Anyone done this? Do they care/check? And how would I go about resetting it if I do want to exchange it? I tried flashing the stock software, but it doesn't seem to go back. And now I'm unable to OR A update.
Thanks

I exchanged mine, but i made sure mine was Official status prior to sending it back. Did not want to take the chance
I used Triangle away then followed known instructions to unroot (or do as you did and flash stock)

I've checked through multiple sections (i9505, i9500, i337M). Tried flashing through ODIN, tried doing a bunch of other stuff. Used the search function multiple times. I can't seem to find anything thats tried and true that has worked.
If you could link me, that would be amazing.

Just did triangle Away, Now im going to reflash through Odin. Ill see what happens.
EDIT: Not working, Status Still says Custom :S. What did you do to remove your Root?
EDIT2: Did a Full wipe, Triangle Away and Odin Flash. Now im back to official .
If I root, Official will not be lost, its only if I flash something, correct?
EDIT3: Just rooted, and im back to Custom Status. Is there any way to maintain root while still having OTA capabilities?
If you return and they notice that you have a custom status, your account is going to be blacklisted and your warranty voided in the system... That's what happened to one of my friend.
Have you tried removing SuperUser and replacing it with SuperSU?
Triangle away will not work with the galaxy s4 for Att. Just install supersu. Open it and update the binary. Delete su and busybox from \system\xbin. Then uninstall superuser. Reboot twice and all should be well. You should still have root with supersu app after doing this.
You can Odin back after this for a clean start.

Means you rooted properly? Whenever I have to reroot, as long as I follow the steps provided I don't even get the custom screen, and this is on my 16Gb.
Use root checker to verify root though.

Oh yeah definitely rooted
I rooted an follow the instructions to avoid the custom unlock Icon. No problem it did not show. Then three days later when I started the phone in the morning it showed. I tried unrooting (then no Icon) and rerooting but nothing seems to work, still have the Icon. I used both method the original and the revised to reroot.
Yes. Has nothing to do with rooting 'correctly'. It will reappear eventually. Always does.

No biggie really. Especially since we have the stock firmware and ODIN in case we need to restore it to factory.

I guess, it just makes me wonder though, what's going on in the background of the phone that sets it back into custom mode. You're right though, it's not really a big deal since we can ODIN back

Mine has always been there too but I don't care that much. I also debloated it so I suspect that's why mine is "custom".

Might be an answered question. Was just wondering if there's anyway to disable the autoupdate. I like my S4 the way it is right now and don't want any chance that it might autoupdate to android 4.3 which can mess up rooting etc even though i have rootkeeper. At least til issues with new android ver are all clear. So anyway to disable this auto os update? thnx..
Your rooted that's enough to disable I believe cus it wont update if modified. .I might be wrong

Rooted my nexus 10 and that didn't prevent it from dnlding the update. At least it has the decency not to go ahead w installing the downloaded update. Now I hv this constant notification on the status bar to install it. Don't want this to happen also to S4
4.3 is at least 1-2 months away so I doubt you need to do this. And got a blunt is mostly right. Being rooted will not allow the installation to happen. It will download the update and tell you have a system update but it won't install on its own.

So any danger of me inadvertently clicking on the update notification and update happens and wiping out my settings? or rooting won't let it updated at all and to update you have to go back to stock first?

The only way of being able to update its just having a rooted phone with no mods in someway and also having stock recovery, if you are rooted with a custom rom or mods and have a different recovery then yes if you click the update accidently then you wont have no problem what so ever its just going to abort.

On my rooted S4 (CF-auto-root), I also have TWRP recovery installed. So this would qualify then as a different recovery? Additionally i also got MF9HotspotMod-Odexed and international SIM unlock on there. So i am guessing all this should be enough to prevent any update?
OTAs won't flash in custom recoveries. If you for some reason hit install update it would boot into recovery and try to install but fail.

