Unroot Note 3 Questions - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have a rooted SM-N900W8 telus with Knox 0x0. I want to unroot it and go back to stock firmware for testing purposes. I downloaded my stock firmware from sammobile. Everyone states to just flash stock back onto phone with Odin. I'm worried that 1 or several of my root apps will stop my phone from booting properly (eg. Wannum exposed) back into stock. Am I best to uninstall my root apps before going back to stock? (I'm under the impression that flashing stock will not wipe my phone). Side note - I currently have all knox apps frozen, OTA off and all my data is backed up.
My plan was to:
adb into download.
Load/flash stock firmware via Odin
Fully boot into android.
And then factory reset from within android.
Or am I best to factory reset before loading into android for the 1st time after stock flash? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Root Question?!

Hello! I have a question and a doubt... I rooted my Canadian Version S4. But now i cant get OTA Update.. fair enough.. I had use OTA Rootkeeper with my TMO S3 & was able to keep root. Problem is rootkeep is not working.. as soon as i flash the root my phones says its been modiefied so it doesnt even search for updates. Is there another rooting method or any way to unrrot for updates. I havent modified or uninstalled no bloatware, and i aldo tried flash stock kernel thinkin that maybe the root method flash another kernel but had no luck... Thanks in advance
Here are my specs:
Baseband: I337MUMUAMG3
Kernel: 3.4.0-116001 [email protected] #1 jul 23
Build: JDQ39.I337MUMUAMG3
Boot Status : Samsung
When updates are released I backup my apps/sms with titanium back up and factory reset within custom recovery. Install triangle away, reset counter and then boot to download mode and use Odin to go back to stock then take OTA

I agree, you should Odin back to stock in order to get the ota.

Stock Recovery for Rogers S4. Also, bypass Sim card activation.

So, I got both my official statuses on the download boot, but my device status won't go back to official. I've removed root, and my CM 10.2 ROM. Only thing left to remove is my CWM recovery. I can't restore using a stock ODIN file because it will ask for my SIM activation, which will not activate as my SIM card tray is broken.
I have 2 questions, If I reset my phone and cannot get passed my SIM card activation, will Samsung be able to check that my device status isn't official?
Bump?
Also wondering if theres a way to reset the flash counter after flashing stock?
I'm pretty sure you don't need a SIM card after using Odin or flashing a new ROM. I have flashed ROMS without a SIM card before.
To revert to stock i do the following:
- if coming from a non touchwiz Rom I restore a nandroid of the stock Rom
- install triangle away
- reset counter
- boot to download mode
- Odin stock firmware for your carrier
- after Odin boot into stock recover
- factory reset
Should be good as new now.

Wait, but if I flash stock firmware, wont it add to my counter?
Flash official firmware.
Do a wipe if it doesn't make your device official status
If counter is 1 or higher, root with cf root, then triangle away and then Unroot.

My problem is if my flash counter goes up, I cant get past the Sim card activation to install triangle away, and thus i'm screwed. So I'm wondering what I can do here.

[Q] Need help unrooting

Hi, I rooted my phone because I was tired of all the bloatware. But I never actually got around to do anything else with my device (I didn't flash any custom rom)
So my question is. How can I do a full unroot of my Samsung Galaxy S4 gti9505. I want to be able to update to kitkat, and that is not possible with my rooted device. I tried to do an SuperSU unroot, and that removed root from my phone, yet, it still says that my device has been modified.
After you did your unroot. You have to do a system reset in order for things to get back to normal. So backup your data and go for it then update.

full format (boot, cache, system) and flash a firmware stock.

Cleanest way to return to stock?

I have a rooted rommed Note 3 with custom recovery. Time to Edge up and need to wipe this device and return to stock. I followed the advice here and even after Odining it it came back just as it was, tried multiple times. I've been Odining phones a long time now not a noob.... . Clearly there's something I'm missing. What's the most current cleanest method to get my device back to 100% stock?

To restore back to stock 4.4.2, I used Droidstyle's Restore guide here: ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46461911 ). If you want it on 4.4.4 when you return it to Verizon, you can find that firmware at Sammobile...the same restore instructions in Droidstyle's guide should work. Or, just restore to 4.4.2 and take the 4.4.4 OTA.
I had to do a factory reset/wipe cache in stock recovery after ODIN'ing the stock tar.
I also used Chainfire's Triangle Away app to remove the Custom unlock splash that pops up after rooting with Towelroot, as the ODIN restore and stock recovery wipe still didn't remove that. Triangle Away requires root, so you'll obviously need to use that before you ODIN back to stock.

Back to Stock - Will Odin wipe?

Guys,
So I'm on CM12.1 - all great and what not, but I've had enough, and want to try a fresh Stock install. I've downloaded the latest 5.0 build from Sammobile
My questions are
1. What happens to root?
2. What happens to KNOX 0x1?
3. Will ODIN wipe clean the storage? [I expect it to wipe all installed apps, but will it wipe local data? i.e do i need to move 10gb+ of stuff and then move it back?]
4. Will I be able to get OTA updates?
5. Will my recovery still be there? TWRP currently.
6. Will there be a modem/baseband problem with going from 5.1.1. to 5.0 ?
Cheers
Usually when you flash to stock, you want to preform a factory reset to clean and clear the system.
Root should be removed.
KNOX counter is invisible but should still be tripped.
You will be able to get OTA I believe ( not sure, haven't had one in a while).
Recovery will be lost.
I did not have any problems with my modem/baseband ( I think it resets to stock)
+1
Right, cool.
I get that you should probably clear the lot out to start fresh. But I'd still like to know if Odin will do it for you or not. So the internal storage, if I left a folder in there called XDA with a file called XDA.txt and I ran the ODIN process to get back to stock - will I boot into a fresh stock TW install and then find my XDA.txt file still there or not?
Cheers for your time guys!
I think it should be there, but the phone will boot in a crazy way such as no ui. In order to even use the phone after a factory flash you need to make sure factory reset it.
Maybe if you connect it to the pc you will be able to get in and save your data, but I highly doubt it. Be cautious as sometimes the phone can get stuck in a boot loop until you factory reset.

your XDA.txt file should be still there.
Many users are finding it difficult to root Lollipop.......Even with CF Root......
My advice would be to flash a KitKat firmware, root it and then Flashfire to Lollipop (and use Flashfire to inject root to the LP firmware)......
