Hi guys!
Would you like to watch Youtube, films, TV, on your Nexus 7 while browsing the internet or writing messages on Facebook?
This easy guide will show you how you can multitask with any app on your tablet, and as many windows as you like. Windows can be moved around and resized.
I've made some videos to show you what can be done on the Nexus 7! Here are the links:
New Video (28/01/2014)! Landscape Mode using Xblast Tools Appbar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6hmxMoPdyM&feature=youtu.be
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGy9OnSv0ao&feature=youtu.be
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwvuRpJugaQ&feature=youtu.be
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GFS_39Rhro
So now, how can you do this?
You will need:
- Xposed Installer from here.
- Xhalo Floating Window from here.
- Portal (Floating Apps) [BETA] from here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paranoid.halo&hl=en_GB
or Halo))) or XBlast Appbar or Bubble Launcher etc.
That's it!
How to set it all up:
1. Install Xposed Installer
- Download Xposed Installer
- Install Xposed Installer
- Go to Framework
- Click on Install/Update
- Reboot
2. Install Xhalo Floating Window
- Download Xhalo Floating Window
- Install Xhalo Floating Window
- Enable XHalo Floating Window in Xposed Installer (go to Modules and click on Xhalo Floating Window)
- Reboot
3. Install Portal (Floating Apps) [BETA]
or Halo))) or XBlast Appbar or Bubble Launcher etc.
That's it!
How to use:
1. Long press on the Portal halo.
2. When the pie appears, long press and add the apps you want to use in multiwindows
Once this is all set up, all you have to do is long press on the Portal halo and select the apps you want to use in multiwindows.
Happy multitasking!
Wow no body else tried this yet or comments? This is what I always wanted.
working kinda
ok i can confirm everything does work but it doesnt work perfectly... everytime i tap the halo it opens a window but also takes me to settings too... ive tried a few things and while it does open windows.. its just a shame it always takes me out of what i am doing and takes me to main settings window too
update after some trial and error i can get it working nicely... it works with most things but didnt work for me with bsplayer, but did work well nice with cool reader and chrome

Hi, are you sure you are long pressing on the halo? If you do that, it works perfectly, like on the video.

Hey there! I've made another short video now that I am a bit more experienced at using multiple windows on the Nexus 7! Hope you like it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwvuRpJugaQ&feature=youtu.be
I can't wait for this to be a bit more stable.
This portal thingy is really, really ugly. Sorry guys. If I want Windows 95, then...
And I don't want this circle thingy floating around all the time.
Isn't there another, less obtrusive and better looking way to call and manage XHalo windows?
Thanks for this. I am currently just using the Viral app to watch youtube in a pop out window while multi-tasking. I love the xposed mods but since some of them are hit or miss they dont always seem to work for me.
I followed the guide but the windows is not movable for me. Am I doing something wrong?

So, has this worked for anybody other than me?

Is it possible to restore/unmaximize a regular full-screen app, and maximise a windowed app? Also, there really needs to be some kind of window chrome!

I had the same issue and I eventually uninstalled the whole thing. It has awesome potential, but very limited usability right now and less option (Unless i totally didn't get how to get it to work to its full potential). Hopefully there would be updates to it to make it more easy to work with. A good option would be to have support for Layouts and workspaces (predefined list of apps loaded in set quadrants of the layout) all by loading a profile. That will really be a killer.
Unfortunately, Xposed does not work with 4.4 yet, so this guide will not work on Kit Kat. Hopefully soon!
PS: Thanks guys for "liking" my videos and subscribing. Very touched!
Updated OP for Kit Kat. New Video!

Yo Guys.
This is a tutorial through which YOU can have the Glass UI on ANY ANDROID DEVICE. This is the proper UI that you would find on Glass. Basically we are going to download and install some MODIFIED Glass so that we could use it on an Android phone. I haven't modified the apps. I am just telling you how to use them.
Now first of all the things you need -
Android device which run 4.0 or higher. However 4.1 higher is recommended as that has the updated voice controls.
A Bluetooth keyboard. This would be used to navigate. The touchscreen doesn't work in the UI.
So let's do this -
1 - Get the Stuff.
Go to https://github.com/zhuowei/Xenologer as click on "ZIP" which is besides "CLONE TO WINDOWS". This would give you the modded apps. You can read the dev's readme to see what he has modified. Then go to http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...em-dumps-please-do-something-cool-with-these/ and download the system dump. From here, using WinRAR/7ZIP got to the system/app and extract all the files which have the suffix "Glass" to them. Refer the diagram below.
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2 - Installing.
Copy all the apps that we downloaded and put them on your phone. Then install the apps. The first app that you would install SHOULD BE GLASS-HOME!!!! For the rest, the order doesn't matter.
3 - Finale.
After installing all apps, hit home and choose - Glass-settings and choose "just once". If you choose "always" then you would be screwed. Now you using the keyboard control the glass ui. -
ARROW KEY = SWIPE RIGHT/LEFT
ENTER = TAP
ESC = GO HOME.
If at any time you want to turn back, simply press the home button, choose your launcher and you are done. For more info watch the dev's video :
Thanks for posting this tutorial, however I would remove that file list from Ron's dump as most of that stuff will break it.
DO NOT INSTALL frameworkstubs.apk glasshome.apk glasssetup.apk glasscamera.apk or glasssystemui.apk everything else is fine to bring over from the dump file but those listed ones must not be installed from the dump.
I recommend watching my video so you do it correctly, and if you want to help or have some ideas as to why things are not working let me know.
Well the video doesn't seem to be working atm.

