So I'm having some issues charging my tablet. I plugged it in to the charger last night and I noticed this morning that it actually had less battery than last night. So I ran some "tests" and this is what I have concluded. The part of the charger that I actually plug in to the wall doesn't work for some reason. I get no indication from the dock, the battery icon, or the battery widget that I have up. Other plugs seem to work but they don't actually charge the tablet. As in, the battery indicator in the status bar shows a charging icon but the widget still shows that it's not actually charging and its still losing battery. Plugging the charger directly into the tablet instead of my dock does nothing.
If if I have to get to get my tablet sent in, should I just sell my dock and get a Nexus 7? The touchscreen to my tablet doesn't work anyways.

You may have tripped the heat sensor inside the wall wart. Put the wall charger in a plastic sandwich bag, push the air out and seal the bag. Put the bag and wall charger in the freezer for about 30 to 45 min. Remove and leave in plastic bag until charger is back to room temp. Now try it. If you have tripped the heat sensor this action will reset it. There are several threads that discuss this. The wall chargers for the TF101 are heat sensitive.
Hope this helps.

I have tried other wall chargers and they didn't work either so I think the problem is in the tablet, not the charger.

When you plug the tablet into your computer what does the tablet say it is doing? It would take forever to charge but it might show it is charging.
Remember the 101 can charge off of 5volts or 11-15volts. It is the time it takes to recharge that makes a big difference.

Alright, so yesterday, I went to Five Below to buy another charger with a longer cable than the official charger, since it's so short.
The battery was nearly dead (about 10%). I had plugged it in, turned it off, and went to bed. I woke up and checked it, the battery was only about 3/4 full (about 65 - 75%). This confused me a bit, so I checked the specifications on both chargers.
The official charger puts out 2 amps. The 3rd party charger puts out 1000 milliamps (1 amp). The official charger puts out 5.0 volts, the 3rd party puts out 5.5.
My dad said that's why it was taking so long to charge and that it will not damage the tablet, but will do significant damage to the 3rd party charger/transformer.
But did/would it do any damage to the tablet? I'm kind of paranoid about everything, as this thing is brand new. It has an uneven screen, and I'm paranoid that the tight case I'm using with it (which only latches on one side) is making it worse, even though it probably isn't. That's not the point though.
The chip that controls the charging is here http://www.summitmicro.com/prod_select/summary/SMB347/SMB347.htm. You are not going to damage anything throwing 5.5V/1A at it.

Ah, alright. Thanks for that link.
Your dad is right (always believe your dad, dads are always right). The device draws power from the charger, the charger does not force power into the device, so it's possible to damage the charger by drawing too much power from it making it overheat, but you are not going to do any harm to the N7. A 1A charger should charge the N7 but not as fast, it's probable that the one you bought is not really 1A, especially if it's a no-name Chinese thing.
You can just buy a longer usb cable for your Asus charger though.
Anyone tried wireless charging on DT2 or MXF ? And how was the experience ?
Works, nothing special - overnight charge from 1% to 100%
It works, but many of us have problems with the Qi charger disconnecting charge at 100% and then reconnecting after about 5% has drained. Motorola is looking into it. I may be picky on which Qi charger you use.
Maybe I did not notice this problem - as I put the phone on charge in the evening, until the next morning I take it to work.
I use cheap qi charger from ebay - ~$2.5
Use a ravpower qi charger every night, no issues, phone comes off 100% full, cool to the touch. I know some units I've tried with my Maxx back in the day kept it warm through charging.

Hm, I haven't had this issue yet. I use a cheap generic three coil Qi charger. Is the issue just Qi or PMA chargers too? Because I was looking at buying another but this issue would be a little annoying to me.

Exactly how it should work to prolong battery life. Keeping any battery (especially lithium) full charger for long period of time will significantly decrease its capacity.

Never had a problem with that in the past even with wired chargers. I don't think in recent phones that there is actual current on the battery at all times past 100% whether charging wirelessly or wired. I'm pretty sure it goes into a maintenance mode, but it will still show charging on the display which is the important part. That is important if you use it on your nightstand as an alarm clock with wireless charging. My Sony Z3v had no problems staying in a charge state even after 100% but my Turbo 2 does not which causes it to disconnect. It will reconnect after it loses about 5%. If I don't have it silenced, it will wake me up when it reconnects. It also affects any tasks you have programmed to happen when it is charging.
From my understanding, the first Turbo did not have this problem. I think it cropped up from the inclusion of the powermat charging or maybe something related to the 810 processor. Anyway, just waiting for a definitive answer from Moto.

Read the thread at the Moto Support Forums. https://forums.motorola.com/posts/215aa2bb51
It doesn't seem to affect everyone which may mean it is more dependent on your charger.

