(Q) Galaxy Y Bootlooping - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi bro my friend had a problem with his galaxy y.
His sgy bootlooped after he installed a custom rom on it. Then he asked me to fix it. I tried many solution but no one works for his sgy.
1. Wipe data, wipe cache, fix permission etc. via untemporary cwm (v.5xx) and then reflash it. No effect, still bootlooping.
2. Flash custom rom via android stock recovery (someone said untemporary cwm is not for flashing rom so he recommen to flash it via stock rom) no effect, still bootlooping.
3. Flash via odin. No detected even usb driver installed. Tried on windows 7 ultimate & windows 8 pro. Still bootlooping (He don't think his usb debugging is on)
4. Flash flashable zip stock rom via cwm/android stock recovery. I haven't tried this one.
Any suggestion? Thanks!

1 - what rom are you trying - cm roms require percys kernel and stock based roms require a stock based kernel
2 - did you mount system data cache after you wipe system data and cache before flashing a rom? (main cause of people not flashing a rom properly)
3 - did you install samsung drivers only and not have kies installed/running to use odin
you can flash a rom via any cwm tempory or perminant as long as the cwm is suitable for galaxy y - you format system data and cache and you mount system data and cache before you flash anything

Wipe Cache Or Not

Having recently upgraded to a smartphone ( Galaxy Note ) and starting to find my way around and rooted my GB, i decided to flash to AbyssNote Kernel and i see a speed improvement.
What i'd like to know is should i have wiped cache and davnik cache each time you change Kernel ... ?
Many Thanks
As Kernel masters sais its not needed.
But its not bad too.I always wipe cache/dalvik before a kernel installation.

So its best to wipe cache/dalvik before kernel installation or after kernel installation. I have been using PC Odin to flash kernel so far.
Many Thanks

Its not good to install custom kernel in pc odin.Probably now you have yellow triangle in boot (i dont know cause i never install kernel via pc odin but i know that the only i we can install via pc odin is a stock firmware).
Install kernel via cwm recovery (of course you need to root your phone and then to have custom cwm recovery) or mobile odin from google play.
I wipe cache/dalvik after installation. You need to remember that is good to reboot your phone 2-3 times after installation as many devs suggested.

Right ok ... Yes i do have the Yellow Triangle on Boot. Once i am back at home i will have to redo this again but using cwm recovery.
I will also wipe cache too ...
Thanks for the advice

[Q] HELP!!! Spent lot time but still Unable to flash HYPERION rom

Downloaded HYPERION Final Build 6, flashed to my SGY(stock rom and kernel:S5360_DXLF2_OLBLG1_DXLF1) using CWM with success and then choose to reboot the system but stuck in boot screen.
I leave my phone and waited for several minutes but still no joy. Used Odin 3.65 to recover the system and restore the stock rom and then flash again the HYPERION ROM but still no luck.
Please help guys....
If you get stuck at the logo screen try using a different compilation of CMW.
If you meet bootloop try wiping cache and Dalvik cache.

There's oneby skins and one by madteam. Search and you'll find it. Btw, flash to stock rom using Odin (if you're on a custom rom) before flashing hyperion.

after flashing DXLF1, try flashing EVO-X2.1 first then Hyperion (that's what I did). I used Merruk's CWM it has a much cleaner interface. :3
first flash stock dxlf
then if youre succesfull go to stock rom home screen
reboot recovery clear data factory reset and cache on stock recovery
then apply root update.zip (file you need to root ur phone)
next open cwm clear data and cache again
after that install hyperion then donot reboot and donot apply any update (must be later after succes install)
clear data and cache again in cwm
then reboot recovery clear data and cache again
then reboot wait for a while
thats my step and now im using hyperion smoothly

Link2SD and App2SD requires EXT3 partitioning on your SD card so you can have an extension of your phone memory on your SD card.
Swapper does the same, you need a nameless partition that your phone can put swap files into so as to reduce RAM usage.
Chainfire 3d requires plugins to properly function. It may be installed but not functional due to the fact that you may not have installed any plugins.
So link2sd ad swapper requires partitioning (theres a guide for that) and chainfire 3d requires plugins (google it)

it also happened to my SGY,
This is what I did - (hope this will help)
1. Flash your SGY to baseband DXLF1/DXLF2 via odin
2. Root it.
3. Reboot to Recovery Mode --> do data reset at wipe cache (2x each)
4. Flash Hyperion via CWM
5. After installation, still in CWM go to advance --> reboot recovery --> then flash kernel via CWM
6. After kernel installs, do data reset, wipe cache 2x AGAIN, then --> go to advance --> wipe dalvik 2x also
7. Then REBOOT (wait 2-4mins until cellphone fully starts)

