Need Advice about scratched screen!

my touch is really brand new and with the stylist its self i scratched the screen musta been particles on it, so then i been rubin the scratches tryin 2 fix it and now the scratches now look rainbow colored when the screen is on and has a white background. any1 ever fix this? will a screen protector fix this?

You could always try rubbing a small amount of toothpaste (plain) on the screen with a soft cloth or a tissue then apply a screen protector, it should make the scratches less visable.

oh ok thanks, so what can i use to whip off the toothpaste? the same cloth?

Yea or a different part of it. Just only apply a small amount of toothpaste on the cloth and gently rub onto the scratch. The toothpaste should come of with the cloth but just use a clean section of the cloth if it doesn't. Try using a circular motion and toothpaste without any microbeads.
Hope this helps, at the very least it will make it less visable especially since it's only a surface scratch.
Apply a screen protector before you get any more scratches lol.

does the toothpaste help with the rainbow effect i now have because of the scratches? when i have on a white background u can see every little scratch and its rainbow colored

Chances are, you have rainbow effect because you tried to remove the scratches, but didn't do it properly. Try Displex, but it does require some work put into it if you want your screen to be perfect.
Failing everything, new digitizers are fairly cheap and easy to replace.

hmm, when you say rainbow effect, is it jst the way it shows through the screen at an angle or is it pushed in? (by pushed in I mean like when you put your thumb on a calculator screen)
make sure that you use a soft cloth like one used for glasses otherwise you might create more scratches. If toothpaste didn't work try "displex (enigma1nz)". I think you need to rub it in really hard with circular motions.

hey man thanks, no its not like a calculater, its actually on the screen, it only shows when i have a light or white background on the phone, i will try displex and some more toothpaste lol thanks,

Oleophobic screen

I noticed on the screen when I breathe hot moist air on to it, there are streaks of lines running across everywhere and I'm assuming it's thinning on the oleophobic screen. I just bought it about a week ago, should I replace it? I ordered a carbon fiber from skinomi and it hasn't arrived, and I really like using the device.
Does anyone use warm water with detergent to clean their screen by any chance?

As far as I know, you're not suppose to use chemicals on your screen.

I've always found giving a wipe with glasses lens cloth does the trick.

LOOL, hell no man. Do you want to ruin your display in a matter of days ?! Just use a glasses lens cloth as tumblerer said and that should do the trick.
Also, all those lines that you mentioned, that run across the display are part of the digitizer, not the oleo-phobic surface.

snap. get a good glasses cloth and gently wipe from side to side. i find circle leaves smear stains which can sometimes look like scratches and freak you out!
i've also heard that to effectively clean glasses, you should apply a bit of water - a fine mist - but i never do, and i'm happy with the screen tbh.
also, when i first took the plastic cover thing off the screen i found what looked like a bumpy textured surface. maybe that's the cause of your smear stains?
but, damn, the screen is so bright, does it really matter

What about soap? I heard using warm water with soap will get rid of finger oil completely off the screen.

nothing, no soap, no bleach, nothing. you will ruin it.

I just use my t-shirt, run it over my man-boob a few times and it's print-free

Agreed. Just don't use any chemical substance. Do you want to make it suffer ? lol

As has been pointed out many times above, you shouldn't use anything other than a smooth cloth to clean the screen.
If the screen is sticky and you absolutely have to use something to help get it off, you should use water, preferably pure distilled water as tap water can have some grit to it as well as trace chemicals.
Never ever use soap, alcohol, goo gone, or anything of the sort. Probably shouldn't even use saliva.

replace it, the coating shouldnt come off

I find the best way to clean anything I have is to breathe on it than use micro fiber cloth while it's still moist from my breath.
Gets smudges off everything.

i've that problem. the screen became gradually rough, now my finger doesn't slide. i use to clean it with a wet cotton cloth.
should i try to use the warrantee?

I clean with glass cleaner and a micro cloth
It works good... normally it shouldnt be rough after the clean procedure

Try a microfiber cloth with a bit of water. If that doesn't clean it, you can add a bit of alcohol (methanol, ethanol or isopropyl--it shouldn't matter) on a cloth. I'd use something diluted, maybe 50%, because the plastic isn't very good.
Is the roughness due to scratches? If so, there is nothing you can do about it, except get a screen protector to prevent further scratches.

cleaning screen with dishwasher soap?

I've put a little of dishwasher soap into the a spray bottle and spray on the cloth then used that to wipe the phone. I then rinse the cloth with water and made sure i squeeze all the water out of the cloth and wipe away the soap. then wipe it again with a dry cloth. Would the dishwasher soap be able to damage the screen? I did notice that the digitizer area seem to appear more prominent now after i did that (as in it doesn't blend in with the black sides as much as before)

Dont use dishwater soap to wash your screen..
I guess it causes scratches...

Good god almighty that's a lot of work to clean your screen/protector. I just drop a dab of spit, wipe with undershirt and I'm done. > 5 seconds

i'm kind of a clean freak, but yeah i think i made a big mistake. There's probably some kind of chemical coating on top fo the screen that keeps it black and blend in with the whole phone.

would someone be kind enough to upload a picture of their nexus 4 with the screen off for me to compare?

There's usually an oleophobic type coating which helps repel oil from your skin and keeps it easy to clean. I would just use water and a microfiber cloth, if it's some kind of grease on a rare occasion, I use something like diluted rubbing alcohol on a cloth to remove the grease, use as sparingly as possible.

Thanks for the tips. I did notice that it was super smooth and slippery when i first get it and it was nearly impossible to put on finger print.
Let me be more specific of what I did, I use a drop of soap called Palmalive Ultra(http://www.colgate.com/app/Palmolive/US/EN/Product-Ingredients.cwsp used for washing dishes) and mix it in a container about the size of a table spoon. Do you think that is able to take out the oleophobic coating or damage the screen? Also doesn't the smoothing coating eventually wears off in a week or so?

it's just your imagination. if it's safe to use on your skin of course it's safe on glass

I hope so. Toothpaste for example, you can use it in your mouth, but that stuff will scratch glass like it was mawed by a bear. Its not just glass, I'm worried that it might take off the coating on top of the glass.

Just use water? I think dish soap is mild enough to use

I suggest everyone just use water. For me its too late. By the way does your phone still have that slippery feel like when you first got it?

Use eye glasses spray cleaner and microfiber cloth.

Kind of grinding marks on Display

Hey XDA,
i have got sort of grinding marks on the left Side of the Display.
It is really annoying if light shines into the Display.
Is there a Trick to get them out, or can you tell me some good stuff to polish that out?
These are mostly pretty soft "scratch-areas", not really deep.

I don't really see a scratch there.
just gently wipe it off with a folded cotton cloth. if you need just pour 2 or 3 drops of water on the cloth first.
make sure you don't drop water directly on your phone.

Image Quality sucks, yeah.
Its a pattern of really fine scratches, Water does not help with that.

oh okay, I thought that the area is just a lil smudgy and water would help that.
but for scratches i am afraid you will have to live with. Try putting on a matte screen protector the thickness of the protector
prevents day to day scratches. I use the thin ones and trust me if there are keys in your pocket your screen will get scratched!
