Hi, I'm not sure where exactly to post this but being that it's a Q&A thread I thought it would be alright.
So this past week I was excited to hear that my Sprint Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720) was set to receive an OTA update. I've been waiting since I got the phone to be able to move my apps to my new 64gb sd card along with the lag being fixed. However, after several days (5 I think) I still haven't received an update, it's possible Sprint is still rolling it out to people. For the record my phone is unrooted and I haven't tinkered with any internal files apart from what I mention here and I'd like to keep my phone unrooted.
I tried using Samsung KIES to update the firmware, it had told me I had an update available and I went through the firmware upgrade process. I was disappointed to find that everything was exactly the same, no apps2SD, HDR video, or legibility settings. Later on I was a bit suspicious as to what Samsung Kies installed as now I have a VPN client app that I hadn't noticed before, a Samsung Knox "app" and 2 watchON apps under Application Manager/All.
Next I decided I would just find the OTA file somewhere here, which I did (bfeb51f4befc9f910dff1c6070f2d387aaac37de.update_SPH-L720_MDL_CSB_user_RP_to_MF9_CSB_user_RP.zip), and apply it from my SD card. When I did this I got several errors "Assert failed: Apply patch check", "tmp/sideload/package.zip" and something about "nfcnci.apk". The phone stops the update after a minute or so and reboots, leaving everything the same with no update applied.
Can someone help me out on what I can do to get my phone updated?
You can try going to application manager and wiping cache and data, then stop the app for "Google framework services" and then going to "Update Samsung update" in the system update menu to force the update. You may have to go through the steps several times but it did finally work for me after quite a few attempts. BTW, after doing so, you wont be able to download apps in the play store until you delete your Google acct and then sign back in.

Thanks, I tried this but no luck. I'm hoping that the OTA update won't have any problems installing since the manual update failed.

Make sure when you go to update it has the last date checked 1969, also be on Sprint network not wifi. I tried dozens of times on wifi as soon as I went on Sprint it took.
Still won't work for me

What update did kies offer? I have the vpn app preinstalled but no knox app. Are you sure it was for the right model because the zip file on sd card shouldnt fail like that if you are unrooted, stock.

Yes I'm sure I have the right file for the my phone. From what I read this update should have worked. But for some reason it didn't.
Before kies I was running MDL update and after it finished I was still running the MDL update
Hey everyone, well, school is starting soon and mine uses an organizational email, but when I went to try and add an account on my N4 it gave me the "Could not connect to server" error, I have been reading for ways to fix it and have tried some, from rebooting to moving apk and odex files to the system partition, none of these worked. I've tried setting up a corporate account and that didn't work either.
I am on 4.3 stock rooted, I received the OTA for 4.3 the first day I heard reports of it coming out, I installed it and realized I had to re-root, did so and now Root checker app says it's still rooted, everything works fine, not only does the email error come up, but the 4.3 system update notification is reappearing. I go to install it, it reboots to TWRP and I get an error in the log and it stays in recovery, no "Android is upgrading" prompt on reboot.
Anybody have a clue? I've read other posts about other users email not working after 4.3, anybody else have this 4.3 update reappear?
Any help is appreciated, thanks all.
Screens below:
The update is a new one. Only 1.8 mb but yes it does have the same message as the 4.3 update. No idea about the email problem. Also, ota updates do not work when your device is not 100% stock no modifications at all

I would like to know too! Running SACS V8. Have no desire to update. Would like to know how / where to remove the update from the phone.
freeze SprintID
Well, as far as I know, if you are running a custom recovery (twrp, cwm, etc.) you can click to update. However it will fail because of the custom recovery and should stop bugging you about the update.
I also believe there is a way using root explorer you can delete a certain file, then when you click to update nothing runs. That though you'd have to search for more details.

First I froze fwupdate.apk using Titanium Backup like most threads say to. I think that only prevents it from downloading, but if the update file has already been downloaded, then you'll continue to get notifications.
I then deleted the actual update file from the \cache folder. Still shows under Notification.
So then I removed Notifications from the actual app that displays it - called Google Services (or something like that - don't have phone with me so can't look right now - but you can long-press on the notification to get App Info, then go in and remove Notifications).
Edit: Apparently you don't have to remove all notifications from Google Services, just clear the cache. Btw, my phone is rooted and I had already removed SprintDM.apk and ALL other Sprint related stuff (SprintID, etc) and it still downloaded the update and prompted me.
I woke up on Fri with the update icon on my phone . I'm on mf9 and not ready to update just yet.
This is what I did to get rid of the update notification.
Using root exp go into etc/security/and change otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bat
Then go to system/app/and change SprintDM.apk to SprintDM.apk.bak
I then went into recovery and wiped delvik and cache then rebooted
When it rebooted the icon was still there so I restarted the phone and after it rebooted the icon was gone.

Long press it in the notification tray and then tap "app info" after that uncheck show in notifications.

So I got the update notification again! I had already removed SprintID long ago (and all other Sprint apps) and frozen fwupdate.apk.
Somehow my phone still downloaded the update zip again. I can only think it has to do with one of the Samsung apps which I kept.
Anyways, decided to go into system/build.props and change all the MF9 to MFA. Let's see what happens now. Going to keep Google Services Framework notification on to test.
Well, I changed the build.props file and it cold rebooted fine to the lockscreen but once I enter my pattern code, the screen seems to go completely blank. I have to press the power button twice to go back to the lock screen again. Seems it doesn't like you changing MF9 to MFA in the build.props file!!!!!
Now how to change it back without having to do a restore.....can't see anything or do anything within the phone app itself since screen is blanked out. Any ideas anyone?
Edit: Nevermind, a hard shut down and reboot seems to have fixed whatever glitch that was. Odd....
Fotakill.apk, that worked for me when I was on MDL
Don't know if it works on MF9.
Hi all,
My sprint G2 is currently on the zv8 software version with root and twrp recovery and permanent sim unlock done, today I got a notification for "system update from zv8_13 to zva" but I guess I can't take it, so how to remove it ?, it is showing that it is already downloaded and to reboot to install.
I don't want it to download the update automatically again as am on a limited bandwidth internet plan
Thanks

If you're rooted then either just freeze software update in TB or download fotakill.apk and install that. I'm not rooted and I have the notification In my status bar but I don't want the upgrade. Kitkat makes my battery life suck.

You can easily stop the notification by holding down on it , pressing "app info" and disabling it, if that doesn't work, clear data, force stop.
You can also press the button "stop notifications".

Actually I thought that restarting the phone will install the update automatically which may result in a soft brick but it didn't happen ,and after clearing data it may download the update again, so I have just stopped the notification for now
Okay weird... I updated to kitkat (on accident. Meant to press postpone lol) and... Bluetooth isn't in the list of battery shenanigans. What the what?

And nvm it's back. Good job on the kitkat ota LG.

After flashing kitkat via flash tool, immediately reflashing kitkat and then setting up my device my battery life has been amazing. I still have that Bluetooth reporting thing but it's not effecting my battery. Yaaaaay!

Sorry for thread Necromancy, but this worked for me on ZVA d3rp-g2 bareback for ignoring the ZVC update. (long pressing notification, selecting app info, and disable notification)

Dude! You 'da man!
FOTAKill was not working on my friend's Sprint (SPH-L900) Note 2 (I have used it b4 with no probs).
But I just did what you described and it worked perfectly!
THANK YOU!!!
Btw, on her phone, it was the "Sprint DM Service" that was doing it.
How did I get rid of the system update download notification? I'm rooted and on SAC's
Long press and uncheck show notifications
It doesn't work. I've tried that as well and it keeps coming back.
