Action Memo Not Opening - SOLUTION FOUND - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Action memo will not open a new note no matter the route I take. Via Air Command nothing happens when I select action memo and when I open the action memo app from the app drawer clicking "create" does nothing.
I am rooted and have xposed framework installed. I have a couple modules but have disabled them all and rebooted - still nothing. I have cleared app data on all 3 instances of "Action Memo" and tried freezing & defrosting them in all combinations to see if one was causing a problem but nothing changed.
At this point I've given up and am about to defrost all my frozen bloatware and see if that changes anything. I am doubtful as I've inspected each thing and nothing seems to have any connection.
My doubts were confirmed - no frozen / disabled apps left and still no action memo. Tried wiping cache in recovery before and after defrosting all frozen apps. I am at a loss.
Anybody have a clue what is causing this?
***SOLUTION FOUND***
It turns out there should be 4 instances of the app called "Action Memo" when looking at a list of apps, like the list in Titanium Backup. I must have deleted one because when I was having trouble I only had 3. By going to stock and re-rooting my device was wiped and the stock apps were returned. I have all four instances back and everything is working properly. What a boneheaded mistake of mine it was to delete one of them...I really don't remember doing that at any point but I guess I must have. Oops

Have to tried clearing the cache through the stock recovery? I have 90 apps removed and the Action Memo works fine for me.

Surprised I didn't think to try that...unfortunately, it didn't change anything

Bump - any help or ideas appreciated.

Final bump I will subject you all to. If no one has any suggestions I will just have to flash stock, re root & hope for the best. I'm sure that will fix it but trying to avoid it I guess.

I'm not exactly sure where I read it but it was definitely in the Verizon Note 3 Q&A section somewhere. Someone else had this issue and it turned out being a specific something that they had froze. I can't remember exactly what it was but if u look hard enough through the thread u should find it. Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've defrosted all apps as my op description says. I realize there is no logical solution, obviously I've got a pretty unique error here. I'm fairly confident reflashing is my only recourse, but I appreciate your time in responding.

Hi,
having the exact same problem as described. Tried different versions of Darky's ROM, currently running on 9.3. Extreme. But also experienced on 9.2. Can't remember if it occured on preinstalled Samsung Froyo.
Isn't there really any solution to this ? It's really annoying not to have an option to sort your icons when they keeps messing up after reboot.
What ROMs are you having, guys ?

Looks like lots of things can move your icons update of apps can shift stuff around .
But if you are not updating> factory resetting etc then the apps should stay where they are on a stock rom after a reboot .

Solution
Guys, this issue has a relatively simple solution, the problem is with your touchwiz not saving correctly setting, do the following:
Go to Settings > Applications > All
In here, go find TwLauncher and click it, DON'T click force stop now just click the "clear data" button.
After this, your icons will mess around again, ordered alphabetically, just restart phone.
That should do it, next time you organize your apps they should stay where you left them.
I hope it help you guys, cheers!
EDIT:
If the above wasn't enough (in most cases it should), you can try to get Root Explorer and go to:
/dbdata/databases/
find the com.sec.android.app.twlauncher folder and delete it.
This is harmless, but it will again order alphabetically your apps, this folder will be restored again on next boot, so restart phone after.

[Q] android.process.acore stopped unexpectedly

Hey guys....I've had the Glacier for two weeks and I couldn't be happier. I got the OTA 2.2.1 and rooted it without any problems. Then, today I got a "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" only when I go to the phone dialer or contacts. Everything else works perfectly. Earlier today I changed the boot animation and the splash screen...both work flawlessly. I changed the boot animation back to stock and see if that would fix it but no luck. I have rebooted and taken the battery out several times but no go. I checked around and no one else seems to have the same issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance.
Edit...I just fixed the problem...I had downloaded a Tmobile voicemail app that was causing a conflict. I uninstalled it and I'm golden again. I appreciate the help. Thanks.
I've had this come up intermittently since rooting, and haven't been able to nail it down to one specific action or app, etc. It's happened since doing perma-root, and doesn't seem to matter if I'm running stock ROM or CM6.1 Alpha (which I flashed last night - had this pop up once or twice since).
It's annoying, but hasn't caused any real problems so far.
Would be nice to figure out why it's happening, and find a resolution.
What apps, if any, have either of you deleted since rooting?
Does it write any useful exception information in the log file?

I haven't deleted any apps...just hid them under general settings using Launcher Pro...the only other thing I did different today was unlock the SIM using the code Tmobile sent me but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it....Just can't access the Phone at all or the Contacts without a force close...I'm stumped...
Trying to figure out a good way to upload a log file...
I think it might have something to do with permissions..it said among other things...
W/dalvikvm*3381):Refusing to reopen boot DEX'/system/framework/com.htc.android.pimlib.jar
not sure what that means....
Please post questions in Q&A section.
Yep, I'm having the same issue. It does it when I'm using a few applications like Twidroid, even ChompSMS, and another one. I'm thinking it has less to do with what applications I'm using at that time (meaning it would do it no matter what application I had open) but those 2 I use 95% of my time on the phone.
& I as well have not deleted any applications only freezed them with Titanium Backup Pro.