This is extremely cool. Installed it on my Nexus 4. It keeps telling me there is something wrong with my network connection. Will try to test all of the functions soon . Talking to it works fine!
I forgot to add my wifi network and of course can't capture the QR, so I can't search Google, yet the timeline updates go through :silly:. But it works great on my phone anyway.
I'm making a new tutorial video tonight that highlights some new features and some bug fixes!

No facial recognition on glass - Could have been a great feature
I wrote a little app which acts like an invisible keyboard that allows to navigate through glass using the volume buttons and simulate the enter key using the menu button or a long press on back, instead of having to use an external keyboard.
The app is open source, you can grab the code on my github : http://github.com/Androguide/GLASSInput
The apk's direct link : https://github.com/Androguide/GLASSInput/blob/master/GlassInput.apk?raw=true
Thx for video :good:

This is stock CM10 Mms with sliding conversation UI (Hangouts style). I made this because I like the interface of Hangouts but don't like the SMS integration. So, I prefer to have a dedicated SMS app and this is what came about.
Features:
Sliding conversation UI (hangouts style)
Pop-up reply (CM)
Quick reply from notification (CM)
Mark read from notification (CM)
Display who most recent message in conversation list is from
Breathing notification icon (enable in settings)
Contact picture widget regular, small, or gone
This is a work in progress so feel free to report any issues. That said, I've been working on this for a while and everything should run smoothly
Download from play store here (easier for me to detect/fix crashes, but slower updates) or attachment below.
To install:
Copy to device and install normally.
OR
Code:
adb install SlidingMms.apk

no that is not considered normal. AFAIK it's a bug in the cm messaging app dealing with MMS wake locks. I have an idea how to solve it but it could take a few days. and I can't replicate it which makes testing very difficult. The solution for now is force closing the app.
EDIT: happy to say I pinpointed the source of the battery drain issue and am working on fixing it
Thanks @matt_stang. I too noticed it being top of battery drain list even though wake lock detector and battery setting said it wasn't keeping device awake long. It is my favorite replacement SMS app I have tries so far. Cheers.

Any chance of adding a secure box? I like to keep some people's text messages separate from the rest of my messages. I had to switch to Handcent because it has a secure box, but I really miss the CM customizations, like reply/mark read from notification.

sweet, downloading now to see it
EDIT: Not really diggin in.. Too much color for me on the "sent" side.. and the 'block' bubble messages is too much as well lol.. Sorry, im VERY minimal.. To give you an idea of how much minimal i am, I use the stock mms app, and then download the Black Infinitum Theme, and that themes the messaging app PERFECT for my taste -- But anywho, to each his own! The idea behind this app is flawless tho! awesome job on it!
Oh my. Archiving messages would be perfect, since I loved it in Hangouts!
Would it be possible to add a speech bubble theme, as well as being able to hide avatars in message threads? Another mms.apk has it, which is perfect, but that one lacks archive function + hamburger menu, something I really wanted.
There is an option to hide avatars both in the main menu and in the thread itself. It's like the first options in settings. I don't mean to be rude, but did you even look before you posted? I use it like that. No avatars to be seen in the app at all.....
Hello everyone, I'm the dev for Javelin Browser. Javelin was launched less than 2 months back. And now, I am putting extra effort in making it work perfect on the Nexus 5. I think, Javelin browser is the best browser for Nexus 5 over Chrome or any other browsers, for the following 3 reasons. A - MULTI-TASK truly with Javelin Stack. AKA Link-Bubble functionality. Javelin Stack allows you to Open links in other apps and view in without switching back and forth to the full browser. B - BLOCK annoying ads Native ad-block means faster load speeds, use less data. C - KITKAT TRANSPARENCY Javelin is the ONLY browser that makes full use of KitKat's transparent status and navigation bars so you can view the entire website on your screen. Other Javelin features:
[*]1-touch navigation gestures
[*]Built-in VPN
[*]Uses AOSP WebView
[*]Reading mode

