery temp?

Normal with these kind of games... But without more informations, overclock, underclock, undervolt, what kernel?
In any case with such of but playing heavy game I don't see where is the problem.

at first use it feel hot(over a wifi) at the top of the back panel then (with 4.2.2)i tried to connect it to my pc running win-xp but fail in between it behaves abnormal after some 2-3 restart it work pretty normal(now i am using Bluetooth to share data to pc) but still some lag in touch and heating problem.

I am on Franco kernel, fast CPU, UV 150 (Default for 384Hz is 850, now it is 700). That's what makes me worry.

My Nexus has been getting uncomfortably hot. I first noticed it last night after getting to a friends place and took the phone out. It was really hot and the battery had dropped about 20% for a 15 minute drive. I checked the battery and Google Maps was showing at the top with the most usage even though it wasn't enabled.
I then proceeded to check the settings in Maps and turned off all the location tracking stuff which was unfortunately enabled.
However, even today my phone was again quite warm after driving around. Battery didn't even show Google Maps so that wasn't the cause.
It may have something to do with signal issues always trying to get the strongest signal as it doesn't happen when I am at home and not moving around.

is this your first smartphone? they all get "hot"

Only way to really reduce heat without an impact on performance would be to undervolt. Another way would be to underclock. Both you need a custom kernel to do.

@Detailed, @opticaldh, shutup and stop telling people to undervolt, youll just get them into more trouble.

Matrix kernel runs at 288 MHz when idling, you can under volt it at around 650ma there.
I am running Motley kernel, idling at 308 MHz, UV at 700 ma. The only time I notice my n4 getting hot is when I use GPS and charging simultaneously.

i don't have a problem with heating on my Nexus 4, running latest franco kernel + uv settings makes it a lot cooler than before, when i don't use uv settings it heats up too pretty fast but with those settings it even stays cool on benchmarks and stability tests, cause i don't play on my Nexus 4, could try that out too to see if it gets hot. well it gets slightly warm but never "hot" i would never call it that.

[Q] [email protected] 74C, [email protected] 45C after 4 mins of Stability Test! what to do?

My N4 gets very hot and very fast; after just 4 mins of running stability test 2.7 CPU is at 74C and Battery at 45C...and google's answer was factory reset..... what should i do now? :'(
Note: I'm running stock rom and kernel...

stop running the stability test. thats what the stability test does. now all you are doing is pushing your phones cpu for no reason, and crying about its temperature. good grief!

But it is normal? I know it should get hot but not this fast.. Basically if I run any heavy game for more than 15mins it will get very hot......

Were you charging via usb/ac/orb at the time?

Nope, the idle temp of the CPU is ~40C and Battery is ~30C

its right in the middle of the normal range. sometimes it can get hotter, faster, depending how much you push the cpu/gpu. and it will coll down fast too. idle temp will depend on the surrounding temperatures. remember, human body temp is 37C, so 40C is just a little warmer than your body.

N7 hot

Is it normal for this tablet to feel like a heating pad at the bottom left corner when I'm literally doing nothing but using Fb Messenger n Facebook? It's overclocked by 300 MHz and running cm 11, what do you recommend I do or is this normal?

I tried getting them a few months back and the results are just absolute non sense which most likely means that it doesn't have a temp monitor or whatever the component that allows you to find that out is, thermometer I think.
On battery what's a good app to find out?

However, benchmarks are roughly 50-70% of what they are supposed to be.
I tried to post a screenshot of CPU Spy, previously reseted timers and then ran BasemarkOS and Geekbench. (can't because less of 10 posts )
I see in CPU Spy that Max CPU state is 1555 Mhz? That's the A53 cores, right?
Is this behaviour normal?

According to the Play Store, CPU Spy hasn't been updated in 3 or 5 years. Are you using an app that supports HMP?

No, the device is new, it's running Android 6.0.1, no mods or custom ROM whatsoever.

So what is the best app to monitor cpu activity?
And why are my benchmarks so low?

For instance, I'm only getting ~25k in 3dmark Ice Storm Unlimited, roughly the same as my previous Nexus 6.
According to Anandtech I should be getting ~36k.

Kernel Adiutor is a free kernel manager. I prefer using ElementalX Kernel Manager (paid app). Both work perfectly fine on Marshmallow, support HMP, and receive frequent updates.
If the phone is hot, then benchmarks will suffer. The big cluster gets throttled and goes offline whenever the temperature reaches a certain point. If it is running cool and you see low scores then idk cuz I don't do benchmarks.

If the phone is responsive and fast as you say why do benchmarks scores matter? Benchmarks are pointless, they give you a pretty useless set of numbers that don't equate to real world usage. If your real world usage is good (as you pointed out) then you're wasting time and energy worrying about something that doesn't matter.

I don't care about benchmarks, but they can point to a problem in your phone.
And I really would like to know how a phone sent to hardware testers consistently gets much higher benchmarks than the one I bought. Something's not right.

I've had eight of these and none of them have performed well in benchmarks. Take from that what you will but I believe it's a problem that's common to the SD810, not necessarily that you have a defective unit.

The phone is thermal throttling because the 810 Is overheating and the cores are being turned off. You can thank Qualcomm for their faulty overheating 810 design.

I don;t mind the heat unless it doesn't damage my phone as I;m always using a cover
Any way I can change the throttle limits so that it throttles less?

Using CTT mod but still my Bigger cluster barely turns on
and also kernel Adiutor doesn't work sometimes, whenever I try to change something CPU related, it just keeps loading and loading
