Hi guys. What's the advantage of TWRP with the CWM and vice versa? Im from sammy phone and im used in CWM. Simple GUI, safe. Im curious about twrp. Is it same as cwm? and ive read some post that they brick D802 because of wrong move in twrp so i felt its not that safe for noobs.
Can you clarify my questions? W/c is really better? Thanks guys.

essentially, they do the same things, CWM is more barebones and terminal-syle, whereas TWRP is more themed and includes a file manger. just a matter of preference really.

Thanks for the fast response. Can you tell me what's the possible "worst case scenario" if i end up messing with my D802? Like in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2492911&highlight=brick.
Im afraid to brick my D802. In my past devices, when u brick phone, you just simply go to download mode (if still possible) then flash stock rom. How about in LG G2? Thanks!

Exactly. To programs that do the same thing. I believe as TWRP came out it had the advantage of touch support where clockwork only had the ability to select the menu items via hardware button. But we're way past that.
I prefer CWM because its cleaner. And on some devices you can even mount the USB storage, which (correct me if im wrong) is not possible with TWRP. Plus you got the Rainbow mode. YAY.

I guess the "if still possible" part could become a problem in both your old device and the g2. I hard bricked a tab2. The only way of fixing it would be jtaging it but that's not worth it for me. I don't see why that shouldn't be possible with the g2 too.

by flashing the .kdz file using flashtool, while the phone is in download mode(tried and tested, have done it twice before:silly
Personally I recommend you use CWM because it's "safer" and more stable, at least with LG G2 as far as I know. I flashed CWM 3 days ago and it worked like a charm!
Haven't had a problem with TWRP 2.3.1.2 yet. Flashing/wiping/backups/restores all work. That plus a file manager, selective reboot and themes etc make it a winner for me IMO.

yes, or you could sideload a .zip from your pc. If these dont work (very unlikely) you could flash back to stock in download mode using flashtool and a .kdz

recovery mode and download mode are independent of each other, and i don't think you screw up download mode (unsure)
I have tried CWM and I found it was very slow to flash new ROM(s), especially when mounting. It takes several minutes or even longer. It used to take only 1-2 minutes when I was using Galaxy S3. Anyone else experience same?

yes, it's the same on TWRP, i think it's something to do with loki (bootloader exploit) or that the ROM zips are about 1.5 GB each, so it takes a while mounting it (unsure)
Does CWM have sideload features or just TWRP? Maybe gonna try TWRP if your answer is "NO". I hope CWM have sideload feature. Hey guys,
Decided i want to flash the franco kernel on my N4 which is currently completely unrooted and stock. So i need to unlock the bootloader, root and install a custom recovery before i can do anything. Just a couple quick questions first.
- When i unlock the bootloader, will i lose absolutely everything? Including photos, videos etc?
If so, does this also mean that my titanium backup file will be deleted too? - Im guessing ill have to move this file onto my PC first to avoid losing my backup.
I did have another question too... hmm maybe ill remember in a bit. But yeah, any clarification with the above would be awesome.
Cheers guys! Im not new to this, ive rooted my N1 and SGS2 in the past but they both had SD's!
Cheers, Jim.

i believe franco kernel is only flashable via fastboot or adb
When you unlock your boot loader it will wipe everything including pictures and videos. As for titanium backup it should restore with your Google account when you set your phone back up again.

Ill worry about flashing franco kernel when i get to it. For now i just want to unlock the bootloader and get root.
When it comes to flashing the franco kernel ill probably just download the franco app from the app store. You can flash using that i believe?

Yes you can flash using the Franco app providing you have a custom recovery
everything in your storage will be deleted. just move everything to your computer before unlocking the bootloader, then move it back after.
Yes everything is wiped.. but you can also back up all your important things anyway onto your pc and just copy them back onto your phone when you have finished.
Awesome. Cheers guys.
Plan on using clockworkmod recovery as ive used this before on all my other devices.
If i have any more problems ill let you know on here.

Now to resist the urge to flash a custom ROM. What do people tend to run these days? I want something that looks as close to stock as possible but improves speed and performance? Cyanogenmod still a good shout?

All of the Roms are pretty good and plenty fast. All of the Roms are fast , but if you like to change your app DPI and also get full screen mode with PIE controls then I suggest paranoid android.
Edit:You don't have to use a custom ROM if you don't want the those features, your kernel will decide how fast your device is. If you want you can stay on stock with Franco kernel and get great battery life and speed.
Hmm ill stick with stock on franco kernel for a while and see how it goes. No doubt ill give in eventually and try something new.
Currently having issues using Clockworkmod Carbon backup/restore app. I used this to backup all my apps/data before iunlocked my bootloader (I would normally use Titanium but that required root).
So i backed everything up. Took the backup file called 'Carbon' from my phone and placed it onto my PC desktop.
Unlocked bootloader, rooted, flashed CWM recovery, rebooted. All good!
Redownloaded the carbon app. Placed the backup folder from my PC onto the phone into the new 'Carbon' folder created when the app launches for the first time. I go to restore my apps and it says 'No backups were found on your internal storage'. Even though i just put them there! Its like the app is no longer looking in the same place to find the backup folder.
Its not my apps im annoyed about so much, but mostly my user data and sms messages and stuff.
Anyone have a fix for this?
Cheers

