Or do you simply download it and run it?

Download it and hit your home button. Your device will ask which launcher you would like to use. Choose Nova Launcher then use always.
Reboot the tablet after installing Nova to avoid being returned to Touchwiz after closing some apps.

Hi,
I have three home screens that I don't use, is it possible to remove them?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Install a launcher like Apex, etc and you can pick how many screens you want. You can't change the stock without modification.

I'm working on a custom launcher based on the JB launcher and it will have this feature (already does).
4.2.1 here. Anyone that figured out how to delete unnecessary home screens?
You can't with the stock launcher. As stated above, you can install apex or nova launcher (or any other custom launcher), or just ignore those extra screens, google decided 5 screens is the way to go, and there's not much we can do about that.

Well, that's what I was afraid of. I use on my mobile Go Launcher Ex and I am pretty happy with it. However here I was wondering if I can get a 3 panel screen in stock without any other additional software. Hope someone will figure it out someday.
Hi guys, can you explain what a launcher is. If I add or use a launcher what happens to my stock launcher? Is it running in the background, use more battery? Will it keep my app arrangement in stock saved while I use a new launcher? Thanks for all the help I've been using stock ever since I used a Nexus.

A launcher launches apps, app drawer, home screens, etc. If you install another launcher, you will be prompted which you want to use, stock or the one you downloaded. Not sure if the stock runs in the background, but i believe your set up will be the same if you delete your new launcher. Download one and try: for example, there's nova, adw, apex, etc.

A launcher is where you find your home screens, widgets, apps, etc. If you download and install a third party launcher such as Apex or Nova your stock launcher is still there. It doesn't change unless you change it. You can do whatever you want with the third party launcher and it won't mess with your stock launcher setup. They are completely separate. It won't use more battery. It doesn't really run in the background. Sheen you first install the new launcher and press the home button a prompt for which launcher to use will come up. You can select the such launcher or the new one. You can also chose to use the option you pick just once, in case you want to test it out and go back and forth between launchers, or always if you decide you like the new launcher more.

I personally use Apex, but many people like Nova launcher. Those are the two titans. But there's a dozens of different launchers that offer different features and UI experiences.

I've used adw, long ago, but now i've been using nova and enjoying it over stock.
I prefer apex. Apex and nova are pretty similar. Go launcher is nice because of all the theme packs but has a lot of extra add on programming I don't care for like there own app store. Adw I've never really used

Anybody know how I can get the Swipe up action? for example to bring up recent apps or currently running apps. I used nova to do this however I'm not a fan of this launcher overall, I had an iphone 5 with the zephyr tweak and I want something similar to this. Please let me know

You will need a non stock launcher for that. TW does not support this and I have never seen one modded to do this either.
It is what it is...
You mean long-pressing the home button? Or you want a swipe up gesture to do that? Because as far as I know that's not possible. You'd need Nova or the like to do so.

Get Nova Launcher Prime. It supports a bunch of gestures and its wicked fast.
Yup exactly I want a Swipe gesture to replace the long press home button.

You'll need a different launcher. Luckily, the Android eco-system contains many different options.
Personally I prefer Apex Launcher but people also seem to like Nova Launcher quite a bit too. I set the swipe down to open my app drawer and the swipe up to directly launch Google's voice search, but the combinations/options are really endless.
Try both, or others and see what you like.
Try swipepad free from the play store, it is the best swipe launcher you can use with ANY launcher. You can set up your favorite apps or recent apps. It works so smooth.

Just curious, what launcher do you prefer? The stock one or another one?
This regarding speed and performance.
Thanks.

To me the stock launcher with stock keyboard ran a little sluggish to me. I went and installed nova prime and stock keyboard slugishness went away.
I'm hoping LG would polish some of bugs on their launcher to improve some performance as I kind of liking stock launcher.
Meanwhile I'm sticking to nova launcher.

Nova Prime!
Compared to Nova, the stock launcher is terrible.

Info
NOVA Launcher on all of my phones
Nova Prime here. Wasn't happy with the default launcher.
I have been using Apex for a couple of years now (on mulitple devices, of course) and haven't had any issues. Seems to run smoothly enough with the VS986 variant.
I just tried using nova prime but when I go to use the stock messaging app it says it isn't installed. Any thoughts? VS986
I have a VS986 as well and apparently, when you agree to start using the message+ app, it ignores the stock one and pretends it isn't installed. I'm not 100% positive of that, but that seems to be the case with mine.
I use Nova prime for all of my devices as well as SwiftKey! They are super fast on the G4 and allow the amount of customising I need.
I found the stock one was OK, but Nova has much more configuration options, and is a little faster, so I'm using Nova Prime.
Today I'm using the stock launcher. It's OK for now, but I like Next Launcher. I see many here uses Nova, so I'm going to give it a try.

Go to the app settings and clear that particular app's cache. And also restore/import apps do crash on some apps. So might want to reset the nova launcher settings of everything else fails.

I would try going into the app drawer and see if it works there... it could just be an icon on the desktop that doesn't know where or what the official name of the apk is. Then I would try the other suggestion that someone else posted before me.

Tried clearing cache, restarting nova, restarting phone, restarting messaging... No luck... I just downloaded textra and that works fine.
Nova Prime here too! Love it!

I've had nova prime for years. I signed up for beta test. Hands down one of the best launchers out there. So many options to make it the way you want it.

I have had nova prime for a while. I rarely use it. I like simple launchers. I use Google now launcher. If I'm on my launcher I'm checking the time or launching an app. I also try to only have one page with all my apps in folders. I prefer simplicity for my launchers. Thanks for showing deals btw!
