I have looking for answer to this question and can't find a reasonable one. Does the G2 have gorilla glass?? I want to take off my screen protector but not willing to have my G2 scratched up..Anybody know what type of glass the G2 uses??
I've got a scratch on my screen from dropping it. In other words, no.
Even though, *almost* nothing scrathes glass, you do get scratches from surfaces or minerals that are harder than glass itself.
Other than, I think there's a limited amount of phones that have this feature. Not even the iPhone features this.
Scratched
Pretty sure I got a scratch from change in my pocket. If it IS gorilla glass, then I am thoroughly unimpressed with GG.
This glass is pretty strong since I have tried scratching it with metal and nothing I did applied decent preassure and bump the tip of the charging port into the glass screen and I got nothing. Whatever it is is very strong yu don't even need a screen protector but I'm still putting one I just took it off cuz my replacement is comming Monday so why not test the phone since its going back to tmo lol.

Mayb it wasn't change, I doubt it because I applied preassure with the charging port tip which is sharper then change edges and got nothing. Who knows you probably got it from something else, mayb some one scratched it accidently or something. But I'm suprise with the screen scratch resistance never though any phone screen could have such resistance

There is nothing in the specs that state that the G2 has Gorilla Glass.
The Vibrant and all Galaxy S series phones have it.
The Motorola Defy has it.
Had the vibrant, gorilla glass is amazing, but still used a screen protector for anti glare, this feels nothing like gorilla glass, and wouldn't feel comfortable testing it further till htc announced it having it.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
Althought I CAN'T confirm that it is not Gorilla Glass, I will tell you that it is NOT. If you go to the Gorilla Glass developer's websites, they do NOT have HTC phones listed on their lists for manufactured screens with GG.
Gorilla Glass is only available on Motorola and Samsung smartphones. HTC is not at liberty to discuss what screen is being used on these devices as it is proprietary information and Gorilla Glass also states that there are companies that they partnered up with AREN'T going to be listed on their list.
In quick summarization, I would conclude that it doesn't have it simply because with Gorilla Glass features, I'm sure it would be campaigned and promoted to carry Gorilla Glass.
Can we just agree that the phone has a glass screen, not necessarily gorilla glass. I've been using the phone without a screen protector for a few weeks and have no scratches. no worries for me.

I do not know where it came from but there is a scratch on mine. My Nexus One is still pristine and given the amount of use I put that through without a screen protector I figured that the G2 would be fine. While it is somewhat long (about 15mm) it is not easy to see with the screen on so I am reluctantly living with it.

Anyone know how scratch resistant the Epic's screen will be?
If its weak, I'd like to manually try and replace it with Gorilla Glass.
Manually replacing the glass sounds kind of risky!
You should realize that gorilla glass and products like it are much more brittle than standard glasses. While it can with stand scratches, it doesn't favor well in drops and impacts to it. Why not just use an invisible shield or other protector? Much cheaper and easier.
Trying to replace a screen that's made for the phone with a screen that's NOT made for the phone isnt gonna be easy or pretty.
when it comes to a drop/impact that would shatter or splinter the screen, it either will or won't. Having a case and protector on the screen helps. But if its from more than 2 feet, most likely the screen will shatter regardless of the type of glass.
My Hero has survived far more of its fair share of 5 foot falls onto asphalt with only minimal scuffing to the plastic case, there are no screen cracks, and no screen scratches either. If the Epic 4G is anything similar, it should be fine with both. Although I would like to note that, at least for me I would worry more about problems with the keyboard after the phone has been dropped, as was the case with my Touch Pro. Just my 1.9 cents.

One of the benefits of super amoled is that the screen is attached to the plastic/glass cover. It eliminated the dust and glare problems but it would most likely be impossible to replace it.

One of the great things about the HTC "chin" phones is that it's impossible to directly impact the screen on a flat surface like a floor or sidewalk without completely breaking the phone open. That's how it is on my G1, at least. Say what you will about the aesthetics, but I find that to be fantastic practical design.
When I went to the T-Mobile store to see their version, they intentionally dropped it and banged the screen HARD like 5 times to demonstrate how tough it was. Not a scratch. I wouldn't worry about screen durability.

My Vibrant is supposed to have Gorilla Glass which is probably the most scratch-resistant glass you can get on a device. But you know what? I still use a screen protector. If you get a good one and apply it properly, you won't even be able to notice it's there. And they're cheap so why not?
I already have screen protectors and a case sitting at my house so I'm ready for when my G2 comes in the mail.

Are Zagg screen protectors anti-glare?
lets just say its not made of sapphire crystal or diamond.
I'm getting the zagg max coverage. I choose to err on the side of caution when it comes to the screen and I really like the brushed metal accents and want to protect them from scratches as well. I'm pretty sure keys etc will leave a lasting impression. I personally don't like the added bulk of snap-on cases.

The T-Mobile screen protectors seem to use the same material and adhesive as the off-brand ones I used on my G1. Those held up really well for me. I only replaced the protector once in about 1.5 years and the second one was still going strong when my G1 got relegated to yet-another-backup-phone in the junk drawer.
Its true eventually scratches will magically appear "they really do" So i decided to get a protector and since i never had protectors for my phone i would like one or two advices of which ones would be the best option.