Have any Qi charger brand to propose ?
I'm using a Samsung Qi puck - not the newer round plastic one, but the older more squared soft-touch one. Works great, I don't have the 100% disconnect issue.
I use the tylt qi charger the desk top one so my phone is sitting at a 60 degree angle. It works great no issues and every morning my phone is at 100% and cool to the touch
This all sounds encouraging. I think it would be helpful if people could also add a few common notes:
charger / model
any case they have on the phone (or not) when using a Qi charger
whether the phone must be in a certain orientation (e.g., horizontal vs vertical) to charge
whether the phone is at 100% - and stays there after a charge
whether the phone is cool / warm / hot once charged
A cleaned up list developed from this would be a good resource for the user community
Tylt works great phone gets warm. Itian charger is cheap from Amazon but is very finicky.

Uhm, that's one of the sillier things I've read today.
If it drains to 5% it's not terribly useful as a charge system regardless.
A charge controller chip is supposed to be designed to PREVENT the problem you just described.
Each charge cycle, regardless of it's form shortens the life of the battery, period. If you charge it up and then let it deplete it like that, you're damaging it as much as if you left it charging.
You kind of need to leave the stupid thing plugged in or in some wireless charge hysteresis loop so that the device isn't drained. In light of the charge system being supposed to keep the battery out of the loop until it needs to charge it again (some threshold below 100%) it shouldn't MATTER if it's "plugged in" and the device won't be pulling from the battery.

I picked up 3 Samsung qi chargers at 6 quid each on offer on Amazon (UK). They work very well although they are more a convenience thing rather than a method of charging. I use one at work. One in the bedroom and one next to the Xbox great for the work desk to keep the device topped up and frees you up from plugging and unplugging constantly BUT.... It takes absolutely ages to charge so you dont go expecting to be dumping your cabled chargers. I use the work one most of the time as I'm out and about a lot and its very useful to be able to just grab the phone without unplugging and placing back on the pad when at the desk. The turbo charger gets used at home more coz in more likely to plug in to that and jump in the shower knowing that I'll have a nice reserve of power for the pub so yes they work as advertised and work well great as a trickle charge device when you ain't in a rush. If anyone is interested ping me and I'll spend some time on giving more detailed stats such as charge times from 0% and model number of the devices I use. Away for work at the mo so probably the weekend

Raynic
I bought the Raynic Orchard I. It charges the phone just fine, but I noticed that if the phone wants to wake up because it senses movement, it detaches and reattaches to the charter, which gets very annoying. I moved the phone to an angle where it couldn't see me (but I could see it; sensors were under my monitor stand but the rest of the phone was sticking out) and everything went smoothly after that.
Verizon QI charge stand, Verizon case, have to charge upside down
To charge our new Turbo Droid 2 in a Verizon QI stand with the Verizon case on it, the phone must be upside down. It's OK if out of the case. We have a car QI 'base' which it won't charge in either; probably exact same issue, whatever that is. Any ideas appreciated!

First thread.. not here to start any issues..
Well quick question, how many chargers do you guys use/own? Since it's Dash charge and we are unable to use any other bricks due to the Dash Charging capabilities how many should a OP user have to be fully effecient.
For me.. i will have three when my new shipment comes in from OP. Used the 5$ they gave me for the delay and took off shipping (paid 29$) for an extra charger. I also bought a 3t charger on Offer Up for 5$ lol. and the stock charger.
I just dont want to be left with a dead phone when i can easily find a socket and plug it in for 15 min for a nice boost.. :good::good:
I bought an additional one to make the total of 2. One will permanently be in my bedroom where I plug it in overnight, and the other will be downstairs in my den/office where I spend most my time whenever I'm at home, during the day.
I'll also just be using that second charger as a to-go charger if I ever need to take it with me, so 2 total chargers seem like the perfect amount! I don't want to spend any more money on a third charger anyway lol
I'm in the same boat. Just couldn't believe someone was selling their dash charger for 5$ on offer up.. had to pick it up. Messed up part about it, the night before I spent 30 on a new charger.
I've bought some micro usb to usb C adaptors so I can still utilise all my old cables. I don't always need to dash charge.
I saw the video on how fast it charged with the dash car charger where it was pitted up against the S8 with both running Google Maps. OP5 went from 2% to 43% in 30 min and S8 went from 2% to 12%in the same time. When I saw that I changed my from an extra brick to the car charger (which came with a cable of it's own). This way in the car for 20-30 min will be fine when I'm out and about. If I'm not going to be with my car I'll just grab the brick.
With that said, I'm getting like up to 9.5 hours on a charge (averaging 8.5 hours SOT) so once its charged, is there really a need most days to worry about charging it mid day?

