[Q] G2 and DriveDroid app - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if anyone here managed to get an app called DriveDroid working correctly on their G2? I used to have no problems running it on my Nexus S.
Basically, I am able to get my laptop to boot from previous bootable ISO files (made on my old Nexus S). But when I try to mount a blank image so that I can write a new ISO to it, it does not show up in Windows 7 as a device (CD or USB drive), instead the MTP service kicks in and lists it as a media device. I've tried switching to charge only mode, but then no devices show up at all.
I assume it is something to do with MTP overriding the connection that DriveDroid is trying to present. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to disable MTP, but still have connectivity?
Thanks in advance.

I just found out about this app yesterday. The test image worked ok for me.
I'm going to play with it today, see if I can create a custom image. I'll report back. But I'm on CM11.

[Q] How to transfer files to Nexus 7?

Good day, normally when I plug-in my other Android Devices on PC, I'll see them on "My Computer" and can see the files like a normal drive, but with the Nexus 7 I get nothing, I also tried to install the Nexus 7 Toolkit for the drivers, but still can't access the files. I'm on 4.2.1 right now, anybody can help? Thanks in advance!
I installed the drivers from the 'Wugfresh nexus root toolkit', installed the android sdk, installed the pda.net app on the N7 and the win version of pda.net on the pc and then the connection worked. Some have had to go into 'device manager' on the pc and uninstall any reference to the nexus or unknown devices and connect again. Also, usb debugging should be on and you should set the n7 to mtp mode. It is almost always a driver issue.
If you want you can use even airdroid via Wi-Fi connection.

The Nexus uses the MTP mode to connect to your computer. This mode works best on a recent Windows operating systems with Windows Media Player 13 or better. The Nexus will appear as a Device - usually Nexus7.
Just search this forum for MTP for help with Windows XP, Linux and Apple systems.
Will this work on Windows 7? I tried to check updates on Windows Media Player 12 and it says I already have the latest version, no device on My Computer for my Nexus 7..

It should just work on a Windows 7 computer - it did on mine. Try turning the Nexus fully off, connecting it to the computer and then turning on the Nexus. I noticed mine updated some drivers when I did this.
Also try another USB cable as those do fail.
If you're looking to transfer stuff like music, video and ect. You can do that over wifi by using an app on the Google play store called airdroid. I use the very same app to transfer files.

I'm on Windows 7 Home 64 Bit, I tried turning it on while plugged on my laptop but still no luck. All my other android devices works fine, it's just the Nexus 7 that is problematic.. I also tried AirDroid, not so good with large files especially movies when I travel
Are you connected to the internet with your windows7 pc?
Maybe it can't download the necessary files/drivers?

Is "USB Debugging" off in settings - developer options? Maybe also leave developer options off for now.
I got USB Debugging off, I'm on 4.2.1. Still no luck.. I just use AirDroid now even though its very slow for me..
Well I just connected my Nexus 7 to my PC and straight away my PC asked me if I wanted to view Nexus 7 files.
My PC is running Windows 7 64 bit.
I am able to look what is in the Nexus and I am also able to add or delete files as I want - great. :good:
I solved my problem with transferring large files, I didn't realize it's very simple, instead of MTP I just chose PTP and Windows detected it as a portable device, tranferred files from my PC to the Nexus 7's DCIM folder. Unplug the USB then just move them anywhere on the device's storage using a file manager.. It's that simple..

SOLVED:
in device messenger, right click on 'unknown device' and update driver/browse my computer../let me pick from list.../portable device/Manufacturer(standard MTP device)/MTP USB device
say YES to install anyway (even though it will blow up the world). after install, unknown device changes to Nexus 7 (or 10 I would hope, but I have 7), this also fixes problem with my Kindle Fire HD 7.
YaY!

