2 questions why you wanna change the dpi? And why not xposed?
Changing via build prop might result into incompatible Google play apps. That's the only way I know besides xposed (which app settings module have it safe but not sure it works on the LG g2)
How you you change the build prop it's on you.. if text editing or app. And it will result or might into Google play problems

texdroider_dpi via playstore. But the only way I could fix my camera app after the change of my DPI was to install xposed framework, then the app settings module.

App Settings via XPosed works fine for almost everything (don't change LGSystemUI's dpi, it messed up my keyboard when I did that). I ended up just editing build.prop via a text editor since my favorite app PropModder was giving me the large keyboard. It worked so well on my GNex Oh well.
NOTE: Change your camera DPI back to 480 via App Settings after changing DPI for the entire phone otherwise your viewfinder won't be showing you the entire picture.

Ehm, I believe there's a mis-communication here. I can change it to anything as well, but I CHOOSE to change it to 400 (or 380, depending on the rom and mood I am in).

[Q] Density Change

Is it possible to change the density to a lower density like the Galaxy Tab 10 density?
And only until i reboot?
I ask because some apps display it very small (CHIP Magazine, Weekend Magazine, ..) because of the high density.
So i want to change the density and afterwards i can read the magazines.
If i am finished i reboot and all is back to normal.
Root is available.
DPI!
I used this "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marutian.dpichanger&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5tYXJ1dGlhbi5kcGljaGFuZ2VyIl0." To change DPI on my Nexus 10, Deafult DPI is 320 just incase you want to revert back to normal.
Remember not to change DPI "Numbers" From 320 to 100, Keep testing before you end up on one, Since this tread has nothing else to talk about. Let me know your DPI,.

Which DPI do you use?
I want to have it like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 because the magazines should now be readable.
This is my go to density changer but you must be rooted

play with your numbers until magazines looks good for you.
hope that helps.
Hmm, does PA's (ParanoidAndroid I think) ROM allow per-app DPI? I believe it does, but I never tried it.

Not so good, after changing the DPI to, for example, 240 the tablet doesn't start anymore.
I have to reinstall it.

I like to keep my tablet as stock as possible with root, I'm on 320 DPI but i recommend going to 260 if you are on a Nexus Device.
Density changer works fine. I usually set to 268 but yes I believe PA does support this

Yes, but it does only FAKE the properties of a changed DPI, but does not really change the DPI from the tablet or phone.
And also if you change the the resolution.
The app means you have a lower or higher resolution, but it does not really change the resolution of the tab.
I need a real change of the resolution because the magazines are tiny in the middle of the screen.
It does not fill the whole screen because of the high resolution.

DPI Changes and camera

Ok guys, Got ya for ya.
I changed my dpi to 320, and bascially everything is working fine. The only problem is the camera is only using the top left of the screen. Its not taking up the whole screen. Annoying.
To try and fix it, I installed xposed framework and the module app settings, set it so the camera app uses the default 440 dpi. No change. Restarted. Same. Messed with the app some more, and come to the conclusion either i'm using it wrong or it doesnt work for our phones...
So my question to you, how are you overcoming this? Just living with it? The focal points are all messed up as well which is driving me nutso. Any suggestions?
Thanksss
is the default 440? i thought i remember someone saying in another thread they used xposed to set the camera back to 480 and that fixed it?

Also guys when you want to change your phone DPI,and not do it app by app you can use Texdroider its in the store.

I think you have to be rooted to change dpi. There are several apps but they can soft brick you very easily. Best is what is mentioned above. Be rooted, install xposed framework, and install the "app settings"" module. From there you can tweak individual dpi for almost everything. I adjust the following to get good uniformity, systemui, launcher (whichever you are using) and settings. Works great on my devices. I don't have the SGN 10.1 yet but that's the plan. It also allows you to change just the font size or lock rotation for a particular app, or even force full screen.

Adjusting DPI messes up lockscreen

Yeah I never had the issue on my S3 but I was running a custom CM based custom ROM. I'm surprised that there isn't more mention of it as I would think there are a lot of people changing their DPI once rooted.

Very true, I am on VZW so no custom ROM for me as of yet. I just got the S5 for a good deal. I am coming from a Moto X DE and LG G2. I miss both but I also like a few things with the S5. But the 480 DPI on this phone makes me feel like I'm running 640x480 on a 21" LCD.. Very sad that they cant allow different resolutions for large screen devices at the least.

Anyone found a quick fix to this issue at hand (misalignment on lockscreen)?
If so, which App Settings app would be used to control the lockscreen DPI? I'm pretty sure lockscreen was part of SystemUI but won't that change my system DPI as well?

The lock screen is park of Keyguard.apk or something to that effect.
Also, SystemUI is only the status bar and similar things.

Keyguard helped make the circles on the fingerprint lockscreen bigger - but it is leaning more to the left because the lockscreen is scaled.

Not sure if everyone already figured this out but setting the systemui to 480 in app settings does fix the lockscreen issue. You just have to make sure that you reboot the phone. Unfortunately systemui controls a lot of the things that I want to have the lower DPI such as status bar. I then had to set 480 for the camera and the incallui to fix them.

SystemUI is basically most of the phone and the reason why people adjust it below stock in the first reason.
I might as well stick to stock DPI...LOL

There is no fix for the lock screen. Samsung compiles all the firmwares with only one dpi in mind. To fix it someone would have to decompile keyguard.apk and increase all the values to the specific dpi. Pretty big project.
I wish the status bar and quicksettings were separate from the systemui then we could probably take care of them with the app settings xposed mod too

The dpi and resolution of this phone is easily changed using adb, no root required.
adb shell wm density NUMBER
Just change number to your desired dpi. This does mess up the camera if its not a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Also to change resolution:
adb shell wm size 1080x1920
This changes the resolution to 1080 like the battery saver options on the note 7.
Thanks. I don't use adb much but I'll study up on it. Hopefully using App Settings from Xposed will correct any camera issues. Appreciate the response.