I have one idea of my own.. the device id has probably changed. TitaniumBackup usually fixes this on my N4 if I reinstall but i didn't have this on my N7 as it was not rooted.
Could that be it? If so, how can it be changed .. (and how do you know what it was)?
Hello there, Not sure where to post and most rules here state to post in the general forum, so here I am
I currently have the following:
Model Number: GT-I9505 Samsung Galaxy S4 (GSM)
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9505XXUAMDM
Kernel: 3.40-526204
Build: JDQ39.I9505XXUAMDM
The device is now rooted thanks to the following guide: http://androidjinn.com/root-xxuamdm-android-4-2-2-on-galaxy-s4-i9505-official-firmware.html/2
Rooted using Odin and the CF-Autoroot or so that guide says.
Now down to what I need help with, I want to play with a few different roms however before I do anything, I want to backup my phones current Rom on the off chance I mess it up I presume this would prevent a majority of bricks?
What advice can you give? Just wanna make sure I have a safe point before I do any more to the device.
YES I DID SEARCH, It didn't help so if you're a stuck up arsehole who wants to moan that I haven't searched, Please don't post.

You need to install a custom recovery. Search for recovery and your model number.

Thankyou for your reply, Can you reccomend a specific one based on expirence? My friends uses clockwork on his S2 with Cyanogen, I ideally want to head towards that as there is a version for the S4 as far as I'm aware but not the foggiest on where to start. Will look up Clockwork for my model number now tho, thanks.
Kind Regards,

I use Philz Touch (search on here) then go to the backup and restore settings and choose what you want from there. Whatever you do, backup to the external SDcard and if possible Copy the backup to an external source. Just in case. .......

So I went ahead and ****ed my device up
I can still boot into CWM and have attempted to use my recovery I made however this just makes the phone get to the boot logo and then freezes.
If I do a factory reset and wipe cache etc the phone just show the battery charging logo, gonna leave it on charge over night and see if it was maybe a battery issues.
Either way can anyone give me any idea on how I can get my phone back into working order
Thanks

Is that guide appplicable to me?
Also should I do the entier process, or attempt this method first for the boot loop I seem to have gotten myself stuck in:
Bootloop troubleshooting: Bootloop occurs when a smartphone is not able to boot properly and stuck on Bootanimation and mainly caused by system files interfering with each others which cause instability and/or crash at the boot sequence. How to fix:
- Boot the device either into stock or custom recovery mode, wipe cache then reboot, if still, boot again in recovery and wipe data/factory reset then reboot. If not:
- Restore a nandroid backup with custom recovery if present. If not:
- Flash or reflash the official stock firmware. If not:
- Flash stock firmware with the appropriate pit file, after "pass", unplug usb cable, pull battery out for a minute, insert it, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, reboot.
Thanks
Also does any know where I can the offical firmware for my model?

I'v decided to follow the guide for restoring the phone to standard! I have followed the steps listed on the tutorial, however when I get to step I can't find home.tar all that is inside the zip file is this:
I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_I9505XXUAMDM_HOME.tar.md5
SS_DL.DLL
Do I just select the I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_I9505XXUAMDM_HOME.tar.md5 in odin under the PDA button?
Just want to double check incase I cause any damage to the phone!
Thanks guys
Correct.
Thankyou for the reply, I shall flash this bad boy when I get home!
Once she has been flashed to basics should I then use the CF auto root followed by installing philz recovery?
Or will CWM still be on the device?
Sorry for the noobish questions, Years of rocking IOS have not tought me well.
You'll lose CWM. I went the CFRoot--->>>PhilZ route when I got my I9505 a couple of weeks ago, there are other options here, so it's up to you how you proceed.
Hi all... I have an at&t d800 that was running stock, rooted, and using Xposed. I was at work when I noticed that it was on the recovery TWRP screen. Weird I thought as I didn't restart it. I was having no issues with it prior. When I tried to reboot to system, it went right back to bootscreen. So I did a complete wipe and tried a system restore to a nandroid stock backup. reboot continues to go to the TWRP home screen... anyone have suggestions? I have a feeling its going to take a factory restore of some sort, but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions beforehand. I can turn it off and on, but cannot get past the recovery home screen.
Thanks...

That's exactly what it is for me. Only they did the download while I was working. Bastards. I'm currently downloading the zip file from that link where we do the firmware reload and uproot and go back to stock... the host site is brutal... downloading at 115 kb/sec... once this is down I'll just stay unroot and get the update and move on for a bit. I can't get into download mode either.... This is surreal - Never had this issue before.. Am I without a phone right now? I can't do a damn thing here...
This seems malicious
I knew not to run the OTA - I chose to postpone or ignore the notice from AT&T -- it looks like they pushed it through without my OK and ended up bricking my phone.... can anyone verify a workaround to get into download mode??
I really hope there's a workaround here.... I can't belive that I would be the only one this happened to because I made no selection to run the OTA -- it pushed itself through without my authorization, so I gotta imagine it did the same to a lot of other people here.... Hoping for a response by morning.. Thanks!

