Quick Remote - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My quick remote doesn't seem to synch with any device i own. Tried it on 3 different well known brand name tv's, even uverse didn't work. Any help appreciated.

I don't know how far you are from the device. My experience it's it does not have a good range. I did manage to get our working with 3 devicesbut I had to aim it over and over. I will only use it as a last resort our to show to friends. I don't see it replacing my harmony anytime soon.

Tried it as close as 1 inch :/, I don't see me replacing an actual remote but...would be nice to have.

Both my tv and my sat box works... My aircon doesnt

Everything works for me (including ATT Uverse), except my cheap Walmart Ilo tv.

What I found weird, is I programmed it for my tv and cable box in my room first just to try it out, but it won't work in the living room for the same two devices. They're the same codes.... When I get a chance, I'll set up a new room and see what happens. Just doesn't make sense though.

Compatible portable wifi booster

My thorough search for a compatible wifi booster has left me empty handed, and with a headache.
I am a paramedic, and am usually never sitting still, but when I do I would rather not have to park my rig on the router to get a signal.
Everybody knows the wifi signal is weak on our A500, is there a compatible antenna or booster that would allow me to get a decent wifi signal? Little side note, it would need to be portable, and slightly compact.
Thanks in advance

This is as good an option as you have. Sorry wish there was more....
No usb type antennas ? I do not have any knowledge on soldering nor do I want to mess up my tablet trying to figure it out.

In a word, nope.
Of course I don't know everything and am quite unqualified at a lot of this kind of stuff. So your solution may still be out there.
That said. If you find a better solution. I am certain that there are many of us that look forward to hearing about it. So don't forget to share.
Working solution..
Here at our home we have over 1acre lot.. its very deep and not so wide . but we have a Gazebo type structure about 400 feet past our back deck. our router is in the basement its a a average price netgear.. I bought a netgear router . that can be set in repeater mode.. this router we have will find all wifi signals and boost them.. I have used it on Construction sites as well. in a similar fashion from my work van to boost the 3g from our work computers in there...
So get a cheap router i think they are like 40.00 for the netgear one. make sure it says on the box with Repeater mode. i think is how its worded.. it will pick up open networks with a bit of setup.. you can find all of that on there website..
back when i was in the pc repair business NETWORKING WAS My big thing..
Good Luck..
Thanks er, but I'm looking for a portable solution, like maybe a plug n play antenna or something, I'm rarely at home, mostly mobile.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
my router i use for a repeater.. is pluged in the garage.. .. The one in my work van plugs into a invert-er.. its very small.. i think 1x4x6 to 8 inches.. they draw very little voltage..
But yes i do understand what your looking for.. I have looked for something similar for gps.. as you with wifi no real solution..
Good Luck...
This is a shot in the dark, but, .....
I see you are on T-Mobile? Happen to have an WP7 or rooted android phone?
Go the tether route, it really is your best and only solution.
Many, many options at that point, from paying for a tether plan to *ahem* 'circumventing payment'....
- for instance -
I have an HD7, the last update HTC gave out included 'internet sharing' - basicly a mobile hotspot when turned on - and I have not paid for, nor have been charged for a tether plan *seems I got lucky*
As far as android is concerned, there are some apps that will do tethering for you, and sets the data through a proxy, as to lessen alerting the phone co. as to whats *really* going on.
Good luck to you!
I do have a rooted android, the ability to tether and as well as a wireless hotspot. I use that when I can, other areas where tmo service isn't that great is what I find wifi for, and when I get capped lol.
Just trying to find an alternative to siting store front or on their router. An antenna is all I need lol.

Pls help new N7 owner to get correct items to play games on N7 w/ controller to tv

Hello to the Community. I first want to say thank to all you great people. This is the BEST forum going and you've been a huge help to many times.
OK so I'm a new owner of a 16g Nexus 7.
The main goal of this thread is I'm trying to find a gaming controller, the cable to allow the controller to function, and then a cable that will allow me to play games or watch movies on my big screen. I have some knowledge of what I'm looking for but not enough. I didn't want to make the mistake of buying the wrong thing, especially on line.
The other day I go and buy a micro HDmi to HDMI and realized after that is no go on either the N7 or gnex. So I'm here: I'm confident I can get good Info on all three of these items that work well and for cheap.
I have searched around here, other forums and on line but I haven't find anything definitive enough on what I would all need and works most current.
Need to buy on line asap:
The gaming controller: I don't care if its wired or wireless. Whatever you experts recommend is fine with me.
HDMI capable cable to TV.
If I have made any mistakes in posting or didn't include enough info please let me know.
Thank you all ahead of time for taking the time.