[Q] 4.3 Disabled Apps list disappear

Has anyone else noticed this?
If you disable any of the stock apps a disabled app list will appear.
Settings>>Apps>>Downloaded>>Running>>All>>Disabled
However if you exit out completely and remove settings from your recent apps list. If you then go back in to Settings>>Apps the disabled list will have disappeared.
You will only have Apps>>Downloaded>>Running>>All.
If you click on any app for info about, ''example any app in your All list'', then refresh back it will reappear again??
Can some one try this?
I have googled and searched and do not see anyone mentioning this.
I have 2 nexus 4 phones both were updated OTA and have both been factory reset after 4.3 update. I'm running no custom rom or root.

Thanks for responding.
Thought it strange I was the only one having this issue. I figured there would be some mention of it with a google search.
If it's not displaying just click on any of the apps in your all list. Then then hit the back button. It should the be visible.

I'm guessing more people have this issue but just haven't noticed it yet.
Same problem here. I only have two disabled apps, currents and news & weather, so it doesn't bother me much.
I will say this though, for how long it took Google to release 4.3, it sure has a lot of bugs...

Did you ever get any solution figured out? I've got the same problem going on with the Verizon version.
Hi Guys, had this very same issue. I am not sure my symptoms match your's, but here's mine. Basically air command, double tapping on the screen does not fire up the Action Memo app, which is supposed to in a normally functioning device.
First of all make sure you don't delete/free ALL your action memo instances in Titanium Backup. There's quite a few, so make sure they are not frozen.
Second, check to see if you have the xposed framework installed. If it is installed, un-install it and reboot. See if action memo works via Air command.
If Action Memo works after that, you can reinstall xposed framework. This is how I got mine working again. Hope it helps

Man I wish I could be giving you a positive confirmation that it works... But it doesn't. I uninstalled xposed & all modules, confirmed all 3 action memo files aren't frozen or disabled and rebooted several times. Still no action memo in any form (air command, lock screen or app). I'm so frustrated over this one stupid thing it's ridiculous.
Only thing left for me to try is to move my titanium backup off device and go to stock and back.

Samsung replaced Action Memo with S Note. Old memos are stored as jpg in a device folder, actionmemo. They can be viewed and deleted but not modified.

Yes, I had to go to stock - it turned out that I had deleted (not frozen) one of the associated apps with Action memo. When I went back to stock it worked right away.

I'd suggest going back to a stock base and not touching any apps surrounding action memo - and unless you're positive it's not associated with action menu, leave it. Then try freezing the ones you're questionable about one by one and see which can be safely removed and still let action memo still function. Best suggestion there amigo! :good:

Hangouts SMS crash [solved]

Problem
-------------
Hangouts crashes trying to send SMS after 4.4.3 upgrade. 3rd Party apps do the same. As soon as you start typing hangouts crashes.
You disabled "Messaging" before the upgrade and can't re-enable it. "Enable" is grayed out in the Settings->Apps menu.
Solution
---------
In the Settings->apps menu - the 3 dots menu has a "Reset App Preferences" option. It re-enables ALL disabled apps. This will fix sending SMS/MMS. You can't have it disabled in 4.4.3 safely.

Also it sounds just like this here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/hangouts/4i6nKG-d2_M
But I don't have delivery reports and I can't enable messaging. It's disabled in settings->apps.

Sorry, can you move this to Q/A? My bad.
OK I found a fix. In the apps menu - the 3 dots menu has a "Reset App Preferences" option. It re-enables ALL disabled apps. Not ideal since I'll have to re-disable the others I don't want. But at least it gets messaging re-enabled.
That makes SMS work again oddly enough. Just need to deal with having a "messaging" app in the drawer that I don't use I guess.

Nice! Thanks for posting the fix, could come in handy for me once I switch to 4.4.3 as I have 68 services/apps frozen =P
I also had this issue. I factory reset, which is usually a decent idea after updates. It definitely had something to do with messaging being disabled and I couldn't reenable it either. Glad you found an alternate fix, loving the update so far

Yeah if I had been rooted and done titantium backup recently, that would have been my approach too. I didn't want to have to redo all my apps and settings etc. Glad I didn't have to.
I didn't use TiBu to restore. It's weird but this phone is the first that I don't really back things up like I used to. Mostly cause I have no risk of breaking stuff via flashing nightlies and the like. I've had iffy experiences restoring old data on to new builds so I started from scratch. So far so good.
Yeah I had this too. After the update, i could receive but not send SMS/MMS. Had the stock app previously disabled and then the enable button was gone. Drove me absolutely crazy last night and most of today. Tried half a dozen SMS apps and even downloaded two entire Roms to get their MMS.apk and try to install them (which did not work at all). Even deleted all my messages with an SMS backup app. Nada. Moto support (obviously bad idea) said to clear cache for entire phone, which totally could have worked but was completely unhelpful. I did dozens of Google searches about it and came up empty every time. I was just about to give in to a factory reset, which I consider the my last resort, and I checked the action overflow in the disabled apps section and found the "reset app preferences". Then just browsing XDA for battery tips a few minutes later, I came across then. I even checked the Dev section earlier. But I guess I should have checked general. Thanks for putting this out there for others to find.
Thanks for this solution. Made life better for me. I guess 4.4.3 doesn't allow us to disable the messaging app.
You are the man! I thought I was the only one having the problem. Thank you! :good:
me too. I can't believe it took me this long to find this thread. Not being able to send texts was a bummer. I was using some feature called "voicemal.":silly:
