Hello xda,
i want to ask you a couple of things about updating my Galaxy S4 to the latest kernel.
My current kernel version is 3.4.5-526212, i want to update it to 3.4.5-768420 (probably the latest, or whatever the latest is)
So, my device is rooted. Would that create any problems?
Also, when updating the kernel, will I lose my apps and stuff like that?
And for the last, can you redirect me to any sites, threads about it? How can I update it?
If you just reply to these questions, it would be great..
Also, I want to update to the latest kernel because my current won't allow me to move apps to sd-card.
Thanks..

Go to Sammobile.com get firmware from there flash a latest firmware it will also have the latest kernal use odin to flash it no data or apps will be lost
My advise make backup of your data apps and efs for safety and then proceed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379400
EFS BACKUP Made easy with app + (Settings,Tweaks,Tools,TWRP,etc.)
Also after u flash new firmware it's recommended that u reset the device for error free experience however it's your call

Alright, so I won't be losing my apps, right? I don't mind losing them, i can install them all over again thats not really a problem but, i would rather just them to stay then installing them all over again. Anyways, I'll be using Odin right? And as long as I have the right region code and stuff, my phone won't brick right? Or is there a risk? Will it be just like rooting so? I'm sorry that I'm asking too many questions, just new to Android and still tring to understand the way things work..
Hey, I also have a problem. My phone's CSC code says "I9500OJVAMDK", this means my region code is OJV right? Well, here is a problem, I can't seem to find any firmwares for "OJV" region, what can I do now? (The phone came from another country, I have no idea which). Or just help me out with it,
Baseband: I9500XXUAMDK
Build number: DJQ39.I9500XXUAMDK
CP & AP: I9500XXUAMDK
CSC: I9500OJVAMDK
I'm stuck. So what is my region code? Is it OJV? or XX? Or in other terms, can I install any firmware that has XX in it? Help, anyone
Thanks
You can flash rom from any other region without bricking or losing your apps and stuff.
I myself bought a gs4 from PAK region and I have moved between regions to INU & THL. So no worries there.

Really? Oh man, thanks alot... I really care for my phone and bricking it accidentally would kill me.. Thanks
I finally did it. Thanks alot guys.. I can't believe how easy that was! I freaking love Android!!! If this was iPhone, delete everything, copy all of them again, mess with the freaking iTunes, install all the apps, and it would take a freaking hour just to install 1,5 gb os file. 2,5 gb md5 file installed in just less than 15 minutes.. Wow man... :fingers-crossed:

Couldn't agree more.. Xda really is the greatest smartphone forum.. I'm just glad that i got rid of iPhone.. I'm not even looking back.. Hell, I couldn't even download a small file without jailbreak, even if so, it was really weak... Can't believe some people are still defending iOS over Android, coming with stuff like "iOs is faster, etc. etc..". Just excuses. Well maybe because iOs is easy for their lazy brains. No errors, no problems, no worrys. Well, let them fools do whatever they want, it's their money they are spending, and it's their brain that they are not using.. Android is so much better for me
Welcome to the note 3 forums. We welcome you as long as you do your job and search before making 1,000,000 new threads.
So,You just got your shiny new note 3 and dont know where to begin?
Well that's ok because, this is the all in one thread.
Lets begin
How do I Root?
That is the common question around here. Im going to simplify this.. Here you go
For 4.3
1.The best and safest way is this method by @evilpotatoman. It does require a little work but in return you do get root Here is the link for That,
2.Another method that is faster, but does not offer busybox with install, nor did it originate from XDA-forums is Here,
For 4.4 Or KitKat
You have to Go to My thread located
Here,
This does root KitKat and provides a custom ROM.
How Do I Install Custom Rom's
First What you should know is that our phone has a locked bootloader. This means that we can not boot kernels. But we still can flash custom rom's Thanks to @Hashcode
To install custom rom's on 4.3, Head over Here,
Another method That i originally created, but does not work as good as safestrap, could be found Here
If you are on KitKat, Then you could either install my KitKat rom or wait for safestrap to be updated.
What Do I Do If I Bricked My Phone? Or if it wont boot?
Well There are 2 methods to get you back to stock and running again.
To Restore back to Jellybean (4.3) Follow this Thread Here
To Restore back to KitKat (4.4.2) Follow this Thread Here
Why are Rom's Based off different Bases & Whats the difference?
A little basic intro
MJ5,MI9 & MI1 Are all 4.3 AT&T Bases
Ml2 Is an international 4.3 Base
MlG is a leaked AT&T 4.4.2 Base
Mj5 Is the latest 4.3 AT&T Base
Ml2 Is the latest international Base
The difference depends on what you need. Right now There are pro's and con's to all bases
Mj5
-Fast Data speeds
-Better indoor Signal
-No Bluetooth internet tethering
Ml2
-NO group messaging
-lower signal in areas
-slower data
-Does have Bluetooth internet tethering
Leaked Kitkat base (MIG)
-Extremely fast
-Newer modem with better signal & speeds
-Safestrap is not yet updated to work with kitkat (But you could still install my 4.4 ROM)
Why is my GPS Crappy and How do i fix it?
This issue is well known with our phone. The main reason is bad software coding.
To fix this issue Flash this fix made by me, in safestrap or manually push the files using root explorer.
4.3-Click Here
4.4-(Coming Soon)
What is "SafeStrap & Why do i have to use it?
Safestrap is our main method of flashing Rom's and could be found Here,
Always WIPE before flashing a new ROM or expect to receive errors. DON'T BE LAZY
Issues with safestrap
-Sometimes the storage is messed up and shows that you are using all your memory, when you really are not.If you use a different app to check, then you should see your real memory usage.
Where are all the kernels located?
Like i stated earlier, We don't have kernels yet, because of our locked bootloader
Where are all the Roms compatible with my phone?
All compatible and ready to install rom's could be found Here
There is currently NO AOSP,CM Based Rom's, So don't ask
What is KNOX and how does it effect me?
KNOX is basically made to **** us. But Samsung calls it security.
KNOX is removed from most custom Rom's. Knox does prevent root apps from working properly and should be removed asap.
How do I transfer My bookmarks from ROM to ROM?
Follow the guide i created Here
Im still working on a list of roms, and cool mods that are compatible with our phone. they will be located in the second post.Mods please sticky this thread
For me, to post mods and roms compatible with our phone
one more
Great information.
Thank you very much.
I have tried your KitKat 4.4.2. Glad to see it is rooted!
Now, it is easy to switch between MJ5 4.3 and MLG 4.4.2 through SafeStrap and Odin.
Wow very nice! Hopefully this will prove helpful.