Great app, love the color schemes and transparency of nav bar.
Has anybody been able to import bookmarks from your other browser(s) into javelin?
I really don't feel like creating them all over again
Mr Javelin, (lol)
@javelinbrowser
My only annoyance with the browser is when backing up or pressing x on the open tab, please make it go back to the home page rather than this black screen only to have to make it load the home screen again because there's nothing else you can do from there
I've just noticed a fairly big issue for me: If I select "request desktop versions" of websites in the settings (by the way, please remove "update" from "update settings") my wireless provider instantly claims I am using my phone as a hotspot and disabled my data connection... is there an alternative desktop mode method that does not make my provider thing I'm tethering?
edit: didn't mean to quote there
edit 2: requesting desktop mode on a site-by-site basis (rather than blanket through settings) it still does it. Doing the same thing through Chrome for Android, however, loads the desktop version as normal without triggering the tether warning.
Suggests to me that the user agent string being used by Javelin for requesting desktop sites is different to that which Chrome uses... could this please be fixed to use the same as the Chrome for Android desktop mode?

Welcome to the Xposed Setup Discussion!
Hello Guys, I have started this thread so that we all can share our Xposed setup.
Here are some simple rules to be followed:
(1) Name the xposed modules you use in any order separated by comma(","). Optional: You may also mention specefic settings for individual modules.
(2) Mention the ROM you are using so that other users can get an idea about the compatability of xposed modules.
(3) Conclude something about your setup like hows the performance with your modules enabled or how the modules you use make your device more useful. You may also attach screenshots to show off the changes brought by modules.
Thats it! No other rules to be followed!
Some useful Links:
Xposed Installer
Xposed Modules Repo
Here is my Setup with Xposed:
Modules - Show Keypad, Youtube Adaway.
ROM - Mahdi 2.7 07/19 Build
Conclusion - Just necessary modules that I use to get rid of the the ads in Youtube and to get the Dialpad popup automatically whenever I open Phone app.:highfive:
Gravity Box
Tinted Status Bar
Here's my set up, Mahdi rom 19/7
SwipeBack (disabled nav bar and using swipe up from bottom as a back gesture, its totally changed the android experience.)
CPUTemp in status bar, this lets me know if some apps are acting up, really handy to have a quick at-a-glance look at my cpu, if the temp is above 50-55 that means something intense is happening, 60+ something really intense such as a 3d game. 40-50 normal temp. It should be below 40 when I'm about to sleep and have it on airplane mode playing a podcast
StatusbarVolume - makes the volume panel a thin bar on the top, non obtrusive when I'm toggling it whilst doing something on the screen, this is just fantastic.
All Notifications Expanded - just my laziness
Complete Action Plus - changes the entire look/feel of the "Open With" pop up, totally customisable and really unmissable once you have it!
Burnt Toast- - shows the app icon in every toast, really cool and neat thing that's hard to miss once you have it
PlayPermissionsExposed - shows all permissions in the new version of play store
ReceiverStop and Wakelock Terminator - both these were used to stop the nlpwakelock problem, I don't remember the specifics but this helps get the phone into deepsleep
StatusbarScrollToTop - really neat feature, don't remember it being in a custom rom
TintedStatusBar - L style before L was a thing, this is what really MAKES the user interface pop
Enable BatteryStats Permission - kitkat disabled batterystats for 3rd party apps like Battery monitor, this re-enables them.
iOS7 X - changes signal/wifi positions similar to ios but keeps the notification icons. I use version 1.02 because it's stable and does what I need it to, along with clock in center.
XDictionary - app that searches for the definition of any word selection, real handy tool
SuggestionsToggle - this is relatively new but makes life easier when trying to enter urls without swiftkey trying to screw them up with spaces!
I'm Not using the usual favourite Gravitybox because most of those features are there in mahdi rom.
Overall, After a long struggle with the galaxy nexus, I can finally say I'm Happy using a smartphone every day!

here you will find the Download for the new Image from Android O DP1.
Have fun
It is actually a lot more stable than I would have imagined. Glad I flashed it. Only issue I see so far is now I have an ongoing notification for the Beta Program download.
Dedicated theme section in the display settings. Promising!
I'm really enjoying it so far. Will report shortly if anything breaks. Main thing I'm looking for is enhanced battery life with the new backgrounding method.
- Dedicated theme section -- Inverted theme
- Resizable navigation bar -- Ability to add extra functions to left and right of soft keys
- Settings options are all in different order now (took me a few seconds to re-orient myself. LOL)
- Struggling with TWRP with 'fastboot boot twrp.img': It goes to black screen, then does an ramdump.

My Beta Program notification went away after I turned on system UI tuner, and disabled it.

What extra functions are able to be added to the left and right of soft keys? Are they pre-defined or can you add anything?

Not sure what can be added. Probably pretty standard approach.
Can't wait to flash and try this, when I get out of work, briefly saw something about TWRP? Will try root and TWRP later, just because lol.
Does google assistance work ?.
Gonna flash when i get home .
I tried the preview for like 6 hours, and I was happy with it till I discovered that Play Games doesn't works on O.
Thats a killer for me, because I use my device mostly for games and social, and I cant log to my games without Play Games.
:'(
