Internal storage left pop-up - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have this pop-up ( https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3kAm0MqKUNzcEVSYTdYSjdJcnc/edit?usp=sharing ) I want to turn it off, because it annoys me, when apps update it keeps disturbing me, pauses apps, gets in front of screen, really annoying when you have 10 apps that need to update, can't use the phone normally at that time.
Anyone know if this is System related or is it an app doing this, and can you disable it? I don't remember having it before, I don't think that I did.

and clean the junk files.
btw - you have 8gb or 16gb?

Do you have ES File Explorer installed. There exists a bug. If you do, make sure you have display low space error unticked in display settings. For some people, it still displays. It is supposed to be fixed in the next release.

I had that App once, but it deleted local data from one game and I had to re-download it to be able to use cloud back-up, good thing I had that.
I have difficulties with lack of free space with 16gb, I can't imagine how bad it is with 8gb, I have to keep my iPod because my Nexus doesn't have enough space for all the music.

I do, indeed. I thought it might be that app, I checked 3 times for all the settings at the app to see if there is not a feature that might make the pop-up.
I have it unticked already, so I guess I will have to wait for the update. Thanks!

Constant systemui FCs?

Does any one else experience constant FCs with the systemui process? I get it nearly every single time I use tweetdeck. Rarely in other places. It's a pain because the notification bar with its softkeys vanish and requires a hard reboot.

you on the emmc or a SD card?
if the sd card, what kind do you have?

Sorry, don't use MUI so have no clue, but you might want to put that in the thread title so people using it read it.....
Have you tried fixing permissions? That usually fixes force close problems.

I am not using MUI. Where'd you get that from?
It's on the sd card, samdisk 8g class 4 (I did my homework), and I did try running the fix_permissions, but for some reason tweetdeck still throws an FC say half the time.

I saw systemui in the title so I misinterpreted that to mean you were using MUI.
What version of Tweetdeck are you using? The current version in the market is 1.0.7.3 and one of the updates is "fix rare crashes". I also note it reads the phone state, which we do not have. Has this ever worked on your Nook? You could try modifying the permissions by turning that part off.

I'm using the latest version of TweetDeck. I keep the market apps updated when they become available.
TweetDeck works great on the Nook, it's just half the time I enter it, I get a systemui FC (which is the notification bar). Once that happens, I lose the soft-keys and my notification bar. There's no way to do "back", "menu" or any of that then. End up having to restart the nook to get the softkeys/noti-bar back. When the systemui FCs, everything else works fine - tweetdeck still does its thing, i am just now missing my notibar/softkeys at the bottom. The NC continues to operate fine (I can go to the N/home button and continue using the screens, the app drawer, etc - just lost my noti/softkeys).
SOMETIMES, the system reloads it. Maybe 5% of the time when it FCs the systemui - about 2 seconds later it magically re-appears.
No other app or action on the NC gives me this crash, so I'm not entirely sure what is causing it. If I was getting random FCs elsewhere, I'd start thinking the SD card - but for all intents and purposes, the thing runs solid on the card. I use it for Netflix, DLNA apps to control my laptop and blu-ray players, Angry Birds, N64 and SNES ROMs, Google Music beta - and it's all champs.
Something about TweetDeck, though, is causing this silly systemui crash on me.
I've never had any other issues with apps that read "phone state" (and assumed that its that reason why we still have dialer and phone apps installed on our builds, so those apps won't crash).
Heck, I don't even freeze anything - it's a base CM7 install, no special tweaks. I even tried installing the Notification Restart app which is supposed to restart the notification bar - and that doesn't do a damned thing.

No, the reason is that CM7 was developed to run on a lot of different platforms so we get everything whether it is needed or not. I'm not saying it will work, but try killing the phone permissions.

CM7 is, yes - the specific ports, no. The Nook Color CM7 build (encore) keeps the camera, phone, etc - in there because some market apps, and market themselves won't work without them.

