I have looking for answer to this question and can't find a reasonable one. Does the G2 have gorilla glass?? I want to take off my screen protector but not willing to have my G2 scratched up..Anybody know what type of glass the G2 uses??
I've got a scratch on my screen from dropping it. In other words, no.
Even though, *almost* nothing scrathes glass, you do get scratches from surfaces or minerals that are harder than glass itself.
Other than, I think there's a limited amount of phones that have this feature. Not even the iPhone features this.
Scratched
Pretty sure I got a scratch from change in my pocket. If it IS gorilla glass, then I am thoroughly unimpressed with GG.
This glass is pretty strong since I have tried scratching it with metal and nothing I did applied decent preassure and bump the tip of the charging port into the glass screen and I got nothing. Whatever it is is very strong yu don't even need a screen protector but I'm still putting one I just took it off cuz my replacement is comming Monday so why not test the phone since its going back to tmo lol.

Mayb it wasn't change, I doubt it because I applied preassure with the charging port tip which is sharper then change edges and got nothing. Who knows you probably got it from something else, mayb some one scratched it accidently or something. But I'm suprise with the screen scratch resistance never though any phone screen could have such resistance

There is nothing in the specs that state that the G2 has Gorilla Glass.
The Vibrant and all Galaxy S series phones have it.
The Motorola Defy has it.
Had the vibrant, gorilla glass is amazing, but still used a screen protector for anti glare, this feels nothing like gorilla glass, and wouldn't feel comfortable testing it further till htc announced it having it.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
Althought I CAN'T confirm that it is not Gorilla Glass, I will tell you that it is NOT. If you go to the Gorilla Glass developer's websites, they do NOT have HTC phones listed on their lists for manufactured screens with GG.
Gorilla Glass is only available on Motorola and Samsung smartphones. HTC is not at liberty to discuss what screen is being used on these devices as it is proprietary information and Gorilla Glass also states that there are companies that they partnered up with AREN'T going to be listed on their list.
In quick summarization, I would conclude that it doesn't have it simply because with Gorilla Glass features, I'm sure it would be campaigned and promoted to carry Gorilla Glass.
Can we just agree that the phone has a glass screen, not necessarily gorilla glass. I've been using the phone without a screen protector for a few weeks and have no scratches. no worries for me.

:s damn really?, oh well mine doesn't bend at all if I were you I would get a replacement. Mine has glass why would yours not? That looks like the perfect excuse for exchange call tmo up. Everyday is something with this phone. After the updates I be getting random reeboots but before the updates I've never experience those random reboots smh and I though it was supose to get rid of them.

The scariest part is that I did herd this from others as well. However as hard as a push the screen it doesn't bend and it feels like glass.

I am not complaining about the screen, even if it is plastic. It works great and is a great replacement for my old G1. Let me get root and I won't have any complaints at all.
Ive never dropped my phone and always just slip it in my pocket. Though I never EVER have anything besides my phone in a single pocket. Dont have any scratches yet...

If u use denim: check if you have fine sand in your pocket of the stonewash wich can left ;-) other than stone, sand or diamonds cannot easily scratch your (gorilla) hardened glass i guess...

I do not know where it came from but there is a scratch on mine. My Nexus One is still pristine and given the amount of use I put that through without a screen protector I figured that the G2 would be fine. While it is somewhat long (about 15mm) it is not easy to see with the screen on so I am reluctantly living with it.

Good afternoon fellow XDAers!
Here's a poll question for you: how is the back of your Xperia Z1 holding up?
The question is especially for those of you who haven't used a case.
I've received my Z1 just yesterday, and today I already noticed a hairline crack of about 4.5 centimeters high. I have no idea what could've caused this as I have only put my phone down very carefully. Considering this is just day two of carrying the device, and since I'm not planning on getting a case for it (I like my phones how I like my women - ifyouknowwhatImean ; ), I'm really wondering how the back holds up for people who have carried the device without a case for a couple of months. The only thing I don't like about its back, is the fact that the factory screen protector seems to scratch too easily. I'm not afraid of breaking it, but I'm not taking this protector off either.
So please, share your results, show some pictures if possible, tell me about your experience with handling the Z1's back.
I tried taking a picture of it with my Xperia S but that failed. I may try using my D5100 if you're interested in my Z1's back.
problem i have is that back panel is sticking out slightly in the corner where camera is at.
basically i am having this problem:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/08/0...ose-back-panels-water-resistance-compromised/
i dont have warranty so i sent my phone to a random shop and they applied some glue to that corner which resolved the problem
but now it seems the problem is coming back again (panel getting unglued again)

B-buttt... I thought that was only an issue with Xperia Z devices, not with the Z1?
Darn, I really hope I'm not affected by that. I already got a yellow display from that 'lottery' it seems...
EDIT: also, doesn't every electronic device come with a 2-year factory warranty? That's what I've heard.
Nillkin tempered glass screen protector saved my device.
I have frame (rubber) case but I'm not using it because I don't like the look of device in it.
However, the other day I bought new Nillkin SP and when I peeled old SP I saw device is perfectly saved.

