So I just purchased a 64GB MicroSDXC card and put it in my Galaxy S4. It read the card perfectly as a 64GB card out of the box at first. However, I formatted the card through the phone and then it said it was only 32GB. I've tried reformatting again and again on my phone, Windows 7 PC, and Macbook Pro. However, I can't get it to register as a 64GB card again. I've read various posts on this forum and tried all the different formatting utilities, but am still struggling. I'm almost to the point where I'm just going to say that 32GB is enough and deal with not having the full 64GB. Any help would be appreciated. Any idea why this is?

Download this FAT32 Formatter and remove the 64GB card from your phone.
Plug the 64GB sdcard into your computer with an adapter or card reader: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/FAT32format-Download-79375.html
Then format the 64GB card and put it back in your phone and the 64GB sdcard will work fine
and will have approximately 60gb free space on it.
Do NOT format the card using your phone.
If it still shows 32GB after doing the above, you need to return the card and exchange it for one which works properly
Good luck!
I tried that and it's still showing up as 32GB. When I first put it in the phone, it shows some up as 59GB, which means it was detecting the whole card. I've tried formatting as FAT32 and exFAT in both my Mac and Pc. I also browsed forums for awhile and still can't get an answer.

Then the sdcard is defective, hopefully you can still return it and either exchange it or get a refund.
Good luck!
So the card ended up being a fake. I purchased it on eBay and paid a little bit more money for one that said Kingston OEM, but that's not what I received. I contacted the seller and have not heard anything yet, so I made a case with eBay to help take care of it. Long story short, am I better off just buying one in the store or can I get a pretty legitimate, working 64GB microSDXC card for my GS4 online for less than $50?
You should go on to amazon? They have SD cards on there for good prices and reputable Sellers

any ideas why it wont work and makes my fone freeze. looks like i will have to save the 32gb for a dual core nvidia tegra 2 phone.
does it freeze when you launch android or just freezes in winmo 6.5?
if it only freezes when you are launching android, backup the card then format it in winmo (you'll find under settings) and restore all files to it and give it a try

That link takes you to a 16gb class6 SDHC card made by Lexar.
It also happens to be the highest capacity card they sell on that site. Trust me.. I looked.
Download h2testw, run a full test of you micro sdhc card and make sure it's functioning properly.

dont you read anything. i said now i bought this one with the eprovided link from ebuyer
it freezez in winmo.
Just in case someone is still having issues, this is what I experienced.
I bought a Sandisk 32gb micro card, formatted (quick) with windows, put it in the HD2, and had nothing but problems (many hours of trying different things) trying to watch AVI's, or even install larger CAB's.
I read here about the SD assoc. having a free format program (SDFormatterv3.0.zip), I downloaded it, installed it on my WIN7 machine, did a quick format, not much change, did a full format (took over 3 hours!) card now works perfectly. Amazing.
I sure this is not the case with all Micro cards, but it sure helped me. Oh, I did the formatting while the card was in the phone, the card was set as "Disk Drive". (settings, other, USB)
I can vouch for the official format program fixing problem cards.
Sent from my Atari 600XL using cassette tape and a stamp.
Well an update. The program does a very good job on formatting the micro card, but it does not detect a fake card! H2testw.exe does, excellent little program. Turns out my 32gb card was 2Gb! Windows and the SD format program both reported it Ok, but If I wrote over 2Gb, files disappeared or didn't work. (doah) just couldn't believe I got ripped. Anyway, buyer beware, and check those cards before you loose important data.
32 gig card
As far as I know the hd2 does not support any higher then a 16 gig micro sd.
It supports sdhc so up to 32GB.

Shows what you know. Almost all the HTC phones produced in the last two years have the abilty to use 32gig cards.
That's what I said... Unless you're replying to another post, in which case - quote, if it's not directly above yours.

Well I finally locked onto a 32gb card. Got it from Buy<DOT>com, quite a few for under $50 now. Ebay... <sigh> 99% of them are fake, defective or scams.
My Tmobile HD2 runs great with a class 4 32gb card.
All I can say is avoid Ebay for your cards.
For those running on Tmobile firmware (I do still) there is a new ROM release that radically improves battery life, I am getting 100% more op time. I am not a heavy user. (5 days now, vs 2 before)

Any sign of 32 GB SD cards though? That's the only type of card not supported atm.
No this is only 8gb so far. Hopefully when they make it official they'll have 16gb and 32gb versions too.
Don"t you just love AT&T's ballooned price of $32 for an 8Gb card??

Yeah thats what I was going to say. I just picked up a 16gig for $25 at Fry's this weekend. Not for a WP7 though mind you.
If I had to justify that $32, then I'd say that Microsoft and AT&T worked with Sandisk on selecting the manufactured cards that met the minimum performance requirements; all other manufactured cards get the regular consumer packaging.
Personally, I'm running a Sandisk class 2 8GB card (vs the Sandisk class 4 8GB card) and I haven't run into any detrimental issues yet. Performance is choppy/laggy once in a while though...
Michael.
Apparently PNY will be offering a 32 gb class 4 WP7 card avaliable at Best Buy. That was speculation on the web, though there is a picture advertising it, but nothing official on the PNY site or Best Buy site...yet.

