I've been messing around with gpe roms since safestrap was released and yesterday I started having a problem. when I rebooted my phone I lost service. I've been using the same roms. deleted the rom slot and reflashed everything and still having the problem. I don't understand what's going on because this wasn't happening a few days ago
edit: on reboot my lockscreen says: roaming indicator off. and in settings under mobile networks, access points is missing. there's no apn settings and no option to add any

Which GPE rom have you flashed? 4.2.2 or 4.3? did you flash your kernel after you flashed the ROM?
If you read the OP it says to do so, this typically fixes cell service and wifi issues.

I've flashed quite a few. both here in the att forum and virginrom from tmobile. they all worked fine up until a few days ago. yes they are 4.2.2 and yes I flashed the mf3 modules.
btw, this isn't happening when I flash a stock touchwiz rom. running shostock right now with no problems

From my understanding, SafeStrap only supports TouchWiz roms and that's why you would or would not be seeing these problems.

You're talking about two different things here now - if you've cleared everything correctly, including dalvik cache, flashed your rom and the kernel then it should be fine. If it's not, I would find another download of your GPE 4.2.2 rom and ensure it's not your ROM that's causing problems. Just because there aren't immediate problems, doesn't mean problems can't occur later on - as you've noticed.
Or perhaps try all of the appropriate steps on another ROM slot for troubleshooting purposes.

I've done all that. I've deleted and recreated the rom slot and flashed 4 different gpe roms to see if it was a certain rom causing the problem but no it was all of them.. that's why I'm so confused because these roms worked perfectly up until a few days ago. and like I said I just flashed shostock last night and I haven't had the problem. when you say flash my kernel you're talking about the mf3 zip that hashcode provided correct?

Yes, that's correct. If you've done that - then it makes no sense. Seems you have done it all in order, accordingly. Hopefully Shostock doesn't fail on you also.

I'm not familiar with the Virginrom, but I know that CSC files are written scripts, usually for automation. They work with with programs that support OLE. Seeing that it was carrier specific, I'd think that was used along the lines of APN settings within the ROM to some degree.

That's bizarre. I would also suggest manually uninstalling SafeStrap and re-installing it but your Shostock hasn't had any problems yet. I couldn't think of anything else that would be posing a problem.

So... I did the stupid thing. I attempted to go back to my old MF9 backup through TWRP after upgrading to MJA, and now my wifi won't even turn on. I've been trying to figure this out for a few hours now, trying various fixes. I've tried to use ODIN to flash back to complete stock, but that just destroys my phone until I flash a recovery through ODIN. Everything I've seen on the forums so far has made it seem as though there is no hope since Samsung added in Knox.
I'm sorry if this has been resolved elsewhere, but I've literally been searching the General. Q&A, Android Development, Original Android Development, and Developer forums for several hours today with no luck. Can someone please help me with this? I just want my phone to be fully functional again...
EDIT:
Here's the deal; my main problem was with Wifi not working. The Stock MF9 Kernel was not working, but the 4.2.2 TW Kernel found here finally did.

i just gave up on trying to do a restore. I actually used Titanium to get as much information from my old backup as possible then just rolled with it. I know that probably isn't what you wanted to hear but that what worked for me.. hope that helps
I have read that the WiFi issue may be a Kernel issue.. Did you try a different TouchWiz kernel and see if it worked out?

This is actually what I was trying to do, sadly. Titanium was backing up my info to the phone storage rather than the SD card, and I had to do a data wipe to get to MJA, so I lost them. I figured I could restore to my MF9 backup to redo them, and that's when the trouble started.
I finally got it working. I had to try several different kernels until one finally worked. Now about flashing a new ROM...

Scott, check my first post. I edited it with a link to the page with the kernel I used. Make sure that you choose the correct kernel for your Android version. The MF9 and MJA designators have nothing to do with which kernel you need, so make sure to check in your "aboout phone" section to find out what android version you're running. Using the 4.3 kernel on 4.2.2 will cause a bootloop, which is easily fixed by flashing the correct kernel.

