My back button on the front capacitive screen won't respond the first time, I have to keep on hitting it until it registers. Anyone else have this issue?
I did some research and found out that the Vibrant was having the same issue with their home button.
Those buttons are my biggest gripe with the phone. You have to REALLY FREAKIN press on them. On the Evo, you just need to touch them lightly. I really love the bottom buttons on the evo. With the epic, touching them doesn't work. You need to press. Sometimes more than once. I also end up accidentally long pressing just to get it to work sometimes.
Samsung needs to learn from HTC and fix their buttons.

I thought it was just me with the button thing. U actually have to press instead of just tapping it like on the evo

It is not just you. Some are genuinely faulty. I see this being hte first major defect of this device. The back key on some seems to be worse than the search, home and menu keys. I had to replace my first Epic because of it.
I'm dealing with this, and the battery charging issue.
Ya I bought six epics for my whole family today. 4 are fine and 2 have back button issues. To the point where on one I have to push down severly hard. I am taking it back tommorow and going to see if they can swap it out.
I hope mune is not like this when I get it
My issue is with the MENU button and I notice that the feedback is the strongest on the HOME button. Sounds like the Epic is going back tomorrow.
This can probably be fixed with a software patch. If its common among all galaxy s phones, im sure samsung will issue a patch for this.
Gosh, reading all these post and trolling irc as the day wenton, I'm gad to only suffer the biggest problem of the epic, not being able to put it down! And maybe the spacebar, lol.

yea the ones that work are awesome... but the back button is unusable at all on 2 of mine so gotta get them replaced. Hopefully they still have a few left.
Yeah I noticed that too, it is inconsistent sometimes with almost all of them.
Sometimes you lightly tap it and it goes and than other times you will do it 3-4 times before it goes.
anyway to set the bottom buttons (back, home etc..) to be lid longer time?
Possible Solution: I do not have mine yet, but this is what I noticed from watching the reviews. If the lights are OFF on the buttons you need to press them more than once. If the lights are ON they will be responsive.
The light timer is linked to the keyboard backlight timer. Increase the keyboard timer(in settings) and the buttons will stay on longer as well, 30 seconds should be a good setting.
Again, I do not have my phone yet. Can someone with the issue please confirm this is a proper solution?

worked like a charm, thank you
Back Button Issue
Got my Epic on 8/31 at about noon. I spent about 4 hours setting it up and did not even try making a call (except for one very short call). While working on the setup I noticed I had to hit the back button anywhere from 3 to 5 times and sometimes I really had to press hard.
Once I starting making calls with it I noticed that it had a lot of static and each call made it worse. Took it back to Sprint and got a new one. The new phone has NO issues with the back key!
Makes it seem like a hardware issue.

Unfortunately most people having this problem are having it when the lights are on. A lot of people have returned their epics already due to the buttons on the bottom....
I am having the same problem with the keys, they all need to be a lot more responsive. The back key is the worse.. Sometimes I have to press it 10 times for it to work.

I find that when i stop for a second and then press it good and hard, it works. I don't like that... but it never completely fails on me.
I hope they fan fix it so that you just need to slide your finger over it to make it work. That's how the Evo is. I think everyone would prefer that.
Has anyone noticed that sometimes haptic feedback seems to vibrate twice when pressing the menu button?
For some reason it really annoys me. Any possible fixes?
Yes, I notice it and it bothers me. Usually happens when the phone is lagging a bit. It makes me feel like the phone is about to crash or that something is serious wrong.
It's double because the first is for pressing it, while the second tells you that the long hold action has been activated, it's not lag
Sent from my SXY-T959
So it's not a bug, it's a feature? It only seems to be happening when pressing the menu button and feels like its random where in same situations it sometimes happens then not.

He's right about the hold feature. It actually activates the search function. The shortcut usually works outside of a third-party app.

Well, there is a double haptic feedback when you long press it, but I think he's talking quick-succession. Like, tap it, and you feel like your phone is a semi-automatic about to take off. Hah :/
If you long press it, yes, it brings up a search option, but for me, when I just press it once for a menu, it vibrates twice very quickly, so quickly that the normal person would probably not notice it.
I didn't think anyone else had this "problem."

That's exactly what I meant in my initial post. Short single press yields double vibrate.

Double/half/weak haptic
I have the exact same issue, with just the menu button.
However, mine feedback sometimes feels very weak, like a half vibrate, or glitched, or stuttered or even delayed.
Sometimes it vibrates once normally, and the second is glitched or stuttered.
I thought this was a software issue, and when I bought the phone September 25th, they told me they would have a software update by the end of that month. Now it's past mid-October and I'm worried that by the time the software update comes around, it will be past the one-month trial period.
What is the general consensus, is it a software issue, or a hardware issue, that I need to get replaced ASAP?
I really do love the phone, but in find that the back button is a lot less sensitive that I would have liked.
I am coming from a GNex which had all buttons on the screen, and that worked great.
I can get used to not having a centre home button where the HTC logo is, but
I just find this back button a little annoying.