I am no expert either....just picked up my N7 today as well.
but i am pretty sure you need an MHL adapter...which is micro SD to Full HDMI female plug. then an HDMI cable from MHL to the TV.
as for the controller, i would probably stick with Bluetooth. you can use a PS3 BT controller (make sure it is official sony sixaxxis as some nockoffs use a wireless transmitter which isn't as easy and may not even work on the N&)
the PS3 controller i believe requires Root and an app which costs Money.
or there are other ones that gamestop sells called the Nyco playpad or something like that designed specifically for android gaming.
the Nyco requires a free app in the play store.
hook everything up, and you should be gaming in no time.
i personally can't wait to play some Old school NES games on my bigscreen.
There"s no mhl on the nexus 7.

Hey there and welcome,
I have done a couple of the things you're aiming to achieve.
For the controller, I have purchased a cheap micro USB OTG host (Right angled) from eBay for about £1.
This enabled me to use wired controllers, mount USB sticks for films etc.
I purchased an unofficial Xbox controller from Argos for around £17, it didn't work 100% from plug in, I had to modify the key layout file which took 2 mins, now it's perfect.
With regards to the HDMI, I don't think the N7 supports MHL, android 4.2 however will support wireless screen sharing via a dongle you plug into the TV. I forgot what its called.
Anyway, hope that helps, enjoy the nexus 7!
Edit: software is called miracast, looks promising. And if this method is preferred I guess a wireless controller is preferred too!

Sucks no Hdmi but o well gaming with a controller(wired or not) will work for now. What i wanted was to specifically find some ppl who had experience with a setup that confirmed working as recent as poss.
Price wise 1 for the cable and 17 for the controller works for me.
Do you mind linking me to the 2 products?

I basically just ordered a cheap, non-branded game controller (about $5), got a USB OTG cable with the same specifics (cheap, non-branded), and found a custom keylayout that works for cheap, non-branded controllers. Combined all those together, and I now have a nice controller that can play games like DEAD TRIGGER

Hey guys.
OK I got this http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=280894965492 for $7
I haven't had much time but with the testing I've done with the time I did have here is what I know:
dead trigger- I see that this game has a built in option to use a game pad and map the buttons. It seemed pretty simple to do. The one small issue I couldn't figure out was how to map the control to lower w/e weapon I'm using. With the normal touchscreen your able to move that up/down. With the controller it stays about right at a level where w/e weapon I'm using shoots the zombies at head level( which is great when shooting) but sometimes its nice to be able to move that, especially when you are moving. If anyone knows how to do this or anything else Im missing i would appreciate the help very much.
NFS Most Wanted- could not figure out how to get the controller to work. Any info would be great.
Asphalt Heat-I haven't tried yet but I'm pretty sure there is a built in option to use a gamepad as well. Correct?
MC3-Iv seen and heard this game is capable of using USB controller but I don't know how to get it work. Any info on this?
NBA Jam-tried straight plug and play with this game and had no success?
Beach Buggy Blitz- built in option for gamepads worked. Pretty simple.
Any other games that anyone has experience with plug and play or simple modifications would be a great help to me.
Thank you.

Can someone please please help me. I got a USB controller that works. The game in question is modern Combat 3 on the nexus 7. This is driving me fricken crazy. I been at this for hours and I'm about ready to go nuts. I'm at the point where I'm trying to map the buttons on the touch screen. I figured out how to maps most of the buttons EXCEPT FOR HOW TO MOVE/RUN AND AND AIM. I'm trying to map the left analog stick to move/run and the right analog stick to aim/movie the gun around. I'm kind of able to but the direction I'm moving are all fed up and I can't get it right.
I'll be able map the right analog stick to move the gun around but up moves left down moves right left moves up and right moves down. You understand what I mean? It WILL NOT let me to get right how its suppose to be.
If someone can somehow someway help it would be a huge help. I've literally been at it for 2 day on and off and I can't figure it out. Its so darn frustrating.

[Q] TV Remote App, learning IR code?

I've managed to get the TV remote app to work on proper brand name TVs in my house (Samsung, Panasonic), but the TV in my room is a Sanyo. The app lists Sanyo as compatible, but none of the IR codes work on it
I was wondering if anyone knew of a different brand option that might work with the Sanyo TV. The HTC One TV remote has an IR learning option, where if you can't find your TV brand, you simply point the TV remote at the phone's IR sensor, long press the power button, and the app will learn the IR code. The GS4 app doesn't seem to have this option, and I can't find a way to get the remote app to work with my TV.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

It's called WatchON. Apparently the same company (Peel Technologies or something) makes both the GS4 and HTC1 IR remote apps, but the GS4 version is missing some features.

