When creating a new text message via stock messaging app, how can I get customize it so that only the "mobile" phone numbers appear in the list of names/numbers as I type.
As of now, if I put "Joe" then all the Joe contacts come up but with home #'s and some other random numbers.

Hi guys!
I've got a problem sending sms with my Jam:
I write the text... I tap on "send to" and I browse on my contacts... I select one of my contact's number an then I tap on send button.
It works fine and the text is sent!
Well... when I go to sms sent items I can see the text I sent but there is the N I use instead the contact's name!!!! grrrr.....
If I reply one received sms it works fine and I can see on my sent items the name of the sender....
Any idea?
i've also noticed some glitches with sms on the magician, but i dont use the send to function, i just type the first couple letters of the contacts name in the "to" area and the names with those first couple letters will come up, click on the one desired and click send.
I think the reason i'm having problems is cuz i have spb pocket plus which completely exits the messaging app, so i just minimize it instead of completely exiting it.
If you start typing the contacts name in the To: field it gives you the option to autocomplete using their mobile number and will then show their name against the message in sent items. But if you browse contacts it will just use the number against the message in sent items.
fone fanatic, once you send a message wait for the little bubble to pop up saying message sent before you close the application, otherwise it ends up sending the message twice.
When I create an sms message
=> Messaging, New message
I wish to access my address/contact list so I can add my contact, without typing a number or such, is this possible? or am I doing it wrong?
I think it's not possible in the stock messaging app.
You can select your contact first and invoke messaging from there, though.
Try handcent sms (free from market). It has replaced the stock app on my Nexus (and Hero before) since day one.....

When using the stock messaging I start typing the name of the contact and it shows. I guess I'm not understand your question. Or just access the contact first then select to send the message. Handset is a good replace in the fact of the options to customize far more that the stock.
We're also talking about this in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645616
I noticed I just get facebook contacts listed, but not sim contacts... Why on earth would they not enable that?
Ok I notice I cannot access my address book and just add all the people that I would like to send the text to at once. It seems like I have to type their name in order the a drop down menu to add them. Is there a way to a access my phone book and add who every I like to the text message instead of looking them up?
The stock app on the phone is ok but I prefer Handcent Sms app free from the market. A lot of people also rate ChompSMS highly too.
On Handcent you can put a tick next to the name of who you want to send to from a list however a word of warning you have to have their mobile number first on their contact page in your phone book. Its the same on a couple of apps that use phone numbers so it took me a bit of fiddling to start with to sort my phone book out but its a one off job and works perfectly after that.
Handcent gives you speech bubble style of interface and is very customisable with the colours/fonts/contact photo etc.
Thanks Handcent is great.
Hi
i understand that on the nexus 4 and jelly bean, the "contacts" app displays every contacts, with or without phone numbers, while, on the other hand, the contacts dislayed in the "call" app, are only the ones with phone number. (same goes with sms, when entering the first letters of a contact name).
However, i have an issue that, many contacts i have, even though they have mobile numbers assigned to them, don't display in the call app or sms app...
Does this happen to you too?
Wait,
i think i figured it out.
it seems the contacts that caused this issue had no real name, even though they were displaying one in my contacts...
i'll explain. lets say i want to write a text to John Doe.
John Doe is displayed in my contacts from the contact app, but if, in messages app, i select "new" and in the "to" field, i start to write john, the name "john doe" doesn't pop.
then i go back to my contacts, click john doe, edit him, and the name field is empty... weird given android already displays this contact as john doe...
So when i get a random text from someone i dont have on my phone it changes all the contacts names in lg default messaging app to their numbers. Once i save that new random text number on my phone and name it all the other text go back to their names.... anyone else seeing this with the default messaging app?

I thought I am the only one. Same thing with mine.
Mine does the same but when I clear the app from the"recent apps" it reverts everyone's names back. Without needing to save that new number.

I've seen that as well. But all I have to do to fix it is open any message thread from someone in my contacts. Unread or not.
