When an stock Rom will have an FM radio for Galaxy S4?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
For I9505 version never because it doesn´t have the appropriate hardware for it (the FM chip). If you want radio install TuneIn Radio application or buy quad core version of S4 (I9500)
There won't be as it does NOT have the radio module.

I9500 also does not have FM radio.
And in my opinion appropriate hardware too.

Really?? Didn´t know that.. I thought that i9500 has an FM but no 4G (except in S.Korea).
In my country (Croatia) they sell i9500? 32Gig version without 4G and advertising in specs FM radio ...and i9505 16Gig version with 4G and no FM ..it must be their mistake.

Since the actual hardwares missing, this could be an option:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Ericsson-MW-600-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B0038M3H4S
You can pick them up on ebay for £30-40. Pretty good value really and gets good reviews also.

It could be possible that they sell a different variant of i9500 in Croatia. But i9500 does not have FM. Although S3 (i9300) had FM radio but they ditched it in S4.
In fact, I never missed it. I never listened to FM radio on my S3 either.

That really sucks. The FM radio module uses very little battery power and doesn't require data. Sadly because the service providers are not going to make money off the option it's been disabled or nixed all together. Sprint is the only service provider I know of here in the states that enables that function. My old back up Nokia has FM stereo on it so there is no reason it should not be enabled and functioning on all Samsung phones. It's actually a very good safety feature in times of emergency.
Samsung dumped the fm radio feature because they couldn't figure out how to monetize it. (That is direct from Samsung)
Unfortunately...you are one of like 12 people who care. So there is no mass protest to get Samsung to reinclude it on future models.
great phone, i don´t understand why i9505 doesn´t include fm chip
Read the post above yours. @Skipjacks spells it out quite succinctly.
I think it's quite stupid myself.
From various reading around the traps I'm under the belief that there actually is an fm chip on board (I think it's part of the broadcom chip that incorporates the bluetooth and stuff) but hasn't been connected and no android binaries developed. Well that is speculative at best.

Er not really though. Samsung say they don't implement it because they can't get money out of it (as already mentioned) Yet they still produce phones that have a FM radio feature. So which is it?
Think about it. The S4 Mini has a 4.3" screen running at 960x540 qHD resolution. The processor is "only" a dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon. An 8MP camera rounds out the huge differences between the Mini and the standard S4. These differences are sufficient to lower the cost of manufacture, thus Samsung could easily toss in the FM Radio and still make money.
However, the fact the S4 Mini has an FM radio and the S4 doesn't is irrelevant. Samsung's official position on not offering it for the S4 was stated, and there's nothing else that need be said about it.

i remember lookin through alot of web sites and reading that froyo was going to have FM Radio...now that google posted the features i dont see it... where is it!!?? did google forget lol?
It was one rumor, on one French site. From a guy who said an HTC rep told him what google was building. It wasn't very reliable, and anyone who phoned Google and HTC couldn't get the same info. Very sketchy and unreliable, but everyone ignored that because they wanted it so bad. The rumors spread all from that one post onto thousands of boss, so it only looked credible.

An FM Radio is physical internal hardware.
A new OS update can't "magically" add an FM radio to all Android phones, especially ones that don't have it inside.
As for the N1, Paul from Modaco.com is working on it and hopefully will get it fully operational soon!

Really?
Well, the FM radio feature in this case is very device specific. They are not going to announce that as a feature, because it is not something that affects Android as a whole.
There is still a chance that the N1 build of 2.2 will enable the functionality.
Fm radio is a waste. I've had it on 5 phones and barely used it. Now with Pandora, especially so.

That means N1 DOES have FM radio internal hardware! Even if I rarely use FM radio but knowing that my dear N1 can catch some FM wave is more satisfied!

Pandora doesn't work at all if you don't have cell service, whereas FM radio will often work just fine.
I don't see how having the option could hurt, especially since the N1 has the hardware already. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, right?
The details for the N1 specific froyo update have not been shown yet, so we don't know.
What you have seen so far is just the updates to the basecode of android, not the update Google will push out for the N1. Likewise, the update for other devices will have different featuresets.
For example, expect the tethering options to be removed from basically any phone being sold through a carrier that offers tethering for a fee.
AOSP Code => Device Specific Code
At the conference => Not seen yet and will include stuff like trackball options (for N1 only)

Dead on and I was going to state that. The info on Froyo is just that Froyo, it is not the N1 that will run Froyo. So we have to wait to see if there is specific items setup for the N1 in Froyo that will not be released to any other phone.
like wireless n... which has been stated to come out on the N1, but wasn't mentioned yesterday in the keynote.

Again yesterday they demoed "Froyo" Android 2.2 not the Nexus One. Froyo just happened to be on the N1 cause that is Googles primary phone. They only demoed stuff that would effect all phones in the industry regardless of hardware. So yea, NO specific details would be given about the Nexus One cause it wasn't about the Nexus One. So Wireless-N, FM, screen fixes, memory increases, louder speaker phone, track ball light, and so on would NOT be shown cause those are N1 ONLY not FROYO. Same reason why they demoed a 2D game instead of a 3D game, cause some phones handle 3D better then others, but 2D is just about the same across the board.
Does everyone get this now?!?!?! I hate being so direct, but....
We will know about N1 related fixes/extras in the coming weeks when they finalize the N1 Froyo ROM.
This is obvious though......

