WiFi message - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I am on wifi i get a constant connect message like it just reconnected. Is that normal? is it actually disconnect/reconnecting? or is it just reminding me its connected? does anyone know or have the same experience? Thanks

Good question, same thing happens to me

I do too. I believe it's actually disconnecting and reconnecting.
Make sure that wifi isn't set to turn off when the phone is sleeping (screen off)

I also experience this. I have "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" set to "Always". Now after 5 days or so, I'm getting "Your Internet is unstable" messages. Internet is fine for all other devices.

Same here and I also checked the box under advanced options to auto switch.

Thanks for your replies. So far I am thinking this is a bug or fault. It seems when I am trying to connect to Google Play many times while this thing keeps restarting the wifi radio, it also shows a "not connected, please retry" message as well.or it just kind of 'hangs" hehe yep kind of in an unready state upon delivery im guessing well i actually think its a touchwiz issue more so than an aosp problem...

It also happened to me but I went on to uncheck "Wi-Fi notifications" in the Advanced settings in Wi-Fi and it stopped notifying me every time it "reconnected" if that's actually what it's doing.

And you sir are a genius. Thank you so much

The point is two fold, stop the notification and find out why it constantly disconnecting

Ok, I have a rooted Verizon Note 3 with Beans ROM on it. In the ROM, it appears to have some version of the Wanam Xposed. In every possible selection either in the phone settings, Beans, or Wanam, I have de-selected or selected turning that stupid notification off. I found one thread on the forum with a flash/.zip file, but it is no longer there. Can someone help me turn this off?.....

WIFI disconnecting when dormant HULK SMASH!

Didn't see any posts on this, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to call me an idiot and post a link though.
Whenever I leave my phone dormant, like screen off for awhile, say a half hour or so and I come back to pick it up it's switched off wifi and gone back to mobile data. I have to disable and reenable wifi to pick up the signal again. I know about the setting in Menu>Settings>Wireless & Network Settings>Wi-Fi settings>Menu>Advanced>Wi-Fi sleep policy, but I have it set to never. It still disconnects itself. It's as simple as turning off wifi from the widget and reenabling it, but it's starting to drive me insane doing it all the time. You guys have a fix? A setting I'm missing somewhere?
Might be a bug.. try using the WiFi Keep Alive app in Market, its meant for scenarios like yours..
I use WIFI Lock from the market and it works great.... Give it a try.
or do this to keep it on without an app download
menu > settings > wireless&networks > wifi settings > Menu > advanced
then change the wifi sleep policy to never.
I had this problem on my G1 for a while until my wife picked one up that did the same thing. I tried numerous ROMs trying to fix it. It ended up being my router settings. I don't remember what it was as that was over a year ago but maybe look there.

I've already done this, said so in my post, but thanks for suggesting.
I'll check out those apps, thanks again.

Wifi keep alive doesn't seem to work for me, and that other one doesn't seem to do anything but set the sleep policy to never, which it already is.

I am having this problem, too. I have tried it on several routers, but it always disconnects when the phone is sleeping. I have the WiFi sleep set to "never," and I am running CM 6.1. It drives me crazy. In a similar thread for the N1, there was a Broadcom driver problem in the AOSP kernel. It might be something similar here, too.
Im on the Desire Z and I too have the same problem. It's quite annoying. The "Never" disconnect option is chosen and it still wont stay connected.
Well, after having no wifi issues with the stock rom I am now having this issue with CM6. On my G1, I was able to adjust router settings and fix this but I am unable to find a fix on the G2.
I have wiped and reflashed. It does it whether I am on a fresh install and no apps restored or fully restored after wipe. I have messed with my router. I have messed with my phone settings. I have tried market apps. I even went back to stock and had no issues but as soon as I install CM, wifi sleep policy turns to poo. I really dont want to go through this again like I did with the G1. It took me months to finally fix it on the G1. I would rather go back to stock than go through this again.
I am begging anyone who may know how to fix this to give us some insight. I love CM6 but the margin between it and stock is not enough for me to have to restart wifi because I looked away from the phone for a minute and when coming out of sleep my wifi is gone.

Wifi turns on by itself?

It seems that every time I plug my s4 in, it will turn on Wifi. Then when I turn Wifi off the phone tells me "unfortunately smcc service had stopped working". Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm having a similar issue where it turns itself back on when it's turned off. This is happening even when it is not plugged in though I'm not seeing any errors when turning it off.
It is the Smart Mode located in Settings under Wifi.

That may be it. I just turned it off. We'll see what happens. Thanks!!!!!!!

Ahhh! My brain fart has been sprayed with Lysol..! Thanks Crawrj!
If that doesn't work check for a setting called "Connection Optimizer." I haven't gotten my S4 yet but on other Sprint phones it is Settings > Mobile Data > Automatic Connections > Uncheck "Connection Optimizer"
It's supposed to intelligently determine when to turn wifi and 4g on and off. Connecting to wifi will save battery over mobile data so it is best to connect to it, that's probably why they have connection optimizer on phones.

