[Q] G2 on screen buttons - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I'm going to buy the g2 but i really don't like these nav buttons/on screen buttons. Is there a way to hide them while in apps for example they will still be there but i would be able to see trough them, fully invisible or something like swipe up. Thank you and sorry for my bad english

I'm on LG G2 D802 and as far as I know there is no possible way doing this unless rooting your device of course. Then you probobly could use the app "GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys".

How do you hide it with a rooted device?

Get the gmd auto hide app from the play store and install. It's a little wonky for me though. Sometimes it just stops working and I have to relaunch the program. Not a big deal, just a little annoying.
There's a mod/ROM you can flash with the smaller navbar, I haven't tried it yet.

Or...
after you successfully rooted your G2 and want to remove it entirely, you may try this:

Thank you maybe i will use the app

Any way to change the soft keys?

I've looked around and it appears there are a number of paid apps that apparently let me change the soft keys, but I'm not 100% sure if they'll work with the stock LG G2 "OS"...
I want my multitasking button back... No need for a settings button, IMO.

Absolutely. And I'm handy with UNIX, so navigating the filesystem and using text editors to muck with XML isn't a problem. I'm just not a developer.
Also interested in being able to change it that key to recent apps.

Just tested, no you can not. It will always hide after you lock your screen, so you'll have to swipe/touch to bring the soft keys back up.

And also it will always overlap over the screen. There are ways to keep the navbar from disappearing, but you won't be able to access anythi g underneath it because it doesn't shift the screen up, just overlay

Big letdown because it looks like a great app. Hopefully the dev can get it working for us in the future.

My quasi solution was auto hide soft keys, auto to 0, auto hide only had anywhere on the bar checked, and swipe. You still need to swipe after wake, but if you need anything under it, just tap the left side to hide. If you use the mock option, home will leave space for it.

I sent the nova developer an email about it. He said he is looking into it. He can enable if LG allows third party apps access to that feature.

I use GMD soft keys to hide them completely then use LMT for pie. That way I can completely control my button layout, gain screen real estate, navigate from left right and bottom and do it with whatever colors I choose. A must have for me.

There is a qslide toggle button with the other toggles at the top of the pull down. That will remove it.

Knock On works on the customer roms and Knock Off can be done by the following, use either Apex or Nova as your launcher and set the launcher up that a double tab executes the app from the link below and Knock Off will work from any where on the home screen.

im running cm 10.2 as of now.. my suggestion to you is to download screen off... the icon is a black and grayish power button... if you dont use the swipe up from the home button that much for google now, when downloaded you can replace the default so when swiping up from the home button it turns off your screen! its what im using right now and i like it because it works everywhere, even the lockscreen! , also you can do the same thing routing the same app to a double tap feature on apex/nova launcher if you like the knock itself, but as far as just turning off your device when its flat down, this is my solution hope it helped!
"Knock Off" can also be implemented by using GMD Gesture Control and defining a screen off gesture (e. g. swiping down with 3 or 4 fingers). Has the added advantage that it works everywhere, regardless whether you are in the launcher or in any app. Use that on my Tablet Z very successfully.

I do not think there is a "Knock" sound. It is what happens with the gesture of tapping on the screen twice.

[REQ] [D801] Smaller Nav Bar for AOSP 4.4

As mentioned in the title, I'd like a smaller nav bar (half the original size is preferred) for 4.4 AOSP (I'm running PA) on the D801.
Thanks!

I wanted this too, but I've found at least temporary happiness with the ultimate dynamic nav bar app and it's auto hide ability. Just tap at the bottom for the bar. Free ver also keys you add menu key which I hated not having.

The Gravitybox module for Xposed Framework allows you to do this.

No worries, it's definitely a feature packed module. Just be aware that certain things won't work with PA4 because it's not "pure" AOSP which GB is built for but still does a whole lot of handy things.

Broken slide aside?

Is anyone else's slide aside not working? I still have the apk in my system/app but it has never worked. I have gmd and use a gesture to move between apps but I want to at least try it out. Can anyone provide me with an apk to try to replace mine if it is broken or corrupted? Thanks in advance.

verizon, rooted, custom recovery, no rom. i rooted it right out of the box and installed twrp the next day. i didnt try to do slide aside until after twrp i believe. but i do vaguely remember the tutorial come up for it. like i said i can see it in titanium, root explorer, and apps, sometime it ill even show up in running apps, it is just not functional. its just very weird that i have the file but it disappeared completely from my settings menu, unless it is somewhere else with verizon. thanks for you help with this by the way.

I will admit this has me scratching my head. It does not show up in the Settings listing (which where it is with Verizon, as I have Verizon as well) but you are seeing it in the System folder. The first thing I would say is try a hard reset to see if this corrects the issue. You will need to re-install all your apps, unless you make a back up first.
---------- Post added at 12:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:22 PM ----------
By any chance did you Freeze it "not knowing" with Titanium. This could explain your issue??? Maybe.
No I checked to see if I froze it by mistake or disabled it but it isn't. Maybe something else I froze is affecting i?? Like I said I use gmd to switch apps, I just wanted to try it out. Not a big enough deal for me to reset. Thanks for you help though

Have you messed with settings menu at all like you do when installing split view mod? Mine is frozen and still in gestures menu...
I would suggest reinstalling or flashing stock settings menu.
Before i rooted it used to work, but after i rooted and used gmd gestures it stoped not sure why. But believe me you don't need it i simply froze the app, plus it will hinder my gesture options of using 3 fingers.

Rip,
Did you ever figure out the issue? Its happening to me to. Im on verizon rooted with stock rom and I no longer see it in my settings/gesture menu but I see the app still on my phone. I saw someone in IRC say it was a bug with the app. But was wondering if anyone ever found what the issue is.

No I never did resolve it. Once a decent 4.4 rom came out I just went that way anyways and continue to use game swipe up gestures for home, back, menu, kill app, and to switch between previous and next apps. My nav bar is completely hidden so it maximizes screen space
