Out of external memory error - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
Just back to android world with galaxy note 3 after iphone 4s and 5. I have used HTC desire, samsung galaxy s2 and several android tablets in the past. I'm knowlegable about rooting and some ways of managing android.
My issue is that even if I have more than 10gb of space in internal memory a 8 gb sd in place and freed up ram.. my phone keeps telling me "external drive space" is only 1,7mb. I can't install anything more than 40mb from android store with a 911 error. It is beyond amusing how stupid android can be and I need your help in trying to solve this issue before selling my note3 as soon as possible. Your help is much appreciated. Attached is a screenshot from "storage analyser app"

I had this same exact problem.Try wiping data for the play store, google play services, and google services framework.

Thanks for the advice. I already did the cleaning for google play services but not the framework one.. I cleared all of them this time ,restarted the phone and nothing changed..extremely frustrating still getting 911 errors

I have that problem too. Sometimes when i install an app form the Play Store, a messagem pops up saying that i only have 175mb free space.
I have installed "Device Storage Analyzer", and the 175mb free space shows up there in the /system folder. This folder as 2.25GB total with 175mb free space.

That is same with me the system folder is somewhat limited to 2,5 gb and some applications or all of them ( I cannot understand) install themselves in that particular folder and voila!!!! With 32 gb of space plus sd card you are out of space!! Unbelievably stupid!!! I had to move all my applications to sd card and for now it seems ok? But I don't understand what is the point of having a 32 gb phone if I can only use 2 gb of it for applications.

Thanks for the Gmail account tip... This is for the 911 errors I assume. It does not cure the memory errors? Btw I remember having similar issues in my galaxy s2 in gingerbread that's why I ditched it!! I guess android didn't change alot!

this is what happen in iOS >> u don't have even file manager!!!
but u can access to each part of root in android SO android needs more brain than iOS.
btw u can use android like iOS if just using play store; buy music, movie, apps and etc and don't install anything by urself and do not use it as usb-storage.
However i didn't get these kindda problem in android But some friends of mine solved it by factory reset.
and this s because of dirty user data!
but in samsung way thr s problem in kies sometimes that cannot realize storage and make error because of no empty space for example to update phone.
anyway if u don't want lose ur data Flash another stock rom can be helpful.
:good:

Please don't get me wrong I'm not here to create a fan boy rage on android . What I see is android still not ready for daily usage of a "normal" user. A "normal" user who downloads music ,apps and games from the Google store and have fun with his device the way it is meant to be rather than spending hours to tinker and change stuff which should be working out of the box! I don't want to factory reset my note3 but if I have to yeah I will thanks for the tip.. I admire the things that android does but I will never understand why I have to spend hours to make it work..

Yeah my system rom states its only 2.40gb with 188mb of free space. Internal + media 28.3gb available 25.8gb. External sd 32gb, available 31.8gb. I'd have to guess that the google play installing your additional apps to the rom space by default instead of internal + media.

Music to SD

I'm trying to move my music that I download right to phone with gtunes. The app says it downloads to /storage/sdcard0/media/music/ but I cannot find it for the life of me when I plug it into the computer. Any ideas/suggestions that would help?

/mnt/sdcard0 is your internal storage (emulated card)
/mnt/sdcard1 is your actual ext-storage
both are accessible via MTP (media mount) but your apps that store music ie spotify and google music will cache it on the internal storage aka sdcard0 and this creates a major problem that needs to be resolved.
samsung, moto have this problem.
only way to actually fix this is via unlocked bootloader to remove the internal partition that is not needed.
just my .02 on this. :cyclops:

I had read posts about trying to redirect google play music to cache on the external SD card by rooting and redirecting the internal mount point to the external card. This is over my head, but is that feasible with the RAZR M?
Any body been having this issue?? I've been trying to change my location foe downloading music to SD card instead of phone storage it used to be /storage/sdcard0/media/music but I changed it to storage/sdcard1/music and it keeps giving me that message in the little black box as shown in picture any suggestions as to why it does that?
Thanks

I was able to find the offline cache on my RAZR M using Storage Analyzer with root access. I found the files at /data/data/com.google.android.music.files/ which was a directory I could not find using other tools.
I was then successful setting up a link to my external SD card using directory bind.
WooHoo, 10+ GB of music on my phone.
No need for rooting. Download San disk memory zone for free. In my opinion the only memory manager app ever need for internal to SD transfers. Available on android play store

Hmmm, not sure how that app would have told me the location of the hidden Google Play music cache. I can see the cached MP3 files, but it doesn't tell me where the files are, which is what I needed to be able to create a link to the external SD card.
Look. DL root explorer. Go to mnt. Then SD card0 is internal. Find the file with the music. Then after verifying the music backup one time (or move it song by song) and long press the music download or MP3 download or whatever that file is called until the menu pops up. Either chose cut or move. You will only have one of these as they mean the same thing. Then scroll up to parent folder and click that and get Bach to mnt. Then go to SD card1. And you can either find a music file there and merge them (that would be an option when you clicked a file) or you could just move it to the root of your external sd card. Either way the files have been moved to off board storage. Done. Got it?