Hey, I bought my ATT approved Windows Phone microsd card April 15, 2011 and I'm glad I did. I know it was a little high, but it works and it is reliable. It has not caused any problems. Given past memory card problems, I am not complaining. I didn't mind paying extra for consistant performance and reliabality. By the way, the packaging of this card does have the Windows Phone and round WP7 logo located on the top right hand corner of the packaging and the AT&T logo on the lower right hand corner of the packaging. As of today, 5-25-2011 still no issues and working perfectly.
I note under the AT&T site for accessories for the focus it lists a Class 2 Sandisk Micro SDHC card for 79.99
Adding link:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...TM)+-+Black&q_sku=sku4980540#fbid=mDVcGxoCjhm
under the phone image click on the compatible accessories tab. Around 1/2 way down is a section titled Memory and you can see the card there.

80 bucks!?!?!?! How many gigs?
it was 16GB but when I went to a local store they had a 50% off sticker so it was $40 + tax. Sandisk Class 2 16GB, NO windows phone 7 logo just like the pic on the web site though.

I called ATT support because I wanted to find out something about the focus. Fake tech issue you can call it
But during the conversation he said microsoft has not certified any cards as of yet. He said they sell cards that work but none yet is officially certified by microsoft. Idk if thats true but I have not seen a sd card with windows logo yet. He also was explaining how the focus was the only phone to have a sd slot.

I dont know when if ever MS will put their stamp on a card, but trust me the sandisk cards work.
Yeah I am running the 16GB Class 2 sandisk from the AT&T store and have had zero problems yet and its been 5 days.
Editting to add that it is NOT labeled windows phone 7, it is just a repacked standard Sandisk Class 2 card.
So an AT&T rep told me that if you bought the AT&T WP7 approved SD card that you could pull it out, put it in any PC an read the info on it without issue just like any other SD card.
????
Thats a load of crap Tiggah. The card is formatted using the Secure Digital technology. Locking it to the phone and ONLY that phone.
Can you put it in another phone and see data? No. Can you format it? Yes.
Can I put it in my computer and see data? No. (I tried this FYI and nothing)
Can I see data via the sync cable and the two reg hacks? yes.
So just wanted to update this with a few things. After more than a week with teh 16GB Class 2 Sandisk SD card my phone has worked perfectly.
Yesterday I needed to take some data home from work and used the reg hacks to see the Phone in explorer and transfer enough data to leave it about 600MB free.
When I got home I did the same reg hacks and started having trouble copying the data off. On one file the phone would just reboot.
No matter what I did it would reboot and come up and tell me my SD card was corrupt and to format it.
I would just pull the battery and reboot and it was ok again. I was never able to get that one file but was able to get the rest.
So a word of warning... if you want more memory to do what I did, don't complain if you start having problems.
Your taking an unsupported SD card and using it in an unsupported fashion via explorer. Don't cry about it later.
I bought a 32g card for my tablet today. I inserted it and it doesn't show in external SD storage. I've read that the card has to be fat32 formatted. Forgive me for being slow, but after searching through these forums, I can't find where
1. How do I format the card...on my computer? Or
2. Should the tab auto format it?
Thanks in advance.

Uhoh, I think the problem is solved. I plugged my phone card into the tab and it worked fine, so I thought, i'll format the card on my phone. I put it in the new card in the phone...the phone said the card is damaged. Its said I should reformat, it didn't. I think I bought a damaged card. Oh well.

First off, where did you buy it? If it was EBay or similar, you might ahve been scammed with a 4g re-rommed to read 32G, it happens.
I suggest, eitehr way, you plug it into a computer and format it from there, Fat32, default cluster sizes. (just right click it and format, select Fat32 in drop down box).
I bought the card at Fry's. Its a Patriot 32gb, class 10. I put it in the computer to format, keep getting the "Windows was unable to complete the format" pop-up....so this is a bad card?
brash
Uh, Patriot? Return it and get a refund. They have had more faulty 32 gb micro-SD cards than any other company I know -- so much so that they removed the tech support and RMA links from their website. I have one of those cards too, and it's crap, period. If you can get a refund from Frys, buy a Kingston, Transcend or Lexar card instead. And don't sweat the "class 10" business. Class 4 and Class 6 work just as well.
I agree with him - it's probably fubar, take it back for refund. Go for C6 or C8 rather than C10, the extra speed makes them more likely to die or be dead on arrival.
I got the class 10 patriot because it had a good price on it...was on sale. I'm going to return it today. I'm actually considering going with a 16gb now. I keep reading forums and such where people have much better luck with smaller cards than the larger ones. I wonder is this is a problem that has to do with size....no pun intended.
brash
I suggest you get some cheap crap until some light on SDXC is shed.
The minimum size will be 32gb and minimum speed will be class 10. We should have microSDXC this summer. Dunno if the compatibility will change though.
So, took the card back, they checked on their system, it was bad like we all thought. They were out of kingston and sandisk, so we did an even exchange. We formatted it right there at fry's and its working fine. I'll let you guys know if it takes a dump.

I purchased it from Amazon when they were offering the card (pre-release) for $119USD, so less than $1USD per GB. Not too bad. The write performance is OK nothing great. But, the card can store my entire .mp4 music collection with no card swapping!
Given the discounted price, I'm happy.

1. Self-censoring is not sufficient to avoid an infraction from moderators. I highly suggest editing your post and removing all the curse words within it.
2. Buying a no-name MicroSD card is the source of all your problems. I bet that card was really inexpensive, right? That's because the card manufacturer lied to you and told you the card was Class 10 when it really is Class 2 or Class 4. These cards are far slower than a true Class 10 card, but are far less expensive as well.
3. It's good to see you've learned the lesson here, which is to only buy brand name MicroSD cards. Sandisk is a good choice.