Says who?
You can recharge the OP5 using any 5V charger. The limitation is that it will take longer to recharge the battery. But that shouldn't be an issue if you recharge overnight.
Also because the battery lasts so long on a charge you don't need to do a full recharge in order to get a day's worth of charge. Indeed slower recharging and less than full recharging should also help to extend the useful life of the battery.
So for all of these reasons I intend to use only the single Dash charger that came with my OP5 plus all the other "regular" chargers I've accumulated over the years. I've already bought USB and microUSB to USB-C adapters to use with my charger collection.
P.S. The OP5 indicates what type of charger it detects:
5V 0.5A as found on PC USB ports shows "Charging slowly."
5V 1.8A as found on a typical smartphone charger shows, "Charging."
Dash charger shows, "Dash Charging."
I've bought 4 dash chargers. 1 at my desk in my house, 1 at my bed, 1 in my office at my work and one in my travel bag. An there is also always a fully charged 10.000mah powerbank in there... I did the same with my handicapped Galaxy S6 haha. But Now I figure out my OnePlus 5 goes on and on and on... without breaking a sweat hahahaha.
I've got 3 of them... One at home, one at work, one in my bag.
Stupid question, cuz I haven't tried yet and I'm wondering... if you can use the charger to charge other devices? I know, it won't charge them faster or blah blah but do you think I can use it to charge my MP3 player or some other phone? Or is it purely proprietary and has something more than the other chargers?
Unfortunately the QC 2.0 and 3.0 blocks I have, like 11 of them are super slow, as noted previously. I only have the one that came with the phone for my house and I got a car charger discounted with the phone. I might end up getting a third for work, not sure. Is there ANY knockoff 3rd party charger than can charge similar to dash charge?
I have one dash charger, the one that came with the phone. I have a bunch of non-dash charger/cable because the previous phone supported QC 3.0. I know this phone does not support QC, but it charges up the phone pretty quick. Not as quick as the dash but quick enough for me. Unless if you are on the phone every minute like playing games or watching a movie, you should be able to get a full day's worth on a single charge.
I have one dash charger which came with phone plus car dash charger. If you are not in hurry and charging it overnight why would it matter dash or regular charger to use?
Phone has so good battery life you don't need to put extra chargers anywhere you go...
But it's personal decision.
PS: usually, if you are charging lipo battery slowly, it goes easy on it and may prolong life of the battery.
As far as dash chargers, I only have the one that came with the phone, which I barely use. I mostly charge my phone directly from a usb C port on my computer when I'm working from home. At night I use an iOrange-E cable that I connect directly to my usb-A/usb-C wall outlet to top it off and unplug it right before going to sleep. Since I'm not a heavy user, a single charge pretty much does it for me and I haven't had the need to use Dash charging to top off my phone.
I don't understand having a bunch of these chargers. Unless you work or live tin can, you should not struggle to get a days worth of battery.
The only extra charger someone should need would be the car. Plug your dash charger in your living room / den, plug a standard usb c charger in your bedroom, and a dash charger in your car.
I can't imagine this setup not working for 90% or more of users.
It's weird, I have 3, I keep one in my laptop bag, I have the dash car charger, and another wall plug I keep in my room. I have maybe used the one I keep in my laptop bag twice. I mostly use the one in my car at the start or end of the day as I commute about 45 minutes to work everyday. Battery on this phone has been better than my oneplus 3 by a noticeable margin.
I only have one dash charger. Just a regular USB-C for typical charging - why would you need it for overnight charges?
The dash charger definitely came in handy today though, since I visited a theme park all day (but came prepared of course).
Battery on this phone has been great. I also went to a water park yesterday, phone was on 15% when I got home.. plugged it in to the dash charger and 40 min later I was in the 90s. Don't know what they did for it to charge that fast, but I'm one happy OP customer.
Got a new H918, however when I use the fast charger it was supplied with the phone only charges for a short amount of time (5-10 minutes) then stops. After that, it slowly begins discharging all the while the charging icon on the battery symbol is displayed.
I had it plugged in overnight, checked cables... even bought a brand new genuine charger and cable and that made no difference either.
However when I use my four year old charger for the LG G Pad (still 1.8A but only 5V, no 9V support) it slowly charges to 100% as normal.
Tried a couple of other chargers, they all charge the battery slowly up to 100% as you'd expect. Fast chargers (Samsung or LG) on the other hand stop after 5-10 minutes as I said above.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'd like to be sure if it's the battery, the phone's hardware or its software.
I find it strange how the battery is fine when plugged into an old charger, but won't work with fast chargers at all.
Have you had the very same experience, or was your battery dead irrespective of the charging unit?

Mine would show charged, then pop up a msg saying invalid battery and shut down the phone. Battery suggestion was the easiest and least expensive option to troubleshoot your problem. Of course if the phone is under warranty I'd send it in.

I'd like to report back, in case someone else happens to stumble upon the very same problem.
Got a new genuine battery off ebay and replaced the one I got with the phone. It worked straight away - managed to (fast) charge it using the original charger from 0% all the way up to max.
What a relief! Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction @cnjax.