PS. Don't give a thought to the cache. That's totally different and I can tell you need to just forget about it for the time being. Get that file moved and I will tell you all about that file. (You can just delete it later tho or now.

Peep this. Go to academy and look for the ear buds with an orange flat wire. They like $8 after tax. Man I promise they so loud if you don't turn em down for a lil but at first you will throw up. I don't remember the name but they come in a clear plastic case with a black wrap with silver words. I stole like three of em and bought two.(yeah they cheap so they may break) they sound really good and loud. Like I said they less than $10. Ten bux gets you then and a burger. Academy. [Q] Any experts out there?

I can't seem to find a solution to my problem. Please see attachment. Basically, I cannot use my camera or gallery because of a No External Storage Available message. I wanted to take pictures and clips over the holiday period (I haven't got a proper camera)... I would be very grateful for any help! Cheers!:fingers-crossed:
It would help if you attached a screenshot of your Storage screen in Settings. That will show what is available and what is used. Perhaps we can find your memory hog.

Weird System Apps Installed

So i just rooted my phone. I am loading TiB and noticed some apps that are Red (system apps?) and they dont really seem like it... and I cant even search the games up. I removed one that was called " Com2us.(adasda)TexasHoldem app" and once i removed it i noticed that it said samsung at the end... i notice some other weird ones as well but I don't know if i should remove it.
Match3VS 1.0.117
I'm 99.9% sure they are fine to remove, but the weird thing is that I can't even find it on my phone.
Does anyone else have those 2 apps in stalled ? or it's just me.

Dropbox Replacement?

I like that I get the storage with Dropbox with my S4, but I am a little concerned over their privacy policy. I've been eyeing SpiderOak, but I don't know if there is a way to get my S4 to auto-upload SpiderOak, or something similar. I'd even be ok with it encrypting things before they get to DropBox. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions here?
I use Drop box just for Pictures..take a pic bam goes right to it.I have also was wondering if there was something else out there but for now Drop box seems pretty good haven't had any issues...

Personally I use google drive. But these clouds are good and bad. 10 years later dropbox may still be around but smaller sites may be down or gone. Privacy seems to be the big trend now so I try to let one company (google) store my info rather than having several companies have my info. Samsung probably has your info too. Eye tracking. Clever name. Just call it I'm Tracking you.
Jokes aside the best thing to do is to encrypt your data then put it into the cloud. Takes more time but if its valued pics and videos or docs then its worth it. Other sites you could check are box, copy, and skydrive but im sure they all have the same privacy policies.

You can try mega, I believe it has the option to auto upload like dropbox. Oh and you also get 50 gbs of storage for free just by making an account.

I try not to upload anything to any cloud storage without encrypting it first if I would not want the contents on the evening news. Even if it is mundane, boring, everyday data I try to keep it in a secure container before sending it up. I know, email is not any more secure than cloud storage, but I don't email out my financial or more personal information either. I am just getting into the Android OS, but am looking at Cryptonite for a mobile solution. It appears that Cryptonite is compatible with Truecrypt, which would be wonderful. Would be even better if the Linux version of TC could be ported over. Or, maybe it can be. Perhaps someone with more knowledge in that area could offer some direction.
I use Ubuntu One.

I still mainly use and trust Dropbox. FYI, Norton also has cloud service called Norton Zone. They start off with only giving you 5GB, but if you install the free Norton Antivirus or Utilities app from play store they bump you up to 50MB even if you delete the free app.

Good Luck with the backup. I found whilst moving from IOS to Android that the backup for non rooted devices leaves a lot to be desired. This is one area Sammy needs to get sorted out properly. I mean can they not emulate / copy itunes or somethng? lol
itunes saves app data? sorry im clueless about apple-related stuff lol.
some of the games i play can be stored in google cloud but i am not sure if it will work properly on a new phone.
craigel, from what i understand, for sd cards you can store pics, files, etc, as well as apps, just not the complete app data if i am not mistaken
Don't rely on kies. It's garbage.
Try Mybackup