Used to use a thin case but took it off. The phone looks too good to have it covered. I bought the Skinomi full body skin protector and it's pretty good. I don't feel scared about handling my phone a bit roughly since it's pretty much wrapped in a plastic sheet.
I bought two front screen protectors, since both the front and back side of the Z1 have the same shape i just made a cutout for the camera and pasted it in the back
So damn hard to find a back protector here
Sent from my SGP311 using Tapatalk
Haven't had any problems with the back yet, touch wood, but the front collected scratches so easily. I bought some Z1 membrane screen protectors and took the front Sony one off to replace with one of the new ones and to my pleasant surprise it has actually made the touch sensitivity a lot more responsive! I've left the back Sony one on and just covered it with a membrane one.

Destroyed, just it.... A LOT of scratches and i cant find a good case for it, theres just the official one but is very expensive....
Pretty much pristine condition, metal-slim bumper w/ nilkin glass screen protector on the front and skinomi on the back. My only issue is that the skinomi protector gets really icky real fast, like slimy, due to the moisture of my hands.
No scratches front or back, no case, no screen protectors, and i've dropped it twice
Great phone.
No case, no cracks on the back, just those original things that are on the phone

you guys do know the phone comes with a screen protector front and back from the factory right?
Mine is scratched up to, but its just the screen protector, you can just remove it and replace it.
I haven't dont this for the back yet but i did do this for the front, only loss is that i dont have the sony logo on the front anymore but i dotn really care about that.

That's why it scratches so easily. It's just a screen protector.
Exactly why I made this poll, I was wondering how bad it could get.
At the Mall on Friday and ran into the Ghost Armour kiosk so I decided to have them apply a screen protector for their $25. Had micro bubbles for a day but by Sunday all traces of bubles are gone and you can't tell there is any screen protector on the phone. I also have a slim hard case that covers the back which should be arriving today so I should be good to go with protection.
http://www.wirelessground.com/puregear-sony-xperia-z1s-hard-shell-case-black.html
The screen does scuff up very easily so be careful until you get some sort of protection on it. Also screen response is just as good with the additional protector on it.
I had a light scratch on the back of my Z1. I put on an Armor Suit protector on it and the scratch no longer appears. As well, the Armor Suit heals itself from scratches... it just looks great now. I'm also caseless.
JF
Scratchs, SCRATCHES EVERYWHERE! lol
But they are not noticeable unless you're TRYING to looking for them. If they where a screen at the back I would INSTANTLY remove the ASF.

I have had this phone nearly 2 weeks now and it is still in brand new condition... Not even a single scratch anywhere. Lol
Tho with most phones the colour starts to fade or wear on the side of the phone, however the Z1's case not a problem.
ALTHOUGH... they say its dust resistant? Ive seen more dust accumulate on the front and back than ive seen on the a glass table that never gets used ?

Dust resistance means that dust won't get inside the device (possibly heating the device). It doesn't magically repel dust off the front :silly:
Apparently this stuff is indestructible, however I've never dropped my phone, never put it in a pocket with any coins or keys etc, it's always by itself, yet I have two sizeable scratches on my screen.
Anybody else having this issue?
I've scratched every gorilla glass phone I've own. Most of the time it happens when I just have my phone in my pocket.
People underestimate the capabilities of dand particle. That is actually the real horror. This is why i have used a screen protector on everz device ive owned after my htc one x. Onthe n4, g2 and g3.. Not willing to risk scratches im rrally picky about that

I totally disagree with your point. Whether its gorilla glass or not, the glass has to come to contact with something to get scratch on the surface of glass and in your case gorilla glass without you aware of it.
Yup, I always end up scratching it with normal usage, but I don't mind anymore, I don't like constantly trying to pamper my phone haha

Never scratched a phone screen, never buy screen protectors.
I took a fork to the Droid X screen and tried to scratch the screen with all I had. There were very slight thin lines but the screen looked great for the most part after such abuse. This was the original strength gorilla glass. None of my other GG phones have had scratches. I've had a good experience with them.
I have never used screen protectors and my previous device was s2 which I had it for 3 years without even a single scratch
Needless to say I'm so careful and I don't even let my screen get dirty by touches and leave it for a while. Because I don't like the feeling of touching a dirty surface.

Gorilla glass is basically polycarbonate plastic. Polycarb scratches easily, as anyone with modern glasses will attest to.
But in my experience, the scratches are very faint.

Rubbish
I always use a screen protector. Considering their cost and what you risk if you don't use one (irreversible damage) I don't see any valid reason to not use one.
Mine has severe erosion from a simple smooth cloth protector that that a little fold in it. And that after the first week with light usage (just work and home where it just sat on my desk).
Never seen such a bad glass, the old S2 has survived much much worse and still has a flawless screen.

