Loving my new GN3. I got it rooted successfully and made a Titanium Backup. I got around to installing Xposed (and Busybox, on my way to installing Wanam). Unfortunately, upon installing Xposed, I encountered a bootloop. I tried to disable Xposed from recovery, but I guess I can't install unsigned zips (locked bootloader?).
So I wiped data and reflashed Root de la Vega and restored from Titanium. I don't know enough about Xposed to avoid a bootloop. Has anyone with a Verizon GN3 had success installing Xposed? If so, what steps did you follow? Maybe I did something wrong. TIA.

A lot of people, including myself, have successfully installed it without an issue. I just installed the app, hit the Framework button, then Install, rebooted, opened the app, downloaded some modules, installed them, rebooted, made changes in the modules, rebooted and enjoyed.
It was during the reboot after hitting the Framework button that I got the bootloop. I tried the adb script to intercept the bootloop, without success. I want to get Xposed installed, but now I'm concerned I'll get a bootloop every time. I wonder if it matters what Busybox I have.
You shouldn't have to install busybox for anything. Not sure if that is what caused your bootloop. Everything that I put on this phone that needs Busybox (Viper4Audio for example) installed just fine. Try Xposed again w/o Busybox.
Thanks for the advice. It took me a few hours to restore the phone and root. I wish we could do an update.zip via TiBu. I miss my unlocked GNex for that reason. Otherwise, the GN3 is a great handset. I'll have to think about trying Xposed again because I haven't found a successful way to recover from the bootloop without re-wiping the phone. Thanks again.
Fixed!

For those that perhaps encountered the same problem, I got Xposed installed by uninstalling Busybox, then installing Xposed, then Wanam in the same boot, then rebooted. Plus, I was crossing my fingers. Probably the finger-crossing was the thing that made everything work. At any rate, I'm up and running.

Hi,
I rooted my wifi Nexus 7 using Wugfresh toolkit and everything worked fine. After that I installed SmoothRom 4.3, which again went without a glitch. However, at some point I have noticed that the root is gone. This may have happened when I flashed Trinity kernel, but I am not sure. The Superuser SU is still there and couple of programs still have root access (e.g. Nova launcher), but Titanium backup no longer has root access (and it worked before). I re-rooted this morning using Wugfresh and everything went to the completion. I have Superuser SU and Busybox icons, but Busybox would not install and Titanium backup would not work due to the absence of root access. Any thoughts of what can be done to fix this?
Did you flash with TWRP or CWM? I have heard that you have to re-name some of the file names so that you do not lose the root access. You may have to re-flash and start from scratch but I am not sure. Personally i used MSKIP's toolkit. His has basically a 1.2.3........... root and flash setup. It is very easy to follow, plus one of the steps states "Do you wish to re-name file names so as not to lose Root access on restart." or something pertaining to that, I forgot exactly what it says, but I know that it is there.

I had the same issue. If you reflash the ROM, the problem corrects temporarily. It may be something w/the most recent version of Smooth- particularly when updates are made to Super User. I tried several different kernels and still "lost" root. Eventually I moved on to another ROM and have not had the issue since.
Thanks for the suggestions. I am using CMW. Tried MSKIP toolbox, but same result. Titanium gave back an error message that device appears to be rooted, but Superuser SU is not working properly. So, I went back and did CMW restore from an earlier backup, which seems to have fixed the problem. Titanium is working again.
Here's what worked for me:
Go into SuperSU
Disable SuperSU
Enable Survival Mode (pro version) (dunno if disabling SuperSU has any effect on this)
Uninstall Xposed Framework (if you have it installed)
Reboot (if you've uninstalled Xposed)
Download the OTA
Install the OTA
Upon reboot, re-enable SuperSU and disable survival mode
Reinstall Xposed
Profit
I even had some KitKat apps installed and the new Play Store. In reading others' accounts where it didn't work, something that seems to be missing is disabling SuperSU altogether. Good luck to everyone.

I thought I remembered how to do this from the last update, but I forgot the frigging survival mode.
So now I am trying to figure out how to get re-rooted.
Have they fixed the transition animation scale bug yet? That's literally the only reason why I would even bother updating from stock.
Also, OP, when you uninstall xposed, I'm assuming it obv reverses all installed mods. What I'm wondering is, are all the modules and settings and everything set up within xposed retained when you reinstall it, or did you have to start fresh?
I've read using Kingo can work. Never used it, even from beginning with root de la vega. I guess give Kingo a shot. Good luck.
I'm thinking I would still have some issues since I've used lucky patcher to disable all ads directly, on the app level. Maybe I'd have to reverse that first then uninstall lucky patcher. Ugh.

