CM Updates - Nook HD, HD+ General

Hello,
I have a Nook HD and it has been rooted with CM version 10.1-20130615-unoffical-hummingbid - android version 4.2.2. A few times the device has said there are updates that I should download. In settings, I see two updates available CM-10.1.3-RC2 and cm-10.1.3. My question can I just hit the download button and it will update automatically? Which one should I download? Will I lose everything that has been downloaded and I will have to reinstall everything (not a big deal)?
Thanks in advance for the guidance!

It depends on how you installed it originally. That is an old unofficial version. And it depends on whether you installed the internal CWM recovery, which I doubt since your ROM is that old.
The one you want to install is the CM10.1.3, that is the latest. If you install it over your old ROM, all your apps and settings will stay.
I recommend not using the auto update since so much is not known. But you should be safe to do it manually. Just go to the CM site and download the hummingbird CM10.1.3 zip and flash it with your bootable CWM SD.

Thanks Leapinlar - can you please provide the link to CM 10.1.3 and the instructions to install over my old ROM?

Go to the dummies guide for installing CM10.1. Follow the directions there for updating.

Leapinlar - I went to the dummies thread and found the link to the 10.1.3 stable version. But the updating instructions in the dummies thread says to update via the auto update in settings. You recommended that I don't do that and install 10.1.3 over the existing one. Do I just download the 10.1.3 and then boot into recovery and install 10.1.3 that way???

If you installed CWM to internal memory per the instructions in that thread, then you can use the CMupdater. If you have not, then download the CM zip manually and boot to your bootable SD and install it.

I believe I installed CWM to internal memory - is there a easy way to check this before I try the updater?

Just try the update, if it days install failed, it means it is not installed and then do it manually.

Thanks, the update using the OS worked, no need to do it manually. Do I need to update GAAPS?

Since you ROM was so old, I recommend updating gapps to 20130812.

Leapinlar - I went to the dummies thread and clicked the link for the Gaaps - it says it can't find the file - see link.

Can you point me to the correct site for the latest GAAPS? Also, how do I update the GAAPS?
Thanks,

Nook color Cm7 stuck after cwm update

I had a nightly build of Cm7 on my Nook color
I was using Rom manager to update cwm so that I could flash back to original stock Rom to give this as a gift for someone. now when the device reboots it won't load into cwm or reboot into Cm7. What should I do. I don't care about the data and I already have the signed 1.4.1 cwm stock. Zip on the sdcard.

Look at my tips thread linked in my signature. Your new CWM did not get copied properly and you are now in a recovery bootloop. Look at items A8 and A12.

Instead of complaining about the way I was helping you (which, by the way, is very rude), you could have searched xda. I did tell you what was wrong.
There is nothing confusing about my signature. It is very simple. You probably cannot see my signature because you are looking at XDA on your device with the xda app which does not show signatures. If you were using a browser the signature shows. You could have long pressed on the post in the xda app and it would have given you the option of opening the post in a browser.
If you want help, look there. The only way you are going to get out of this loop is to follow the procedures in my thread.

You basically have three options.
Run a rooted stock on internal memory. To get that use Manual Nooter 5.08.20 in the development thread. Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22480277
Run a Cyanogenmod (CM) ROM on internal memory, replacing stock. Use eyeballers guide to set that up. Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12797652
Or run a CM ROM from a bootable SD. Use my NC updated SD installation guide linked in my signature.
They each work equally well, just depends on what you want.

Right i understand that i was jut wondering why nobody follows the method on the cm website. Does it not work for certain versions? Does it not work at all?

It is probably out of date. Do you have a link. I could look.

That should work, but is so much more difficult than the eyeballer method. You have to make an unooter card, root stock with it so you can use ROM Manager. Then run ROM Manager to install CWM, boot to the new CWM and flash the CM ROM. A lot of extra steps. With eyeballers guide you just make a CWM card and flash with that. No need to root stock first.

[Q] install CM11 internally on nook color

Hello,
I've been reading up on cm11, and finally decided to duct off the old NC sitting on the shelf (CM9), and update to cm11.
I was using a release after 5-16 (or 5-15)? (encore of course)...
and cwm 6.0.4.8
I installed CM9 a few years back, so I'm no stranger to this, but the update to cm11 is not taking, there was a few times it booted up, but I couldn't do anything on it, then it froze.
My question is, are there any step by step guides, to wipe this thing clean and start over, to get it up to cm11 internally, not from sd card? (including all files needed)?
Thanks in advance, and for breathing new life into the Nook Color!
I can help you with wiping clean and starting over, but not on getting CM11 going.
Go to my NC tips thread linked in my signature and make a new bootable CWM SD per item A10 (the 6048 version you have now will not work). The follow item A15 to get stock back. Remember to use the formatting zip there too.

Thanks for the quick reply leapinlar! I feel like I am halfway there!
I went to your thread, and formatted the partitions using the smaller CWM, and then got the 6.0.1.2 to install the NC 1.4.3, and it looks like a brand new nook!
I may just go to the thread I saw and install CM11 to sd ( I believe you were the author of that guide also).
I just heard it ran quicker if it was on the emmc....
I am running cm11 on my nook color emmc right now. Used cwm6048 to do it.

Advice for a Newbie - Porting from SD card to Internal Flash

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to upgrade an old Nook Color with CM7 installed on the SDcard and want to flash to internal memory to whatever newest / fastest rom / build and would like some advice or links. I tried searching the forum but nothing came up with recent roms / or this specific circumstance.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Just start over with reburning the SD per the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2629337
That puts a fresh installation of CM11 on internal memory. It does not matter what you were running on the SD prior.

Thanks for the help leapinlar! Reading the link it says cm11 has slow video playback so I'm going to try and see if cm10 or cm9 has better video as that will be one of the main uses.

Cannot install Google apps

I installed Cyanogenmod 10.2.1 flawlessly. Strangely when I install gapps in recovery mode (TWRP 2.3.0.2) with no error, gapps won't show up without any error. I tried 4 different packages of gapps that were available, still the same problem.

Make sure you are using the right version of gapps to match CM10.2. It needs 20130813.

Exact version or it can be of later versions?
gapps-jb-20130813-signed is one of the zip files I tried.
There is no smallest trace of these zip files after a normal boot.

Must be exact. Later versions are for later versions of CM. Since you tried so many versions you probably need to use CWM to format /system and reflash both CM10.2.1 and the proper gapps.

So if I get cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-encore.zip, how can I tell which gapps should I use? Now that I am doing it again. Why not installing the last version...
Thank you
[edit]
Found this: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
And remembered that I must had the correct version installed from the start. Anyways I will get the latest snapshot (the one I mentioned and will get the gapps for it).

Yes, the versions must match each other. If you are going to update CM to CM11, you must use CWM 6045 or newer too.

You are using too old a version of TWRP. Both CWM and TWRP must be newer versions for CM11 and above.

TWRP has no new version for nook. On CWM I searched a lot. Couldn't find a bootable SD image.
