[Q] Obvious Battery Drain On Galaxy Note 3 Email App - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After I had set up Microsoft Exchange Mail on the email app (which comes with the phone), I noticed it consumes a lot of CPU. I checked using wakelock detector. My note 2 wasn't like this. Anyone facing the same issue as I am? Thanks!

yeah I'm the same, its a mega battery drainer, wakelock for mines was 177 lol, I disabled it and used another email app.

Hi hon84,
What other email app you use? I need to hook up to Microsoft Exchange.

My company uses Microsoft Exchange.

I got this issue to. At least when I was on mj3. I'm rooted and have xposed framework so I used Greenify app to hibernate exchange. It helps. But now on mj6 I've not tested without Greenify so I don't know.
Anybody got exchange battery drain on mj6?

Nexus s battery and gmail

Does anybody have suggestions on to why gmail would cause 48% battery usage? Seems like a lot.

Seems to me like that would only happen if it were literally syncing constantly. I'd check into your settings.

Save battery by using sgs2's native email

I get tired of the battery life and phone running hot, so this afternoon I froze gmail and yahoo mail apps that I use and use sgs2's email.
Just notice that I can set the sync time, set mine every 4 hours.
Battery drains slower now and the phone runs cooler. The gmail and ymail apps wouldn't let you adjust the sync timing so the phone is constantly connecting thus per battery and heat.

anyway, for gmail the connection is not always on

I think for gmail and yahoo apps, connection its always on.especially yahoo..and the is no easy to set the sync timing.
With native email client you can set sync timing.

...
The gmail app uses push email which is 'always-on' but doesn't actually sync unless you receive an email. Therefore, battery usage is more dependent on how often you receive email rather than the fact that is is 'always on'
See: h t t p://w w w.pushemail.co.uk/
for an overview of how push email works.
My phone runs cooler without push mail, no master what the theory is. Sync every hour.

Battery issue

Ever since I came back from Asia my Nexus 4 has been having very bad battery life. It's been draining at around 20%/hour of occasional Facebook Messenger use. Last night, I left it on standby and the attached image shows the battery drainage ...
Normally, standby has a pretty flat battery graph, but as you see her, it basically fell off a cliff.
I'm on Android 4.2.1 stock, unrooted. I don't have many apps that run all the time, but the ones that do include Facebook Messenger (chat heads) and Pocket. I've had Facebook Messenger with chat heads since it first came out and haven't had any battery issues.
I'd like to avoid doing a full restore. Any ideas?
You solved your own problem. It's Facebook messenger.

Settings -> Google -> Maps & Latitude -> Disable Automatic Reporting, Location History and the first one.
google has this on by default to report your location via gps to their servers.
why did they do that? i dont know, seems silly to have it on by default and drain peoples' battery

Note 3 Good Email App?

Hey guys I was just wondering does anyone know of a good email app for the note 3 with a nice looking Ui, that doesn't drain the battery like crap? I probably check my emails once a day. At the moment I'm using an app called evomail which has got probably the best Ui I've ever seen rivaled to ios, however it only supports push notifications so it kills my battery crazily fast?

Try this one

K-9 Mail, as well as having the best functionality of any email client that I have found, has also had a recent UI makeover.
You can tell the mail clients to not push. I just use Gmail and set to pull every 30 mins.

How to install Google Play Services on PLK-AL10

Hi guys
I did a clean installation of C00B220 ROM on my PLK-AL10 (reverted from B395, formatted the phone) and put Google play store back from backup, using Hisuite.
However I noticed that programs relaying on Google Play services won't sync on mobile network when the screen was off. When I woke up the phone they SOMETIMES synced but mostly not.
I think the problem is based on "Google Play Serivces" is not properly installed.
I removed it and all google apps and wanted to install play services from apkmirror. I tried both 270 and 280 variants, and after installation, when I want to sign in, they say "Wi-fi or mobile data aren't available" (of course I have connection). When I start e.g. Gmail, it says Gmail relays on Google Play Services which is not supported by your device.
The phone is not rooted but I can root it if needed.
Pls help.
1) wrong category, next time put it in q&a/troubleshooting
2) As far as i know, all necessary Google stuff should be included in the stock Rom...

1) Ok.
2) I could install Play Services, first I tried with the wrong version. 248 is the correct one. Sync is still a problem. Right after the installation I received emails (gmail) immediately, but after a while I got them just when I woke up the screen.

After a manual reinstall it seems to work fine, but I need a couple of days to be sure.

Update:
The service is working well. The problem was that the "Energy saving" option was "Smart", and it synced everything less frequent. After changing it to "performance" I get everything almost immediately.

No, it's not bad. Depends what you are used to. I charge my phone every night anyway. In worst case it went down to 20%, but I used it a lot.

In the past days I did not use it more than 2 hrs. And the battery drained to 45-50%.

Yes but as I said I had many apps running in the background even when the screen is off (they're protected). Screen is far not the biggest consumer. Currently the top consumers are: Android OS - 21%, Android System - 20%, Google Play Services - 17%)
Bluetooth, Mobile network / Wifi are always on.
I did not see a big difference between "Smart" and "Performance", maybe 10-15% battery drain by the end of the day. This is fine for me. And I have Lollipop, it may consume more than Marshmallow.

That's too much man. Are you on stock ROM? Even if you keep many apps in background. Play Services should be around <5% and Android OS and Android System should be just at 10% at most.
