Wifi model was unlocked and rooted with Franco kernel. Tried flashing stock and getting from 4.2.2 to 4.3 via toolkit and the download stopped got stuck before it took. So it was left with no OS. Tried everything I could that was simple(I'm a total noob) but could do nothing with it to get back to stock. Did factory reset and tried to go that route based on several guides it's worked for others but isn't working for me so far.
Can get to twrp using the temporary boot custom recovery in wugs toolkit. Have pushed a 4.2.2 nakasi zip into the twerp as well as USB drivers zip. They are in 'install' in twrp. The install attempts always fail. Have tried sideload with toolkit, stock recovery etc...etc... It either can't find device or times out waiting for device. Help wold much appreciated, apologizing ahead of time for being a noob who got in deeper than I should have.
Need help anybody have any ideas?

Either you are on the wrong subforum or you are confused what software you should be using. 4.2.2 was never released for Nexus 7 2013 and it is flo or deb, not nakasi, which was previous nexus 7.
As to your problem, you might have better results flashing the factory restore.

Hi I have a Nexus 7 version (4.1.2 OTA).
I wanted to ask what the deal is or what I'm doing wrong. I purchased the full version of Nexus ToolKit 7. According to the instructions I made the unlocked bootloader and I wanted to root but each attempt failed.
I do not know what I could do wrong when root is fully automated.
PS: I also tried to reflash Stock Rom (4.1.2)
I enclose a picture attachments with an error message

Hi. Yes mam (usb debugging on) have a look to the attachment.
Toolkit me boot into fastboot then reboot then for something to fastboot loaded and back to android and trying to upload the files but nothing superuser is not recorded because of (read-only file system).
have a look on the attachment is there to see everything ...
yep same issue here - problem with the forum regs is unless you have enough posts you can't actually address the issue to the appropriate person can you? Anyway, able to unlock but then is unable to root and rest due to a permissions problem. have tried as administrator but of coure this doesn't make any difference.

You can try flashing CWM recovery and installing Superuser from there.
Download Superuser and copy it to your /sdcard
Flash CWM recovery
Install Superuser from CWM
????
Profit.

Thanks comminus - but I think that if we could do this then we wouldn't be using the tool kit.

Why not try before you give up? Nothing I suggested is even remotely challenging.
With your tablet booted normally plug it in to your computer and copy the superuser zip in my previous post to the Download directory on your Nexus 7 from Windows.
Judging by the first provided screenshot I can see that option 6 in that toolkit is for flashing recovery. Why not try that?
As far as how to install the zip from ClockworkMod (CWM), there are literally hundreds of threads and YouTube videos that will show you what to do. The better option is to spend a few minutes (literately. It only takes a few minutes.) to learn some basic fastboot commands. If you're willing to learn there are many people who will help.

Thx you for your post
But in the Nexus7 ToolKit can be done but is ClockworkMod must first rename (recovery restore files) but with da only when I have ROOT.
And why unnecessary to install CWM and resolve other problems I'll eat a connection. If "simply" can I ROOT who create me rich enough.

Choose #1 in your first screenshot.
After you install CWM make sure you boot recovery before a standard boot. On rebooting from CWM it will say something like "ROM may flash stock recovery on boot." and prompt with yes or no. Choose yes - this renames /system/recovery-from-boot.p and prevents the ROM from restoring stock recovery.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say...
I tried quite a few times to root my Nexus 7 with the Nexus 7 toolkit, it hung every time when it was supposed to be installing SuperSU and BusyBox. Every time the last message I saw was "adbd already running as root", and it would just hang there. Everything else appeared to work properly. The only tool I was able to successfully use (more than once) was the Nexus Root Toolkit from Wugfresh http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475. You may want to try that tool.