GPS is very important for my line of work, and I'm trying not to panic.
I'm on MK2. I've been using stock and SHOstock ROM flawlessly since getting the phone just before Christmas. I've NEVER had any GPS issues. Ever.
I decided to flash the Safestrap version of Hyperdrive on ROM Slot 1, along with MK2 kernel module. Installed fine. I flipped back to STOCK rom(SHOstock), until I had time to mess with the new ROM. On the way home from work, I realized I had no GPS.
Using GPS Tools and GPS Fix apps, no satellites showing at all.
I've done everything I can think of, including using ODIN to flash back to stock MK2. Still no dice.
Can anyone give a guy a hand? I'm currently running stock and have re-rooted using saferoot(the same way I rooted previously).
Thanks in advance!

Dlp22, I have the same problem, did you solve it?
any suggestion!
I had the same problem after upgrading to MK2, almost on the verge of getting rid of GS4 and switching to another device. But for now, I have fixed it by installing Hyperdrive RS13 using Safestrap on Stock slot (did take a backup of the stock slot before wiping it out)...
Total Noob here. I have a GS4 (Canadian Rogers Model i337m). When flashing CM 10.2 I wiped dalvik cache, system, data, internal storage, and cache (to get all the samsung stuff off my device) and formatted data. After flashing, everything worked perfectly EXCEPT there is no audio from anywhere. No systems sounds, no notification sounds, no music (headphones don't even work), absolutely nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've been racking my brain all day trying to figure something out. Thanks.
Stock firmware?

Ive got the same issue, I was running OMNI rom until i got fed up of the phone powering off on its own. I decided to flash back to stock rom with odin then flash CM11 nightly. Thats about when I lost sound. Not only do I not have sound, the phone freezes up every time I use an app ( even dialer ) which requires sound. I've since tried flashing back to stock again in Odin, even trying different stock firmwares. I've still got the issue and the phone is basically useless as a phone without sound... Please help. Is this a modem issue? If so, how to I flash a new modem that will work, and doesn't flashing stock replace the modem anyway? Could this be a bootloader issue? I've been flashing roms and playing around with android for a while but I'd still consider myself a noob.

I got the same thing here, No music plays at all, My phone completely froze when someone tried to call me. also complete noob at this stuff.
I did find a couple ROM's that were i337m 4.3. But none did anything, but did the same thing. All had no audio at all. I also get screen flashing a lot (That could just be my water damage)
Wouldn't mind finding an answer for this either!

So if someone could point me in the right direction that will be cool. You have a locked bootloader which prevents the recovery and stock kernel from being replaced. That means that AOSP/AOKP ROMS will not work.
Only TouchWiz based ROMs work. We also have a working Google Play Edition ROM. All information about the phone is available in All Things AT&T thread.
Your contacts would be backed up by Google if you have set it to. Your data in the internal (pictures/video/music) etc is not lost in typical cases. It would be wiped out in case of Odin flash to stock. Your data in external storage is never touched.
Your apps are also backed up by google. If the ROM changes build.prop resulting in phone type being seen by google as being different, then apps would have to be manually installed or restored from backup. People have used Titanium Backup to backup and restore apps. You could backup all apps but I would recommend restoring apps selectively. Also, be careful restoring apps data. There could be incompatibilities resulting in force closes.

The bootloader on ATT S4 has always been locked. In the initial 2 releases (MDB and MDL), there was a bug that was exploited using Loki which allowed for custom recovery and kernel. That loophole has been fixed since MF3 release.
NC1 is the latest firmware. There are probably none modding the ATT firmware. All our ROMs are mostly based on the international variant of S4.

