Google play music application - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

The frustrat against android strikes again.
I'm just curious to know why in the world the songs available on Google play music on the Web keep getting double or tripled on my phone. I aprocimstely have around 800 songs on my entire playlist on Google music but on my phone it decides that some songs will show in double or triple... Why? Please explain me why?

You should use poweramp its way better and you can delete from there. I don't really know why but it may be categorizing the songs as different categories, artists, genres, etc. I also seen that when adding music that you downloaded from say torrent it sometimes makes double copies of the songs for some reason. I'd seen it happen a lot when I had an iPhone adding music via iTunes and I would have to go through all the songs and search for the doubled songs. But like I said download poweramp find a song that has doubled or tripled and delete the other one or two

The problem is not in the computer itself. It's the application or something. The song is only 1 time in my pc.
Also, does poweramp auto sync with iTunes? Like the music manager does?

it might be seeing a copy on the phone and a "copy" that it streams from their servers.

[Q] 1000 song limit for playlist on xoom?

I'm using isyncr mac for my xoom and have noticed both on my xoom and g2x that the new music program limits playlists to 1000 songs. On the g2x the "original" music player shows all the songs, almost 2000. anyone else notice this? Using other programs on both devices, ie fedes music player, playerpro etc the playlist show all songs. Is this a limit to the music player? thanks for any input
ps, not sure if this belongs in QnA or general. my bad
I asked Google support about this, and their response was:
"Hi,
Thank you for your note. There is currently a playlist limitation of 1000
songs. We appreciate your raising this issue, as we will review it as a
potential feature improvement in the next release.
Regards,

Hey, thanks alot! Do you have a link of where you talked to Google about it?

this really sucks. I listen to playlist exclusively. I really want to drop my ipod and using google music for all my music, but if they cant get this basic feature working then forget it.

Music

So ever since i got the tab I have been having trouble with putting music on it. Everytime i save songs on the tab from my computer, the songs appear in other albums, the artists names appear for other songs, I get force closes...
Does anyone know what this could be happening?
Also, would a different music player app help solve this problem or organization?
Thanks for the help!
I use mediamonkey to properly name, tag, and include album art. Afterwords, I easily sync the music to my tablet (or drag and drop, depending on the mood).
This method works really well for having organized music on your tablet that's static, the way you set it up to sync in mediamonkey. Hope this helps.
Hey, thanks for the response. You kind of lost me there though... You said you use Mediamonkey to organize it then you pass it onto your tab. Does that mean Mediamonkey is a program on your computer or did i just understand it wrong and it's an app on the tab?
Thanks again! I'm hating the music situation at the moment...
I hate the stock music player and even the Google Music app because...tada..they all FC all the time. Can't even play more than one song.
I use PowerAmp, its the only music app that has ever worked for me on Android, ever !
As for tagging songs, MediaMonkey is good, but i just use iTunes.

Weird thing I was browsing the other date and I found out that there was an update for the music app but the tab never noticed me about it.
Btw it works fine for me

How are you transferring your music to your tab? I use mediamonkey on my PC to manage my music... and then from within mediamonkey I tell it to sync whatever songs or albums I want directly to the tab. I am betting your mp3 tags are getting messed up in the transfer.
Mike
Am really appeciating the help everyone, thanks!
So far still not having much luck...
I am currently trying to use MediaMonley as previously suggested. I am getting tags from the web and that works in general, but sometimes does not work. When doing this, does it alter the orig file? The process i have been using to transfer music is open up "My Music" on my PC where I thought I had things well organized by artist. Then i copy them over to the tab. Should I try syncing through MediaMonkey? How would I do this? Sorry if my questions and understanding are noob like.
Another issue I am having is in my gallery on the tab. Every track has the picture of the Album or whatever which is taking up insane amounts of storage as well just seems dumb...
Will also look into another music player as suggested.
Feel free to comment on any of this. I'm still trying to figure it out and am struggling. Makes me feel like deleting all my music to start over!!!!
Have you tried PlayerPro??
You can pick songs/albums from folders so much easier to organise.

Where to put mp3 files so they show up in Google Play Music App?

I put some mp3's in sdcard/music. They do not show up in the play music app. I hit settings, refresh, but they still don't show up.
What's the deal?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I put a fair amount of music in that same location and I got an error about one file but all the others show up and play normally.
Maybe try restarting the app? Otherwise it might be something about the files themselves that the app is having problems with.
Try am app called "SD card rescan" that a worked for me with slight patience or try rebooting it

Mine showed up eventually, the app seems to take its own sweet time finding stuff

Mine take a reboot to show up.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I have tried rebooting, turning the device off, etc. When I click on any of these mp3's, play music opens and plays the files. So the app has no problem playing these mp3's.
Obviously it's not rescanning the device.
Edit: still no joy this morning. Then I turned the device off and back on.
Now it shows up under artist, but not album. Is there some secret to making a folder so it shows up under albums?