Have you updated the app? It contained some additional IR codes.
AFAIK, there should be an option to email the company, if you can describe it with the model number, etc, I'm sure they'll be able to update the app with some more IR codes.

the WatchOn app is a horrible bit of code.
In order to remove an accidentally added remote you have to clear all data in the program and start again.
On top of that they have only 1 or 2 codes for each TV brand, it is really sad how little work went into the program.
Also the GS4 has a IR transmitter, but not a receiver so we could not do a learning setup if we wanted to.
I am looking for a new program which can take advantage of the IR LED but so far have not come up with anything.
There is touchsquid which is not cheap but appears to be probably the most fully featured such program available. Or at least that I can find lol There is also this one which I just ran into yesterday buy haven't had time to peruse yet. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5yZW1vdGVmYWlyeSJd The main problem I have with the latter is that I couldn't find any information on whether they will let you run it for a bit to see how it works. As those who have tried to set up more complex systems with good automation know it can take a while to find the flaws and just to flat get everything working. I would want at least a 10 day trial to make a decision.
I mean is it so hard to implement learning function so that you can take any ir remote and copy its codes to phone!? I've had my Casio wrist watch for more than 14 years now and it has ir functionality and, more importantly, learning function so I can literary control anything that has an ir remote.

Care to explain then how to remove a single device, as I walked through every single menu and there is no way of doing it from within the Samsung supplied app that I could see.
And having been a user of android devices since inception I would state that even if it is possible it is far from intuitive.

anyone still using the g1/dream.

If so what are you using it for? Phone or other. Need ideas not going to throw it out due to its beautiful history.

I'm afraid I'm also not using mine for anything, sitting a draw, but like you I'm definitely gonna keep onto it.
Alarm clock? You could get a 1.0 ROM or something and delete almost everything but the clock (and probably need a launcher for it).
Doorstop? It's pretty tough and chunky, and the chin might help.
A remote/Bluetooth keyboard for some other device, e.g. tablet. Idk how this would work, I've looked into it before but can't find answers.
Def sounds like a good idea for a remote. Maybe for you tube app on my TV or something other. Maybe give it to my daughter and tell her to have a ball.
Funny, I just found one of these phones at a garage sale today..... Perhaps some resource-unintensive Linux distro could be ported to it and it could be used as a small Linux box.
Still using mine as a WiFi hotspot. Since I have a free data only SIM with a volume monthly quota of 30GB
I'm using mine as a sacrificial phone when I'm kayaking. It's perfectly capable of calls, SMS, and MP3s still. The touchscreen works through a transparent drybag. I can be confident that if I should wind up in the water and the drybag should fail, it's no great loss.
Mine is with my 2 year old daughter. She play games on it ,really there is no other use.

I want to use my G1 as a screen keyboard and mouse for my raspberry pi. It would be great if I could make it usb plug and play so I could just plug it into any pi and be off.
I'm using my old mytouch 4g as an IP camera. The g1's camera isn't as good but that's another idea.

Using mine as a backup phone and experimenting.

Mine is sitting in a backpack full of electronics. The camera is broken, though. It doesn't matter; It's running a ICS ROM which doesn't have camera working, anyways.
I lend it to my friend, he still uses it as a primary device !!! he was never interested in smartphones, so he is very satisfied with that phone
I Love G1
Mine, I'm still using it as my primary phone, I really love it.
I just picked up a package deal consisting of an HTC Radar 4G, a MyTouch 3G and this G1.
I have unlocked all of them (using a Lycamobile Sim). Unless I really fall for the Radar, I will probably sell it (worth more than what I paid for all 3) and keep the Dream alive :good:.
But first, need to get it up to Froyo. It will do what I need. It's the model T of Androids.
The MyTouch had a bad sim card holder, so I needed to do some solder work and hack the holder so that the card just falls in from the outside rather than slides in. The back holds it fine, but it probably not very salable (though the outside is in perfect shape)
Update-
Got the G1 rooted and running on Cyanogenmod 6. It was a struggle to find coherent , relevant, current (not really current, but currently working) info on how to work this ancient piece. It has given me a taste for it , anyway and I hope to try another ROM.
Frankly, I am just rambling to get my post count to 10 so I can ask a question in the modding forum....
It was sitting in a laundry hamper that I was using to store a bunch of old CDs and other stuff I don't use on a daily basis. It so happens that the hamper fell from the top of my bedroom closet and now I'm thinking of ways to use this thing, but the first thing that came to mind was to use it as a distraction for the kids. Now that I think about it, it could be used as a remote with keyboard and all. It's running CM6, but I'd like to know if there is a ROM that is very minimal. My phone has no ability to make calls anyway, but everything else works. Any ideas?