Get rid of "low on space" icon?

Hello,
Simple question: I have over 18mb left on my Legend, but still the "low on space" icon is in my menu bar all the time. I moved all the possible apps to the sd card. Anyway to remove the icon?
The icon dissapear when free space more 20 mb.
Even if you could get rid of it, you shouldn't just leave it low on space. Critical sync functions are disabled when low on space, like Gmail sync if that's your primary e-mail client.
Install one of the custom roms, you will have more memory to play with.

I wish I could but downgrading and rooting a HTC Legend seems like a very difficult job. I tried a few times, but with no success :'(
Interesting development:
I did a factory reset on the phone and installed all the same apps (via app2sd) and now I have over 60 mb of free space. And a better working phone.

Updates are available weirdness

When I get the message up in the notification area that "Updates are available".
It seems to display something along the lines of "Updates are available &amp&n&p".
Or something along those lines. What the hell is the rubbish after available all about? It's driving me nuts.
And it doesn't take much to drive me nuts let me tell you
Between the update message weirdness and the Unfortunately gaaps has stopped crap whenever I boot back up etc. Arghh. And don't get me started on the remote restore function using ADB which doesn't seem to work anymore since the latest update.
OK rant over But seriously. What's up with the "Updates are available" message?
I did perform a factory reset BTW. Which is when I found out remote restore seems to be broken.
Cheers

it means that you have some apps that have updates available in the play store. you can turn off the notification in the play store settings, then they wont bug you.
I knew what the message meant I just don't know what the rest of the gobbledygook is after the word available.

How do you have a device with a simple native way to take a screen shot.. And not post one as an example of the "gobbledygook" in question for us to look at?
I have tried to get a screen shot. But just like most other notifications. It's gone before you grab it.

when you did the factory reset.. Did you do this in custom recovery or in settings on the tablet.. Are you stock ?
Did you use anything to restore your apps such as ti backup adb restore (does not always work).
If you are on a custom rom or have been in the past.. I would suggest you do a FULL Format of your tablet system cache dalvic DATA and all...reboot the tab back into recovery adb push stock new downloaded rom to tab or use usb otg and flash brand new rom... Then see if you still have issues.. DO NOT RESTORE A BACKUP you could be putting the issues back on device..
The way the NO SD Card devices use data. you can have issues linger from a older rom or pop up after flashing.
Be CAUTIOUS ABOUT DELETING DATA ON This device. IT WILL WIPE A DOWNLOADED ROM.. and otg storage with twrp or adb push will be required to get a rom back on device to flash..
Good Luck..
No mate. Just on rooted stock.
I initiated the restore from within settings I believe.
I did two backups originally just in case.
One from ADB and one from My Backup Pro.
It backed up fine using ADB. When restoring it, I had the initial quick reboot. Then when I had the restore my data screen on the Nexus, I hit the Restore button and the Nexus rebooted back to the home screen.
The PC restore was running, but nothing got restored.
I then gave up and restored using My Backup Pro.
But after restoring everything. I keep getting the Gaaps has stopped message.
So time to backup my games and wipe again in the future.
I'll then restore everything else direct from the Play Store, to hopefully get rid off the Google Apps problem.
As for the weird symbols after the Updates are available message, they have been there since 4.2.1 though.
Looks like I'm putting up with this.
I'll grab it on a screen grab eventually
Cheers.

It does sound like there is something in your backups that is stopping them from restoring.. Make sure when you restore a backup you are restoring APPS AND APP DATA ONLY.. not system data and system apps.. Such as google apps being system apps.. This often restores old data on top new and causes big issues. With the fcs really sounds like this is the case..
I Think a Good WIPE and Fresh flash will help you out...
Good Luck ..

