it has not resulted in anything bad but it looks bad so if some one have the same hard disk please give me that icon file
it was a icon file have black hard disk image
here is the screen shoot about how my drive looks from outside
I dont have one for a seagate hard drive, also i forgot the filename for the icon. But you can save .ico files from paint, I used to have a custom icon on my hard drive, might be the perfect time to try it

I just tried to write to Rom using XDArit.exe selected my SanDisk USB drive to write to. I selected the .nb1 to use and made sure that I did not select the .nb0. Clicked Start or OK. And then I noticed my Firewire was being written to, not my SanDisk USB Drive even though it was selected.
My firewire drive had 2 partitions, the FAT32 for the first 2GB and NTFS for the remaining 58GB. All of my information was intact, but my partition table was corrupted and the first 32K of my FAT32. I dont care about my FAT32, but my NTFS is VERY IMPORTANT and I cannot get it back.
HELP!!!!!
Wade
Hi,
Yes, the same thing happened to my system drive using the old version of xdrit.
There is a new version available in the forum.
I hope you had a recent backup?

Silver
Oh ****...
We're aware some of our existing tools, XDArit being chief among them, are currently in the hands of a way, way, way too large audience. XDArit was written with a controlled geek audience in mind, and was tested on my PC and two or three others before 'release'.
We are working our asses off to correct this situation. Expect a changeover to a whole new set of tools soon. This new set of tools will be much more intuitive, user-friendly and idiot proof: no more people renaming files to something.nb0 and wasting their devices....
Please accept our apologies regarding the harddrive...
Hi Peter Poelman
For me it was not too bad because I had a new backup made just befor I used the tool.
Out of experience I take the "backup" thing serious.
So, apologies accepted.
You guys are doing a lot of excellent stuff here.
regards,
Silver
Yep - me too unfortunately - lost my entire 40GB of files on my Toshiba notebook!!!
Really wish there had been some further warning (or more thought put into the sw) for non-geek users about the possibility of killing your drives with xdarit!!! And to make matters even worse - my usual backup drive had developed a problem with the firewire interface so I hadn't backed most of the data up (although this is just my own stupid fault).
Moral: Live and learn!!
Whew! That was close. OK I lost my FAT32 which was the 1st 2GB of my drive. But I was able to recover my NTFS using this program:
http://www.acronis.com/products/recoveryexpert/
If I had data on my FAT32 I could have probably kept it, but I didn't. It looks like this program could have found my files and let me save them off, but it wasn't nessesary.
I was a little bummed that I had to buy the program, but I have often needed a program like it before so the price was not all that bad. I spent a lot more time and money just trying to find a utility like this one that I could perform disk edit and recovery.
I noticed that I have 29 MB allocated to storage memory, of which 23 MB is in use. But I cant recall putting anythign in there to begin with!! And I dont see anything in there when I look at it in file explorer.
ANybody know what would be in there? Does the Jam put things in there? Is there a way for me to see what's in there and clean it out.
Could be anything under My Documents, applications, photos or an accidental video or audio note recording. Or applications from the Extended ROM.
As often is the case with the Pocket PC - there is a utility to help - and it's free.
WIMR (WhereIsMyRam?)

i agree - the Storage folder is a comlpete mystery to me. why do we even need an extended ROM? what msft should do is simple:
1) a user storage area (My Documents) in which there is NO data that is not specifically created by a human (i.e. no application specific files or other machine made folders with obscure names - how often have you looked at something in "My Documents" and thought "what is THAT? and can I delete it?")
2) a device storage area where ALL other files are stored - i.e. Windows files, Program files, etc...
The only exception to 1) should be user settings, playlists, dictionaries etc... but those should be buried, hidden and difficult to access inside one folder in My Documents
Does the stuff in Storage stay where it is after hardreset??
Yes filest that you put in the Storage directory is permanent...and it will be there even after a hard reset.
Regards,
Primoz
Storage is permanent & is used for 'Permanent Save' which you can find under settings/system
Checking the appropiate boxes makes your device sync with this permanent storage after ie. a hard reset.
Works like a charm!
The availablle memory is allocated between storage and programs automatically.