Are you rooted?
Are you on a custom recovery. If so, twrp or cwm?

This has happened to me also. With my s4 .att pushed update in middle of night and it messed my phone up. Anyhow after two days or so of arguing with att they agreed on a eairly upgrade replacement and I got brand new lg g2 instead of a refurbished s4 .so now I am learning about this phone and I just took the new update. EDIT: Also, what is the Software version for said update?
EDIT2: Nevermind, found that it's D80010o.. i'm still D80010d.
EDIT3: For those stuck in the bootloop, have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
Apparently the bastards will only allow you to decline downloading it up to 3 times at 4 hours per decline, then it 'automagically' downloads and installs itself.
I saw that info on the AT&T website for the LG G2 update, they are such asses.
I used Titanium Backup to search for 'update' and then froze that. That is the easiest way to fix it for now, but, will cost you some money to buy titanium backup. Other apps can probably freeze stuff too tho.
There are other apps/processes running in the background, but, the one I froze was the update after I d/l'd it to my phone, but, chose not to run it. Later on I will disable the rest of the BS on this phone so it won't be AT&T'ified.
There is a 'Cleantool' somebody here on XDA wrote that can run via ADB and remove all the AT&T crap, but, I wanted to make a nandroid backup of the configured initial setup before I start carving the turkey so to speak.

I'm not sure if that will work or not, my knowledge of Linux and the phones is too limited to say. It was however originally intended for Verizon phones as I'm sure you realize.
Just wanted to point that out so that nobody tries it and potentially messes up their D800 to a state that can't be fixed later on when hopefully some kind soul cleans up after AT&T flaming bag of dog poop they just left on our doorstep.
Hey guys, I screwed up bad. Im trading my G2 for an M8 tomorow, So I reverted back to my 'stock' restore on TWRP. Not really thinking about it I tried to update to 4.4 directly from the update centre. Now im stuck in a boot loop going into TWRP and it wont let me into the firmware. Can I still follow the thread that tells you how to go back to stock? Im in panic mode right now so im sorry if this has been asked before. Im just writing this so I can maybe get responses while I try and fix it myself.
thanks,
Brandon
EDIT: this back to stock thread is very intimidating. If someone could tell me an easier way (if there is one of course) to get back to stock it'd be appreciated.

100% wiped as in you wiped the internal storage as well.
Try to adb sideload a rom to atleast get it to boot something? You'll still have to go back to stock tho..
And if someone sends you a stock rom, that won't help you I wouldn't think. You'd still have twrp if you were to flash that. I'm assuming you want it back to 100% stock, right?

No i dont mind having TWRP. I just want 4.4 'stock' D803 rom. As in all the features of 4.4. He knows it is rooted, thats no problem
EDIT: I booted into download mode and rebooted from there. It now goes back into the stock image I had flashed. 4.2.2 LG Skin. he wants 4.4 though is the main issue.
EDIT 2: http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/dn/downlo...803R20D_00.kdz can I just flash that into recovery?

Well, it's too bad the return to stock scares you. I'm not too sure how it works for your variant, but it was pretty straight forward to do on my D800. If you could return it to stock, then update, you could use towelroot to re-root (takes like 10 secs).
Aside from all that, i'm not too sure what else you could do really.

CSE will wipe all for clean flash . Thats the way to go. OI have used Cloudyfa stock for D801 T mobile but it did not have WiFi calling so flashed D80120A_00.kdz , over cloudyfa 2.2 stock .You will have to root it . use towelroot apk and let it rain, then autorec for the recover. Good Luck

Hello, it seems as if my internal storage has unmounted/is missing the last thing I think I was doing before I encountered this problem was either installing a custom boot animation, or spoofing my devices model & Mac address. I tried restoring default Mac and other device information, and even running some commands in terminal emulator and nothing worked. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just another piece of evidence that changing boot animation is a bad idea ?

You can solve most problems by simply flashing stock rom. You should probably get twrp installed on your sm-t350 to get nandroid backups.

Back up of your device. When in doubt you flash in twrp. You can back all data. You can Google for more info. It's pretty simple too

So I made my nandroid backup, and after the backup was complete I tried to reboot to my device and it went straight back to recovery. I tried restoring the backup i just made but then upon trying to reboot, it said "No OS installed, are you sure you want to reboot?", I clicked yes, and instead of it going into a boot loop or booting to my device it went straight back into recovery. I used the TWRP file manager and all my files and my SD card is still present so no operating system clearly isnt true. got any suggestions?
Also i dont have access to my computer for the next couple of hours

Your files are not on the same partition as the OS. If twrp says you don't have an OS then you've wiped it. It will boot to recovery if you have no OS.
Install the stock firmware with odin.