OK, just to add to this, I saw exactly this "updates available amp&n&p" notification this evening . . . . but on my HTC One X, which is stock, unrooted.
The apps updating are: -
ConvertPad
HDWidgets
SoundHound
WhatsApp
Facebook
Doubt its related, but the WhatsApp update bugged out. That was probably my 3g connection though, which is patchy round here.

It seems my suspicions were correct concerning the &amp&anp or whatever it is that gets displayed at the end of the Updates are available message you get in the notifications are from the Play Store.
I noticed that my Samsung Galaxy S3 is showing the same thing.
It's gotta be a Play Store bug.
Because my S3 is running 4.11 and my Nexus 7 is running 4.2.1.
It almost looks like variables not getting parsed correctly.
As this only happens when there is more than one update available it seems.
And both my devices are on different versions of Jelly Bean.
And I still can't grab the screen fast enough. As you never know when the updates notifications from the Play Store will appear.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Why are the notifications not staying in the drop down?
Do you have the market Set to auto update, otherwise I have to hit the notification in order to open the store.
Unless you aren't talking about the notification area but the the ticker in the status bar up top?

'Internal Storage Left' message

On both my Nexus 4 & Nexus 7 running latest factory Jellybean I have noticed that whenever I update an app using the Google play store I get a little popup message saying 'Internal Storage Left' and then a number that is only a couple of MB.
Both my devices have quite a few GB free so I am wondering what this means, where it is coming from and how to stop it.
Cheers

After careful examination of the logs, I noticed that it's ES File Explorer's fault. Uninstall it, and you will be fine.
I hate this software anyway, terrible UI, and now spamming with Toasts.

But ES is a great file explorer, just change the toast setting
There is no setting for this in ES File Explorer.
In fact there is, but it's disabled. And I get the toast every time I install/uninstall an app.
I won't uninstall ES. It's by far the best file explorer and includes music player, apk backup, cloud clients... A must have. I have to admit the UI is very ugly but who cares.
If there is another file explorer that can back up apk I might switch from ES File Explorer, but so far I haven't found any. And the alternative apps that back up APK I've tried don't rename them properly like ES File Exporer. Super Backup and Helium does it, but they also backup the app data in conjunction.
Don't worry about that message. I ignore it now. Sometimes it pops up and sometimes it doesn't. I have esExplorer as well. But am not gonna uninstall it just cause of some glitch.
Sent from my neXus⁴ using Tapatalk 2
I actually think it's pretty useful, wouldn't mind it implemented into a custom rom feature.
You can stop Es File Explorer from announcing it simply uncheck "Show notifications" in Settings -> Apps, or Greenify it.

Getting weird system pop-up, please help

I had this on my old Z1, and now I have a note 4 and it's on it as well... Every few days I get a pop-up on my phone with a Chinese word (screen shot will be added), and despite all my efforts with anti-virus / anti-malware apps, it persists. I found nothing on it online... I used Google translate to try to make sense of this pop-up, all it says is " 堰" which translates into "weir". I used es file Explorer to search my entire phone for that Chinese word, it came up with nothing. I deleted all apps that I thought were suspicious, and still nothing. Could someone help me with this? It's driving me insane. Thank you.
Could it be an app that you had both on your z1 and have it on your new device as well? How about doing a factory reset and then if your problem persists? The only logical course I can think of is to install your apps incrementally and seeing when this starts again. Also, try to keep unknown sources and verify apps on under security. Hope that leads you in the right direction.
I've deleted almost all third party apps, did a factory reset, even flashed a new ROM from sammobile... It still happens. This problem started when I put my old memory card from my Z1 on the note 4. But I've switched it for a new one, and flashed the new ROM after that (and wiped data, and cache), and still no luck. I'm beginning to think it may have been a virus that implants itself to system files or something... I'm a noob though, I need some developer brain power for this
It could be a message from your SIM card or network.

Yes I agree with Jimmyness. Go get a new SIM card, assuming you moved the SIM from your old phone. You've changed everything else.
Alright, I'll give it a shot and let you guys know... Thanks
