I wish more people had chimed in on this thread, but my two cents would be that such a feature would be very difficult to implement.
The stock MMS app was and still is open source, included in the AOSP Android release. Hangouts, however, is a closed source proprietary app, meaning it will be much more difficult to modify than the MMS app was.
I too am dying for some form of quick reply for Hangouts, it's a major piece of functionality I miss even though I've warmed up to the rest of the app. I just think we're going to have to hope for something like Halo to come to more ROMs, because quick reply in the app is highly unlikely.

I doubt a mod would be able to. The app will need to be designed that way.
Check xposed module call " sms xposed " and add quick reply ( beta ) it's work great !

Hi, I don't want to bog down the CM7 threads with noob questions. Now that our great DEVs have gotten WiMax working and Epic officially supported I thought I would try CM7 since I was already on MTD. I got it working pretty well but there are some things I miss from TW ROMs that maybe some of you have already got figured out or found an equivalent. I thought this might be a good thread to share tips.
First off the stock email app sucks, can't select to always show pictures so get K9 from the market.
So your long texts don't show up as gibberish make sure to select split sms and turn off split counter. Nightly 16 and up fixes long texts over wifi. Or use GoSMS and set to split long texts in settings.
If you want to record video and need the flash on I found Tjunks video camera in the Market has that option.
300 themes for Theme Changer in the following thread, our phone is HDPI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167075
Tortel1210 ported over several TW apps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452004
Had trouble getting Shootme to work so found another screen capture called Screenshot from the market.
Tazfanatic suggested I add the wiki (thanks Taz) for the Epic/CM7 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Epic_4G_CyanogenMod
Changelog: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=epicmtd
Please feel free to share other tips and tricks here. I want this thread to remain noob friendly so if someone asks a question that has been answered 100 times in the CM7 thread please just answer it nicely. Let's leave that thread to Development and bug fixes. Thank you my friends.

Second is there a thread somewhere that has screenies of a bunch of different themes? Sorting through the market sucks...lol. Specifically looking for larger icons with a circular battery percentage mod.

As for themes I always hate searching the market, but it is where I end up all the time. Sometimes a Google search makes it faster but not always. There is an app on the market that allows you to sort cm7 themes by price, but I wasn't a fan.
People have mentioned a paid 4g widget that works, but the toggle has been working since a couple nightlies ago. I'm on nightly 10 with shadow kernel and getting great performance and battery.

Try Enhanced Email (although I admit I haven't used it with exchange - just to manage two gmail and one yahoo account). Has a widget with #of unread emails and a bunch of customization options (different colored icons appear on the status bar for each of the accounts). I liked this app much better than K9. It's paid but can be had for free on applanet (just not the newest version).

Speaking of noobish questions, here are two - how does one add a speedial and a one-touch search function to the stock CM7 dialer? Haven't figured out how to tie speedial #s to digits, so have been using Big Dialer App for this (but would prefer to stay stock as Big Dialer is ugly as hell). I also miss the TW ability to search through contacts by letter from the dialer screen - now have to hit contacts -> menu -> search which is pretty annoying. Any advice? Would prefer not flashing a theme.

Side note from previous link I posted. Looks like https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.list.tmobile.themes. Is a more convenient way of browsing these themes from your phone

Deca himself! (bowing down) thank you sir for all of your amazing work.
Yes, the T9 contacts search option works pretty well... needed to select search T9 in dialer preferences.
I found a thread with a way to implement speed dial without getting rid of stock CM7 dialer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369776
It's a market app. Unfortunately, it is either this speeddial app or the t9 contacts search option - T9 search has to be unchecked for it to work. There is no long-press function for this app, it is very no-frills. While it is not a make-or-break feature by any means, but it would be nice to have a long-press speed dial option baked in a future nightly (so it could coexist with T9 contacts search).

If you run multiple accounts in k9 like I do, go into account settings for each one. You can set it to show pics after clicking (default, yuck), only from contacts, or all, among many other settings you will want to personalize.

I don't like the stock SMS app because of the text alignment so i've been searching for a good DECENT STANDARD messaging app. I do not want anything fancy, I want something that fits the Nexus 4 theme considering I have a Nexus 4. I want something that's good & responsive.
There is no best, it's completely subjective. Try out a few of the most popular SMS apps on the play store and figure out which one suits you best, its probably faster than waiting for replies.

I know TW never really had quick reply like aosp messaging does, but does anyone know of a good 3rd party app or someway to get quick reply to messaging? I love my N3 but quick reply is the one thing I am missing a lot from my N2 which was using aosp messaging. I wouldn't mind Touchwiz's messaging if it only had quick reply.

As you said, thats a aosp function. You could try to brign over that mod into N3, however since we can't do a nandroid, i wouldnt delete SecSMS but rather rename it and then try bring in the the aosp one.. just a thought
Until we get recovery it is hard for some of these itesm to be accomplished. And we just got root the other day... Give it a little time sir.

Try out Textra?
super clean sms app with real statu bar notifications, instead of annoying "new message" lol
and quick reply.
I really miss quick reply as well, but I don't see myself rooting my N3. The bloatware I don't want is already disabled and outside of that I can't really think of that much functionality that nova launcher doesn't offer me outside of this. I like the stock messaging apps because I actually get pic messages and MMS unlike any AOSP messaging app I've ever used so I'm not willing to lose that in order to gain quick reply.
If you find a good solution, please post it up !
I would go with 8sms or textra.

Tried that over the weekend, MMS didn't work.
Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm gonna look into 8sms & textra and see what they're like. I'm not sure yet if I'm gonna be rooting my N3 either. I'll probably end up doing so eventually, especially if we get twrp recovery n the bootloader unlocked, but I'm not holding my breath and even if we don't I think I'll still be staying very happy with this phone! With the exception of some minor bugs that are to be expected with new hardware/software, and that I'm sure will be fixed, I think Sammy did a great job with all the upgrades this time around. It would be nice to delete the bloat ware I don't care for like almost all the Verizon apps, but other than that a lot of what I rooted for is either now in the phone or I can get with Nova or Apex launcher. All n all I'm very happy with this phone and its the first phone I may be OK with not rooting. We'll see lol.

If youre not a fan of the stock messaging app(like me) simply download Textra SMS from the playstore, which is far better in my opinion, and also Textra SMS emoji plugin and voila! you have all ios emojis! just go to the "+" symbol next to the input box and click the smiley at the bottom. See attached screenshot.
