Can not wipe cache partition - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I got locked out of my Samsung galaxy s4 sprint version. So I was successful with wipe data/ factory reset. By volume up+home+power. But I get an error when I try to wipe cache partition. How to I go about this? And secondly I have enabled USB debugging in the developer options and tried to root my phone but can not get android adb interface to install. Any help will be appreciated.

what error are you getting when trying to wipe cache partition? go to sammys site and dl all your files from them, odin in a new recovery and flash SU. i know its not the approved wonder method but ive never had issues doing it this way.......if you dont want to do it like that try CF autoroot. works like a charm. heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257101 be sure to thank the OP and follow all instructions to the T.

The little green robot just gets a red triangle and it says error at the bottom. I can't seem to get adb drivers to install. Windows xp

are you just plugging in your phone or are you doing the install from samsung site? all the drivers you need for this to work are there. check and make sure that the computer registers the device via device manager before you start......dont want you bricking your phone.

What build are you on? You might want to just flash a one click package and be done with it, at least that will force a new cache image on top of whatever was there.

I'm on build number JDQ39.L720VPUAMF9
And I'm having problems with adb.
I have enabled Developer Options & USB Debugging but when I connect my phone to my desktop running xp the phone connects as Media Device MTP or Camera PTP and not usb debugging.

have you tried connecting it to your pc via linux? since it doesn't need usb drivers to connect, you may be able to flash recovery via terminal then.

I have a Nexus 4 in front of me with a diagonal crack from top left to bottom right corners of the screen.
The touch screen only responds on the upper half of the phone.
I have been tasked with getting the images, videos, music etc. from this phone, however as I am unable to unlock the phone I am finding it pretty difficult!
Is there any way to get the data from the phone using either software or hardware hacks?
I know there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum, any information is appreciated, even if I have to open up the phone and start cutting wires!
Thank you,
- Pano
Yes there is quite a single way to do it using ADB on your computer. Do you have that set up?

OK I installed ADB and Fastboot.
I downloaded the custom Nexus 4 recovery from Clockwork Mod.
Booted the phone into Fastboot mode
Found the phone with ADB, tried to run the recover image... the phones LOCK STATE is LOCKED
How do I get past this!?
- Pano
EDIT:
It seems your bootloader is locked. NRT will unlock it but it will wipe your data. And a locked bootloader won't allow ADB (correct me if i'm wrong)
Try doing a factory reset through Recovery, it should get rid of the lock screen and allow you to transfer stuff through USB. I never tried to so i'm not sure will it work

Hi.
Is the device still under guarantee?
If not, you maybe can open the device and get the storage out of it, if there's no other way. First try it with this program, if you give up and there's no other way, (sorry to say this) you must do that.
Or try this:
Connect your phone to the charger
Reboot it
And start in safe mode (somehow, if you're able to do.)
...or replace the screen!
I'm so sorry for you, that something like that happened.
I hope you to manage to rescue your data somehow.
I also know the bitter feeling of data loss ;(
I hope this helped.
OK just to keep all updated and in case anyone ever uses this post in the future to help them...
I have tried everything, nothing worked as it either involved use of the touch screen at some point, or required me to have previously turned USB DEBUGGING on... I have come up with a new solution :
Using the ADB I will unlock the phone using the command
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
This will WIPE all the data from the phone, however it will allow me to finally install a custom recovery mod.
I am then going to find a way to connect the phone to the computer, clone the internal memory to a virtual hard drive and then use some recovery software to get back all the data that was "erased" when I unlocked the oem
Hopefully :fingers-crossed:....
I'll keep the thread updated

This will only work, if the Computer has FULL ACCESS to the file system.
The best Data-Recovery Program is IsoBuster by Peter van Hoove.
...and also, it's not just normal deleting but WIPING, so recovery chance is very low.
...Nexus 4 ALWAYS makes god-damn' problems: RedLight of Death, No MicroSD, Data Loss because of Google's Locked Bootloader.
My Advice The Next time you buy a Device with Android - Unlock the bootloader to avoid further problems.

You could reboot the phone into recovery and connect the phone to the computer. You could then mount the USB storage onto the computer and simply copy paste the zip into the storage. Although I'm not up to date with the features of the current TWRP, but the mount USB storage option was present in a previous version of it. I dunno whether it's still there or not, but still worth a try.
Thanks a lot! it worked

You will be fine I wipe my internal from time to time. Just make sure you update your bootloader and vendor. If you use the flash all I'm pretty sure it's done for you but if using fastboot method follow the steps in the hiesenberg guide. Just so you know once on the latest Oreo builds from what I've read can no longer downgrade. I haven't verified or read up on it myself but maybe look into if you think you might want to go back to nougat .

i have tried that earlier, but still i got the red triangle.
since i failed to go to stock today i installed latest twrp-3.2.2-0-angler using latest SDK tool.
then i flashed Magisk-v16.0 and then ResurrectionRemix-M-v5.7.4-20161008-angler and it immediately went to google logo and stuck there.
just use this to get back to stock https://developers.google.com/android/images
all you do is boot in to fast boot plug into pc and run flash all
there are ways to save data but you already wiped so no need
if your still confused just look up a guide of how to flash factory images and install the usb drivers

It looks good but didn't seem to flash radio and bootloader maybe just not in screen shot should boot but if it still won't boot in to the stock recovery and factory reset might help
You could have the bad big cores try flashing one of the 4 core fixes. Also I wait to flash magisk until after first boot. It can hang you on the Google screen .

Galaxy J5 (2017) stuck in recovrey mode.

Hi. During the update to Android 10 the phone turned off and after switching on it goes into recovery mode.
The phone is not mine and this description was provided to me by the owner of the phone. I was unable to see the phone directly because of the quarantine, so as a first solution I thought about a restore via odin. Has anyone had this problem? And is there a less drastic way than Odin to solve? Because the owner has some data that he would prefer not to lose.

How did you get android 10 on j530f?
I get the same messages when I enter recovery but I'm able to get out. You could use odin to reflash the firmware but keep all the data.
You won't be able to do a thing with Odin if the device doesn't have an unlocked bootloader and USB debugging enabled which I doubt it has seeing as it's a stock update that was attempted.
What happens to the device once plugged into a PC? Is the data corrupt or is the device recognized and files can be seen?
I have the same problem with almost the same recovery messsges. It also says dm verity failed. Odin and samsung 300k tool both dont work.

Hi, the details were given to me by another person, the only thing that I (and this person knows) is that the phone during an update has turned off and reboots in the attached image window.
Thanks for the tips, I will report it to the person concerned, hoping that he can install the twrp.

Put the j5ylte update onto sd card.
Get the update from updato or sammobile or somewhere.
Then reboot stock recovery and apply update from sd card. Or sideload it using adb on a computer. Not very complicated at all
Install the stock rom like i described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/help/to-stock-rom-t4099857