Did the same on mine a few days ago and working great. I didn't uninstall XF though, just disabled all of the modules prior to downloading the OTA. I also disabled SuperSU in SuperSU Pro when enabling survival mode. Don't think survival mode is available in regular SuperSU, but correct me if I'm wrong.
I followed your steps and it still errored. I have no processes running in Wanam framework, su is disabled and survival is on. Not sure why it errors. I see it try to boot into recovery for the update then it shows the android guy installing updates and then the android guy is on his back and says error. Then it restarts the phone. I wonder if safestrap is my issue. Any ideas?

I was having this exact same problem. I downloaded the original MJ7 file again. Disable supersu and put my phone into BOOT MODE. ODIN in the MJ7 again and then took OTA update. After that was all done I used kingo to reroot. Everything went fine and kept all my settings. Didn't have to reinstall a single app.

Lol. I did all this. Then I used kies to update. Worked but lost root... Survival mode didn't stick. Lesson learned. I'll try kingo again.
Edit: kingo worked, backed to rooted on mje. Anybody have a link to the newest su as kingo installed su. Then su asked to update which I did. The play store says my su pro 1.80 is up to date.

Stock mj7 firmware
Hi there,
The update's failing, so I guess I need to install the stock rom from ODIN. Where can I download the stock rom without giving my credit card number? I've only found one link, and they want a credit card. I won't give out my CC.
Thanks
... Nevermind, Apparently it did start downloading. I don't remember clicking ok for the download. I must be getting in a hurry...
Hi All,
I had obtained root via CF-Autoroot and was using it with xposed for the last few weeks without issues. I took the lunge and tried to install phh super su, magisk systemless root. so the nightmare begins for me and i'm hoping it's an easy fix!
My system is still encrypted (I believe because TWRP can't see the system) SD card is fine. I've wiped my device a few times already and am hoping I don't need to wipe it again(prior to this setup).... So currently it's running fine without root access (How I hate android without root!!!)
- I've tried flashing Supersu zip in TWRP and it's failed - I believe it's not supported yet for encrypted devices.
-I've tried using the original CF-Autoroot method I used initially.
Both methods, it boots up straight away (no optimising apps) and after installing supersu app from playstore, it says no binaries found.
What are some ways I can inject root without wiping my device?
Please help me! Thankyou!
Maybe go back to the start and flash original FW through Odin and start from scratch, so you have a fresh phone to work with.

That's my plan when I get home tonight. I want to flash the original firmware file my phone started with (I'm assuming it won't delete anything?) and then run through the root steps again.. if it doesn't work, I'll wipe my phone and make sure I get rid of encryption this time..

I think you will only lose stuff if you do a system reset after installing the original FW.
I only have had to do that on my tab S not my Edge after coming from a custom rom as I got slow down.
Resolved: flashed original rom and obtained root with cf-autoroot.
If someone has detailed instructions for magisk systemless root and xposed, it'd be much appreciated.. i want to have the option to use android pay or play pokemon go if i wanted. Thankyou
Magisk show I have root, and it is installed correctly. I wiped system and reinstalled, still no app shoes I have root. The bootloader shows it is unlocked and TWRP works, but ever application says root is not installed, tried to install magisk manually from TWRP, no issues, but still all apps say I do not have root. What can be done, I can not afford to not backup, so a clean re-install is an issue since Ti-Backup does not show root access.
I would assume manually flashing magisk would fix any issue as would wiping and re-installing system, but neither resolved the lack of root issue. This is on RR Remix so it is rooted by default.
Please help,
ERIC
Did you make sure Root is checked in the Developer options?
Found the solution, with magisk there is a settings option to enable root for Apps or just ADB or both, somehow it got switched to ADB only.

hey all!
I'm a newb....
I have a rooted 6p with the factory image installed, twrp recovery.
I don't recall doing a backup before rooting.....yeah I know not smart....didn't know what the heck I was doing in this process....never rooted a phone.
I installed Magisk......then in my infinite wisdom installed supersu
the phone for the most part works fine, but I am having a problem running frida, it complains about magisk hide. I have removed all the magisk modules...
I am hoping I can some how clean up this phone and completely remove magisk.....and get frida running.
am I toast without a backup?
what is the best way to completely remove and uninstall magisk.
tried to run magisk install again and also magisk uninstall gives me error 1, which I see there are videos for dealing with on youtube...though haven't gone done that rabbit hole
I am quite comfortable using adb
I see bits of magisk all through the file system, just not sure if I should be deleting as I might be getting myself into more trouble.
TIA
Well if you don't mind starting fresh (backing up all your data) as this would erase everything and set your phone back to "factory stock" on the latest official version from google and its as easy as clicking one batch file to get things sorted. You may have messed up some stuff permanently on your system partition by installing/uninstalling two incompatible root solutions etc.

Direct link to latest file: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/angler-opm7.181205.001-factory-b75ce068.zip
Then you just plug your phone in and run the 'flash-all.bat' file.