I thought the same but it seems more about hitting the button in the right place. Once you have it sussed it's not a problem

Correct. The area of capacitive sensitivity is just a tiny bit larger than the back button icon itself. This means precise hitting is required. I think they should have made the touch sensitive area larger....
Ahh., I see what you mean. I will have to practice a bit. Yes, it is annoying, but it is just nitpicking a bit, I will have to manage it.
Thanks for the tips

exactly, its just the button seems to be quite small - im not sure if thats a physical thing or a software thing (dont know how those "digitizer" things work) but maybe it can be changed in custom rom? who knows
It is too small then, this is the most annoying thing about this phone...when combined with the three dots, I keep hitting the menu!
I hope this can be improved.

Well, because you are Nexus user. I am sure you can disable hardware buttons, and use only on-screen. If that is the problem to you.
if you put the vibration mode on it is easier to judge where the home button is ..
settings
sound
and select vibrate on touch
so every time you hit the home button you can physically feel it ... no vibration .. wrong place
sensetivity
Larger button area would make it easier to hit by mistake having just switched from my Desire s I too have found myself tapping the screen trying to get a response but it just takes a little getting used to and after just a few days I'm finding it works almost every time now unless I'm a bit pissed lol
Hi,
i have tome hassle with the hard press home thing.
Sometimes its working ok sometimes it does weird things.
for instance ... if i press the button hard it some times vibrates , when i let go it vibrates again and its unlocked... thats when i think its working correctly.
but sometimes it just vibrates two times although i didnt let go ...
sometimes on homescreen i swipe the homebutton slightly to clean it a bit... not hard pressing and its vibrating. sometimes one single time sometimes two times in a row .
anyone with the same issue ?
thanks
no one ?
Check what sensitivity you have the button set at. It could be too high or low.
I have mine set in the middle and never have an issue.
i tried severeal sensitivity settings ... sometimes it gets better and sometimes worse... but for me its not satisfying
i think i have to weit for an update or so ...
I had the exact same issue with my S8. Sometimes it just works, sometimes it doesn't detect it, sometimes it registers several hard presses even though I've barely touched it (sensitivity reduced as far as it goes).
This has been driving me crazy for the past week. The hard press function was unusable because of this.
At first I thought it's a software issue (something to do with calibration maybe?). I got an update which didn't fix it. I tried resetting it which didn't work either so I sent it back to Samsung yesterday. Waiting to see what they have to say about it.
The lack of complaints about this so far made me think it's just a weird issue with my unit.
I'm having exactly the same problem and it's driving me nuts for not knowing if it's a hardware or a software problem.
I've googled around and this is the only thread so far. Seems like there are very few people with this issue.
Let me know how the repair request went.
i sent it back also
new one is coming tomorrow ... lets see... will report
I have that issue too. Dont know what to do.

Oh wow, that's really fast. I still haven't heard anything from them. Did they give any information about what's wrong (hardware/software)?
no ... i didnt sent it back to samsung.
i bought it from amazon.de and ordered a replacement.
thats faster
it will arrive today then i can sent back my first one...
same here, having issues with the home press function .
I also send it back to the shop where I bought it
I´ve send mine back to the webshop also. My mate got his s8 2 days ago and his hard press was perfect and responded smoothly all the time. So i guess it must be a hardware problem.
Will share more info when i get feedback from the repair.
Same problem here, sometimes it works, sometimes (when the device is in standby) it works only after several tries and pressure in different spots.
Can someone who has got a new device or sent it to repair report if it is better now?
Hardware issue... my replacment Works fine now
Same problem
I have this issue also. Mostly it works, but sometimes it doesn't work and the phone hesitates to come back to life. If I press the power button after hard pressing the home button or just wait 5-10 seconds, the screen will come on. Oddly, when it doesn't work (and occasionally when it does), the small vibration thing happens. I have this turned off, but sometimes when hard pressing the home button, I get the vibration, but the screen won't come on. Other times, I get the vibration and the screen will come on. Mostly I don't get the vibration and the screen comes on. Annoying.

As i said ... it seems to be a Hardware issue. Get a replacement
Mine does this often, i personally could care less for the home button function so I set the sensitivity to max and yet at times if I barely touch the home button area it acts like I have hard pressed the button.

I have the same problem maybe even worse. To me it looks like it is accumulating presses, the more times I press the button the more times it vibrates. So at the end I sometimes get 4 or more vibrations for just one press. Sometimes after I lock the screen it vibrates by itself and turns on the screen.
Looks like I'll get mine replaced ASAP.
Got the same issue once in a while.. also have a faint red glow on the screen. Considering getting it replaced but dont want to wait for a replacement.
I bought One Plus 5 in October last year. A new problem has arisen recently. It randomly starts rebooting. The lock button is perfectly fine but it is continuously set to 'PRESSED' position by I don't know what. The button is perfectly fine. But something keeps triggering the on button. It's been bugging me and randomly happens and randomly stops.
Anyone knows what's going on?
This is probably the worst phone at this price that I've ever seen. Never taking a One Plus 5 again. Other than modding and camera, it provides nothing but hardware issues 99% of the time.

You mean something is pressing the power button randomly so it reboots? Sounds like a hardware issue, so I would claim warranty.
Personally I don't hear about it as a common problem

It's gonna take time I think. I placed my phone where the power button is facing the ground and the volume buttons are facing the ceiling. Then I jerked my phone and it worked! It's not locking on it's own. But after using it for a considerable amount of time, the problem starts again. I don't know what's wrong!!!
