Ok...
So I am totally lost. I purchased a sm-n900 which doesn't look like it is getting much dev attention and isn't able to do lte (no big deal atm) or 42mb hspa+.
I prefer to be cheap on monthly fees with a nicer device... i used straight talk and family mobile att + t-mobile mvno. Tmobile has switched their hspa to 1900mhz locally so family mobile gets me 3g. 3.5g or whatever locally 24mb on this phone but up to 42mb on the snapdragon version (in theory)... plus one lte switch is made its going to be future proof...
So anyways. I was going to return this sm-n900 for the n9005 variant but these versions have me confused... since I am going to using it unlocked what is the difference between sm-n900t, sm-n9005, and/or any of the other sm-n900* variants that are us or localized to north America ... are the hardware the same with different roms/locks?
I don't want to make a 3rd switch. The 15% restock fee hurts. I think the switch is warranted. But I don't want to do it more than once.
Any help? Advice? Master version list with comparisons? Etc.
The only reason I saw to consider sticking with the sm-n900 was some kind of future ability to beat the snaps' 4xCPU with an ability to use 2 sets of 4xCPU on exynos (sp?)...; 4 high power and 4 low power all at once... but it was burried in an article and didn't have any hard info (could be pipe dreaming).
Help...

The so called power of the octa core is over rated. Snapdragon is faster and just as energy efficient. It won't even be possible to run so eight cores at once because of a phenomenon known as heat. Even if you got them all working at once they would just thermal throttle or melt so it's utterly pointless.
Snapdragon is the only way to go these days my friend, I'm unsure why Samsung don't kill exynos all together, perhaps it's only because they don't want total dependence on a third party vendor since they make nearly every other part of the phone.
Then apart from the cpu being better in its own right we have, as you already know, a much more future proof set of radios so I wouldn't hesitate to make the switch if I were you.
Oh and I haven't even mentioned the superior development opportunities with snapdragon since it's a much more open platform than exynos, if roms are your thing that is.

The n9005 is the 'unlocked' variant, the n900t is the one from T-Mobile in the USA, the hardware is the same only the modem firmware is different, so either is fine.
Just switch to N9005 which is international standard version for Snapdragon 800.
Thanks! That is what I needed to know, makes sense,
I think I read the tmobile isn't Looked. Does that mean its just a difference of Bloat?
One thing I did like on my tmobile when I wasn't using a MVNO was their Wifi Calling, (It performed much better than Grove IP).
Anywho, Thanks! I'll Switch.
Oh, is there a version SM-n9005 without the 4k? or do they aII have it?

Samwung galaxy note comes with sooo many version...
There is the original version in 1.4 ghz processor
A korean version (like mine) packed with 1.5ghz processor, 4G LTE, a tv module and a bit thicker compared to the original
And I saw another one, galaxy note with no physical button... just 4 old school touch bottons

The home market will always get the LTE with the TV module version. Thats what they did with the SGS II as well.
The 1.4 Ghz version with the physical home button is their international version which is sold ALL OVER aside from the U.S.
the "Old School" 4 Button one you refer to is the U.S version. Its specified that all devices they sell will have the 4 capacitive buttons to follow a schema. Also the U.S version will get a Snapdragon processor. As to the reason behind why the diff processor is unknown to me. I am sure there is some tie up or standard set behind that.
Same was the case with the SGS II variants. Aside from the ATT version of the original SGS II (not Skyrocket).
Majority of the people wont MOD their device and those who do, will come to XDA to obtain the proper MOD / ROM for their specific device.
The buttonless version it's the US at&t LTE note. Basically the same as your Korean.

The reason Qualcomm CPU is used is because it supports 4G LTE, and the Samsung Exynos does not. Sadly the 1.5Ghz Qualcomm CPU is considerably slower than the Exynos chip. Qualcomm is Cortex A8 chip, Exynos 4210 is Cortex A9 chip, which is more effective and faster.

Its not an att note. Its north American, Canada is getting the exact same version on all 3 major carriers BEFORE att even gets it. So call it north American or i717.
And why its different from n7000? Because samsungs CPU doesn't support lte. So they have to use a different CPU till they have a working lte exynos cpu.