I found the same results after rooting my Nexus. Uninstalling WUGs toolkit and restarting restored the MTP mode and ADB also continues to work. This won't erase any backups you've made. If not WUGs maybe something else you've added is blocking the MTP mode.
Sorry I still can't figure it out. I am on stock rom, with root access. I have debug usb enabled. I can connect it as PTP or MTP....with PTP, the nexus 7 is displayed as 'nexus 7' and I can access the DCIM and picture cache folder (pretty useless....). With MTP, the device won't even be detected by windows. It will not search for drivers.
My target is to be able to write bigger files...I am speaking about 1 gigabyte or more. Through WiFi it would be a pain...if it is a picture or even a collection of a few hundreds megabytes....ok, I could do it, but sometimes I need to move GBs of things, and with wifi is obviously too slow....so how do I get to move this stuff via usb? I thought even copying from PC to usb stick, and then copying from stick to nexus (with usb host....stickmount or usb host or another app) would be even faster than doing everything via wifi, but it is just lame.
HELP!
edit: sorry I feel like I have an ipad (grrrr)...never had problems with other android devices

drumtrucker, I think you're on to something here, but you meant "Device Manager" which may be found either in your start menu or by pressing windowsKey+r and typing "control" then hitting enter.

[Q] ADB will not connect to new nexus 7

I just got a brand new Nexus 7 and I went to root it with the nexus 7 toolkit. Long story short the Nexus's serial number would not show up under the attatched devices.
I have tried uninstalling the driver, reinstalling both the driver provided by the nexus 7 toolkit and asus. Neither work. Interestingly eclipse will not connect either.
Device manager shows the adb interference as working however adb will not return a connected device.
I also tried putting the nexus into ptp mode and using adb even though I did not do that with my previous nexus 7. When the Nexus is in PTP mode device manager will not allow me to install drivers for the adb interference. Which is odd since I thought if I installed adb drivers once I wouldn't have to again.
EDIT: I should also add that adb in fastboot and stock recovery works. I was able to try reflashing the device with a stock nexus 7 ROM but it didn't work. Still couldn't connect to abd while android was booted. Also I noticed that my old nexus has both mtp and adb available at the same time. However the new nexus only allows one or the other. E.g. I can't access the files system while adb is enabled and vice versa.
Do you guys have any idea why this is happening? My old nexus works fine.

I will be watching this thread as am having the same issue right down to working fine in ptp or camea mode, but am unable to click and drag files to the device. And similiarily to you, have no problems with the 16g nexus only the 32. I am using skippen's toolkit.
A possible solution.

I forgot I made this thread. I have since since solved the issue and have both mtp and adb at the same time with this particular nexus 7.
First of all installing new drivers on my windows 7 installation was causing a problem. So I backed up and reinstalled. However, while that solved other problems it did not solve my issues with the Nexus.
After a lot of fiddling I finally got it to work by using the official google usb driver. http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
Now here's the thing. I discovered that windows treated each combination of adb+mtp or adb+ptp, adb alone, mtp alone, and ptp as a seperate device. So while they all might use the same driver windows considered them different devices.
So basically what I did was install google's driver whenever a combination of usb modes did not work correctly. So in adb+mtp (which is what I really want to be able to use) I went to device manager found my nexus 7 under android devices or whatever it is called and installed the the official google driver. It proceeded to tell me there was an error but then it proceeded to work perfectly. The error may have been just my computer acting up because of all the drivers I'd been installing/uninstalling trying to get this to work.
Also, when you go into device manager and try to install the usb driver you typically right click on the device, select update driver and then click search computer, browse to the folder containing the driver and install. Sometimes that would fail for me, windows would say I already had an updated driver. Thankfully I did find a workaround that forces windows to install the driver you want to install no matter what.
When you get to the part where you browse your computer for the driver click let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. Then there should be a button that says I have the disk. Click on that browse to the folder with drivers, say yes to any warnings and continue.
If the I have a disk button does not appear and instead a list of possible manufacturers or devices shows up just click on one of the entries. Then the I have the disk button should appear.
The danger with forcing windows to install the driver you want is that you can install any driver for anything and possibly damage something.
Hope this helps!