In whatever you're using to sideload the mp3's, you can make sub-folders in the target folder. If you're connecting from a PC with USB, you can simply make folders the same way you do on your PC. I did this, and now the folder shows up in the music library.
The Android OS have a system service called the "Media Scanner" that will once in a while scan your storage for media.
I read the thread and what is been reported is two different points:
1. Sometimes it really does take a bit for the scanner to kick in and start its thing. 99% of time you reboot it does perform a full scan, so rebooting and waiting a few minutes before checking always helps.
2. the music show under artist but not album, that is to do with the MP3 tags. If you check your mp3 on Winamp or iTunes there are options to change/edit the MP3 tags, where you can set artist name, album name, year, style, album art, etc, etc... if those info are correct in the file, it will show on the player in the correct section, if it is not correct, well.. fix it, then move to your device.
hope it helps.

Well, it finally also showed up under albums. What's weird is it showed up under artists a few hours b4 it showed up under albums. What's up with that?
Another question: After copying MP3's to your device, even after they show up in the Play Music app, they do not get uploaded to your Play account?
I went out today and thought I would listen to this album on my phone. It didn't show up. Back at home, it doesn't show up on my computer's web browser when connected to my Play account. So is it a one way upload? Computer to cloud, but not mobile device to cloud?
Yep, the only way to upload is from the PC. The mobile app was never meant to do it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I put mine on Google's servers A lot easier to stream it all rather than worry about remembering to copy it to my phone and tablet.
Usually I do too. But I downloaded this album direct from the artists web site on my Nexus. Later I will connect it to my pc and copy it over.
It just seems so archaic.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I was having some similar issues, but after trying out a few different things that seemed to work for others, mine showed up. Not sure exactly what was the magic trick, but a mix of restarting, rescanning, etc. seemed to help... Thanks all!

How to Stream playlists/music etc.. ?

So I will be recieving this beauty Next week and I was looking around but cant seem to find the answer.
I wish to stream my WMP or Itunes playlists on my tablet when I am home.
I did buy a Portable HD, but not really usefull to always copy my computer playlists over it and such.
Really looking for a streaming option.
I don't know how enamored/entrenched with iTunes you are, but once i entered the android world, I moved my music over to google music. It can be streamed or downloaded to your devices via Google's music app.

Yes, though you'll need to sign up with a US proxy (just for the signup, after that you don't need to worry about it).
Also, download Skifta or some other DNLA app and you can stream shared music and movies from your network (WinXP/Vista/7/8 machines, XBox360, PS3, and more support DNLA).
EDIT: See you have an S2X...Samsung calls their DNLA client for their phones and tablets AllShare, if you've used that, Skifta does pretty much the same thing.
Yeah i got skifta using it for vids. But I found that for music it wasnt great. Just managed to sync my principl plulist on google music!looks good

You don't need US proxy for sign up, its available in the UK now. Just upload all your music to the cloud, install Google music app, play.

My only concern with Google Music is there is no offline player. If your net connection goes you loose the ability to play your music.
OK you could just navigate to the folders and play them as they are, or use something like iTunes but it kinda defeats the point

Think you missed the point. I was specifically talking about desktop support where the local hard copies of your music are stored
I don't see why it is a problem that you can play your music with any application that you would like to.
I'm confused why your desktop is even in the discussion. Google Music will let you stream music to your tablet or phone without any interaction with your desktop. You can continue to use your desktop as you do now.
If you want something that streams directly from your desktop then look into Subsonic.

Music Manager

Does anyone know of a good music manager for android? Im having two problems, the first problem is half of my music albums dont have album art, and the second problem is i have more than one icon for a single album. For example i have Trey Songs album with two different icons. one folder have half of the songs and the other folder have the other half
Try musiXmatch app from play store or the stock touchwiz player. I find these two good.
Other option is n7 player and power amp player.

If your music data itself is messed up, changing players wont necessarily fix your problems.
I highly recommend musicbrainz for cleaning up massive libraries. It fixes tags, renames files, and will structure your music on disk like itunes. From there you can push it back to your players for sheer pleasure.
Btw , this is a desktop app, not one from the android stores. And it's free.

that sounds like something i need
Sometimes it'll choke on tracks that should be common and easy to identify. Don't fret, just tell it to try again and it will generally fix itself. On really stubborn ones you may have to kickstart them by entering some of the missing data (artist, title) before it'll properly recognize them.
Good luck !