I'm also having this same problem but here's my story:
Using the Nexus 1.5.4 Toolkit, I Unrooted + Flashed jzo54k, success. I locked OEM, success. I unlocked again, success. Then I ran the root process again, and it keeps freezing at the android recovery screen. Following the prompt in the toolkit, I walked away for a few hours hoping time would resolve the issue.
If you're wondering why I unlocked + rooted, and decided to unroot, lock, unlock, and root again, its because I'm super-noob to anything android related after version 1.5, I wanted to learn the processes after I found out I was having troubles with certian things after my Nexus 7 updated from 4.1 to 4.1.2
I am having the same issue as you. 4.1.2 is not rooting for me. I can't install CWM or TWRP because it needs to rename recovery files, and to do that you need to be rooted. If I boot in recovery I always get stock
Having the same issue with a stock 4.1.2. I can unlock no problem but I cannot get it rooted. Everything appears to have worked, but it is not rooted. If I revert back to 4.1.1 I can unlock, root, etc. without issue. I was able to root 4.1.1 and use the root keeper app to then update to 4.1.2 and I was rooted still. However, it would not let me install CWM or anything. ROM Manager says it was installed, but booting to recovery always too me to stock.
Any ideas?

I used Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.4 and selected the "Flash Stock + Unroot" option. When prompted I choose the default 4.1.1 option and away it went.
To root my 32Gb on 4.1.2 I had to unlock the boot loader, flash the boot loader back to version 3.34, and then I successfully rooted using the nexus 7 toolkit.

In short, I rooted my nexus 7 and downloaded twrp today. I've never rooted anything before but I successfully rooted and installed twrp to my nexus. Along the setup of flashing a rom in twrp, I accidentally deleted everything. The only things I can access is the Google screen with the unlock icon and twrp. My computer is recognizing the nexus as an unspecified android device. Is there any way to flash the original stock rom because now I'm stuck with a brand new nexus that can't do anything? Please help!

I had to do the same thing the other day. I used the method ngoralph just mentioned. Easy peasy. Also after you use option 9 you may want to just go ahead and use option 8. Yes it installs CWM but you can just flash TWRP afterwards if you prefer.
Option 9 worked perfectly. Did not screw up the second time. Thanks for all your help!

Good to hear. Nothing with Android is ever truly messed up if you can get to fastboot mode. Oh and I'm not sure if you have done so or not but if you donate a couple of bucks to the dev of the Toolkit it unlocks the kit update option. There is a much newer kit version out that adds options.
I have a Nexus 4, 4.3 JWR66V , Stock ROM and on Franco's Kernel currently and am looking to OTA update to later builds and eventually KitKat.
I've got the OTA requests on my phone and am trying to return to STOCK (following Efrant's guide and other threads) so I can apply them. But I can't find a stock Kernel for JWR66V? There is one for JWR66Y which I understand should work, however when I load it to Boot (using WugFresh Nexus Toolkit) my phone does not switch on fully (blank screen).
Can you please point me in the direction of a JWR66V stock kernel that will work or help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!:good:

Thanks mate - again I'm struggling to find the Nexus factory images for JWR66V - I can only seem them for JWR66Y and this boot.img didn't work for me.
Flash the JWR66Y images... system, boot, recovery, radio, and bootloader. As long as you don't flash the userdata.img, your data won't get wiped.

Ok thanks mate...going to try that right now and report back.
Are you (or anyone else) familiar with the Wug Fresh Nexus Root Toolkit? Is the Boot/Flash image utility in this a good way to flash images? The Boot image option lets you preview the .img and then reverts back to the old one upon reboot - sounds good to me but anything I should check/be wary of when using this?