Not all recoveries are working the same (don't care what other people think about it). Flash Abyss 4.2 Red Pill kernel ->Reboot Recovery (if the Recovery is red you know it's the right one). In this recovery do all wipes and then flash your preferable TouchWiz ROM. Be aware that you use Red Pill only for wiping. It's GB kernel so you wouldn't launch ICS or JB ROMs with this kernel.

ill try it, when installing the JB rom they usually flash to the philz kernal so the redpill one should automatically go away i guess.....
do 3 factory reset and then format system, format data and format preload to work. if you do only once, it have that bug. Every LSA ROM have that bug if you are coming from LS7 or ICS builds

3.go to mount and storage format system&data&cache then mount every thing
4.go to advance wipe dalvik cache and fix permission
5.flash the rom
if that didn't do it try flashing stock vie one more time and repeat my steps
Which kernal are you stock or custom
If Stock
A problem was being in update binary dealete rom from sdcard downloads again pls do no extract it boot into recovery mode wipe data wiprle cache mount everything wipe dalik cache then flash the rom

all roms here work fine
make sure you format system data cache then mount system data cache in cwm before flashing the rom zip
you also need to be on the correct file system and kernel depending on rom - eg stock based kernels for stock based rom and ext file system and a cm kerenl for cm based roms

Why is Cyanogen OS 11 the only ROM which i can install

Hi,
So, i thought of trying different ROMS,earlier i was using stock rom. Now, i download many new roms like cyanogen 11, creed v4, chobits...., etc.
But Cyanogen OS 11 was the only ROM which i could get to work, rest of them just installed and when i rebooted my device through CWM. Nothing happened and cwm just opened again instead of the actual thing. Like i said Cyanogen was the only exception in which when i rebooted my device it actually started
Please help me(what am i doing wrong)
Also what's up with Link2SD and cyanogen

CM11 uses cwm6 and requires your system to be in ext format
Stock Roms use cwm5 and requires your phone system to be in rfs format
To clarify
If flashing cm11 use cwm6
If flashing stock roms use cwm5
In both cases make sure you format system data cache then mount system data cache before flashing the rom zip
You will need to use the cm11 kernel with cm11 (in rom zip)
You will need to use a stock kernel for stock roms
You will need to reformat your system back to rfs for stock based roms unless the kernel supports ext - you do this by flashing stock rom via odin (link at top of dev thread or in my signature)

I can only install cyanogenmod 11 no other rom(i haven't tried any stock one)
Is this the problem, if you want to install a new custom rom, first you have to again install a stock rom...?

The reason why you can't install another rom if you have flashed cm11 is because only cm11 uses cwm6 & stock based roms use cwm5 - also the file systems between cm11 and stock based are different
For stock based roms
Flash stock rom via odin If not already on stock
Flash a temp cwm5 zip in stock recovery
Format system data cache
Mount system data cache
Flash rom zip
Restart
The gapps for cm11 is clearly available on the first post of the rom thread
Gapps for Gingerbread is easily available via Google if you search gapps

When I say stock rom this also includes any custom roms based on stock rom - such as the ones you mentioned
You are obviously on the wrong file system & not using a stock based kernel
Flash stock rom via odin first to convert back to rfs & stock kernel & use cwm5 to flash stock based custom roms
Gapps for Gingerbread (for use on stock based custom roms only & cm7) https://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
Gapps for cm11 only on rom thread
Thanks a lot !!
I'll try that and let you know
Thanks again for all your help .....
CyanogenMod 11 uses the open-source MTD driver for the internal flash chip, as opposed to all other ROMs which use Samsung's BML driver. No other custom ROM uses the MTD driver (apart from the custom kernels that people are releasing for CM11, which are all based on my kernel source that use the MTD driver).
In order to go back to any ROM that uses the BML driver (which includes ROMs such as CyanogenMod 9), the partitions first need to be converted back to the old BML format. You need to flash all components of a full stock ROM at the same time - the PDA, CSC and MODEM - via Odin. There's no other way to go back.