I read lots of Korean galaxy note forum through internet and lots of people in Korea have bought international version of galaxy note because of the hardware differences and other reason is that Korean version of note comes with LTE which is amazingly fast. I mean its super fast as I saw the demo of it but you have to pay a price for it!! since its just started recently. However, because its new and there are lots of places in korea where LTE coverage is an issue as well and that is why lot of people have bought international version of note as 3g data plan is unlimited whereas LTE is not...
Samsung made so many editions. Does 1.4g CPU 2- core and 1.5g one 1-core?

the reason i bought galaxy s4 GT I9505 here in italy is because of the lte radio in it. and i say the speed is very impressive. i have already tested 3 networks here namely vodafone, tim and h3g and i spend lots of money just to activate and test their speeds via speedtest.net. h3g has the fastest reaching speeds of up to 73.46 Mbps download and 13.89 Mbps upload, but it is still very costly to download files through this technology, maybe in time it will go down. however, activation of lte here in italy costs 1 euro/month for h3g, 6 euro per week for tim and for vodafone its automatically activated without cost, its the traffic that costs a lot. rigth now i am limited to only 150 Mb per day but good enough to browse the net and do my banking transactions using this phone via lte due its speed.

Ahaa, useful, thanks both. How sure are you about the 9506?
So if I wanted a 32gb white S4 with LTE-A, I can forget about the 9500, and potentially forget about the 9505 since I can't find it for a good price/at all in white in the USA, and also it's maybe worth waiting anyway since the 9506 is the 9505 with a souped-up processor?
Don't suppose anyone knows any more about the 9506?
It can't be far away, a telecom company in Germany will be selling it and it's soon to get FCC approval in the US http://www.sammobile.com/2013/08/17/international-lte-a-galaxy-s4-gt-i9506-visits-fcc/

Been looking into it: seems that IFA (a tech show in Berlin) is on literally now here and Samsung are currently going through their wares. Nothing yet about phones, only smartwatches & tablets, I assume they'll be the big finale.
Or not: looks to have finished, nothing explicitly about the 9506 or 9507. Peculiar. Maybe the situation with the S4 has gotten so fractured and confusing they can't even bring themselves to announce the new models?!
---------- Post added at 11:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:48 PM ----------
Apparently Samsung are planning a review to look into the disappointing sales of the S4. I wonder to what extent those poor numbers are attributable to Samsung flooding the market with a confusing myriad of ultra-similar models?
By my reckoning there are 3, soon to be 5 variants of the same model, with up to three (64gb never seen in the wild) RAM options and colour schemes differentially available depending on location, with international capabilities mostly understood from enthusiast messageboards (esp here). There's already talk of the S5. Why on earth didn't they wait a while to get everything in place and make one international LTE-A compatible variant with the best version of their Exnos chip tweaked and mass produced and working well, all RAM & colour options available from the outset?
Yep. The number of S4 variants is crackers. It feels like the phone was rushed to market to meet a deadline set by PR/marketing people who weren't communicating with engineers... that's just me speculating though!
I wonder if the 9506 will have a bigger battery? That Snapdragon 800 will surely consume more power.

Hello -
I'm considering getting a Galaxy S4. I heard and read elsewhere that there are some issues with rooting on the AT&T device (no good recovery procedures, etc.)? This will be my first android device, but I'm fairly technical (and a developer) - I used to be more active on these forums in the windows mobile days. Here are some details regarding what I'm looking for:
Ability to remove all the bloatware from the device, and run a fairly stock Android version, retaining my ability to customize
Ability to use all frequencies on AT&T, including 4G (and not just on one band)
Stability
Would like a ROM that has USB audio support - I have several USB DACs and when I am done using this as a primary phone, I'd like to try using it as a dedicated media player / 4G hotstpot in my car.
Large infrastructure for device compatibilty and accessories
Decent camera/camera software
Good navigation software that works even where data connections are spotty
Choice of colors (probably want a grey/black device - I do not like the white S4)
Expandable memory (or 64GB onboard)
Replaceable / expandable battery support - this one is a nice to have, not a must
It looked like the Google Play edition had all the same bands/antennas as the AT&T version, but I'm not sure. Deal breaker there is the 16GB and white only options. Which version of this phone should I get, assuming this is even the right phone for me? Will the Note 3 be better?

If you want a GS4 that works on AT&T, and you want LTE, you have two realistic choices:
1. The SGH-I337 AT&T carrier-branded variant. The pros are that you can get it in 32GB and you have color options. You also get a ton of software features that are built into Touchwiz, including the amazing camera app. The cons are that the most recent firmware has a bootloader that's locked down tighter than a crab's ass. You can root it, but custom recoveries and ROMs are off the table.
2. The GT-I9505G Google Play Edition. The pros are that it's got an unlockable bootloader, it gets Android updates very quickly, and it's not full of carrier and Samsung junk. You can root or flash custom recoveries, kernels, or ROMs very easily a-la Nexus devices. The cons are that it's 16 GB and it only comes in white. Also, you lack some of the cool software features that Touchwiz provides because the phone runs stock Android.
If you want a GS4 that runs on AT&T but don't care about LTE, you can also buy an unlocked GT-I9500 or GT-I9505 from Europe. With either of those devices, you'll get HSPA+ on AT&T, but no LTE.

