If you're an unlucky Verizon user, you don't even need to wait for 4.4 to come because it probably won't be here until mid 2015..

I can't make up my mind. After officially getting the ota 4.3 from tmobile ibfeel like I have control of my phone and should just covert it to the gpe edition. Idk.

Converting to GPE is complex if you haven't tinkered with an HTC before.
First of, you need to unlock the bootloader, then S-OFF using rumrunner, then boot into fastboot and chance your CID to the GPE One "GOOGL001" (without the quotation marks and the CID makes up 8 characters), then flash the GPE RUU to fully convert.
After doing all that, you could if you wanted to, change your model ID (MID) to the GPE One as well but I personally don't think that is necessary as the OTA's seem to allow other MID's and changing the MID is finnicky to say the least. You don't need to lock the bootloader again and you don't need to set S-ON.

Wow thats amazing. Way to go HTC

No. TWRP will flash OTAs but not the firmware portion.
Something cool about T-Mobile Ones. The MID is already acceptable for the newest 4.3 update. So if you are unlocked you can flash a bone stock 4.3 GE build and take the new OTA. If your on a stock recovery (GE or Sense) it will flash the ROM and firmware. All you need to do is flash the splash screen and your good to go.
I'd recommend being S-Off first.

Updated OTA to latest version but...

So I recently unrooted my phone to have Sprint connect it to their services. I updated to the newest software version 2.3.5 but, nothing changed as far as the sense goes. It's still the same old sense since like 2.2. And what I mean it doesn't have the theme changer or shortcuts in the drop down menu. Am I missing something?
I remember unrooting my old EVO to see what the OTA updates were like a while back and seeing the new features. But I remember having to install that update via Sync. Problems is I looked on HTC's website and all over googleville and couldn't find it anywhere. Can somebody please help me with this? And possibly refresh my memory on how to do it via Sync. Thanks in advance.

HTC never updated us to sense 2. Kinda sucks really...HTC even updated phones with less ram and slower processors (for example htc wildfire) but left us with the OG EVO on the old original Sense.
Kinda bullsh*t if you ask me but whatever at this point I get to upgrade in Novemeber, though I would still like to see sense 2 before then.
It wasn't the full sense 2 but it has some of the features like the new lock screen, the drop down menu shortcuts to WiFi networks and such. And the themes changer

Those features have never existed on the stock ROM for the EVO 4G. You must've been running a custom ROM.

You had quick settings in the Notification pulldown and the Sense 3.0 lockscreen stock on your EVO? I don't think so . . .
I am running stock software and I can assure you it does not have quick settings and the unlock screen is the same as my old Hero had so there is no difference. You can download the app called quick setting which will give you the settings in the pull down menu but this is not from HTC.
Oh well maybe I was mistaken but those features are on the stock EVO shift. I don't think I can root since I hot Tue 2.3.5 update

Oh so what would I use to root it? Unrevoked 3 or Forever or another method. Because for some reason my computer can't perform ADB correctly so a manual root is out of the question. Is there a little bit of info for rooting from 2.3.5 somewhere I could reference?

You have to use HTCDev.com to unlock the bootloader on the 2.3.5 version, which allows you to get root. The only other exploit is TacoRoot, which allows you to downgrade to a version rootable with unrEVOked or Revolutionary (you can likewise downgrade after unlocking with HTCDev).

For me it's still true. Dropped mine in the lift twice and my kid smash it directly to the TV rack (solid wood). Some dent visible a the edge of the screen (the plastic parts) and now some dirt is inside the LCD! Still working well :good:
Would returning to stock be the only way to get access to ICS OTA update? Or would flashing a rooted, but otherwise untouched, RUU version give me the option to check for (and install) the OTA When it finally arrives?
I'm guessing not as this would be a far too easy way to do things.

Supercid? That's a new one to me. Heard of it.... Not a clue what it is. I'll give it a search later.
If I where to use the OTA, would that have any effect on root? As in would I lose it?
I'll most likely stay on Leedroid until a suitable custom ROM appears. I imagine that there's a ton of devs poised to whip out the finished article as soon as they get access to the kernel and source material needed.

HTC might Release AOSP Rom for current HTC One users

Nothing confirmed yet, but the future holds a very bright and good ending. Besides, i don't see any reasons why HTC wouldn't do this...considering they would only release 50k units of the HTC ONE Nexus.
This is definitely a win-win for both consumers and HTC.

