Buggy Compass - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When using maps or some other app which points in the direction I'm looking toward, its always pointing about 90* clockwise.
Anyone else have this bug?

+1
I have this same problem too.

Just tests it out on my D802. Google map seemed to be working fine. The arrows does point straight towards my direction. Turning the phone left and right seemed correct too.

Could your compass have gotten magnetized? Happens on the og RAZR sometimes. The fix was to touch a magnet to the upper right corner for a second to release it. Someone found it out after looking at a device teardown.

The stock window case has a magnet in it, so if you have that on the phone it would explain your problem.

Thank you! That seems to fix it for now. I was going to return it to ATT.

g2/mac problem?

My Macbook Pro goes straight to sleep mode when I place my G2 on the bottom left corner of my laptop (touching the "fn" and "control" keys). Then it turns back on when I remove the G2. Anyone else has this problem? Or knows what is going on?
It's a magnet that is activated to sleep your MAC. I have macbook
and I never did that to it but that's what is happening

Really???
That's pretty cool. Ill try it when I get home.. although I have the pro so the sensor might be in a differnt location.

Ill have to try then out when I fix my ibook charger. But yea its because of the build in compass on the g2

Yup.. It happens with the MB pro too!!
Doesn't happen to me.. maybe its my case that stops it

[Q] Major sensor issue!

Well I just replaced my arias digitizer, all works well besides making and receiving calls. My screen will turn black and be unresponsive, I can be heard by the other person but on my end my phone is unresponsive. I would have to take out the battery to get it to respond, which is ridiculous. This has been an issue for many people and I want to get to the bottom of it. All help is welcomed, thank you.
There is a tiny rubber cover for the proximity sensor that needs to be there for it to work properly. It is easy to lose when you replace the screen.

Currently I am messing with it and I've tried many things. Could you possibly describe it, much appreciated.

It is a little rubber thing, square on one side and round on the other, with a hole through it. It fits over the proximity sensor to focus it through the round window on the glass.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Well apparently I must have put my earpiece in wrong too and I can't hear anything during a call. Many thanks if you can tell me how it goes in.

I resolved the speaker issue. now its just the damn sensor, i cant wake from calls :/. To be exact, what does the proximity sensor look like and which tiny window does it "see" through?
Right next to the speaker are two little sensors. The closest to the speaker is the proximity sensor and the other one is the light sensor. Above these on the glass are two round windows.

If you search around on here, someone posted a hack for disabling the proximity sensor. This will enable you to make calls, but you will obviously lose the sensor function.

I have seen that thread about disabling it, I'm trying to keep that as very last resort. Well does the sensor look like a tiny little chip?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Yes, it has a little circular 'eye' on it.

Thank you. I'll continue to mess with it. Btw, what do you know about the gingerbread development? Anything about the aria?

The Cyanogen people are working on it as we speak.

Phantom touchs

I've been dealing with a phantom touch issue with my shift. Pefectly centered in on the botto of the screen where it hits the phone button in sense. Its looking like a hardware issue.
My question is, has anybody else experienced this and has anybody dealt with taking a rooted phone back to sprint for service?
Thoughts?

I had a weird issue where an area (the left side of the screen 2mm strip) on the touchscreen didn't work at all. I used the one zip RUU back to stock and brought it in and they gave me a new slider (whole top portion). Just happened 2 weeks ago.
I have bad problems with that and screen protectors, especially when it's really hot and humid (like everyday here in tampa)

At first I thought it was the screen protector, but the problem persisted after I stopped using them. And then I thought it was a bad rom or rom install, so I tried 3 different ones with no change. So ill just update myself to the OTA GB and take it in for service.

Did the rooted update to GB and it seems to have gotten rid of the phantom touch issue. I ended up having to do a factory reset when I did it, so maybe that helped. Glad I don't have to deal with customer support now. There always seems to be a line when I go in.

Just want to say you're not alone, this happened once temporarily on my G2. It made pressing the "s" and "a" keys on the on-screen keyboard almost impossible!

Screen problem

I have problem with the screen, whenever my finger sweats, the screen goes haywire. Any solution on this.

Capacitive touch screens detect anything that is conductive so it will register water/sweat/kool-aid. You just have to keep your fingers dry.

But I have been using phones like, galaxy s, s2, milestone, milestone 2, and some other phones. I have this kind of problem when using x10 and atrix only.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I think it's more of a software thing, Motorola uses some sort of "liquid detection" (or something like that) on their phones which pretty much causes issues. Add that with the "multi-touch" bug the Atrix has then it just becomes a big mess. The Atrix will register moisture on the screen as a "touch" and then if it stays like that for 10 or 12 seconds then the screen goes bonkers.

Well my situation isn't related to wet fingers or moisture.
I don't think it is a matter of software bug either as its always the exact same area.
My last test was to use the Touch Test app and when I run my finger across the screen and it detects touch all the way across except a vertical strip from top to bottom. For instancr I can't use letters w, e, s, z when in portrait mode.

Screen 'color spill/leak' issue.

Hi all,
I'm not sure what to call this issue and I haven't seen it before, please point me in the right direction if it's elsewhere, I honestly am not sure what to search for.
I noticed today that I suddenly have this odd "leak" of color in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Sort of a small patch of orange. Tried to take a photo with my Nexus 4 but it's quite hard to make out on camera. Any idea what this is? Is it definitely hardware? Reckon it can be returned? I haven't done anything to cause the issue.

They seem like semi stuck pixels.. try a pixel fixer from the market and see what happens.

Thanks for that, forgot to reply at the time but it seemed to help/fix it but it's returned now and doesn't seem to be helping.
I'll leave it a while see what happens before flashing new stuff, it it's still there I guess I'll try return it.