After just playing around with odin.
I think i have found a fix.
I flashed http://downloads.fairview5.com/i337/I337UCUEMJ6_full_wipe.tar.md5.7z through odin and it went through for the first time.
Then i used the pit file called "SGS-I337_16GB.pit" idk where it is but it's on the forums
Note:This will upgrade your phone to 4.3 and there are no root methods for 4.3 as of right now.Plus there might be some problems with the playstore.(i haven't encounter any yet)
Also remember that you can go to bestbuy and ask them to flash your phone so you can stay on 4.2.2. This is for people who just want to fix it now instead of going to a store.
Credit to jball and rayburne for telling me to put the downsides and other opitions
Cool deal buddy

Yes and it works like a charm.
I still have no clue why it can flash with odin if you're on MF3, regardless i am happy with it as it is the only rom that you can flash (that i know of) if you're on MF3.
Just a word of caution to anybody who wants to try this, there is no root method for it and playstore is having some issues installing some apps.

I'm glad you were able to fix your phone and share with other to help them out, but I feel this title is a little misleading.
Yes you are fixing a soft bricked MF3 phone but the fix is upgrading them to MJ6 4.3. I understand a fixed MJ6 phone is better than a broken MF3 phone but I think it should be mentioned in your instructions. Best Buy is an alternative to fixing your phone and remaining on 4.2.2. Maybe a fix is around the corner for MF3 soft bricks that won't apply to MJ6 devices (yes I agree high unlikely but it should be mentioned this is upgrading the user to 4.3).
Sorry to hear your troubles with Safestrap. I'm on MF3 using SS and not had a problem. I think I have installed most of the 4.2.2 ATT and International Roms without issue. With what you described above about SS, I can only guess that SS has a bug that you encountered that affected your stock slot or you mistakenly wiped or flashed something to your stock slot that hosed your MF3 stock slot. Either way glad you recovered and shared your fix.

Hello all, if anyone could please help me, I would be extremely grateful.
I updated my Cyanogenmod nightly to the release for December 8th, 2013. The download seemed to be fine, it rebooted into the twrp, and then it rebooted, but then my phone never loaded back up. I tried restarting my phone with the power button, and eventually resulted to the battery pull, but yet my phone still wouldn't load.
I then tried going into the twrp again, and tried to flash a nightly upload that I had used from December 4th, it seemed to of loaded, but again my phone never loaded up.
I tired all day to use Odin to flash the ATT stock firmware, but I kept getting an ODIN FAILED error. I tried several different firmware downloads for ATT, and again, still no luck.
I am really upset over this, and would love to know why the update didn't work, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, how do I fix my device???
Samsung experience shop
Go to a Best buy with a local Samsung Experience center. They can flash the Latest 4.3 software on it from your carrier as long as it turns on and gets to download mode. I did the same thing to mine a month or so back and it saved my phone haha. Its a cool tool they have that i wish i could some how pirate haha

I was actually able to unbrick my phone using the Kies app for Mac. I don't know why I didn't try this earlier. I suppose I was trying to hold onto my root, and ability to flash custom roms onto my phone. Less than 24 hours of stock firmware, and I'm already annoyed. I also ran an update from At&T, and now I'm on 4.3. I'm still a n00b when it comes to the rooting and flashing. Yes, I can manage to follow and read directions to get my phone loaded with custom roms. But here's where I'm at now....
I'm running an unrooted AT&T Galaxy S4 with 4.3. I want Cyanogenmod back, and I want it now!!!

you can root it, but that will trip the knox counter to 0x1,
id suggest going into download mode to see if you've tripped the knox counter to 0x1, if not and you want no warranty go to the original dev thread and look for ways on rooting there
if your wanting warrenty, your pretty much hooped then bud...

Unfortunately at this point, you have root through vroot or kingo and that is all I can say. You cannot install a custom recovery, so no cyanogen

I ran multiple searches over XDA and the Internet, but I cannot find a conclusive way to safely remove root from MF3. It seems like all the info out there is old and not applicable.
With that said, I would greatly appreciate a point in the right direction. Thank you!

There's no issues. It works just fine, the only thing is that it will give you a custom flag if you have busybox installed. You could always get an installer from the market to check and remove it an then unroot.

When I click on Software update, the phone does not respond or even attempt to look for an update. Kies says I'm running the latest firmware... what am I doing wrong.