have flashed all of those files using adb fastboot - still says my kernel is the franco one though?!
i noticed after i flashed all of those files (the boot one being the last) that it rebooted with a blank screen. i then have to switch off, switch on, it turns on as normal but shows the kernel is still the same in settings.
just to check i am doing this right - i put the phone in fastboot mode and through a cmd prompt, flash each img one at a time. is there a way to flash them all at once? i suspect not all of them are flashing...
You can flash the "flashall.bat", that will flash all of the images in one command. That's strange that flashing the boot.img doesn't overwrite the franco kernel. Perhaps try to "fastboot reboot-bootloader" between each .img.
Hmm
Ok I managed to flash all the files now...bootloader radio boot recovery and system - but my phone is not switching on. It get's stuck at the Nexus X logo and doesn't go beyond that!
Any ideas please?
Update - just went in to the stock recovery and wiped cache too....seem to be stuck on the X but it says "Android is Upgrading too"....hopefully this will work now!
Good news - it all worked! Clearing the cache did the trick and I have now OTA'd all the way to 4.4.2!
Thanks for your help mate and everyone else :good::laugh:
This is my first post here because I usually find answers on my own but this seems to be an unsolved issue everywhere so please excuse me if I do not follow a proper format.
My Nexus 4's USB is broken (not the wire, but the actual microUSB) so I can charge fine but cannot connect to the computer. It is unlocked and rooted and I do not mind losing my data (everything is backed up) but I cannot get the update without a PC.
A way to get the update very easily and without losing data was to flash the OTA zip using TWRP 2.7 but it gave me an error saying it cannot install zips from sdcard. So I flashed the latest CWM which can do it but it gave me an error saying "package expects build fingerprint of google/occam/mako:4.4.4/KTU84P/1227136:user/release-keys or googleoccam/mako:5.0/LRX21P/1570855:user/release-keys; this device has google/occam/mako:4.3/JWR66Y/779366:user/release-keys." but my phone has 4.4.4 KTU84P and I know that. I am wondering if it is because of the weird looking kernel I have due to my use of Wug's NRT in the past so I flashed stock recovery to factory reset but when I found out my phone was going to be locked again, I flashed CWM using Flashify again. I'm attaching the screenshot of my 'about' below.
Since I do not mind losing data by flashing a factory image, is there any way I can do it without connecting it to the PC? Because I really want this phone to return to stock? (I know with Flashify you cannot) but I'm apprehensive of locking the phone again because I'd really like to root and install custom recoveries etc.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you! This is a working solution, got the sweet OTA on my phone!
Requesting the mods to close this thread. Thank you!
Same problem for me (but to go to 5.0.1 from 5.0)
I re-flashed stock kernel and radio, but still the same message.
Why this 4.3 message??
Edit : wait, I forgot to flash stock recovery
So I flashed the 7.1.1 update and everything was fine. I then tried to root through TWRP with the most recent version of recovery and and SuperSu and when I went to reboot it would get to the "Google" splash screen and go back to the warning. I then tried to restore to my Nandroid that I made right before the 7.1.1 flash but it does the same thing. I ended up doing a factory reset, still looping. I tried flashing an old firmware but it still would loop. I got desperate and did a full wipe and then flashed the old firmware from September's update but it still will not boot. I'm a long time lurker I just don't post much. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well if you cant access twrp then your not flashing anything; did you try downloading the latest Nexus 6p factory image and using adb to flash it?? Make sure your using twrp 3.0.2-2; and download the latest factory image for the Nexus 6p (NBD90X) and use adb (fastboot) to flash that whole thing. Extract the files to your android sdk platform tools folder then run the flash-all.bat file. (If you are using a 64gb or 128gb device DONT DO THIS) Only do this with the 32gb model. Have you tried WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit? Not sure if it will work for your situation, but it has an option to restore to factory settings and unroot if you're soft-bricked or bootlooped. Might be worth a shot if everything else isn't working.
FWIW, I successfully updated to 7.1.1 NPF10C and rooted by using fastboot to flash bootloader, radio, boot, system, and vendor. Then used TWRP 3.0.2-2 to flash SuperSU 2.78 SR1. No issues.

Have you tried WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit? Not sure if it will work for your situation, but it has an option to restore to factory settings and unroot if you're soft-bricked or bootlooped. Might be worth a shot if everything else isn't working.