Usb mounting in linux? [solved]

Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of an issue with my s4, in my efforts to fix it, I am transferring files to my laptop, I'm using LinuxMint Mate Edition but I get a "can not lock device" error. I can use my windows partition, and it works fine so no problems there, but was seeing if anyone knew how to mount as a hard drive? I've enabled usb debugging and no go.
Mtp shows 2 ipods/media players but no files inside.
Ptp shows a camera, but files are all "corrupted". (they are not, that's just what it's telling me.)
I can put them on windows then access via linux, but I'd like to be able to just boot linux instead of running around.
(my windows is jacked, after x minutes it starts giving up, hard drive is partitioned so linux isn't affected by bad sectors, runs perfectly).
So yeah, any assistance would be most appreciated
Thanks
***edit:
Figured it out.
1. Apparently the ports was iffy, cable had to be just right for data transfer. Switched ports.
2. Look up go-mptfs! Build it from source and you should be good to go for those older linux distros

[Q] Nexus 4 no longer recognised as a device on Mac OSX

Hi Folks,
I've been unable to sync photos to iPhoto on my Mac (10.9.2) for a few months now. Decided to upgrade to latest 4.4.2 (update from google) but it's still not recognized as a device. As far as I remember if I had it in MTP mode, when I plugged the phone in iPhoto used to open with options to sync photos.
I previously rooted the phone with CWM and SuperSU, the device does appear in the list when I run:
$ ./adb-mac devices
List of devices attached
01637f56g7814390 device
When USB debugging is turned on, a message "USB debugging connected" appears on screen, but iphoto doesn't see the device, and nothing in Disk Utility either. Android File transfer says: "No Android device found".
Any help to get photo sync / file transfer operational again much appreciated.
Thanks
The 4.4.2 update seems to be fine, haven't noticed anything weird, certainly no 'bricking', it's the photo syncing / device detection that still doesn't work (it wasn't syncing before the upgrade). I'm looking for some troubleshooting ideas, like log files to look at, or some options to try. I've tried several usb cables, same result.
[Edit: the poster I was replying to deleted their comment about their phone getting bricked, oh well]
Found the option, it's buried in
Settings>Storage>...Menu>USB computer connection>Camera (PTP)
very intuitive thank u google
Hopefully this will be helpful to someone else out there

No MTP over USB with any AOSP ROM

I'm having an issue with file transfer where my computer can't 'see' the phone when an AOSP ROM is installed.
File transfer is fine when mounting in recovery, also when I have OOS installed, so it isn't a hardware problem.
I've gone through the forum searching for a solution, and I have:
Changed the default USB configuration (under Developer options) to MTP
Uninstalled the phone from Device Manager on my computer
Tried installing OnePlus drivers to my computer
Tried installing Qualcomm drivers to my computer
Can anyone suggest a solution? I'm desperate to get this sorted as I can't tolerate OOS any longer, I just want a cleanish build of Android with no OnePlus rubbish in it!
I join your quest man... Im looking for the solution for this problem since i have installed my first AOSP rom on OP5... Never find the solution, i'm curious for this too... Now im on PureFusion and MTP of course isnt working... so i use recovery for file transfer (which is annoying) or the WiFi server (which is slow and isnt "operations" friendly)
In the same time cant understand why my nexus 6p with PureNexus is fully working in MTP but the oneplus 5 nope

That's interesting. I'm transferring like 80% of my files trough MTP and it is and always was working fine, but I'm using Linux, so that might help you guys to solve it

I know it's windows fault because when it have too many drivers to manage for the same thing it goes crazy.. but even removing every single driver (ADB and Android related) it doesn't work.. I'm looking in a solution on the Linux build called "forget windows use Linux" since I can't completely remove windows 10
I had same issue in Linux
Typically, issue is not the ROM
1) check the phone get set to "file transfer" when connected, you generally have option to chose
2) plugging to a usb in chain to other switches it was not work, connected directly to a usb MB port, worked.