Awesome work. Me personally Im waiting for SS to be updated but definitely keeping an eye out.
Im curious on one thing. When you discuss Knox and to 'remove it', would freezing this via TB server the same purpose? Also since youve had a go with 4.4, does Samsungs iteration of 4.4 still have the GPS issues or did they fix it? Just curious
Thanks!

Wanting to down grade back to JB rom from KITKAT v2
I Used to be on JB rom 4.3 And I really liked it. But I wanted to upgrade to to KitKat v2 because alot of people said they liked it. After I upgraded to KITKAT 4.4.2 I really did not enjoy it as much JB 2.6. I used to get 35000 score from Antutu Benchmark but now on V2 I get about 30000 score. And I thought the JB 2.6 was setup nicer. I dunno, but what I do know is that I would like to go back to JB 2.6 because I think it was a nicer piece of work. Anyone know where I can find the tutorial to downgrade back to JB 2.6? I thought I seen it before but I cant seem to find it. Thank you for your time.

Hey guys, I have Note 3 SM-N9005. Android version is 4.3 (Israeli stock Rom, still no update for that).
Current firmware is something that ends with CSC:MJ4. I tried to update to NF4 using Kies 3 but there is some kind of error that prevents me from doing so. The error occurs when download of firmware components gets to about 70%. It happened several times now.
My device is completely stock, and I like to root it. Should I try to solve the firmware update issue before rooting? Is there an easy way to root without voiding KNOX? I tried to search information in the forum but haven't managed to completely understand what should I do.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Use ODIN to flash Original Samsung Firmware

Hi Itay,
Not that I am an expert by any measure, however I have been quite successful (and lucky!) with flashing my Note 3 (so far) and previously with my S2. There is so much good information on XDA, provided by people who really what they are doing and are willing to share their knowledge, work and help us 'users' (as opposed to developers) out.
That said, I hope (expect) that a more experience member will correct me if I'm wrong, it should be possible to flash an original Samsung ROM via ODIN. Browse around on XDA, and you will find the files and instructions you need. There are many good tutorials available, and you need to read up on whether you will lose all your data (very likely!), and whether you will trip KNOX 0x1, which I understand you can avoid using Samsung original files. For me personally, I don't require KNOX to interface at work, so am using a custom ROM, which tripped KNOX to 0x1.
Good luck, and I hope you figure out how to update your device without issues.
That's part of my problem, there is so much information that I kind of get lost in it, and don't manage to understand what exactly I should do.

Read into the Odin method - You can flash software version of your choice, without the risk of voiding KNOX and keeping a completely stock device (if you choose to)
Just switched to metropcs and got myself a SM-G530T1. I have searched for an hour for a working root to this rom... with no success. I also discovered there is no ODIN flashable firmware available for download.
I am aware there is a method that works by ODIN flashing the firmware of T-Mobile SM-G530T [AOF8] and then rooting with ShinySides [AOF8] kernal... but doing this removes some native functionality and adds t-mobile bloat ware.
So I am looking for either a working Temp root or Perm root for the SM-G530T1 [AOH9], Android 5.1.1, Baseband: G530T1UVU1AOH9.
And then I will be working on creating a ODIN flashable backup firmware of this version for others. Just need help with step one.. rooting.