Get the T-Mobile N900T variant, it has AT&T/T-Mo LTE bands and works fine on both networks if unlocked. You can get it a bit cheaper than N9005 as well. I flashed a ROM that was modded from N9005's stock to my N900T so it reports as N9005 now but has full LTE support.

Keep in mind, it's not really a true octacore cpu. It's either in 4core heavy cpu mode or 4core light cpu mode. And Samsung has specifically said they won't be updating it to actually run all 8 cores at the same time (which might be better that the sd800, but I doubt by any serious margin). As it stands, you get roughly equal performance, but you don't get 4G video or lte with exynos. That, and I believe there is a ton more development for sd800 vs exynos.
So unless something drastically changes, the exynos is just limiting you vs the sd800 version.

i have a question that i ask everywhere but no one answer me:
Does Note 3 N9005 work on Tmobile's 4G?
Thank a lot.
Hi, I've only ever used the carrier-supplied phones on their networks. However, I'm thinking of getting the international version of the S7 Edge due to the Exynos processor. I'm wondering about the following though:
1. Will network performance be ideal? ie. Could some missing band support mean I don't get full speed?
2. How will updates pushed by T-Mobile work? I understand there will be an update for the new 4x range LTE band which has better building penetration. Would an international variant of the phone on T-Mobile receive such an update AND/OR be able to make use of the new band?
Thanks,
Steven
Network performance should be fine as long as the variant you pick up has proper bands.
Updates will be pushed by Samsung instead of Tmobile with an unlocked variant.

Do you think the difference is really worth it if there is even a difference?
From what I've seen one is better with certain things and the other is better with other things but even then the difference is very small.

I've been thinking of selling my tmobile s7 edge and get the international one. I switched from an iPhone 6 plus to the s7 edge, and my god... This thing is a beauty. The only thing I miss from ios is the emoji, and that is the sole reason why I desperately need to root my device haha
Edit: I'm still new to the Android scene but if samsung push the update instead of tmobile, does that mean the international variant will get the update much earlier than the tmobile version?

No WiFi calling, no volz... I'll pass. I can't live without the wifi calling feature.

You get better signal for people who have none where they live. It's very, very usefull. I don't need it but I still leave it on. FwYh

If you travel to other countries you can use Wi-Fi calling. I'm in the Philippines now and I can use Wi-Fi calling here and it's just like I'm in the USA.

I could answer your first question as I have the exynos variant and am on the T-Mobile network in usa, yes for some reason there are a lot of network performance issues, when I first for the phone my LTE speeds tested to be 60 mbps now it's only 20-30!

Perhaps you work in a large warehouse with poor cell signal or a large complex building such as a hospital. Perhaps your house is at the edge of coverage where signal is unstable. Plenty of reasons why wifi calling is useful for many people.
Wifi calling is not great but if you're in an area with poor indoor coverage, that's the only option.
My office just happens to be in a dead spot. When I walk outside, I have full bars. Even the tmobile repeater only picks up 2 bars. We have stable wifi so wifi calling works best. Sometime package drop affects phone quality issue but that's the nature of VoIP.
T-mobile Wi-Fi calling is a must for my phone. Tmobile service is not existent in hospitals, office buildings and sometimes on the other side of a tree.
I keep watching tekhd thread in international to see if that is one of the "T-Mobile" rom parts he gets working.

I have the euro version on tmobile, and my speeds are the same as with the U.S version, also I live in nyc where tmobile service is great so I never use wifi calling. I do miss volte though.
so you get LTE speed and everything else, except VOLTE and wifi calling and oh samsung pay ( but android pay will do) right? Because I ordered 1 from amazon so we'll see
Any reason why would wifi calling not work on Tmobile? I was able to enable and use it on my N6P so I don't see why it would be different. If I believe the international version forum, the most recent update enabled it and numerous users report using it on other carriers.
Exynos Lte icons
Hello this might seem dumb but i can't find the answer anywhere. In the past i have owned phones that did not show lte on t-mobile and would instead show HSPA+ now on my s7 exynos it just shows 4g and when making a call it goes to the hspa+. Is that how the exynos versions show lte or is mine not picking up lte. Or how can i check to make sure it is running lte. Thanks in advance and from personal experience i enjoyed using my exynos s7 a lot more then my s7 edge from tmobile. The exynos runs a lot smoother.

Yes, it is LTE. You can check in the settings, phone info area or with an app to switch network data type (in which you can chooses LTE only, etc.)