Scratch Resistant does not mean unscratchable, I left mine in my pocket full of change and a chain of keys with a screw drive, no scratches on it.
I spent a good 2 hours running a knife blade over my hero while watching dexter to prove to my friend it had gorilla glass, never got a scratch.
Only scratch I ever had on my phone screens with gorilla glass were from grabbing my phone with a diamond ring on that was facing backwards on my hand.

but the site does say it has gorilla glass which is weird because when I had my first shift the only reason I got a screen protector in a rush was because after the first few days of having it I noticed a few minor scratches, it had to just be from being in my pocket.

I also have proven to friends that my screen takes a lot more than keys to scratch it, I actually scratched my screen with my keys in class one day to prove my point. I was kinda scared that it would actually scratch but I will put my money where my mouth is if I believe it to be true. Any way you look at it, a screen protector is a good idea if you like to keep your items in a "new, never used" condition.
so a knife made out of stainless steel won't scratch it, but a small piece of aluminum on the floor of a shop will? Not exactly very durable gorilla glass then
Aluminum is not much to take lightly but maybe you just got a bad batch? My shift has no screen scratches, nothing, didn't get a film for the screen til a week or so later, like I said left it in my pocket and nothing happened. Only reason it has the film on it is because I don't like how oil sits on glass in droplets (has dreads).
Sprint probably makes a fortune selling protectors. How many would they sell if they advertised the phones as being basically scratch proof.

How do you know every phone (I assume you mean "every G2") has Gorilla Glass? Just because Corning lists the G2 on their website as having GG does not guarantee that every G2 has it. HTC is free to switch materials whenever they want. In fact, they probably reserve the right to change whatever specs of the phone they want, without notice (if they even listed GG in the specs, which they do not). But you are probably right in that many high-end smartphones are using GG these days, so HTC is pretty likely to stick with it for all the G2's.
If you read the older Gorilla Glass thread I posted above, you will see there are other users that scratched the screen with normal use. GG is advertised as being "highly damage resistant", and its harder to scratch than "conventional" glass, but you can still scratch it.

I believe that GG was originally developed for helicopter windshields. But the thickness of those and the other uses (like you mentioned) are probably a lot thicker than the type used for smartphones. The GG surface treatment greatly increases the toughness of the glass, but its thickness will still be a factor. There were reports of iPhone 4 GG breaking the first week the phone was released, just from being dropped. While GG is pretty impressive, you can't take for granted its not going to break.
Yeah that's true. I've been pretty lucky so far with phone screens so far. And I probably shouldn't have said/typed that.

What type do people usually use. I normally never use one, but I bought a Zagg for the front. I also have heard of Spigen, but haven't really found a review that pits them against each other.
I tried a SGP Ultra Nano Clear and it was ok, but I like the ZAGG that I've got on my One X (I know...I'm one of the few that like them!) So, I went by Best Buy today and had them install the ZAGG Invisishield HD on my brand spanking new GSIII. Funny story, though...
The guy that was installing it confessed it was only about the 4th or 5th one he'd installed. But he made a good point...if they do it, they've got multiple chances to get it right, whereas if I did it and screwed it up, I'd have to start over (this is the first wet-install screen protector I've used...the one on my One X was on it when I bought it second-hand).
Anyway, he goes through the process and once he gets done, he tells me that through trial and error, they've come to realize that the ones for the GSIII are better if you install them upside-down. His reasoning was that this way, the front-facing camera is covered (whereas it's usually not). Whatever, I thought...he knows what he's doing.
So, I get in the car and about 5 minutes down the road I realize part of it is overlapping the home button (because, obviously, that part is supposed to be AT THE TOP!) So, I head to the other Best Buy in town (because I'm now closer to it) and I show it to them. The guy just sat there and stared in amazement. He said, when did he install it? I said about 30 minutes ago. His only words? "Dumbass". So, he got another one out and installed it correctly and it's working perfectly. I let it sit in the front seat of my car for about an hour so the heat would cure it and it worked great.
The only downside is that it covers nearly to the edge of the screen and it's just slightly off-center. My favorite case now wants to lift it on that side. Since these things have a lifetime warranty, I may just run back by Best Buy and have them install another one and get it more centered. But as far as the feel and clarity goes, I'm really liking the ZAGG Invisishield HD.
Yea my screens fine unlike the people who drop there phone 24,7. Hate the way if you drop your phone, screen side down it makes a huge crack.

I've ordered a screen protector and a case. Based on the tons of comments I've seen about the screen getting scratched, I am taking no chances with a as device expensive as this.
I went with the highest rated screen protector on Amazon to start with, as well as a $10 TPU case. I might get an Otterbox later if they go down in price or go on sale.

I was looking at Ghost Armour and XO skins. Has anyone used them? They are pricey but have lifetime warranty and look nice.
Any particle of sand is stronger than any Gorilla Glass by the sheer virtue of quartz (sand) having a higher hardness than borosilicate glass (gorilla glass).
Harder substance will always scratch softer ones.