I haven't tried but it's possible. Not sure why encryption doesn't work on other roms, but the "regular" version of this one is basically stock with root, TWRP, busybox, etc. I've disabled securestorage and added r/w permissions for SD card too, but if that's a problem you can reverse those two changes by following the steps in OP2 in my dev thread. If you test it out please report back and let us know if it worked

A01A Base and debloated V1.1.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond - not really a big deal - just more a point of trying to figure it out for myself at this point. I will likely flash to 5.01 debloated now anyway - I have KT kernel running with the 1.1. Does the 5.01 have it's own kernel? (sorry if this is a naive question).
Thanks again.

Happy to help . v2.1 (i.e. Lollipop) has the stock kernel. If you have already updated to BOC4 through Odin at least once before then the kernel will work for you when you flash v2.1. If not, you'll need to flash a compatible custom kernel (e.g. AEL, KT, etc) to avoid boot loops after installing v2.1. See OP in my dev thread for full instructions.
Not sure about the LTE icon. Maybe try copying the CSC folder from another working rom to v1.1 and try flashing that? If you're on kitkat and running xposed there is also a module you can download called LTE Switcher or something like that. I've used it before and it worked for me.

Not sure about the LTE icon. Maybe try copying the CSC fder from another working rom to v1.1 and try flashing that? If you're on kitkat and running xposed there is also a module you can download called LTE Switcher or something like that. I've used it before and it worked for me.

Thanks - I will install a custom kernel post-2.1 flash to get the BOC4 update. Appreciate you taking the time. I'll keep working away at the LTE issue. Let you know if I figure it out.

Yes just confirming that you should be able to get the LTE icon by copying the CSC folder from stock or from the Regular version to your phone (after installing the Debloated version of course).:good:

Debloated 2.2 released!
Notes:
Used a new debloat process and also fixed FC when using the front-facing camera.
If you get any FCs after initial setup (such as Google Maps or Samsung Link Platform), just make sure to update the problematic app from the Play Store or Samsung's Galaxy Apps store and then you should be good to go!

Samsung Provider Codes not working
Hi there, Great Rom!
One thing that isn't working is the service provider code of *#2263# isn't working (MMI error).
Thanks again!

Are you using the Regular or Debloated version of the Rom?

I've tried both versions and neither version can access the RF Band Selector menu. It comes up with a MMI error. I've gone through and tried manually selecting a provider and that didn't work neither. IMEI is intact, and no issues with making receiving calls or texts. Flashed back to stock via Odin and no issues with getting to that menu.

Hmm that's strange...I could understand an issue with the Debloated version since things were removed, but the Regular version is basically just a rooted and deodexed version of stock. You have a N910W8, and not using any other mods or kernels, correct? Not sure why it would work on stock BOC4 but not the Regular Rom since they are essentially the same...

Yes I had the same thought, so I went from the debloat to the regular. I also ensured that I wiped 3x in TWRP in all required sections (all except internal storage and SD Card), before doing the flash to debloat or regular. Also made sure I waited 5 minutes post boot and then reboot before going through the setup wizard.
In any case, not a deal breaker for some, but may be fore those that are looking to enable LTE on N910W8 (Wind purchased phones).
I am running a N910W8, with no other mods or kernels. I was running straight stock w/root, before flashing the ROM's. Ensured that I was running BOC4 before flash. Not sure why, unless the base ROM you're using in the Deodex and Debloat doesn't have that menu's within it's native firmware, but I was under the impression that the firmware for canadian models were all identical with their own carrier codes attached to the firmware. (CSC Code chage *#272*IMEI#).

Thanks for the info. Strange indeed! Yes the Canadian roms should all basically be the same as you mentioned. This one is based directly off the stock Bell BOC4 firmware from sammobile so not clear why it would on stock but not this version. I've read something about Wind phones being a little different from the other Canadian variants in some way (I forget the specifics now), but that was a while back and I'm not sure if it's actually true or even related to this lol. Either way I will take a look over the weekend and post if I find anything of interest.
Regular/Debloated 2.3 released!
Notes:
Based on new BOE1 firmware released for the N910W8.