According to posts on Cynogen's forum, his 5.0.6 mod already had 802.11n enabled. It's not going to say it right there on the phone mind you, but you should be able to tell by your home wifi connect.
I did note that you're unlocked but not rooted yet, so you wouldn't see it yet.
[Q] Flash different modems?
The gps problem on my Samsung galaxy phone only got better when the develpers pulled out the various modems from the leaked Roms so they could be flashed.
Some modems worked much better than others depending on the ROM.
Would our winderfil developers, whose shoes I am not worthy to wipe, consider doing this?

Umm.. Wrong section? This is a tablet, not a phone... Unless you're talking about the A501 model, the wifi model doesn't HAVE a phone radio...
The gps was controlled by the modem.
I know the Acer has no 3g, but thought maybe the modum controlled gps/wifi.

There is no modem. There's a wifi chipset and a GPS receiver, that's it.
A tablet is more like a PC. You have a CPU in the form of nVidia's Tegra2 250 SoC, and addtional components like WiFi Adapter, Bluetooth Adapter, 3G Modem (in some cases) and so on! They are separate devices (although on the same PCB). On the other hand Smartphones are much more integrated and one chip (or two max) serve all functions! This is why there is Radio.rom that affects both mobile and GPS/WiFi.

Pros for 9505: many roms including aosp and better community support, GPU with OpenGL 3.0, LTE, same hardware as google edition
Cons for 9505: about 10% less CPU power
Pros for 9500: about 10% more CPU power
Cons for 9500: no AOSP at least for now, worse dev community support, older GPU, no LTE (LTE version of 9500 is only in Korea), flawed CPU
No one knows if You will be able to flash google rom directly, but most probably it will be at least easily portable to 9505. For me the choice is very easy.

I consult....In any case I'm still not close what I want to buy I do not know what more to either pay = \
I was wondering if the community could help me make a decision as to which model S4 would be best suited for me for primary use in the USA with very light travel abroad. I’ve done my research on XDA and would like to hear some opinions of USA users of the S4.
I will outline some of my usage profile to help guide suggestions (this is not in order of importance).
• Primarily use data over Wi-Fi.
• Would like to root the phone.
• Telephone Voice Recording (my job description often requires taking directions over the phone)
• Wi-Fi calling would be great but not a must.
• I like to jump between AT&T and T-Mobile so I need to have that flexibility. Mostly for the prepaid services.
• I would prefer a very responsive device.
• A lot of voice communication over the phone primarily using a Bluetooth headset.
• 4G would be nice but 3G is more than adequate for my data needs.
• Fastest camera load times as well as picture quality is important to me.
• The phone will be purchased without a contract.
• I know what KNOX is but not sure how that would apply to which model to get if I want to root the phone.
Here are the options (if I leave something out please mention). If I state something incorrect please correct me.
i9500 - this is an eight core model, my understanding is that only four cores running at time anyway so there really is no advantage there. This is the first version of the S4.
i9505 - probably the one with the most development options as well as custom ROMs.
i9006 - probably the best performing version. Can it be rooted? KNOX workaround?
SGH-M919 - this is the T-Mobile version. My understanding is that it’s similar to the 9505 in terms of hardware performance and has LTE capability on the T-Mobile network. This will work also on PC Metro along with Wi-Fi calling on both T-Mobile and PC Metro.
What is the warranty situation on each of those for the USA (the T-Mobile one would be bought unlocked brand-new).
So based on my description of usage what do you guys recommend?
I like to thank everyone who contributes to helping me.
It depends on which operator you use?
9500 is dual-quad core, but there seems rumor in next version of Android update will make it octa core online at same time
9506 , best for performance, rooting yes but KNOX ,I think it comes out with 4.3 so already included KNOX bootloader in factory.
If you don't wanna 4G and need some flashing, 9500 or 9505 , no flashing? 9506
But if you want 4G, take M919
9505 and 919 are hardware identical except radio frequency (although some of them coincided, but I think 9505 may not work on T-Mobile, but I don't know for sure )

I don’t really care that much about 4G. If I have it it’s nice, 3G will suit me more than enough. When you talk about flashing your talking about putting custom ROMs? That has nothing to do with rooting? And I am assuming you say that because the 9506 lacks in development because most people are going to wait for the S5, which is basically going to be the 9506 but waterproof.
Can you root the 9506?
Is there a big difference between the 9506 and 9505 in terms of performance? If you have to take a guess is it a 10% increase 30% increase?
Thank you for your response.

Yes, there is way to root it in forum.

Personally I'd say 9506 is about 40% over 9505 on performance, but it's all kinda over-performance for normal usage. It's like you have a car can run at 200 km/h and other one on 300 km/h where your highway is only allowed at 150 km/h ... that's what I think about it, I had 9506 once and turn back just because of lack of development
