SMB / FTP transfer much slower than it should be - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
Since I did not really find a solution to my problem thru the board search and google I thought I ask if I am the only one experiancing this troubles.
test envoirment:
- samsung galaxy note 3 (not branded - stock rom)
- ubiquiti unifi ap ac (801.11ac capable)
- es file explorer
when I do a speed test with the speedtest.net app I get good results up to 90mbits. but when I use es file explorer to transfer files from my local (lan gbit connected) nas. thru ftp or smb i dont get more than 2.5mbyte second on the transfers... is this an app related problem or a device related problem?
thanks for your help guys
cheers

Yes I have a transfer speed of 2.5 mbyte second also.

[Q] Access phone from tablet

So I just recently bought the Thrive not too long ago but I was really looking foward to accessing my phone from the tablet, unfortunately once i connect the phone through usb and enable file sharing the tablet just can't seem to discover the phone.
Has anyone gotten around this?
Have you tried Bluetooth?
That actually did work but keeps crashing the tablet, i'm pretty sure i'd be able to access the files through usb if i had an app that would simply give me the option to access the right directory.
I'm able to browse files fine through bluetooth but it's whem i transfer files that it crashes.
I'm using ES File Explorer to try this.
Try using WiFi File Explorer Pro. I have transferred 700 mb files between my Thrive and EVO 3D at Very Fast speeds! Works with zero problems.

Wow, I had given up on a solution, this solved everything!
Thank you so much!

[Q] WIFI DIRECT (= local wifi file sharing) on blade? ?

Is there any hope for having wifi file share feature on blade .
Few days ago I have seen two of my friends having Samsung galaxy note which has WIFI DIRECT. The file transfer through WIFI DIRECT is amazingly fast. My friend got 100MB transfered in around 30seconds on his galaxy note running gingerbread .
I'm wondering if this feature is hardware only or will it come to all devices sometime in the future. I think ics has APIs to it but is it hardware-only..??

You can download File Expert from Play store and use that to setup FTP and share files through wifi or network. I've used it and it is indeed very fast.
Sent from my Blade using XDA app
But what I'm talking about doesn't require internet access point to share files.
WIFI DIRECT between two phones without even having internet access to both phones. Just like Bluetooth file sharing between devices.

But then for that any one of the phones would need to be on the hotspot mode using a mobile network right?

No.
WIFI DIRECT is like local wifi file sharing without any interference of mobile networks or access point.
In file manager when we long press on file and select share , there will be option to send file via wifi direct. Then one device has to create a local wifi network and other device has to connect to same network. But it won't need mobile network or 3G or access point or any hotspot connected.

basically, this feature to share file b/w devices without any router(access point) is called WIFI DIRECT. I am not sure that this feature if fully dependent on hardware or may be software dependent but I with my brother making a very similar app whicg sends files between devices without using any access point.
It is 90% complete now and soon we will publish it in the play store (android market).
it does not require any user interpretation u just have to send file like u send through bluetooth. it gives 2.5-3.0 MBps speed.
so plzz wait for our upload and appreciate our work if like it.

Hey all the best for the work on this.
Yes my bad , the feature is WIFI DIRECT and not wifi file share. I would appreciate it.
The meaning of wifi has always something to do with internet access point which is useless for file sharing if we have a less speed internet (high speed wifi device with low speed internet where internet speed limits the transfer speed). I always wished to have wifi file transfers without the access point and haven't yet found anything similar other than the wifi direct on newer devices.
Once again all the best and im eagerly waiting for ur app.

[Q] Transfer files from PC using Wifi direct

I have wifi direct in my vaio and lenovo pc's but never successfully transfered files from them to my phone or phone to these devices using WIFI direct.
The regular wifi works fine but they are very slow.. The best so far was using Samba file sharing with speeds up to 2 MBPS
Has anyone been successfully connected your note 3 to PC via Wifi direct and transfered files
Thanks

Not. Its compatible for windows. You can transfer files pc to mobile / mobile to pc.
intrressing app but to pay for transfer files is kinda not worth it , also need to have internet for qr code so it need internet , i was more looking for an offline free one , one that an transfer files without having to scan a code just like usb/bt only via wifi direct since its faster
sutch a shame win7 don't have wifi direct options, although intel dashboard offers wifi direct but i have no clue howto send/recieve files trough it , but it does connect fine with it

I dont pay anything for transferring my files between my 3 phones(Pro vers.). -No needs to internet- it doesnt require an internet connection just needs wifi. Sometimes it gives 10-15 Mb download speed for a sec. Actually dont know much about pc to mobile, gonna check it.
With the. App I get. On regular WiFi 36Mbps and on WiFi direct 67Mbps but I can't find the pro apk witch I search for most apps since I'm rooted but its like 4x faster then USB 2.0

AirDroid?

Haven't used this in a while. If I remember correctly, app runs as a server on the phone. You can then use a browser to pull or push files from a PC.

interesting..was also looking for wifi direct transfer like windows>Android, and vice versa. Subscribed.
these apps are anoying, i mean it isnt like usb just drag and drop, to many handelings with wireless transfer, and then also bt doesn't showup into windows explorer, with the s3 i got an icon there so i can transfer small files over bt but with this device i don't get it at all eventhough its 3 generations newer

Hey. I tried to send my files with SuperBeam from windows to phone. Its quiet fast. Works good.
yes i use it to but its quite anying to startup the prog, then press send and drag drop files in it, then start app on pnone go to recieve, scan or enter code and then you get files,
i was hoping it was more easy like bt or usb, just connect and drag drop files on the path you want them but unlike my old nokia, samsung dont provide software for bt , wifi direct , its only the main prog and usb connect

Lan transfer really slow after nougat upgrade

SMB file transfer is really slow after the upgrade.
All other wifi/lan transfers are fine. (FTP/HTTP/speed test/etc)
I am trying to copy files from my home NAS server using SMB/CIFS and it is painfully slow (2-300KB/s) where as FTP transfer from same NAS server is about 9MB/s. (Using ES file explorer as well as Total commander)
There was a same complaint from users of Note 7 but it went away due to the massive recall without getting resolved.
I have T-mobile version of the S7 Edge. Can someone with different S7 edge (U version?) that can test out SMB transfers and confirm whether your transfer speed is ok?
Is there somewhere that I can complain about this bug/issue? (official Samsung forum?)
Thank you.
You already posted that in the T-Mobile section...
Can't confirm that for ES.
Over there you wrote you've a 802.11g WiFi (54 MBit/s). With that you get at best around 6 MB/s and definitely not 9 MB/s.
Hi, I've got the same problem with you, have you resolved it?
After upgrading to nougat, the smb speed is only 500KB/s, before upgrading it's around 2MB/s though.
I have the same problem on my S8. No speed at all on SMB/CIFS. My S4 get 10 times faster speeds with same configurations. same nas, router, apps, etc.
It's not only with ES, also with all others apps I tried.

Hello,
I have the same problem.
According to this thread, the error also occurs on the S8:
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...cpage/board-id/GalaxyS/thread-id/20261/page/2
Let's hope that Samsung fixes this with Android 8. Currently, I am staying with Android 6 due to this issue.
By the way, which file system are you using on your NAS? I am using XFS. Has anyone tried another file system on the NAS (for example EXT3)? I ask because I have been told that the bug occurs due to the XFS file system.
Best regards
