Hi, i ahve a very specific requirment for my galaxy tab 2 7
the ability for it to turn on automatically when it detects charging (instead of going to the charging icon)
can anyone recommend a kernel that supports this?
None unless you build it yourself.

Hi Guys,
I used the new Nexus 4 Toolkit to unlock the bootloader.
As I unfortunately dont have 10 Posts, I cant ask in this thread, so I hope it's ok to ask here.
I installed the drivers with USB-Debugging (as before for my galaxy nexus) and unlocked the bootloader.
So far everything went normal and good!
Then I wanted to root the system. It was said that I've to enable USB-Debugging again and the system will reboot.
But then :
I tap on "Enable USB-Debugging" and I'm asked If im sure. After this, nothing happens. Usually I see a information-icon, that usb-debugging is enabled in the taskbar.
This icon is now missing. And im completly not able to connect to phone via PC and use ADB.
Im slightly desperated, as anything I could do requires ADB/USB-Debugging.
Can you guys help me?
Thanks in advance.
Does your phone show up as MTP storage OK?
I remember my One X decided to cease all USB activity except charging once, a reboot sorted it.
The USB debugging icon is a little jelly bean as per the attached screenshot.
thanks for your reply.
I dont remember If it was shown as MPT-Storage - will check this immediately after work
THe Jelly-Bean-Icon showed up before, when used the toolkit to unlock the bootloader.
I also rebooted the phone several times
Ok, now everything seems to be identified correctly, again. Very strange.
Maybe the PC needed to be restarted.
Sorry for this post. It can be closed.
Thank you!
Were you able to resolve the problem?
I actually have the same problem also my Nexus 4 is getting very hot and the battery is drain within 4 hours from 100% to ~10% (about 400-800mA consumption).
All stock - I've already contacted the google support but now are holidays.

I've got the same problem, except my device is not loading until 100%. It gets really hot while not doing anything and it's empty in about 3 hours.
I figured out that the Nexus is only charged via "USB" although it's plugged in the charger.
Now my device is charging up until 100% but it still gets hot, is empty in about 5 hours and if I connect it in fastboot mode my laptop says that the drivers are not installed properly even though I installed the naked drivers. Re-installing the drivers does not work either, it says that my laptop already had the right drivers installed. And when I connect my device when it's booted it is not recognized at all and does not show up in the device manager. I tried three other cables... Sounds like an USB brick, right?

My battery life got a lot better with the new Franco kernel but the USB-debugging is just gone. I was wondering if maybe one of the recovery developers could help here. The USB brick solution for the HTC Desire was via Cyanogenmod. But I don't think that they know the solution since it isn't a very common problem as it seems...

Yes, I called Google but they don't have any N4's in stock. so I keep rooted until I get a new device from them.
Got this strange problem. Every time when I connect G4 with my Win7 PC via USB, the "Moto G(4)" icon shows up but it is empty under it. I will have to go to the Developer options to click on MTP again (even it is already set to MTP) to show the internal storage. This is really annoying extra step. Anyone knows what is the problem and how to fix it? Thanks.
[Update] Finally got it worked by following this thread:

That setting in the developer options doesn't do anything. Every time you plug it in, it will default to charging and you have to click MTP in the notification. It was that way in the G3 also.

OK, I didn't know you were rooted.
It is a new security feature of Android since lolipop. It is to prevent malware on your pc targeting android connected phones. So that if you were charging it couldn't switch to connect storage without explicit approval on the phone itself.
Hi there,
Is there a workaround or a root function to enable Always On listening for 'OK Google' while the screen is off/AOD?
It is really bugging me but I cannot see a workaround already posted.
Thanks!

I have that setting enabled. It works on the lock screen where you can swipe to unlock, but not on the darker lock screen, where it shows the time and the outline of your notifications.

I have enabled them options. It works on the light lockscreen, where you can scroll your notifications and have the 2 icons in the bottom corners.
It does not work on the darker lock screen, or the Always On Display screen, where it only shows the time and the outline of notifications you have.

Works here as it should. With AOD and without. Are you rooted? If you are try other ROM. If you are not, try reflashing stock firmware with Odin or with Side Sync or whatever Samsung kies is now called.

Okay, I will have a look into reflashing if that'll fix it.

Same for me Dan, works after you swipe but not from AOD, every tutorial I have seen says the same, has to be "open" before it will work.
Bixby will unlock from the AOD screen if you set that up, hope that helps

It works for you because you are using a Note 8 ported ROM. Because Samsung enabled this feature on the Note 8. It will not currently work on the stock S8 ROM. Some people seem to be in a server side test to enable this feature though.
Okay, I see.
Does charging not stop at 80% for you because you are rooted?

It was working for me on Bat Stock ROM and it is S8 ROM. I never used stock ROM so I can't say anything about that, I rooted my device and flashed custom ROM before even setting it up after unboxing.

I meant "open" as in on lock screen re your above post, the screen after AOD, sorry for any confusion

It's best to think of the always-on display as "Screen Off", which is why OK Google doesn't work on stock ROM. That's standard Android procedure to avoid draining the battery by always listening for voice commands.
At one point, Google Assistant was able to listen when the screen was off, so long as the phone was being charged. Unfortunately, that feature disappeared at some point in the past half year or so (which caused me some confusion when it stopped working and I could no longer find the toggle).

That's not true. It still works on a Google Pixel running stock Android with the screen off and not charging. You never had to have it plugged in or charging for that to work. Samsung is the ONLY Android phone I know of that OK Google doesn't work with the screen off.
Source: I've owned the Nexus 6, Nexus 5x, the Nexus 6P, the Pixel XL, a number of Galaxy phones, and a few Motorola's and a couple LGs.
I updated my S8 to Oreo a few weeks back (Samsung Experience 9.0) and ever since I have a plethora of problems.
The main one being that charging the device is now a battle...
I seem to have narrowed it down to using a fast charge power brick (2.0A)
I have tried the official Samsung unit and cable supplied with the phone, and good quality 3rd party cables and plugs....nothing works.
The device does not even register the cables existence.
BUT,
If I use a standard plug (< 2.0A), and a none Samsung cable it will charge
If I use a Samsung cable, it does not. Seemingly regardless of plug.
I've also noticed that the battery life has significantly reduced, come noon time, the deice is ready to be charged, showing less than 50% having been sat on my desk, with little to no use. (I only charge it at this point as I know it wont make it the rest of the day)
Some other issues I've noticed since the Oreo update...Wi-Fi seems choppy, slow and laggy, and I quite often get the " ! " next to the signal status bar icon.
And almost 100% of the time if I try to cast to one of my Chromecast or Google Home devices, the S8 does not see them (connected to same Wi-Fi SSID), meaning if I open Google Home app, and click top right to see my devices, they are....sometimes disabling and re-enabling Wi-Fi will fix this.
I spoke to what Samsung call their 'Tech Support' and it was beyond a joke...their solution...."Turn the phone off and on"...that was it, they could / would not offer any more support than this, and also claimed that I was the only 1 reporting this / these "potential issues"
I had another update pushed to my S8 yesterday (14.05.2018) which according to the docs was released 10.05.18 - G950FXXU1CRD7
This has not helped with anything....
Has anyone else had any of these or similar problems following Oreo update?
Does anyone know of any 'fix' if so?
TIA

No sorry, not seen that.
I've not kept track of my device up time and/o/ usage hours.
I have my device set to auto reboot every Friday.
I guess all I can offer is to advise to use this feature in the settings...maybe open a separate thread of your own?