Prototype Build TP with HDMI

So I just snagged a prototype/developer model Play that does have HDMI out on it and I'm wondering in advance what the best choice of bootloader and/or firmware to use for maximum performance and battery life without interfering with the HDMI out functionality.
I did my best to sort through the ten million "I wish my Play had HDMI out" threads and what I could glean from MAYBE legit prototype discussion threads sound like it probably has parts of its modem removed to make room for the HDMI (which is fine since I want it as a portable/dockable game device) and that battery life might have a problem, which I would guess is from constant signal search that can probably be disabled.
But does anyone here actually have one of these? I'd love to benefit from someone else's experience with them instead of having to make all the mistakes myself and figuring everything out the hard way!
Thanks!
Mind posting some photos?

I actually -just- won an auction for one of these off of Ebay... So I like the OP want to know, what's the real story with these units? I know they were display units for the stores to show off but besides that I mean. Do they have functional cellular radios? Are they unlocked? If I do a system restore through the normal menus will it screw itself over and never be able to use the HDMI properly? Does plugging in the HDMI turn off the XP's screen or does it splits its horsepower between the two screens?
Couldn't pass up on buying one, seems like a piece of history. I will post pics when it arrives (like a week) if that interests anyone.
Seller posted: " This is a fully functional Sony Ericsson Xperia Play 4G R800AT - Prototype Build TP HDMI. This phone cannot be activated or used on ANY service. This is a prototype phone. Phone's hardware/software is fully functional."

LoL yeah me too! I'm not at all surprised the guy who bought the other one also came here straight away with exactly the same questions as I have. There's still one left, if anybody wants it. We haven't received them yet but you can see the pictures the seller posted on eBay if you just search for "xperia play hdmi". I agree it would be nice to see the actual mainboard and once I give mine a complete function check I'll probably open it up and take some pictures.
I think that you have something different in your roms/kernels what let your Plays to use hdmi. So there is probably now roms or kernels u can use without loosing hdmi. Only root and mods

I actually sold my Xperia PLAY about a month ago, sad to see it go but I moved on to a Nexus 5 in December and it took me all that time to let it go. Mine was not an HDMI model though, it was an early AT&T model without the branding.
For those curious I added the photos from my old prototype Xperia PLAY.

Would love to see some pics as well.
There are some ROMs out there that are meant for those without radios/cell planes, such as Xperia NXT Gaming, but your HDMI might not work properly.
There were stories a few years ago about someone who said they had a prototype unit, but not many actual cases. One guy even tried modding an HDMI in there.

Yep that's one of ours. I'm surprised we got them for the price we got them for, and that the seller described them to be "for parts" which would have been a shame. Unless I get some nasty surprises when it arrives I wouldn't sell it for twice the price I paid.

Three of a kind at best
Always wanted to get my hands on a prototype play with hdmi never could find one:/

The phone showed up in immaculate condition, as if it had never been used. The HDMI port is very rough as you can see, with exposed circuit board. At this point I haven't been able to get the HDMI to work - I can't find any options for it in the settings and trying two different HDMI cables on two different displays hasn't worked yet. It seems the seller was correct when he said the phone couldn't connect to its network, as putting my valid ATT Sim card didn't get me signs of life. WiFi works fine. If anyone has any questions or any ideas on how to make the HDMI work, I'm all ears.
You can dial *#*#7378423#*#* goto service test - hdmi test. Few options there to test.
I'm also curious about this, such a presious gem you have

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried that and the video test did not display on the one monitor I have access to at this hour.
The HDMI status options all show as being "unknown"
The EDID reading option/ Edid Hex Data reads as "unknown"
Maybe someone who used this model before you flashed soft from other Play version and coz this u lost hdmi drivers in rom/kernel

yes
i had this phone with HDMI port 3 years age and used that for telecom exhibition
if you search on xda can find my post , i remember that i uploaded video and pictuesr both . but like always , some childish guys tried to say that was a lie ...
this is a real phone but is limited and just was for special offers to Sony-erricson like exhibitions .
I remember those posts everyone knew the phone was real lol they just didn't believe you had it because there were never any pics or vids that I remember anyway. But since you had the phone why aren't you telling him how to get hdmi working instead of sharing drama about how onetime childish people didn't believe you?

Well I finally received my phone, postage due I might add. It is indeed in practically new condition and mine came with retail packaging including headphones and a little dock but no charger for whatever reason. The HDMI output seems to be a Mac style mini display port aka "Thunderbolt". I'm a real Apple hater so I had to order an adapter. When it arrives, I'll post my results. In the mean time I am willing to pull the back off and take some pictures of the board if people are interested in that sort of thing.
It reports
Baseband version 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_21-42
Kernel version 2.6.32.9-perf
Build number 3.0.1.B.0.270
None of which seems out of the ordinary for an early build I guess... Anyway, I definitely won't update anything - other than rooting - until I get my display port adapter. Hopefully it will simply send an identical 854x480p signal out the port as it sends to the screen and it'll be as simple as that - one can only hope.
