does anyone know how to enable the on screen soft keys and disable the hard keys
This.
I have been wondering this since I picked up my note 3. Coming from a galaxy nexus, I'm missing my on screen button navigation. I really hate clicking a button to go home.

same here i had the nexus then got so used to it so I added them to the Note 2. But unfortunately I tried the same method by editing the build.prop on the note 2 to get the soft buttons to work on the note 3 but it crashes the system ui. Hopefully someone know a way.
If you are rooted, you can add LMT / Pie Control but not sure on disabling the hard buttons.
If you are not rooted, I was thinking there was an app similar to Pie in the market but I did not find it with a quick search.
same here.
And change the build prop because it will give you a bunch of force closures.
Closes I came to a navigation was floating soft keys in the market.
why would you? you lose screen space and they are already built in so you lose more then you gain
I would recommend to use Ultimate Navbar for softkeys
And Xposed Additions to disable/remap hardware keys
I use LMT an have the activation point just above the home button. I've been using it since the day I rooted and like it a lot.

Which module disables the hardware keys?
i heard that the same way as the note 2 in which you edit the build.prop works but there is an addtional step needing requring editing framework. If anyone is familiar please share. thanks

Be sure to install version 2.2 and not the attached .apk in the OP which is only 1.x for some reason. 1.x version .apk doesn't even have an interface lol, he just updated it the other day.

You don't lose any screen area with pie control. There is nothing on the screen for buttons until you touch the area you've set as the activation area in the settings. The activation area is not visible at all.
Wow, I can't imagine taking up a tenth of my screen over nav bar. That's just me, it's just weird when the keys are right under. Its just awkward imo. I love the nav bar on nexus devices, or any devices that don't have soft keys and a physical home button.

the skin would stick on the whole bottom of the phone including the button. you could see the outline of if you were to press on the area where the button is.
I just installed the Hyperdrive ROM and it has support for softkeys that do not cover up the bottom of most apps. Does anyone know of any other ROMs that have successfully implemented this?

How do you plan to exit the game if you remove them?
I find gaming on a phone super annoying anyway. Will stick to my Xbox for the games
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I'm sure that we'll have ROMs capable of hiding the onscreen buttons while gaming. You won't get stuck in the app because, in most cases, all you would have to do to get them back is long press the power button and tap on a toggle.

I must admit, Looks mega annoying to me too.
Maybe the developers have a workaround?

Needs a gesture to hide/show them. Or a floating small button with adjustable transparency to show/hide them... devs probably have this already worked out.
With paranoid android on the nexus 7 there is an option in the power menu called expanded desktop
Basically does this.
Load game
Hold power
Press expanded desktop
On screen buttons dissapear
When your done do the same thing to bring them back.
I'm certain this will be included in custom roms

A swipe from the bottom bezel would work if the software buttons auto hide. Sort of like the windows taskbar.

Or just hit power to bring the buttons. Or even better for the next Nexus : put hardware buttons for back / home / menu / tasks and get rid of the button bar

CM has gotten it as well
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...-hides-navigation-buttons-and-the-status-bar/
Not all games are like that. I have a Galaxy Nexus and when you're playing certain games the navigation keys turn into 3 dots and you must double tap them to actually do the command (back, home etc.), some games don't even have the keys appear. It all comes down to the games developers. I personally have never had a problem with on screen keys, I actually prefer them more.

When watching youtube in landscape, the picture goes full screen and the buttons automatically disappear. To get them back you just tap the screen. It would be nice if that happened on every app/game.
Funny. I don't remember seeing the sw buttons on my Galaxy Nexus. They auto hide in games.

This would feel great if we get this in Nexus 4.
Its all Software, Devs have to implement it and build an alternative menu-key or other control options into the game, instead of using the classical menu-key like in the navbar (btw Google also recommended this to devs).