so i bought this phone about 3 months ago (SM-G530T1) and i bricked it 3 days after i bought it by installing busybox un-rooted. still not sure how that happened but that is not the point, the point is i flashed the only stock firmware i could find (at the time) and it just so happened to be a mis-marked T-mobile firmware package. i didn't let it bother me though and continued to gain root and flashed ShinySides [AOF8]. It worked like a charm! I was just running T-mobile FW on a MetroPCS phone and it just got confusing if you have to call costomer service lol. so i made sure it worked in every way and removed all the bloatware. the only problem i had was with the hotspot feature, it had a mind of its own and that got annoying but i dont really use it that often so i could live with that. the phone was a champ! so i went to find a recovery or twrp. i was looking and found TWRP 2.8.7.0...it was not for the SM-G530T1 but it sorta worked and when i say sorta i mean it does pretty much everything you want it to do except BACK UP FILES! Lol! (at least for me anyways) so i ran that with the T-Mobile software for a few months until lastnight... see I didnt know about the failure to back up my files issue so you have to understand that i fully expected the TWRP Backup files to work and last night when i went to restore one of the BUps it informed me that i had no OS anymore !! oh man i wanted to puke! Upon further inspection i realized that it was only backing up about 20% of my system only and i should have noticed but i didn't expect that and that is how we learn the difference between knowledge and wisdom right? OK so at that point i had a bricked phone (MY DAILY DRIVER i might add) and i was not to happy to lose all my personal info either, so i went back on XDA to see what i could do. i was very pleased to see that there was now a working MetroPCS Package compliments of TSAR3000 and I went to work. I flashed it via Oden and was happy to see the familiar MetrPCS logo again, but i needed to re-root it so i used the ShinySides [AOF8] just to see if it would worked with the metro Firmware and it did! it trips KNOX but i could care less cause i dont want that crap anyways and i get rid of it right away lol. I debated if i sould put this next part in the message but i decided i would because people should be weary of programs and roots applications and remember that this is the true reason we root and unlock our phones to begin with... so Im not a paranoid person by nature but i dont trust King root or any of those one click apps companies because of some article i read a while back about how the Chinese root apps and downloads could possibly contain spyware but i never found any truth to it but from what i do know about the Chinese government i dont take the chance but its my opinion and i like the good old fashion (though a little more involved) flashing of SuperSU or whatever you like. So yes if you want to use ShinySides root procedure do it cause it works with metro just fine. Good luck.

Damn. So no real reliable root for the SM-G530T1 without using T-Mobile firmware?
I just bought it today assuming it would be as easy as all the other Samsungs I've owned in the past.
Just make sure your oem unlock is marked (YES) In developers options. This means your phone can be unlocked to flash firmware or recoveries and such... this is not to be confused with carrier unlocked though. This should help with the frp problem. as far as the "flashing of firmware through odin" the firmware that is available for the metropcs variant is designed to be odin flashable exclusively. If it isn't working than either you have an a faulty firmware package or a firmware pacage that I'm not aware of.

I assume no replies mean there is still no safe way to root? Any other way to get rid of unwanted carrier and Google apps?

if you want to root it still just download SM-G530T1 A0H9 stock firmware ill send you the link if you need it, download stock firmware you have now for backup, download the stock firmware for the SM-G530T A0F8 and the root kernel for the SM-G530T here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/gr...l-root-root-sm-g530t-5-1-1-t3203476?nocache=1 you will also need the newest version of odin to do this. So first flash the A0H9 stock firmware and then the A0F8 firmware to change it to t-mobile and then that root kernel and you should be fine. If you run into any problems flash the stock firmware you had when you started.
Thanks for the reply. I managed to root the phone a couple of months ago but it did not do me that much good. I still can't delete the unwanted carrier and Google apps, and I can't get apps to download automatically to the SD card instead of the device. Is there any way to get rid of the bloatware?

im quite new to this and so I ended up rooting my phone and now cant use wifi
Hey folks, I've been here (on XDA) a long time and used to be knee deep in understanding rooting and flashing ROMs, but it's literally been 4 years since I've been around, and I need to upgrade my current Note 3 (Verizon) to Android 5 (if Android 5 runs well on it) OR I need to simply root my Note 3 so I can flash a faster moving ROM.
It's been awhile, I looked at the stickies, and while I still understand the "language", I don't get the process.
Can anyone help me out and point me to only the tried and true methods of either upgrading to Android 5 (off Carrier, I have the phone on Cricket now) OR on how to root and flash a new ROM? (and which ROM is simply a good, fast, stable ROM)
Many thanks for any and all help!

Presuming you are on a pure stock Verion Note 3 (but using a Cricket SIM)... THEN you can go get the last OS/Firmware release for Verizon from sammobile.com (you have to be a member to download.. But membership is free). The release is OF1 and is Lollipop (Android 5.0)
You'll need Odin to Flash it from a PC.

With Stock... Yes, OB6 had issues, OF1 seemed to have fixed them. The firmware on sammobile.com is not an OTA, so you will/should wipe data first, then reload your apps. At the least.. Factory reset before you flash via Odin.
