Just saw news on this and it looks like HTC One Max is also eligible but will get twice the storage at 50GB for 2 years. Taiwan and USA users are currently on 4.3 with Sense 5.0 so don't freak out if you don't have it yet. For some reason the Developers Edition is excluded from this deal.

So your device was unlocked and running something else than stock software, and then you locked it and were able to claim the Google Drive space?

No my device was running the latest sense 5.5 stock rom with unlocked bootloader and google drive wouldnt let me claim anything,
As soon as i locked the bootloader woola i went back onto the blink feed google drive thing and this time it let me claim 25 gb free.
I'm running arhd 30 on my dev edition s-off and unlocked boatloader and I have 25gigs. What's this all about?

i'm guessing you already have the 15GB free from linking google drive with other google accounts and another 10GB for syncing quickoffice with google drive. i also have 25GB right now and if/when sense 5.5 is available, another 25GB should be added on top of it.

There's an easy way-if you S-Offed before described HERE.
No wipe at all.
I need some clarification on this please
Does the boot loader need to specifically say LOCKED or can you still get the space by having it say RELOCKED?
Got the 5.5 update yesterday. My One is locked + S-off but no Google Drive offer for me, weird

Yes I didi that - until I was unlocked, it was saying I am not eligible to claim at all. Once I locked, its saying I AM eligible but it fails on invalid voucher when I click that I want to get my free space....

I've uninstalled the Google Drive updates in the Play Store, this worked. Before doing this I got no offer, my device has a locked bootloader though.
I'm sorry for the confusion
Ok got 25 gigs....
Seems I needed to upgrade to ARHD 31 as 30 was obviously not working.
Hard to say if the G Drive also needs part of rom or installed from the play store...
Anyway, I am fine now

Sweet, thanks. I will try and see if it works for me :highfive:
So I tried relocking my bootloader with the method described here and even put my CID back to AT&T's, but it still didn't work. I am S-Off of course, but it seems some of you got it working even with S-Off?
Thanks for the heads up OP! Locked the bootloader, uninstalled Drive updates, opened Drive, claimed 25GB Interesting that it states multiple times that "you'll have the storage for 2 years" and in the FAQ:
What happens to my files on Drive after the offer ends?
- All of your files will remain in Drive and you can access, download, or share them whenever you want. You won't be able to add additional files if over quota unless you buy more storage.

That confuses me - Is over quota over the original 15GB, or over your new 40GB? i.e. - If I'm still under 40 GB after 2 years, do I lose the remainder of my additional 25?

I used that method to relock my bootloader (I'm also s-off) and then, like some others mentioned, simply had to go to Settings-Apps and uninstall updates for Google Drive. The next time I opened Google Drive it allowed me to claim the offer.

I wake up everyday looking for news about 2.3 getting released. I am on 2.2.1 so I lost the ability to root. So i hope this comes out soon and if anyone has any info please post.
Officially it should come out in "coming weeks" as this tweet suggests - http://twitter.com/googlenexus/status/16974464310845440.
But there's a way to root your 2.2.1 anyways. Follow this guide:

Other than unlocking, which is the preferred and safest way to do it. You could just follow the guide that was linked here. I did it for my friend just last week because he was afraid of the official way to root for some reason. It worked perfectly.

Works fine for me. Did you get stuck at the looping problem after following the steps in the OP?
The way around that, as many of us have discovered, is to turn the phone off then run SuperOneClick and select 'root'. Turn the phone back on once 'waiting for device..' is shown in the program and then just leave it until it finishes.
Ensure USB debugging is enabled before you get started and that your PC has the required drivers installed. (Check Device Manager).
To be fair the Original Post needs updating as the instructions aren't very good without the above being mentioned.

Dumb question but, does that method allow you to install custom roms (e.g. CM7) without unlocking the bootloader, thus keeping the warranty?

Using exploit to root allows you to get rooted device without unlocking the bootloader. However, I cannot tell you 'your warranty is kept' for certain(as long as bootloader is locked and you can revert to stock, I think it's okay).

His question isn't about relocking the bootloader. But as long as you reflash the stock ROM and recovery, then I don't think there would be a way to tell without further examination. Regardless, HTC isn't too strict with the warranty claims, as many members on this forum have claimed warranty and sent back rooted phones to HTC. You should be fine.

Getting mine today as well. I've always OEM unlocked immediately and rooted used SuperSU on all my Nexus devices. However, on the latest L Preview for Nexus 5 and 7 Chainfire said you had to install a custom kernel to obtain root due to SELinux changes. Since I'm loathe to run a custom kernel on a new chipset I'm thinking of staying locked for the foreseeable future. Frankly ruins the Android "make it your own" ethos I've ALWAYS valued, but I just ain't gonna put up with tons of growing pains while all this is worked out.....

By from HTC and warranty may be affected.
By from Play, and I think warranty is OK.
I'm considering returning mine since I'm underwhelmed for $400, and I'll just relock it and return to stock first.

I think regarding HTC, it depends on what's affected. I don't think that they will deny you a hardware warranty just because you unlocked the bootloader and/or rooted. Unlocking the bootloader is a safe process sanctioned by HTC themselves. Well, on HTC devices anyway. Nexus won't require HTCdev unlock.
They really can't even tell that you rooted or what you've done if you return to stock. All they know is that you unlocked the bootloader at some point. If the phone legitimately malfunctions, they won't deny you a repair/replacement just because you unlocked.
The first videos are now uploaded, hope you enjoy them. Everytime a new cusom rom is released ill upload a videos running the rom. Ill be testing video, sound, webbrowsing, maps, play store and custom setting(if the rom provides them)

I was browsing the threads here and it seems the verizon htc 10 can be rooted, s-off, and bootloader unlocked via the Sunshine program. However, can I do it myself or do I have to mail the phone to someone?
Also, does the device have to have a certain build # to be able to root, soff, and unlocked? As I will ask the person I am selling what build they are using if so.
Thank you!
Hi,
I just got this phone yesterday and just went through this process. Upon immediately getting home from Verizon, I ran sunshine and it worked right away. I believe my firmware was something low like 1.19 or so. From what it sounds like though is that sunshine will work at even more recent firmware versions. Sunshine is just an app you can run yourself. All you have to do is enter your credit card and it will run. Hope this little bit of info helps.
Sunshine will work until Android N.
Verizon won't update us again til N
Pulled same crap with M9.

