how to unroot and go stock mf9 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

so cant really find anything that helps the answer I am looking for
Sprint updated my phone to mf9 than I rooted it
now I am thinking I want to go back to stock mf9 and clean the counter
I know I need to use triangle away and read that once you use it stop the reboot and load stock mf9 and it will make it look like everything is stock and wouldnt have tripped the counter
is this true?
I used odin to root it but other than the hotspot mod I dont really need it rooted

1) This goes in the Q&A forum.
2) There are tons of guides available on how to do this. Search is your friend.

Exchanging with Custom Status

Anyone done this? Do they care/check? And how would I go about resetting it if I do want to exchange it? I tried flashing the stock software, but it doesn't seem to go back. And now I'm unable to OR A update.
Thanks

I exchanged mine, but i made sure mine was Official status prior to sending it back. Did not want to take the chance
I used Triangle away then followed known instructions to unroot (or do as you did and flash stock)

I've checked through multiple sections (i9505, i9500, i337M). Tried flashing through ODIN, tried doing a bunch of other stuff. Used the search function multiple times. I can't seem to find anything thats tried and true that has worked.
If you could link me, that would be amazing.

Just did triangle Away, Now im going to reflash through Odin. Ill see what happens.
EDIT: Not working, Status Still says Custom :S. What did you do to remove your Root?
EDIT2: Did a Full wipe, Triangle Away and Odin Flash. Now im back to official .
If I root, Official will not be lost, its only if I flash something, correct?
EDIT3: Just rooted, and im back to Custom Status. Is there any way to maintain root while still having OTA capabilities?
If you return and they notice that you have a custom status, your account is going to be blacklisted and your warranty voided in the system... That's what happened to one of my friend.
Have you tried removing SuperUser and replacing it with SuperSU?
Triangle away will not work with the galaxy s4 for Att. Just install supersu. Open it and update the binary. Delete su and busybox from \system\xbin. Then uninstall superuser. Reboot twice and all should be well. You should still have root with supersu app after doing this.
You can Odin back after this for a clean start.

[Q] Need help with MF9 GS4 OTA update

Hi all. I saw this update pop up on my screen recently. I've yet to install it because I do not fully understand its effects and/or what i need to do to make sure it installs correctly.
I rooted my phone using ODIN and the Chainfire autoroot thing on June 16th 2013 (in case dates are important here). I believe i also flashed something that allowed me to use the stock wireless tethering application. I may have also flashed triangle away. I'm not exactly sure. But I at least flashed something to allow me to use the wireless tether.
Ordinarily I'd search around and try to find info about this, but one problem with these forums is that sometimes information gets scattered across posts or even threads. Also I see a lot of conflicting information. So it's very hard for me to distill the appropriate details.
Could someone help me figure out the following, as I would like to install the new update:
1.) What do I need to do prior to the update to make sure it installs correctly?
2.) What, if any effects will this have on my ability to root my phone again in the future? (if i need to, based on the answer to number one)
3.) What will i need to do POST update to get my phone back to the way it was PRE update? (again, if i need to do anything based on number 1).
Thank you all!
1) Make a nandroid in recovery. Either wipe your phone or dirty flash a stock rooted md9 ROM.
2) it will not have any affects on your ability to root. You can use cf auto root on MDL and mf9.
3) nandroid is the best way to go back to your old setup if you do not like the new mf9 update.

Good luck.

att s4 mf3 with safestrap/twrp running 4.2.2 but want to use CWM and run 4.4

So i rooted and used safestrap to install my 4.2.2 rom a little while back when that was all that was available. Now i cant find out how people are moving away from this old 4.2.2 junk and moving to 4.3 or 4.4
I know safestrap i have only works with certain TouchWiz roms (found that out when i triend to use CM a while back) and that is a headache only having really the plain google rom available to use.
any help would be appreciated, its been annoying
Read the "pinned" threads in General and Q&A and make sure to read the threads about 4.3 and 4.2 in the same places (General and Q&A sections). The questions you asked have been asked and answered several times already Good luck
Unfortunately on MF3 you only have safestrap and that's it. No CWM recovery exists.

THANKS!! wish that other person would of just said that! ive been looking and looking, and there is no possible way to get off MF3? odin and install a flash image from prior to MF3? anything? haha
i tried to install CWM like an idiot cause i couldnt find anything saying NO and it soft bricked my phone, got that all sorted out and now just back to the 4.2.2 google rom
just so plain and basic, its the same I had on my skyrocket for a year.. i bought the skyrocket the day it came out and got the s4 the day it came out too.... wanting 4.4 so bad lol
There is a q-fuse that is raised when updated to mf3 preventing a downgrade to happening.

Read the second post of this sticky thread, it states if you try to install a custom recovery on MF3 you will hose your device.
Lucky we have the MF3 odin files now so we can recover from soft bricks (that post was created before the MF3 files were leaked).
Glad to hear you got it sorted out though.

Does this mean we can now load an old version of the firmware from before mf3?

Still on MDL and don't know what to do...

OK this section says noob questions welcome, so I'm hoping I can get some advice. I actually did pretty well on the OG evo but when I came to the S4 I rooted, flashed frees rom, and didn't look back. Well as much of a tribute that it is to the rom, I really fell behind. I'm on 4.2.2 MDL and I've missed several updates. Now there's MJA, MK2 and maybe one in-between I missed. So my question is how do I upgrade ? Can I simply upgrade to a custom rom? I think I read that I need to upgrade my recovery. Can I just download that recovery and flash it like a custom rom? Do I even want to go to MJA or MK2 because everyone complains about Knox. I read you can upgrade but keep your boot loader...the problem is that I feel like my phone is way far behind. Any suggestions? As far as from preferences I'm happy with touchwiz and it looking fairly stock so long as I have hotspots mod the rom will work for me. Hopefully I can get some advice from anyone. If you read this I appreciate your time and consideration. Thanks.

My opinion is I haven't taken it and won't just for the fact I Dont like the idea of Sammy locking me down!! Lol and that I Dont care for tw but reality is almost all the custom tw ROMs are 4.3 now so you'll still have plenty to choose from if you make the leap! But IMHO 4.4 kit kat is where its at!

Download the MK2 firmware and the latest Philz touch recovery from the dev section. This will allow you to flash 4.3 ROMs and get you up to date.

This is another option working for me. You would have to flash mf9 firmware 1st.
First off thank you for the link to those instructions they were very easy to follow. Everything is updated to 4.3 and I'm on MJA baseband. I did mess up and forgot to flash the MF9 firmware first so when I booted up I had a system update notification. I simply held it down, went to app info and unchecked notifications. I'm assuming nothing should effect me since all my other stuff is correct. Thanks again for the assistance in this thread. Awesome getting the answers and guidance necessary.

[Q] AT&T galaxy s4 mk2 recovery

I just rooted my AT&T galaxy S4 mk2 build and now i cant find a recovery for it anywhere. Do i just need to wait or is there something already out??Please help i haven't rooted a phone in 3 years and i'm just now getting back into it.
Go into the development section and get Safestrap. That's the only thing you can use, no true custom recovery. Make sure you read through the first pages of the thread and maybe some of the Q/A thread before doing anything.

Welcome to XDA.
Please keep in mind that this community is absolutely hammered by folks asking the same basic questions over and over and over again. It drives us nuts.
You get a one-time pass for being new.
But in the future, please use the search function for questions that you think have probably already been asked.