It's not entirely a win-win. I read that in order for HTC to release such an update (providing AOSP to all normal HTC One owners), they have to go trough every carrier and other legal stuff. I don't remember where I read it and I don't remember exactly what the article said, but the conclusion I remember: it would cost HTC time & money (and stress, probably) to release an AOSP rom for current HTC One owners.
I hope they do it though. Would be awesome!
edit: Ah, I think I just remembered something. They have to go through every carrier because otherwise the AOSP Rom (update) would not be able to legally use the mobile networks of the carriers or something...
hopefully they'd be able to release an aosp rom for carrier unlocked phones without any legal ramifications.
do you think this will pave the way for future android phones to be released with stock android and the specific manufacturer apps (zoe, sense, touchwiz, etc) to be added as separate apps? this would surely cure the 'fragmentation' of android that iPhone users are always complaining about.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It will not be an ota. It will prolly be an ruu, available for developer edition and maybe unlocked international versions. No carrier approval needed
When we have s-off anyone(gsm, anyway) should be able to flash it.
It's kind of neat, but not that big of a deal. You can always run cm if you want AOSP.

Rooted but I staid on stock for a pretty long time until revone came along. I only used that to solve a bad kernel wakelock I was experiencing and knew was fixed in 4.2.2. I wanted to go to stock 4.2.2 but can't since now my device is s-off usage reporting to HTC is on and can't be turned off and that is causing bad battery drain too.
But I think all in all the One is so good out of the box there isn't really a big reason to root....
Rooted just cause I'm deeply in love with ARHD. LOL

There have been a few bricks on aosp and a few bricks with custom roms that I've read about, I believe that the problem is just random faults HTC, can't expect to have so much going on in a phone, mass produce it on a large scale and not have some phones shutting off permanently for unknown reasons. Sorry for ot. I rooted to see what my one is capable of, tried nearly every Rom but now I'm very content with a stock custom rom that allows me to modify and personalise everything that want

I'm stock and unrooted but planning to root after warranty time/no OTAs I love rooting and flashing (got a HTC Desire before and changed it every week ) but always take the OTAs until HTC announce there are no further updates anymore.
I'm pretty satisfied with the One unrooted though. Maybe only (real) negative aspect so far is decreased battery life compared to rooted devices.

Now that this rom is released, does anyone have any idea how long something like this would take to port over?
I'm not sure if it's an easy thing or not. I know AOSP was pushed almost same day, albeit being buggy.

Awesome! That's where I got my 4.3 GPE rom, thanks for the update dude!
I'm not an expert on this, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
By what I understand, the Google Edition ROM runs with little modification on the AT&T S4. The main hurdles are with the kernel, which has to be modified slightly to run on the AT&T S4. Once a developer is able to modify the kernel to run, porting the rest of the ROM over shouldn't be a big deal. The developers are pretty brilliant and quick on this stuff, so I imagine you'll be seeing ports of the GPE ROM here pretty soon.

Basically. I mean, there isn't a significant difference in the hardware between a normal Samsung S4 and a Google Edition S4, except the LTE chips used for retrieving signal (depends on your carrier). So that being said, the kernel shouldn't be a big deal and the ROM shouldn't be either. I'm really hoping to use Kangakat as soon as it's released, I'm a BIG fan of Kangabean and have been using it along with Omega ROM with dual boot. Can't wait for this! Thanks for the good news! International s4 has several roms for google edition 4.4 already. I wouldn't flash them just yet because roms for our phone are just around the corner.

This is a great question....
I was PLANNING on flashing a 4.3 ROM but I seriously might just wait out till 4.4 ROMS...
How long do you think it would be? A couple months? A couple weeks? 3 seconds?

Been monitoring the thread posted above, looks like there is one small issue for them to resolve with the Kernel and the 4.4 GPE rom will be ready
Here's to hoping for tomorrow

yep, it's being worked on
not quite sure what is going on with keystore, but it's causing a force close of settings. I've been in touch with both faux and ktoonsez and they are actively working on a fix

EDIT - Answered my own question, guess it won't work on an ATT S4.

Why wouldn't it? They are the exact same device I thought.
The article states that this is the OTA, not a standalone ROM - am I wrong in thinking that it couldn't be installed?

Yes you are. The S4 Snapdragon variants (Google Play Edition, AT&T, etc) all have the exact same hardware. It will run perfectly as a flashed ROM once it's finished be g developed. Why wouldn't it?

Well, yeah, after development, but this seems to currently be installable on the I9505G, not the I337. At least according to the article, comments there, and what I've seen on the I9505G forum.

The I9505G is the exact same thing...