No one ever said gorilla glass is indestructible. I'd say 50% of people, android or iPhone user, I see havw cracked screens or huge scratches
Why first thing I always get is a tempered glass screen protector, and I try to have one put on before I even leave the store.
I can attest to the tempered glass screen protector. . Had it on my Note 3, my little kid threw my phone against the wall, glass screen scattered but the phone screen was perfect. Replace the glass screen protector and you're good to go
Don't understand why more people aren't using tempered glass screen protectors

I keep my phone in a pouch/sleeve - cause i hate cases, keeps it well protected.
Do you by chance wear a diamond earring? I ended up with a scratch on my S4 after my gf used it one night with hers in.
Is anyone using this phone completely naked? No case, no screen protector, no back protection? I asked this another way a little earlier; only one response. Very curious. I'm looking at the Z5 Compact and the Samsung S6 Edge. I prefer the specs and size of the Z5, but I know 2 people who use their Edge without any protection. After several months, they still look good.
All opinions appreciated.
Thanks.
Not very old but I use mine with a tempered glass screen protector that you'd never know was there anyhow... Phone doesn't have a mark or look worn

Well, it is glass at the back, it's just frosted.
I have screen protectors both sides. Usually backside gets more hits
I just put a tempered glass screen protector on mine and am debating getting a $3 aluminum bumper from eBay until the Devilcase is released. I like the look of the phone naked and have had it that way for a few weeks, but I already have a few tiny nicks on the poly carbonate ridge along the backside. They're hardly noticeable, but the phone hasn't taken any hard drops. I'm thinking the PC won't hold up long term without getting damaged.
I've been using the phone without case since one day.
I'm just worried about the camera glass. I'd put a ring a bumpon or something to lift up that area a bit.

I've only owned two smart phones in my life. The very first one, I got a silicone case and a SGP (plastic) screen protector. I've scratched the screen protector maybe twice, not sure if it would have scratched glass. I owned it for 2 years
For my second phone, I saw some videos about how silicon cases and bumpers don't really protect against drops because of how thin they are. I decided I didn't need the case but still got the protector since it has no affect on clarity, feel, thickness. I've had it for three years. Scratched the screen protector three times. I don't know how it happened but I did get a tiny crack in the bezel. Since it's black its barely noticeable.
I've dropped my phone plenty of times. Usually not from far, like 2-3ft onto carpet.
I just ordered the Z5 Compact. I decided to try the tempered glass protector. And I also ordered the Orzly Fusion bumper case. I figure the hard back might actually protect something. I figure the slippery body and sharp corners make it more susceptible to damage. Also, I'm paying full price for this phone so I'm more inclined to protect it.
I read about people that use their phones naked all the time. Maybe it really isn't needed but I don't want to take the chance with my own phone.
One other alternative I can think of is to buy insurance for your phone. Something with a low deductible.
I have an armor suit protector front and back along with a caseology case, and have always been extremely careful with my mobile handsets. I boarded a flight with the camera protective glass intact, and left the flight with it shattered completely.
The phone never dropped and stayed in my pocket the majority time. The LG G5 and the LG V20 has had the weak camera glass problem, and now it seems the G6 has inherited this issue. Tmobile won't help, and has directed me to pay the $175 insurance deductible....I don't agree since this is a faulty design and not the fault of the user.
Anyone know if the G5 glass replacement for the camera is the same size as the G6? Or should I go through lgmobilerepair.com?
So without any impact or any physical damage at all the glass just shattered spontaneously?

I have run into a similar thing. Spigen cover and tempered glass screen protector. I admittedly dropped my phone about 3 feet (with the cover on it) and was pretty surprised at the glass over the camera & flash spider-webbed like it had been on a head-on collision with no seat belt. I am extremely dissatisfied with that happening as salespeople are touting its MIL-STD 810G drop testing. Nothing else on the phone is scratched/cracked except the camera glass, which makes the camera unusable.
LG had no good response as "physical damage is not covered." But as has been mentioned, this appears to have been a big problem with the G5 and V20. I was upgrading from the G4 and didn't encounter any issues like that, although I did have the camera itself fail, but it was an easy replacement. I am certainly pretty annoyed as I know that undoubtedly any repair with nullify the water/dust protection capability of the phone in general. C'mon LG, this is really disappointing!
There are replacement lg g6 back covers on eBay. Any chance they include the glass?
LG offers repair service which includes a complete glass back and camera lens as one piece for $83. They claim it will retain its ip68 water resistant rating with a 2 week turn around.

Wow, IMO that's a pretty great deal. Okay, not if your camera glass broke spontaneously, but if you dropped your phone and cracked it.
Not great but the best deal so far because it sure beats the $175 deductible that the insurance companies offer to replace the whole phone.

tight radius glass cuts are a weak point for compression/bending in a pocket
camera glass shattered while in a sweatpant pocket, sitting on the couch. Took video of my daughter, put it in a pocket, took it out 5 min later, with a complete spider pattern. The break radiates away from the round filleted cut out for the flash. This, IMO, is a design flaw. Clearly a pressure point against a tight radius glass cut out. I don't want to waste time with LG repairing the stupid thing, i just want the replacement glass to be available for purchase. takes 2 minutes to swap out (peel up the broken glass, plop down the new adhesive - as i have found in researching this is a common problem on the V20).
