Hi
i understand that on the nexus 4 and jelly bean, the "contacts" app displays every contacts, with or without phone numbers, while, on the other hand, the contacts dislayed in the "call" app, are only the ones with phone number. (same goes with sms, when entering the first letters of a contact name).
However, i have an issue that, many contacts i have, even though they have mobile numbers assigned to them, don't display in the call app or sms app...
Does this happen to you too?
Wait,
i think i figured it out.
it seems the contacts that caused this issue had no real name, even though they were displaying one in my contacts...
i'll explain. lets say i want to write a text to John Doe.
John Doe is displayed in my contacts from the contact app, but if, in messages app, i select "new" and in the "to" field, i start to write john, the name "john doe" doesn't pop.
then i go back to my contacts, click john doe, edit him, and the name field is empty... weird given android already displays this contact as john doe...

When I use Outlook to send a text message, I use to be able to start typing someones name in the "to" field and it would suggest peoples names. Now it stopped doing that. I know I can tap the "to" button to pull up contacts, but that means I have to take my stylus out.
Anyone know how to fix it?
I have noticed that the inbox shows all messages, including those I have sent when the person has not replied yet. I understand this is because of the threaded view. Any way to disable it?
I think there is a registry trick to show individual messages instead of threads, does it also show sent messages in the inbox?
Also, for sent messages without a reply the subject line shows the surname ahead of the first name, both in the inbox and in the sent items folder. Is this a bug?
I don't understand what you want. Do you want to see all the messages you have sent to a person? (to do that, tap the message in TouchFlo). Please explain. Sorry if I am the only one who doesn't get it. Cheers!
Sorry for not makiing it clear. Suppose you have sent a message to a person X. This is the first time you have made contact with X. He hasn't replied. Then, if you go to your inbox, you will see that the sms you sent appears in the inbox, even though he hasn't replied. So you are basically seeing a sent message in the inbox folder.
I disabled threaded view and they don't appear anymore. I wanted to know if we can make them disappear in threaded view. I assume not, because it is a feature of the threaded view.
Secondly, in the case of X who has never sent me an sms, I will see him as "Surname, X" instead of "X Surname" in the subject field. I wonder if this is a bug?
not really a bug. It depends on how you want to view your contacts' name. If you have noticed, in all contacts you also see Surname, X.
Well, all my contacts are sorted by "X Surname". And in all my sms they appear as "X Surname" except those from whom I have received no sms yet.
Can you pls guide me how you have sorted your contacts as "X Surname"...I could not find any option for specifying the sorting order.
You can either edit the contact and choose "More" at the bottom of the screen or, to do it for all the contacts, use Contact Changer 1.3.

Shouldn't there be a contact drop down in the "TO:" line when composing an SMS - I don't see one and I'm accustomed to it being there.
This also takes up the character count in the SMS field, same behavior is exhibbted in all message applications, i.e. outlook, windows live.
It seems that auto suggestion is disabled by XT9 - although turning off XT9 by turning off predictive text in settings does not correct this - thoughts?
This wouldnt help your situation. But i remember composing emails and that dam contact list would come up. It was so hard getting to the actualy subject line because if i would click down it would think im trying to select a contact on the contact list. Im happen it was dropped
When I begin typing a name in this field, I do have a drop down list of contacts...
I am not using T9.
You can still type your contact's name directly from the homescreen, and then select "sms" by rolling the trackball left-right.

Click to collapse
i have the same problem.
When composing a new sms or email on my other wm5 ppc, typing the first few characters of a contact's name would call up a list but this just doesn't happen in my htc snap.
anyone have a solution?
So I had received text message that I wanted to forward. I pressed and held the text, selected "Forward" from the menu, and I get the "to" box and the body, but where are my contacts? I can't select a contact to fwd the message to, can you?
Tapping the "to" box just brings up swype, and taping the little contact icon does nothing.
Help!
update--- okay, so apparently the samsung messaging app on this phone sucks, but fwd'ing happened to be my first run in with it. When I click on messaging from the home screen, then "compose new" @ the top, I can't select from a list of contacts. Instead, I have to start typing out the name of who I want to send it to in the "to" field and find them in the drop down autofill list. Also, the name that appears at the top next to the "contact" icon only shows the first name entered.
So, it would appear this is more along the lines of an annoyance with their program than a bug. Can anyone confirm these issues? Is it maybe just that my contacts aren't synced correctly or something?
I'm posting this here because it seems to be an issue specific to the messaging app on my S4.. I have ONE contact that, when I try to send an MMS to, can never find the right person, unless I go to a chat with her and attach it after the fact. Here's the way I typically do it (and what happens):
- Open Gallery and find a photo
- Choose Share and Messaging
- Start typing her name in the To: field
At this point, her name will show up, BUT the name that shows up only has an email address associated with it and no phone number. If I send, it sends her an email and no MMS.
If I open the Contacts app, her name shows up twice: once with just the email address, and once with all the contact info I have.
If I log in to Gmail (where I normally go to reconcile all these quirks) and look at her in contacts, her name shows up once with all the contact info.
WTF do I need to do? Where is the email-only contact coming from??