THANK YOU! After reading the description this does appear to be the culprit. And the longer you stay in one place(work) the more aggressive it seems to get.

Ya it took me a min to figure it out. It's designed to read your location and connect to wifi in areas your always connected to wifi. But if you wish to shut it go to too:
Settings > Wi-Fi > Smart Mode > turn off.

Me too. Thanks so much for this. It was driving me mad. Up next: preventing it from disconnecting because it feels the wifi is too slow. UGH. Walking around my building there are good spots and bad spots. If I sit in a bad spot too long I am disconnected with no hope for auto reconnecting. Maddening.

Great info thanks.
Juice Defender vs. Smart Mode
I use the WiFi location-based trigger in Juice Defender instead of Smart Mode.
As I understand it, while Smart Mode tries to turn on WiFi for ALL of your common locations, JD can do this on a location by location basis. So, I don't like to be connected to WiFi at work, but I *do* at home. JD allows for this.
Sound right?
Thanks,
Eph
I have Smart Mode off - but Wifi still seems to come on at least once a day?
What else could be triggering this?

My Nexus 4 shows the same thing unless I actually turn off the wifi. I just leave my wifi on so when I come home it auto connects.
Weird minesays the same. I had my wifi off for at least 5hours

You have to go into WiFi settings and select one of the other features in advanced settings
TWEAKED 2.5
Because your WiFi radio keeps actively searching for an active signal unless you turn it off.

I believe the option in the advanced settings is "Scanning always available". If you turn that option off it should stop.

Simple, because the WiFi radio is on.
I have found WiFi battery usage to be very odd on the Note, at least Note 1. I used to have it turn off on screen off (settings default), but that caused battery drain. I then used Llama (Location Aware Mobile App?) to turn it off when the screen was off after a minute. Still drained.
I eventually left it on all the time I was at home or work, and it was much, much better. I guess going on and off all the time was the drag, or caused another issue.
I then used Llama to turn it off whenever I leave home or work, and turn it back on when I arrive. Happiness achieved.
I just drag down the notification bar and hit the toggle. One less active app to hog memory and battery...
Then again I also turn off mobile data when it is not needed. That spares me a full 4 days, and that's just on the s3. Imagine how long a note3 would last... (I'll know when my order finally arrives...)

Wifi function fail (turning off involuntarily)

Anyone else having issues with the wifi turning off on its own? Got my S5 yesterday on AT&T. There have been a few times that the wifi will turn off and it can't be turned back on unless I restart.
I've experienced this with wifi settings as is out-of-the-box and when I changed the option to only have it on during sleep while plugged in.

Try this, go into settings, press wifi, then press the button consisting of 3 dots in the top right corner and then press advanced. where the settings state "keep wifi on during sleep", make sure it is set to always.
also check the wifi timer is not on either.
Let me know how you guys get on

Yes, that's the problem. It is fixed by not using the feature... Great, isn't it?

I have the exact same issue and am thinking to call warranty and see what they can do. This happens on any router, very annoying. You can avoid phone restarts btw, just put the phone in airplane mode and back in normal, when you do that it will be able to turn wifi back on. I am wondering is this bug on every att galaxy s5?
this bug occurs when you have the keep WiFi on during sleep option off. this saves a lot of battery, and to me avoiding this option isn't a fix to the problem, because on every android device I have I make sure WiFi turns off during sleep and never had issues reconnecting back when I wake up the device but galaxy s5 has that issue

Anyone having wifi issues?

So my wifi is working fine when I'm using the phone. But everytime I turn my screen off my wifi disconnects itself. I don't have any settings changed for that to happen. I actually have my wifi to always stay on during sleep.
I have attached some pictures. When the screen turns off the WiFi turns off after a few minutes. It shows my wifi and underneath it, it shows "internet not available". I then have to manually hit connect and my wifi reestablishs the connection. It's really tedious and I don't know what to do. Don't have this problem on my s6 edge or any other device. I've read it may be an issue with android 6.0.1 as many people with nexus 5x's and 6p's have the same issue. I've tried many things but nothing seems to work.
Do you have any apps that could be doing this (such as power saving apps)?

Nope. I've got around 15apps that I transferred over from my s6 edge and they're just your usual Facebook, Twitter etc. I have no idea why it's happening

Try changing it to never and let the screen go off. Then restart. Change it back to Always and see if that fixes it.

I had a lot of problem with my S7 Edge and the only way I found to fix it was to remove the Mac Adress filtering on my router. Without it I have no problem, but with that security feature activated, the S7 was permanently losing the network and/or being terribly slow from timme to time when browsing.
Hope this helps

I believe that you mean you did not have to manually set your S7 Mac Address on your router? In that case, that feature is not activated otherwize you will not be able to connect at all... :fingers-crossed:
Same wifi issue here. I cannot download apps through Google play nor does Google photos backup.
If I select "Never" in "Keep my wifi on during sleep", wifi never disconnects when the screen turns off. Does it mean my S7 Edge never goes to sleep?
EDIT: Did a data factory reset and still the same behaviour.