When you hard reset and run the Extended ROM it installs those applications RAM......
I know this has happened to people before but ive tried searching at work and now tried searching at home... couldnt find anything.
Today... I was using my 8125 ... I changed themes... you know cingular windows default... just the ones that came with my phone.
Somehow there is nothing on my miniSD... if I go to settings then to memory it shows it has 50 megs taken up... which is what I had before.. but still .... no data there
can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction.
I had some important files on there
Thank you to all that can help
T.
Don't panic, if its showing you there's 50 still used up chances are your files are still there.
What file manager software are you using? If you are using the integrated File Explorer make sure you have it set to view hidden files. Same with Resco File Explorer.
If you are trying to find your files from a specific application such as Notes, Pocket Word, etc. make sure its set to view All Folders at the top and not a specific one.
If all else fails buy a card reader and try to get the files off of your home computer. I would advise you not to leave your SD card in your 8125 till then.
Actually this appears to be more common than we would like to admin with the Wizard. You will most likely have to use a file recovery application on your compter using a card reader to make your files visible again. Not sure why but the Wizard just seems to at random hide all your stuff.
files are not hidden.
I guess im going to have to get card reader.
I don't mean hidden in the sense of a simple file attribute. You are going to have to get a disk recovery program to get your stuff back.
I have also had this happen.
It SEEMS to only occur during a soft reset, so if I plan on resetting the phone, I remove the card first, and don't reinsert until it is done rebooting. that seems to have stopped the problem for me at least.
Very unpleasant problem to say the least!
well I used a program called 'Driverescue' on the card?
is it supposed to be fat1 or fat2 (this made no sense to me) I know a lot about different file systems but have no idea which my card is... fat1 found nothing. I have yet to try fat2.
Anyone know of any good programs (hopefully freeware) to find my data
Thanks for everyones input on this matter.
T
no one knows of any good programs?
I've posted a few software titles that I used to recover my files....

I had all the files disapear, so I took the card out and reinserted it and it was fine.
Hello anybody! I want to transfer some mpegs to my storage card via blue tooth. My phone seems not to be sending things here by default. Is there a way to do this as there is not enough space in the internal memory to receive it and transfer it later. Thank you!
Hi - I tried a registry tweak to alter that but no joy - i think it is in the software.
There are other ways to transfer large files - a card reader attached to your pc will do the job.
Or use wm5torage which will turn your device into a usb drive.
Big files dont transfer with activesync - activesync just cant handle it. :x
wm5torage latest version attached
When I open the My Pictures app in WM5, is there a way to make it default to the folder on my storage card, instead of the My Pictures on internal memory?
I am having the same problem.
Pictures save onto my storage card, but the viewer does not default to display pictures from there. Also frustrating is that I click the pull-down location chooser and choose Storage Card but it does not take effect unless I pick another location first -- it just ignores my click.
I have found that My Pictures & Video stores registry entries of folder locations for both internal & storage card, and have tried making them both on the storage card, to no avail.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem?
It is indeed a problem for those of us who store our photos & video on the storage card, as I cannot use the nice feature "Play screensaver when connected to my PC and idle for 2 minutes"
No one knows a way around this problem? Surely there must be a reg edit or something that could do the trick?
Still looking for a solution to this!
Can anyone figure this out? It is quite annoying having to use the stylus every time to re-naviage to my picture folder...

Don't think there is a fix for this - tried various registry tweaks with no joy - I think the default directory is hard coded into the picture viewer software.
I use Xnview pocket as my default viewer and its much better and faster than the default one and you can change directory to where ever you want. & its free http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=12698
I've read lots of good things about XnView...but one question: does it have WM5 soft key controls? I though it didn't but haven't used it myself.
I've tried lots of pic apps (Resco, SplashPhoto, PictPocket LE) but either they are not WM5 compatible (Resco) have annyoing menus (Splash) or don't have a resize option for emailing (PicktPocket).
I'm trying to avoid using the stylus.
The default pic applicaton in WM5 is slow as hell but I like the simple editing controls, basic soft key functions (could be better, like selecting directory) and how it resizes any pics for emailing.
If I could find something that did all of that I'd be happy!

Xnview does not have soft key control but i find its speed more than makes up for this. It does not have direct email control but can resize the image to what ever size you need and many other image manipulations. It is also able to capture screens - and its zooming is better than the default one, plus you can have a slideshow with mp3 music.