Just to reinforce what others have said, the phone can be rooted with any current Verizon firmware versions, and you will be required to run Sunshine for S-Off/Locked status. As has been said Sunshine is a breeze to use and the developers certainly deserve the mandatory donation, lol. Though the carriers were quick to lose interest in the 10 I've been very happy with the purchase all around, I would definitely recommend it as a daily driver that's fairly safe to tinker with (due to s-off)!
Yes, you can do it by yourself but I haven't tried it yet. It is a kinda long procedure and in between the process if you press the wrong key or did something wrong then you end up with bricking your phone. Nope. Any variant of the HTC 10 should work.
If you intend to do basically anything with this phone I highly recommend unlocking the bootloader and leaving it in that state always. Especially do this before accepting any kind of beta ota because you might not be able to roll back without bootloader unlock. Do not for any reason try locking your bootloader again unless a rom you are using specifically says to do so like Copperhead or you may end up semi or hardbricking your device. Having and leaving your bootloader unlocked also makes it possible to recover from almost every single possible problem that can arise with the device on a firmware/os level.
Yes,
Recent Non Beta OTA Update also Ruined the Phone. Since the Device was Locked it turned into a Useless Brick Now.
So its Strongly advisable to keep the Developer Mode on with USB Debugging ON and Allow Boot-loader Unlock Option ON at-least.

A misparsed or improperly fetched OTA can semi-brick a phone yes. It can also happen when the manufacturer or carrier push a broken update. Both scenarios have happened many times with lg and Samsung phones for example
So I got this little puppy free today.
What I've noticed so far, outside of having no service...
There is no OEM Unlock in developer options. All tricks to get it to work (moving the date up 8 days) doesn't work because the device won't give the options for software updating to be done manually.
Anybody have any luck getting the 205U OEM Unlocked? Tagging @physwizz on this.
The phone is a middle of the road, but if basic oem unlock can't be done, swapping out for a moto g6.

Not yet. I'm on the same boat. Like the phone but our model a205u doesn't have an unlocked bootloader option. I had a chat with a Samsung rep who informed me no help on bootloader oem unlocking. We have to find an unofficial way.
Anyome tried chimera tool? I checked the website and has the a205u listed under supported devices but didn't indicate bootloader unlock or root. I saw rmm unlock and Knox disabler. Also sw change. Hope someone can help on rooting or device without a cost. I'll pay up to 5 bucks but nothing more just for root when root has been free on all my devices since 2012.

Yeah, your best bet right now is to use the Android Debug Bridge to uninstall system packages without root.
You can achieve a relatively stock android experience and put on whatever launcher you want, which isnt too terrible at the moment.
We're still working on getting a TWRP going anyhow

That's right. No Way to root , unlock bootloader period. That's y the a205u is so cheap. In the USA no bootloader support. Go Motorola or pixel if you want bootloader unlock support. I sold my a205u for $125.00. Bought the Moto g7 power for $100.00 ..Rooted .. Leave Samsung alone in the USA.

Damn, so SM-A205U users are just sh*t out of luck huh. I even got this phone for a deal, 100 bucks sealed on offerup ;(

That ain't a deal when Metro is giving them away FREE with Amazon Prime. And yes, you're **** out of luck. But so is every other American carrier branded phone, and the American factory unlock version.

Yeah, your best bet right now is to use the Android Debug Bridge to uninstall system packages without root.
You can achieve a relatively stock android experience and put on whatever launcher you want, which isnt too terrible at the moment.
We're still working on getting a TWRP going anyhow

News flash on that model. There is no using ADB as most commands are locked per the Knox system. And if you do manage to delete any packages, that Knox crap makes it damn hard to flash back. Odin isn't exactly a great tool for that model.
Let's set aside the stock android experience - the fact that Sammy INTENTIONALLY LOCKED all their AMERICAN VARIANTS is TERRIBLE. There is no making that better.
That is why a lot of us that got this phone TOOK IT BACK and got one that did have BOOTLOADER UNLOCK.

Oh cool. Btw, what do you mean by "We're still working on getting TWRP going" you mean the Galaxy A20s that can be rooted (excluding the A205U)? Cause you can only get TWRP with an unlocked bootloader right?

Hang it up. There will never be a TWRP for this variant or any other carrier variant. This is literally the VZW of Samsung models. There will be zero development for it. Only the international models will see support as a reality.

Return it to Samsung. Tell them it was unsuitable and ask for a A205G
Samsung told me this.

Hey physwizz...tried that. Samsung said in the US they do not substitute for international models. They only offered me a A205U model in its place.

That is a script. Go into a Samsung store in the US their technicians will NOT unlock the bootloader. If that method was even an option an exploit would have been leaked long ago.

Well I spoke to the guy at the store.. when I have time I will see if it can be done. I told them the truth... that I'm a Developer and need the Bootloader unlocked to use my test keys to install on the device.

Please do, but I'm not holding my breath that Samsung will honor anything. If anything they are going to tell you to get a developer model - their quest to be Apple is going to be their end.

Followed your advice, got me a MetroPCS G7 power from LetGo ( Rooting and TWRP was a bit of a hassle but i was able to do it just fine).