The physical screen has more room on the bottom of the GNex, the SW buttons make the top and bottom even, which is not annoying. The N4 has the same screen side on botkm and top so with the SW buttons it's uneven and very bothersome.
I hope AOKP, CM, or PA comes out soon for the LGNex.
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
Euroskank AOKP (Build 5 - 4.1.2)
Matrix Kernel (24.0 - CFS)
Ondemmand (Screen On) (800/200)
Wheatly (Screen Off) (400/200)
Deep Idle (N/A - Noop)
BLX (N/A - Inverted Apps)
Black Exodus (Stock Voltage)
Get a Nexus 7 for games. Its a much better experience
Any idea if there is something that will let me disable capacative buttons for a while. Just a toggle to stop me hitting them by mistake while gaming.
I've searched with no joy so far.
Thanks
If you are rooted, get Gravity Box for Xposed Framework.
In the section that let's you enable Pie Controls there is an option that disables the capacitive hardware buttons.
When selected, you must use the onscreen pie navigation to use back, home, and menu.
There may be an easier way, but this was the first thing I've found.
Also related... if rooted use Sixaxis Controller and play your games with a PS3 controller instead! =P

Xposed Additions allows you to disable or remap all of the keys. Works perfectly on my Note 3. I disabled the capacitive keys and the home key completely, and I use Ultimate Dynamic Navbar instead. Less accidental touches when trying to take notes in class that way.
Broomfundel, I guess I missed the bit about it being for AOKP.
I use Wanam for all my main tweaks, and Gravity Box for only a few things (Like the pie controls) that Wanam doesn't have.
GuySmily, I hadn't seen that module somehow. Sounds light and convenient!
Thanks for the recommendation!

If you go under 'default language' for the keyboard settings you'll find your installed keyboards there. However there are problems due to the 3rd party keyboards not resizing to adjust for the menu bar.

I'm confused, I don't have anything missing on my keyboard (swiftkey). Also with gmd I've disabled the kindle nav bar, I never even see it anymore. The keys are aosp just that you need to swipe up at access them much like the 'immersion mode' in some of the newer roms.

I use two fingers swipe down instead of double tap. You can set any gesture you want.
Roms have double tap top screen to sleep.
Everyone he already given all info needed. This is one of many reasons why I love roms. I always have a custom tile for screen off and a softkey just for screen off that way I can access it either way and not hit a button. Nexus devices have always had crappy buttons and I don't wanna mess em up by hitting them 20,000 times so thats how I get around it. Lots of great 100% stable custom roms to choose from. Pure Nexus, Chroma, RR, AICP, Aokp, the list goes on.. Nexus is the best device for roms. Cheers.

The Best one I've ever seen is run resurrection remix with whatever kernel, elemental is good or Franco. Then simply add an extra nav bar button. So instead I having three at the bottom I have 4. You have the back, home, and recents +power button on the far right of nav bar. A single process turn off long press and you'll get the power menu with screenshot power off and reboot and reboot to recovery that's all you want.

If you can wait 7 seconds, you can use a Tasker shortcut to set the screen time out to 7 seconds, and then restore it after it goes off.

Noticed it a has a new cool feature to hide Navigation bar when you open an app and swipe up when you need it. When you open an app you'll see a dot on the lower left corner that activates or deactivate it. This is extremely cool!!
Not all Apps will have it activated the first time opened but there will a Tap here option to hide it.
This update sucks. Navbar apps doesn't work as well keeping it black.
Noticed it added a Bixby voice volume option with the rest of the volume options.

looks really ugly in certain apps now. snapchat for example puts the nav bar down there when it didnt have it before.
Also Bxactions is no longer hijacking the bixy button, it tries to start the bixby setup. guess i need to wait for dev to update it

I noticed the same thing. I contacted the developer through the Playstore and he says he is aware of it, and will try a "workaround". I really hope he is able to fix it. I really liked having the button mapped to the flashlight. I dont understand why Samsung is trying to cram Bixby down our throats. Its garbage, and if they would just allow people to remap it to whatever they want that would be a cool selling point. A fully customizable hardware button? That would be cool.
Not having a black nav bar is driving me nuts. Has anyone found a work around for this? I know you can hide the nav bar completely but have to slide it up Everytime to use it

Yes that's the problem. They removed the black option so if you still have black now after the update don't even mess with the color options. If you select any of the new colors there's no going back to black!

Icons haven't changed, I'm using an overlay from here. You can also make the invisible or lots of options.
This is gonna sound insane I already know. I've never been anything remotely close to the tinfoil hat types. I did my update yesterday and I use my Google maps all day long. I swear to you all that while me and my wife were talking, the phone kept picking up parts of our conversation like we did a voice command. That **** spooked me. Anybody had this happen yet?

Have you checked to see that GoogleNow wasn't turned on?
Doesnt bother me too much not having it black. But, i have this dark theme from the theme store (free) and if i select Apply curent theme i get the black in some screens.
